Cool, cold or nasty weather is a natural for staying home and getting Hygge, or as I like to call it…cozy. They say our home is our castle but I prefer it to feel like a sanctuary. Part of what creates that feeling is having things that work efficiently, are a joy to use, and free up time for relaxing. Today, I have a gift guide for the home which includes things we’ve added to our home and love.
I’ll never forget the year I asked for a mop for my birthday…and got it. I won’t bother to wonder what I was thinking but I can assure you I’m much choosier about my gift requests now. However…
I spotted this cordless vacuum in a friend’s home and knew it was exactly what I needed…and wanted. This vacuum doesn’t hold a charge long enough to vacuum the whole house at one time but I ask you, who wants to do that anyway? Not me. I want to whip out a light, easy vacuum to clean up the kitchen and family room floors, then hang it up and get on with my day. I mentioned it to my husband and he jumped on it. I only hope he uses it more than me.
We ordered this Ring security system for our home and love it! It’s a wireless security system that alerts you when someone comes to your door. This simply replaces your existing doorbell and gives you the ability to see and speak to anyone outside your front door, even if you’re not home! Everything happens on your cell phone and it’s easy to use.
We also installed a motion detector with lights and cameras on the sides and back of the house. These light up when a person walks up to the house. We can see the side and back of the house any time we want simply by opening the free app on our phones. It even has a siren we can set off if we don’t like what we see. We’ve had alarms on our homes over the years, but nothing this sophisticated and this whole thing is affordable and wireless!
While we’re on the subject of front doors, how’s your welcome mat looking? I bought a new one for this house that I love. It’s nice and large and gets the job done with a motif I am particularly fond of. A Queen Bee:) I also love monogrammed welcome mats and Frontgate makes beautiful ones.
I’ve been a fan of London Fogs since my daughter introduced me to them on our trip to Tofino. A London Fog is made with Earl Grey tea, vanilla syrup, and steamed milk. I always order mine half sweet because I’m not a fan of that much sugar. I started making mine at home using unsweetened organic vanilla soy milk which tasted right but didn’t look right so we found this little frother which is amazing. Our afternoon “fogs” taste and look professional:)
I bought this pot and pan set many years ago and still love it! It heats up quickly and cooks evenly. I kept mine polished and shiny for many years when I displayed them on a pot rack. I’ve long since let them tarnish but it has no effect on how well they perform. When I have a place to hang them again, I’ll get them polished to look like new. You can pay a fortune for copper pots, but these are affordable and fabulous.
Last Christmas we bought ourselves an air fryer and I LOVE it! It really does make crisp food you’d think has tons more calories. Last week I “fried” asparagus spears that were awesome! You can pay a lot of money for an air fryer, but I can tell you, you don’t have to. I’ll start sharing some recipes here because I use it all the time.
