How to Hide Your Muffin Top Over 50

Muffin top, midsection bulge, menopausal belly fat…is there any pleasant way to describe the spreadingĀ middle many women get at our age? Our hormones play a role in the redistribution of body fat at this age so how can we disguise this trouble spot?

If you struggle with a spreading middle, let me start with the obvious, tight clothes are not your friend. That means pants that bind or dig in will only accentuate your bulge. Look for pants and jeans that pull on rather than zip, snap or button. Those closures add bulk we don’t need around our waistline.

Form-fitting dresses and tops are not forgiving and best left on the rack. Look for tops that float and skim rather than cling.

When I think of covering my midsection I think of myĀ Covered PerfectlyĀ tops. They were designed for women over 50 and styled toĀ cover what we want. I have many of their tops and reach for them often.

Fit and Flare tunic by Covered Perfectly

One of my favorites is thisĀ Fit and Flare.Ā The tunic length is perfect over skinny pants and leggings.

The Alison Keyhole Fit and FlareĀ has the same fabulous shape with little cutouts that show just a touch of skin but isn’t revealing.

MyĀ Wrap Over with theĀ ruched band has been worn and worn and worn. I love the length for my 5’4″ height and the detailing camouflages my tummy perfectly.

bell sleeve v-neck top from covered perfectly

This Bell Sleeved V-Neck with aĀ banded bottom was my favorite from the Covered Perfectly photo shoot I was part of last month. All the models loved it! I’ve ordered it in this same royal blue you see here and can’t wait to get it. The band can be moved up or down on your hips to adjust for where you need the most coverage.

WearingĀ a column of color is another powerful way to draw attentionĀ away from your midsection. For extra coverage, wear a column in a flattering shape!

Bold accessoriesĀ will also draw the eye towards what you want the focus to be on and are a great way to add punch to your look.

Oversized and shapeless garments are not the best way to hide our midsection and often make us look larger than we are.

  1. You do not have a muffin top or midsection bulge????
    I do????
My problem is my legs are skinny so if I try to buy a larger waist to avoid the bulge, the legs are huge.
    Even skinny jeans.
I like the wrap top! The fit and flare not so much. They tend to make me look pregnant. ????

  2. They look so comfy and easy to wear. Are they available in store in Canada?

    1. Yes, they do ship to Canada. $14.99 flat rate. They are super comfy šŸ™‚

  3. I’m in my early 40’s and have had some unwelcome weight gain of late. I used to pack away as much food as I wanted and never gain weight. Now I’m eating like a rabbit and cannot lose those pounds. I will be trying some of these ideas, but I hope my weight gain is not due to the menopause, I’m only 42

    1. It could be peri menopause. I seem to eat very little and can’t nudge my weight down an ounce. It’s very frustrating. Hang in there. You might also get your Thyroid levels checked to insure they’re normal. Mine are in almost constant flux which makes my weight fluctuate. Hang in there.

Can you please tell me what size you wear in the Covered Perfectly. I’m 5’4″ weigh 135. Often times I’m between a M and S. How are these items cut, full or right on?
    Thanks!

    1. I wear a medium. I’m 5’4″ and weigh 142. I think they’re cut right on.

  5. It is important to find garments which float away from the body and do not cling to it. BTW…you are such a pretty model!

    1. Cling is the enemy for sure. Thanks Pam šŸ™‚
