How To Save Money With Some Favorite Brands

Are you a fan of saving money on things? OK, that was an unfair question. I certainly am, especially on brands that I know and love. Almost every retailer has a factory outlet or discount version now so let’s look at how to save money with favorite brands.

I would be remiss to not thank you for your kind comments yesterday. To be honest, I am sort of dreading Thursday morning when I won’t get to join you in the comment section. Let’s see how long I last at this smaller schedule.

Cindy and I are back today for our monthly Style Edit Over 50, and this month, we’re sharing some great finds we’ve made at factory outlets and stores.

I started my hunt at the Banana Republic Factory because I love their classic shapes and quality. For a very limited time, BR Factory is giving an extra 15% off their great discounted prices, no code needed.

I fell hard for the fabrication of this sweater last fall and bought it in several colors. (Dressing Room Diary Try-On Session at Banana Republic

When it disappeared from the Banana Republic site, I was sorry I hadn’t bought a few more. Surprise, I found them at the BR Factory store. They come in 11 colors, sizes regular and petite XXS-XL. I am wearing a regular small. They also have the crew neck option in 15 colors here. I also bought the granite blue, but haven’t worn it yet.

I don’t know if these sweaters are made for the factory store, nor do I care because the fabric blend is identical and the quality is as fabulous as the ones I bought at 3 times the price last fall.

These slim-fitting Chino’s are another great find from BR Factory. I was worried about the rise because the description said mid-rise, but they have a highrise on me and I have a long torso… so go figure. They come in regular, petite, and tall, sizes 0-20, in 5 great colors. I’m wearing “dream” in 6 regular which matches my sweater perfectly for a column of color.

I also boughtĀ this classic cotton shirt that comes in 3 colors, sizes regular and petite. I could not resist this orchid petal color which is so plentiful this season. I’m wearing a regular medium to keep it roomy, but you could size it down for a fitted look. Honestly, it’s hard to beat this 100% cotton classic shirt for $32.99. I’m wearing it with my Talbots slim white jeggings and Cole Haan white sneakers.

I also bought the forever sweater in camp pink which makes me smile every time I wear it. Same white jeans as above which have now sadly gone through a load of laundry that contained a brand new navy shirt, and they’re toast. I’ve pretreated them, laundered them several times, and bleached them twice. Oh well, I was really over wearing skinny jeans for now.

100% COTTON POLO SWEATER

Now that I know how lovely the quality is at BR Factory, I’ve ordered a few more things, like this 100% cotton polo sweater. We are planning to go on a cruise this summer and I will need some cotton sweaters. This straw camera crossbody is also a nice summer option for a structured shape with a lighter appeal than leather.

Thank you for your well presented content always consistent, well thought out and entertaining. I look forward to and enjoy your posts!!

    1. I’m so glad you enjoy it, Lucy. Thanks for being here with us.

Gosh, I can’t remember the last time I went to an outlet mall (not one close by). I think I need a day trip!

I always toss a Shout Color Sheet in the washer with each load. If I’m laundering a new red or navy item, I’ll add two sheets. They work! If you do spill coffee, tea or wine on something washable, soak it for several hours (or over night) in warm water and a couple of scoops of OxyClean. It has worked when a glass of red wine was spilled on a white shirt and a glass of iced tea on a white denim jacket.

Enjoy your Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Hopefully, now I will be able to keep up with your blogs. It seems I’m always a couple of days behind. Looking forward to hearing about your upcoming cruise.

    1. I did no know about the shout color sheets! Iā€™m buying some today. Thank you!!

You find them at the grocery store or Target. Good luck on keeping your new white jeans white!

  3. I like BR Factory as well (J Crew Factory too) & seem to always find something when shopping in the store or online. I have both of these stores in my local area now, so even if I order online, returns can be fairly easy, if needed. Those sweaters you boughtā€”they are so nice! Iā€™ve picked up a few of the crewneck versions & love how soft & thin they are. Living in the South means super-thick sweaters are not needed very often. My husband has had good luck with mens clothing from both BR Factory & J Crew Factory. BR makes a ā€œtravel pantā€ for men thatā€™s like a jean but more lightweight & it doesnā€™t really wrinkle. He can wear them to work or more casually, do heā€™s a fan. Thanks for sharing this store with us!

