Style Sweet Spot: Lunch Out With Girlfriends

Today I’m starting a series of Sunday posts with my friend Pam, of Over 50 Feeling 40. We’re calling it Hit Your Style Sweet Spot.

Your Style Sweet Spot is that place where your appearance and confidence meet. You know you look great! Your appearance is sending the message you want to world to see. You feel comfortable, confident and happy to take on your day.

Style Sweet Spot: Lunch Out With Girlfriends

Each Sunday Pam and I will each show how we would dress for occasions in our lives.

This week we’re both going to an imaginary luncheon with our girlfriends. It’s at a new, cha-cha hotspot in town.

I usually like to think ahead if I have an event like that to go to. However, this morning when I put this post together, most of my clothes were in the laundry and I had scramble to find what I could wear.

Just keeping it honest here ladies. Things like that happen.

So here’s what I came up with.

Style Sweet Spot: Lunch Out With Girlfiends

I started with a $9 white Target tank top. Yes, the ever popular and affordable Tar Jay.

I paired it with my simple stretch Eileen Fisher Knit pencil skirt. This skirt is one of my favorites. Comfortable, travels well and easy care. I love it!

Then I added accessories.

Style Sweet Spot: Lunch Out With Girlfriends

I added a favorite Gucci handbag. I bought this over 20 years ago, when Tom Ford was the designer at Gucci. I love using little handbags I can either set on my lap or table, when I’m out at a restaurant.

Style Sweet Spot: Lunch Out With Girlfriends

A simple black Gucci wrap that I’ve also owned for many years. It was a find at their outlet store.

My shoes are the only thing that are new. I found them last week in Nordstrom. They are by Louise et Cie. They come in many other colors but I chose this Bordeaux, as a nod to the color trend this season.

I’m not a big fan of trends. I think they can make fashion victims out of women pretty easily.

These flats are perfect for my tortured feet and best for my bad hip. I love the suede with faux snake texture on the back and the interesting way they wrap up the back of my ankle. The pointed toe femininizes them and makes them feel modern.

Style Sweet Spot: Lunch Out With Girlfriends

So a lunch outfit was thrown together quickly, using neutrals and allowing accessories to play center stage.

Now pop over to Pams and see how she is dressing for lunch.

Our goal is to help all women hit their Style Sweet Spot and enjoy the confidence that comes with it.

      Thanks, Cindy!

You look lovely Jennifer, here and in the dinner date post. I tend to think about what will I not ruin when I dress. That means I never wear my really nice things. I’m a clumsy person so a buffet dinner or party would leave grease marks on jersey. I like patterns for that reason. Also I hate feeling too cold so will dress for the temperature.

    Great outfit. Love the bag!

Stopping by from Lisa’s blog, Jennifer…Gorgeous, chic, and I’m thinking that must be one fashionable eatery! I especially love the Eileen Fisher skirt, and your necklace reminds me of my VSA (Virgins, Saints, and Angels).

Great idea with you and Pam! Will be fun to read. I love the classic black look with the gorgeous bag, ( of course I love great bags) and those shoes are amazing. The detail on the back and color rich I went to check out my size and boom! almost gone. Love it!

Talk soon, my friend. What a pity we live 3,000 miles apart.

    Cheers, M-T

    Classic and “Classy”!
I love that you paired a Target Tank with Eileen. The shoes are amazing!
Since I am in “weight loss” mode, I searched and found an affordable version of your fave Eileen ankle pants . . . (the ones you featured on your visit to the ocean post) . . . at . . . ( you are not going to believe this) . . . Q V C.
Your new series is going to be fun to follow!
    Have a great week, Jennifer!

Excellent outfit. I especially love the shoes. It can be so difficult to find such cute shoes that are flats, but not too flat.

  18. November 1, 2015 / 2:30 pm

How fun that you’re doing this with Pam, one of my favourite fashion bloggers! I love the outfit you chose and I’m especially fond of your new shoes!

  22. November 1, 2015 / 10:16 am

What a great idea for ongoing posts! I love the outfit! Since I’ve retired, I’ve gotten rid of many of my work clothes, including my pencil skirts… now I’m reconsidering that decision. We have such similar coloring and hair so I especially enjoy seeing how you put everything together.

    • Jennifer
      November 2, 2015 / 9:08 am

Thanks Janis! This is the most comfortable type of pencil skirt because it stretches! I wear it alot so you’ll be seeing it a lot :))

Thanks Linda! I would love to.

  33. November 1, 2015 / 5:12 am

Fun idea for a series, and I like that you started with an occasion that doesn’t warrant wardrobe anxiety–at least, not with the right girlfriends! You look as if you’re ready for a few hours of great conversation, laughter, secrets shared…

  34. November 1, 2015 / 4:42 am

I really like this outfit! I love that you kept it simple and classic but added interesting accessories. I use my jewelry to make my outfits interesting, and I need to add some longer necklaces. Yours is beautiful. I also love the bag; it’s gorgeous and very different than most bags. I almost always wear flats, and I really like yours (will have to look into them!). And I love that you chose this season’s “in color” – shoes & accessories are a great way to add a trend into your wardrobe!

This is so much fun, Jennifer. Thanks for joining me and, I love those shoes!!!
