From my deck chair

The sun peeks up over the mountains around 3:45 am this time of year on the island.
Even with blackout blinds…I still know it’s up, and so do my little dogs. Today I am sharing the view from my deck chair.

It was going to be a gorgeous day, so I took my camera out to play.

I refuse to read the manual so I’m learning through blunders exploration.

The regular Sunday morning sailboat races started right on time.
It’s a shame there was no wind but I still enjoyed watching them bob around.
The spinnakers are so pretty and colorful.

Light wind is supposed to prove who the better sailors are.

I spotted this big fella watching too.
Call me a simpleton, I am always excited to spot one of these!!
They fly past my deck at eye level but I can never get my camera out fast enough to catch them.

When I start to see the cruise ships slide past, I figure it’s cocktail time on board so…

fuzzy shot…wrong adjustment

cloudy Lemon Drop…organic lemon juice, organic simple syrup (home made)

There was a lot of day between sunrise and sunset. I didn’t jump to cocktails immediately.

I read.

I knit.

I napped, remember 3:45am?.

I walked my dogs and I made us a light lunch.

All in all it was a rough day.

The beauty of our sunrise’ is only rivaled by our sunsets.

Tomorrow I need to tidy up a bit. My Realtor is bringing someone over to have a look.

I wonder if they’ll be as intoxicated by the view as we are…and buy it?

I wonder if I’ll have a heart attack..if they do!

I would buy just for the view !xx

  2. That looks so beautiful! I may have to trouble you for your lemondrop recipe–one of my favorite drinks although I rarely have them as not every place can make a good one 🙂

  3. Oh, I do think your day sounds divine and the pictures are lovely. I do hope the showing went well.

In response to “Garden and Gun”. It is a sleek literary magazine with well written articles. There is usually one article on gun collecting or hunting… I’m not a gun person…I skip over that article.

  4. i’d have a cocktail every time i saw a boat too! It’s only right. I love your sunrise/sunset view.

  6. Wow! Excellent shot of the eagle! We live in the PNW and see them frequently.. always so exciting when we get a close look!

  7. I have many, MANY fond memories of the islands off the coast of Vancouver. What a beautiful spot your home is in!

  8. I am so not a morning person but what a fantastic day you had. With so much to fill the day, I might just become a morning person if I lived where you are, or maybe it’s just easier if I stayed up until sunrise.

Since I ALWAYS get excited when I spot a hawk or kite in our neighborhood, I’d always get excited if I see an eagle. I can’t get my camera out fast enough either and I definitely learn by blunders rather than instructions.

BTW, did they buy your place?

  9. Had to come by after your comment on Pam’s blog about turning 70. I’m 54 and after dealing with my aging parents, I was starting to feel…old. Thanks for inciting that spark I felt at 50, and helping me renew my vow to forget about the numbers and what people think and just live.

  10. Stunning photos. Love the Lemon Drop! (Is that a sea hawk?)

So incredibly gorgeous! And I like how you reason out the time for cocktails…made total sense to me. We get eagles along our river…I try to keep on the outlook when I am walking Rockefeller. They tend to be rather elusive.

I would love for daylight to start that early in the summer! Thank you for the smiles today, J. xo H

  16. I’m afraid I’d be clinging to that place with my last breath. How enjoyable to saunter through it with you from sunrise to sunset.

  17. Some very familiar landscapes… I would be buying it tomorrow if I could! Such a beautiful place!

Jennifer, your views are so stunningly beautiful! I can’t imagine that anyone wouldn’t fall in love with it all! Hopefully where you are going to will be just as lovely. The bald eagle (is that what he was?) looks so regal. The whole post was just breathtaking! xo ~S

Looks to me like you don’t need to read the manual as your photos are gorgeous. What a wonderful day that you described for us to enjoy.

  22. Beautiful! I’ve never seen a bald eagle in real life, so I’d be excited to!

  23. Coulda shoulda woulda says:

Omg! These shots are absolutely fabulous. How utterly gorgeous is your view??? Love the one with the sailboats the most for some reason…

  24. The beauty here is breathtaking…I just do not know what it would be like to awake to such gorgeous scenery. You are blessed.

    1. Best of luck! As you know, we are considering a visit to Carmel and Santa Barbara perhaps next spring for first time – you would be assured of warm weather sooner and more consistently I assume there!

  25. Love the photos and know the area! Are you abandoning the island or looking for a new spot? 3:45 am? I wish it would get nice here – would like to see the sun come out now and then!

  26. With that stunning expansive view I cannot imagine you would even need to clean inside!
The eagle, deck and ocean would sell me instantly…although I might need to get thicker black out blinds!
I do like to sleep until just after 6 am.
