Hiding My Muffin Top and Other Joys of Style After 50

Hiding My Muffin Top and Other Joys of Style After 50

Is there anything more frustrating to hide than your muffin top? With my silhouette, I’m always looking for ways to slim my middle. I have narrow hips and thighs and carry my weight around my stomach.

Here’s how I hid it today when we went for lunch and window shopping in Pleasanton. Isn’t that a fun name? Almost as dreamy as Happyville.

Chico's trouser jeans bypass that dreaded muffin top area

These Trouser Jeans from Chico’s rise above my typical muffin top trouble area. I wasn’t sure I would like a waistband that is at my true waistline, but I do! I have a high rise, so most jeans intended for my waist, end below it. I may never tuck anything into them, but under tops, they help smooth my middle.

Covered Perfectly Wrap over top

This Wrap-Over top from Covered Perfectly has the double benefit of a ruched waistband with a blouson effect! Double duty coverage for my muffin top. It comes in several colors, but Teal is always my favorite if it’s available.

Ruching camouflages many sins and done right, doesn’t add pounds to your silhouette.

This top also has 3/4 sleeves that help me look taller.

The little shops are charming and filled with things you don’t need but find fun.

We are off to camp on Lake Donner tomorrow. I think I’ve packed everything, including the kitchen sink! We’re even bringing a full-sized blow-up mattress, which is probably not appropriate 🙂

I’ll see you back here Sunday for Style Sweet Spot!

Happy weekend.

My go-to jeans are NYDJ or Chicos but I’ve never tried this cut. Muffin top? Ugh….where does it come from and how am I suddenly my grandmother? Fun tips. I’m going to check out the top now.

Re: shoes from your previous post. I really like the ECCO Sport Yucatan Sandals.
They have a good supportive sole and my feet respond well to them. They are available at Zappos. Nordstrom used to carry them but could not find them on their website.

Thanks Mary. I love Zappos. I’ll have a look. I used to wear Eccos and remember they were very comfortable.

We lived in Pleasanton for four years and loved it! The main street is so cute.

The dreaded muffin top is a challenge, and I’m finding that even when I do lose the weight (slowly) that my muffin top is shrinking but not disappearing. 🙁 You ideas for camouflage are great. I also just bought a higher waist pair of jeans…NYDJ.

Hope camping is wonderful…and hope to see pics!

      Congrats on losing weight Laurel!

Love the color of that top & the ruching is the nicest I’ve seen. One would never know there was a muffin top hidden in there, you look amazing.
