Cozy, Festive, and Comfy

Our holidays may look a little different this year because so few of us are going out to parties or having people over. That doesn’t mean we don’t want to look festive, because I sure do. Today I’m styling two faux suede legging outfits that are the perfect way to feel cozy, festive, and comfy no matter where you are.

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle.

Faux suede leggings are one of my favorite types of winter leggings. They feel a little updated from other leggings and are super comfy so today I have two outfits featuring some great ones by SanctuaryAs always, you can click the red text for more details and to shop the item.

This first outfit could take me right from the couch to coffee with a friend, literally.

It starts with my starling slippers by Birdies that you could keep at home or wear out as shoes. They’re an elevated smoking slipper style in always-chic animal print with a cushioned insole. Here are the deets:

  • Seven-layer responsive cushioned footbed with elevating arch support
  • Shock-absorbing, high-density memory-foam cushioning
  • Breathable Poron™ comfort cushioning
  • Pressure-reducing heel cookie
  • Nonslip sole

The bottom line for me is they’re plenty wide enough for my bunion, super comfy so they get a two thumbs up for comfort.

My sweater feels like the comfiest robe you could imagine. It’s oversized in a plush teddy bear yarn that’s cuddly and soft. This tunic sweater is available in 6 colors sizes 0-14. I’m wearing a 4-6 and could have sized down to have it be less oversized.

It’s plenty long in the back so you could wear it over very tight leggings and still maintain your modesty. I like that the V-neck is not too deep so it doesn’t gap and expose more than you want when you bend over.

These leggings are an ultra-suede type fabric with tons of stretch in a rich walnut color. They’re a pull-on style with faux front pockets and functional back pockets that could hold your phone, etc. They’re available in sizes XXS-XXL-14, I’m wearing a medium. There seems to be a discrepancy on the website about the rise, but on me (with my long torso) they are very high.

My second look features the same leggings, this time in black.

I “dressed” this look up with a more substantial loafer,  collared shirt, and scarf. By now, you know I love Munro footwear! They’re an investment I’m willing to make because painful feet are unacceptable.

Munro offers one of the largest selections of sizes and widths in the industry and prides itself on providing stylish shoes to those with “forgotten feet.” These are available in 4 colors, sizes 5-13 in narrow, medium, and wide widths.

This tie-front shirt has a long back and an already tied front for a relaxed look. It’s available in 3 colors, sizes XXS-XXL-18. I’m wearing a small. I popped on my lightweight scarf for some interest that matches the shirt perfectly.

Nordstrom’s customer service can’t be beaten and it’s easy to see why they are my favorite department store! They offer free shipping and returns, always. They also have curbside pickup, free alterations, beauty and style workshops, plus BOPUS, ROTUS (reserve online, try on in-store)

Nordstrom’s pièce de ré·sis·tance for me is their Nordy Club (free to join). It allows you to earn points towards Nordstrom notes you can spend on future purchases. I save my notes up until I have enough to treat myself to something special I wouldn’t ordinarily buy for myself so it almost feels like a gift!

Are you a fan of comfy shoes too:)?

  1. Love those animal print shoes but if you are on a budget, check out Zullily online, they have animal and reptile print loafers and mules for a fraction of the price of this $140 pair. Their shoes retail from between $19.99 and $49.99.
    Happy shopping

  2. Well darn 🙁 I was hoping for the best but nope nordstrom.ca does not have Munro shoes…..maybe because they sponsored this post they will read the comments and offer the same items to Canadians on nordstrom.ca as they do on nordstrom.com…..I need that Narrow width.
And thank you for providing detailed fit info on the Birdies….the minute I read room for bunion I knew they were not for me and saved me an order and return…..with narrow feet I would walk right out of them.
So even though these items are a no go I am thankful for enough detail in your post that I can determine that these are not for me
(I hate the fits true to size nonsense because that tells me nothing)

    1. I’m sorry they don’t have the Munro for you. Hopefully, they will enlarge the selections for Canadians soon.

  3. Love the look! Great outfits for fall weather. Both outfits look good on you.

  4. PAT COWAN says:

I AM A BIG FAN OF COMFY SHOES. THE FIRST TIME I TRAVELED TO EUROPE, A WOMAN WORKING AT NORDSTROM SOLD ME A PAIR OF MONROE SHOES THAT WERE TOTALLY COMFY & STYLISH. BEEN BUYING THEM EVER SINCE & THAT WAS ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO!

  5. So interesting how the same leggings can look so different based on color and your styling! The teddy sweater is not my style b/c I don’t like the hi-lo hem difference – but I can see why you chose it for leggings. The blue is also a perfect color for you, and your scarf is perfect with it — makes the outfit really. I can never get scarves and collar shirts to work together, so I had to enlarge the image and look at what you did. I think a looser knot under the collar makes the difference. Is that right?
May I also say that I love that you took a sponsored situation and made the post your own w/o being a shill for Nordies? I will now consider them, which I haven’t done before.

