Gauzy Linen on Linen

You’re going to see a lot of linen on me going forward because it’s really starting to heat up in my neck of the woods. We hit 95 degrees yesterday and since it’s not even Memorial Day, I’m expecting a hotter than usual summer. Today’s look is a gauzy linen outfit that could not feel cooler. Are my pants creased in the front? You betcha…because it had cooled off to a balmy 87 when we took these photos;)

I’m a huge fan of lightweight cardigans for spring and summer. They provide upper arm coverage for those who want it and keep us comfy when the air conditioner is blasting. Even an airy cardigan can feel too close for comfort on the hottest days so that’s when gauzy linen saves the day.

This cardigan is woven and gossamer sheer like gauze. I’ve never worn anything quite like it. The shawl collar and waterfall front keep it floaty so it swings and swishes when you move which is frankly, fun! I love clothes that move when I do. It’s pure white but looks lavender because it’s taking on the hue of the lavender tee and pale blue, striped linen pants under it. It’ll go with any and every color because it takes on the cast of what you see through it.

The long sleeves have a roll-tab band which keeps it sporty. It’s sized from 0-18, 16W. I’m wearing a small and it’s roomy enough to size down. They call it a Boatcruise long linen cardigan and I can see why. Picture wearing this on the deck of a ship as you cruise into a tropical harbor:) OK, I’m getting ahead of myself, but things are opening up a bit and limited travel is starting.

This tee hopped into my shopping cart next to the laundry detergent and paper towels on my latest trip to Target. It’s the most gorgeous shade of lavender and just $5! It’s available in sizes XS-XXL and 1X-4X. I’m wearing a small and could also wear a medium to have it a bit slouchy. Target has a great selection of tees and the prices are amazing so I stock up when I find pretty colors.

My linen pants are from last year, similar herehere, and here. Wide leg pants may not be for everybody, but I love the look and airy feel. Remember how elegant Katherine Hepburn looked in hers? Coco Chanel rocked them too so I know I’m in good company.

When it’s super hot, a necklace is the last thing that’s comfy so simple silver hoops and a large silver bangle complete the look.

  1. Really great linen cardigan. I love the way it floats around you. I would want mine a little shorter because I think that one would go down to my feet, lol. Great tee too!

  2. Flattering and, as you say, fun! Picture this outfit for patio entertaining or dinner alfresco.

  3. That’s a cool and fresh looking summer outfit. Love the floaty linen cardigan idea.

Linen is great for SoCal in spring/summer/early fall, almost year-round. I have two long linen cardigans, one from Garnet Hill that’s more what I’d call tissue sweater weight, w/slouchy hood, cascading front, done in large white and light grey stripes, the second from J. Jill similar to your fabric, a light/medium silvery gray. I love them both with shorts, jeans, skirts, dresses, even a beach/pool coverup.
I’m shy away from light blue/lavender, going instead w/golds and greens, particularly ochres and olives. I love your outfit, and would add a collar to the blouse, maybe like a polo style. I prefer some type of collar on either the blouse or cardigan/jacket. Lacking a collar altogether, I’d add a scarf.
Thank you for your posts – love them all!

  5. I would love to work some lavender into my wardrobe.. You look so cool and fabulous. I have some Seersucker stripe pants in blue and white that I’ve been pulling out every summer for years. I cut the tag off so I don’t remember where I got them. They will outlast me no doubt. Does anyone wear seersucker anymore?

    1. I haven’t seen much of it around lately but I love it! The classic summer fabric.

  6. It’s great the way that cardigan dresses up your lovely lavender outfit. One of my favorite things about Summer — linen. If you haven’t already checked them out, I love poetryfashion.com. Great style and quality linen.

    1. I will check them out, thanks for the recommendation.

Such a great outfit! So flattering, just love it! I picked up that Target t’ shirt color too and thought it was just beautiful.

Talking of linen… I really like Garnet Hill linen, (no, I don’t work for them) I find the quality is really good and substantial, and there is a promotion of 20% right now. Just sharing the good stuff 🙂

    1. I may buy two for when the first one wears out;) Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check them out.

  8. Such a pretty outfit!!!!! Love the colors and that it’s suitable for Dallas Summers!!!

    1. Yes! Cotton and linen couldn’t be better:)

  9. Love linen in steamy North Carolina; I have pieces from JJill that I bought several years ago, and they look good as new even though they get a lot of wear. Enjoyed this post so much. Thank you!

That linen cardigan is a dream!!! But I fear my cat, who is still quite playful, would be attracted to its flowy movement!!!

I just purchased a couple of those $5 t-shirts from Target. They are great — and you can’t beat that price.

Lovely outfit today — and those soft colors look so wonderful on you!!

  11. Jennifer – I love the color of your outfit and it looks so comfy!
Thank you for sharing all your great outfits and ideas!
    I always enjoy your posts!

  12. And in a snap, it’s hot and humid and you still want that upper arm coverage. What to do?! Linen jumps to mind immediately! I accept that this is where I’m at today. I can’t turn the clock back but your ootd offers a fabulous option to stay cool and look modern. I refuse to give up on trying to stay current but I do need a nudge occasionally. This blog gives me so much inspiration!

  13. Yes to the swishy feel of loose linen. This is also why skirts are my go to in hot weather. This is a perfect look for when a cruise is in the picture again. A mid way point between your heat and our frost would be great. I really like the colour of that tee shirt and the whole look is fantastic.

That is a really interesting cardigan. I don’t think I’ve seen linen like this before. Great find and write up. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
