Holiday Style: Casual Luxe

The holidays are here! What happened to November? Last I noticed it was Halloween! Now that my husband has retired, most of our holiday parties are casual and this Thanksgiving is no exception. I’m a guest this year, bringing my share to contribute, and that means no apron so I’m wearing velvet and sequins in the most casual way. I’ve always liked classic shapes in luxe fabrics and love the bonus of being comfortable. Elegance isn’t elegant if it’s uncomfortable and glam is a state of mind

These Crushed Velvet leggings are very stretchy and ultra-comfy. They’re a dense black, unlike many crushed velvets I’ve seen.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled life wearing Lysee velvet leggings

I topped the leggings with this button down tunic that has a subtle sheen from clear sequins.

I wrapped a very long, faux pearl necklace around my wrist several times to accent the soft glow of the top.

I love that these leggings and top can both be dressed down or up depending on their supporting pieces.

The more I wear luxe fabrics, the more I enjoy the feeling of glam they provide. Investment garments, basics, and wardrobe staples are critical to being able to dress easily but the unique pieces are what make it fun!Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled life wearing Lysse velvet leggings

What a lovely location for your photos and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.Your outfit is definitely spot on for comfort and style.I love your leggings and have similar ones I bought from Zara, and they were worn a lot this past winter.Your shirt fabric makes me want to touch it and keep touching it.I’m an occasional sewer and appreciate fine fabric.

    1. Thank you Julie! I’m a very tactile person too, so I totally understand! Soft fabrics are so delicious to wear.

  2. Great combination casual and glam…My fav all time leggings are a pair I bought at NAS this year: Lysee, plaid and they fit to perfection…Did I mention they are sooo comfortable?…Leggings do get a bad rep and you need to keep a rear mirror available but for those who put the age expiration stamp on leggings, I say not going to happen here…I absolutely love leggings and wear them all. the. time…
Have a wonderful, thankful day…You..Lucy…and Mr. WSL…enjoy and count the blessing of a wonderful little fur baby…That is what its all about, right?…THANKFUL! Deede

    1. I’m with you on leggings! They’re not age restricted. Thank you my friend! Miss Lucy is getting and extra helping of Turkey on Thanksgiving. Wishing you a fabulous Thanksgiving Day Deede!

Jennifer, I do think these are some of your very best photos! You look so happy and the fall colors are a beautiful background. Please consider using one as your new profile picture!

    1. You’re so kind, Thanks Evelyn. I’ve known I needed a new profile photo and thought I’d have to get a studio shot taken. But you’re right! I can use a casual one too! Smart thinking

I love this outfit, Jennifer!! Not only is it more upscale because of the fabrics, yet it’s also somewhat casual!!!
    And those accessories are perfect!!

  6. I love the white top! Here in the South it could be 80 or 40 degrees on Thanksgiving, so that tunic would be perfect. Your earrings are spectacular! Sometime maybe you could do a post on the proper use of leggings. Ive seen some sights that are permanently burned into my retinas…Not covering the tush at all, see through fabric, and no undies just for starters!! I just shake my head and think “check the rear view in your mirrors, people!”

    1. Leggings are some of the hardest working, abused garments in many women’s wardrobes! I’ve seen those sights and more Roxanne. You’re right, it’s a great idea for a post…perhaps I’ll leave the visuals out????

  7. Love this whole look! How perfect for the holidays with the sparkle and the velvet. Such a great look! I need those leggings!

    1. You’ll love them Pam! I’ve already worn them several times this season.
