How to Look Taller

Happy Monday ladies! My drizzly weekend was spent in boots, a fedora, and a coat. Our temperature swings are nothing compared to what some of you are dealing with but still no fun. I am so ready for spring, how about you?

At 5’4″ and shrinking, I’m always looking for ways to look taller. It’s all about illusion and some tools work better than others. Another way is to wear a column of color, any color, and the failproof way is to wear a nude shoe. Today I did all 3.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Stella by Adrian Allen

I chose a column of white topped with a short denim jacket. White earrings carry the eye up and nude shoes carry it down. A darker shoe would stop the eye and make my legs, and me, look shorter.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Stella Sandal by Adrian Allen

These shoes have a 1/2″ platform which makes the heel equivalent to 2″. This shoe will also be beautiful with a dress.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Stella by Adrian Allen

The back zipper is topped by an on-trend tassel that’s swingy and fun. It’s cushioned insole makes these sandals comfortable enough to wear all day and into the evening. These can take you almost everywhere in comfort, even dressed up for a summer wedding.

Do you wear nude shoes?

Have a great day ladies and make it a stylish one.

  1. Jennifer, this outfit formula works and you look great in it! I’m relatively new to your blog but already appreciate your good advice and open spirit – showing not only what works but what doesn’t, which seems to be rare in such blogs. ???? You got me laughing at ” 5’4″ and shrinking” which is exactly where I am too. I suspect we’re far from alone in this!

  2. I love this outfit! It looks youthful and fun. You look playful in these pics. Was your hubby flirting with you? ????

  3. Though looking taller isn’t an issue for me (I’m 5’8″) I love this look! Our temperatures are finally beginning to creep up above the freezing point, so perhaps the day will finally come when I can pull out my warmer weather clothes and footwear.

  4. The outfit is great shoes are beautiful unfortunately not all of us can afford 300.00 for a pair of shoes

    1. I don’t have a big clothing budget either, Linda, but I love to take inspiration from blogs like this one and then create similar looks at my own price point. I do that in three different ways… by finding similar looking items from less expensive brands, by shopping sales racks, and by visiting my favourite thrift stores.

  5. Thanks, great post, I just bought nude color shoes at 5’2″ I can use all the help with height I can get! I love your purse too.

  6. Like others, I love this look! It’s just a perfect blend of casual and classy. Those earrings are to die for. Can you share whose jeans those are? They’re really flattering.

  7. This is your best look ever!!! Wow! You look so slim and youthful. You should wear light colored shoes with everything – so flattering. My MIL was only 4’10” and when she wore black shoes that’s all one saw…but in light shoes her outfit was more noticeable.

  8. Loved everything about today’s post, Jennifer. Your hair always looks cute but lately it’s been looking EXTRA cute! Thanks for all you share with us!

  9. I love white – have many crops, shorts and pants. I find it hard to find tee shirts that aren’t too clingy or see-through. I remember a few years ago when I was wearing a white jacket with white pants. It was chilly so I had the jacket closed. As I was heading out one day, one of my neighbor’s asked me if I was a nurse. Now I make sure I always have some color showi ng!

  10. Double wow—for how your hair looks and the clothes look! You totally look like a California girl in spring time with the white, tan, and denim palette.

  11. This might just be my favorite outfit on you. It looks like you thought of every detail. Love the earrings.

You have talked about having problems with hair but the cut and color looks perfect. I’m in the process of letting my gray grow in adding highlights and low lights which was inspired by you. Thanks!

    1. I went through an awkward hair phase this winter but seem to be past it now. I cut it a bit shorter and that seemed to help. Good luck with your color. It’s been a while since I added any and I have been enjoying the grow out. Have a great day

  12. This is the best outfit !!! colors look fabulous on you, you look ten years younger. I’m sorry but the black and wild prints just don’t do anything for you, only my opinion.

  13. Jennifer you look absolutely stunning. Love all your suggestions to look taller and the slimming appeal of color and shoes. Your haircut is so stylish too! Life is Good!

  14. Sometimes simple is the way to go. This outfit is simple elegance in my book. I have everything in my closet to achieve your look. Thanks for the inspiration. You look wonderful in this outfit. patval

  15. Best look ever and you wear it well. Your hair looks great, and you show no sign of the moving stress you’ve been through. I enjoy your blog!

  16. You look absolutely fabulous in that outfit. I love your hairstyle!
We had snow flurries over the weekend and the forecast is for more this week!!! This isn’t normal April weather, by now I am usually wearing spring clothes, but still have my winter coats, boots and gloves out.

  17. The Vivienne Files did a great series on column of color vs. different top/bottom colors. I was 100% converted.
A Breton shirt with blue or black stripes on a white background, worn with white pants, also works. Or white stripes on a black background, with black pants. You don’t need solids, in other words, as long as the background color is dominant enough and matches the pants or skirt.
I love those shoes. Often the soles on heeled shoes are so thin, my toes ache from the pounding. But that cushioned platform looks comfortable. And the style reminds me of my dancing shoes when I was into Argentine tango. Classic!

  18. Great outfit. Looking forward to wearing white jeans soon. It is still too cold here. Just wanted to say that your hair looks perfect!

  19. Great look today and not just the clothing. You’re looking trim and fit in your all white. Moving and house hunting looks good on you.

  20. Love this outfit! Very pretty shoes! I really like your purse too, can you tell us more about it? Thanks so much, I really enjoy your posts. They always start my day off right.

  21. I love everything about this outfit, and you look great in it! White jeans and a denim jacket are still on my wish list, as are a comfortable sandal with a heel. I think a bit of shopping is on my to-do list today! Glad you are having some better weather. Still waiting for Spring to actually arrive here.