  6. Faux suede isn’t quite as bad as faux leather, but it still feels like wearing plastic to me. I will wait patiently for this trend to go away.

  7. So in the sweater and leggings an xxl is a size 14. Guess that puts 70 percent of women in their place, doesn’t it? It’s too bad … I liked the sweater a lot, and think it would flatter a fuller figure. You looked lovely today, and I second the vote on Monro footwear.

    1. The size number is just that – a number. It’s really the measurements that are important, and they differ from brand to brand. I find certain brands tough because they combine sizes in a way that makes the grouping (e.g., S, M, L) impossible for me to wear. Your stat surprised me, so I researched it: the “average” size is now 14-16, so there’s nowhere near 70% who are larger than a size 14.

  8. That top is perfect. I checked out the colors but the milk color is my favorite. Love the pants too. I like high rise pants. I wish they were a little looser in the leg. What a great basic outfit to layer on third pieces. Looking forward to seeing these pieces styled again. Hint!

  9. I love both of these outfits!! They are exactly the type of clothing I love!! Easy, comfy, and stylish!! Thank you so much for sharing your style sense! It’s very helpful!

  10. You look great in both outfits! The leggings look amazing. I’ve had my bunions removed years ago so I’m really careful about my shoes because they can come back. Love the shoes you’re wearing. Thanks Jennifer.

  11. Jennifer, Thank you for showing these leggings. They look more relaxed than others. Both outfits look great on you. Do you find the Birdies fit true to size? I have been wanting to order them, but hate the thought of getting the wrong size.

  12. I can’t wait until things get back to normal as am looking forward to do more online shopping (as can process through customs myself to save some cost) but right now have to stick to brands that I know which at least doesn’t incur extra expense in event of return. Do love everything you showed today! As to loafers, they are my go-to seasonal foot wear right now and favourite brand for comfort is Naturalizer. Also wear a half-size that are often difficult to find. (They are also one of the few websites that offer a print-out to match your correct sizing to.)

  13. I have to seriously try Nordstrom’s shipping now that my store’s petite department is gone. 🙁
Your leggings look like slim pants. I wonder if they’d work for me. Never was a leggings fan because my legs are my worst body part and accenting them makes no sense.

  14. Love the teddy sweater so much that I have two of them. I like the oversize so there is no feeling of grabbing when moving. I was wondering how things went with the in person analysis and if we will see a post on that. Love to hear your thoughts on the comparison.

  15. Paulette Levy says:

You look fantastic in both outfits. The brown leggings are simply great with the animal print shoe!
I also like the black pair with the pretty green top and scarf. Cool!
    I need accessories I’ve decided!

    1. Accessories are the best investment you can make!

  16. Jennifer you look great in both of these outfits! The walnut leggings are really calling my name. Do you think they would look good if paired with booties? I’m a tad shorter than you at 5’2 so the leggings would be longer on me. I am with you in the comfy shoe department! I also have a bunion that needs accommodating and memory foam insoles are a must. My shoe size is 5.5 which can be hard to find so most of my shoes are ordered online. It helps to know which shoe brands are a usual good and comfortable fit. I will check out Munro. I want comfort without looking like I’m wearing “old lady shoes”. Thank you for being my style guru!

    1. These wouldn’t stay tucked into booties unless they’re tall boots and you tucked them into socks. You could hem or just fold them under to a length that meets the top of the bootie. (I’m assuming you mean short bootie?)
I never pay to hem then kind of pants/leggings because the stay folded under. Munro is a great brand. I love them.

  17. Love the outfit with the brown leggings and the shoes, I also have a bunion that I have to worry about all the time when I go to wear/look for shoes. This outfit is something that you can wear out or at home. Thank you for posting outfits like this for people that are working from home or retired. Every woman wants to look nice.

    1. My pleasure. This is a perfect at home look for me too. Causal and comfy.

  18. Nancy Haley says:

You always look fantastic in whatever you wear! I wish I were as slim as you are but I am a 14 -16 size girl. I wish you could feature some curvy mannequins for us larger gals?

    1. I can certainly feature them

  19. The cream sweater/brown leggings outfit is one of the best I’ve seen you in. Love the fit of that sweater on you, i think the sizing is perfect, I’m so glad you did not go with the smaller size which would have lost the modern fit that this has. And the brown suede leggings have rich expensive look to them that the black, IMO, lack.

    1. I prefer ultra suede in browns, camel, taupe, etc too. They just feel richer looking on me.