  4. I purchased the Forever sweater and the Slim fit Chinos. What a great price, and I’m so glad you posted here, and I have not tried BR before. I thought the brand would not work for me! You look great so I’m taking the chance and ordering. Thanks for the post.

    1. I hope they work for you! I love mine

  5. The consignment stores are another option. I know Poshmark creeps some people out, thinking of it as an online thrift store, but it has been wonderful for me. As I have mentioned in the past, my house burned down during a California wildfire. I had some clothes I really loved, and I was able to find duplicates on Poshmark. Many were Eileen Fisher, new with or without tags, and since they were from past seasons, I would not find them in Nordstroms. They were also significantly cheaper that what I paid originally. It worked the same for many of my lost Kate Spade bags.

    1. Thanks for mentioning Poshmark, Kay. Many bloggers sell their clothes on there.
I canā€™t imagine how painful it must have been to loose all your things. Iā€™m so sorry.

  6. Sharon Engram says:

    Hi Jennifer,
I enjoy your blog each day and your choices of clothes.
Question, what products do you use on your hair for styling? I know you were going to go natural, but wondering if you have added color. I like your style and length.
    Thank you

    1. This is my natural color. Itā€™s not as white as I was hoping for but a mix of ashy blonde, silver, and white. I use predominantly Kevin Murphy style products and Olaplex shampoos.

      1. Sharon Engram says:

Thank you! I really like the color of your hair and your style. I have allowed my hair to go natural and now am platinum. I find it harder to get my style to hold without the color in it but liking the natural look.

      2. Ditto. Itā€™s flatter and harder to style but I like how it feels.

  7. In person itā€™s called Chicoā€™s outlet. Online itā€™s called Chicoā€™s off the rack. I enjoy getting their elbow sleeve length tees in bright Summer colors. Today, I see they are $15. I still have 4 from 2018 and they arenā€™t looking worn out. Iā€™m going to check out what Cindy shared.

    1. I love Chicoā€™s elbow length tees!

  8. We have a Talbots outlet store nearby. Although the sales associates have told me that they donā€™t carry the same items as the regular Talbots stores, the outlet items are similar in quality and style at lower prices!

    1. Iā€™m envious! Iā€™ll have to hunt one down.

  9. Catherine says:

I find the Sundance outlet to be quite disappointing. Every time I find an item I like, only the very small or very large sizes are left, or else it has gotten terrible reviews. I think they only sell the rejects at that outlet!

    1. Thatā€™s unfortunately the risk with both outlets and waiting for sales. The common sizes sell out first.

  10. Jennifer, can you show us how you put all these clothes away? How do you store your sweaters? Tshirts? Pants and jeans?

    1. Hi Kathy,
I hang everything. When storing sweaters for the season, I fold and put in drawers. Otherwise, everything is on a hanger.

  11. Love my outlets. Favorite outlets are Lee Outlets in the Berkshires. Always find some good deals and it is a great place to spend an afternoon.
Lots of restaurants near buy and it has a good court for quick eats.

    1. That sounds so fun. I love making a day of it.

  12. I saw that blouse after the fact. I adore that color and it looks fabulous on you. I have an older one in that color that has an outdated fit. I love those sweaters on you. Every outfit you put together looks absolutely yummy and shouts Summer. It is always so fun to see what we each select. Funny that we both ended up at Banana. As usual, every tip you offer is spot on. I learn from you everyday!

    1. I thought it funny you zeroed in on BR Factory too. You look amazing in your finds.

  13. Linda Mitchell says:

I picked up a Forever sweater in a boyfriend cardigan style that has been just the right weight for late spring or summer AC ( I live in the hot southeast so itā€™s HOT here right now.) But Iā€™m going back to my BR factory store for pullovers.

    1. I did not see the cardigans! Going back to the site to check now. Thank you.

  14. Lovely outfits this morning. I prefer to shop the outlets over shopping in a mall. I find lots of well priced items; the stores and dressing rooms are clean and well layed out; the sales reps are available and helpful. I shop Talbots, Ralph Lauren, the loft, Vera Bradley, Fossil. I wish J.Jill had an outlet.

    1. I wish JJill did too! I also love the Eileen Fisher outlet. Iā€™ve scored lots of great pieces there.

  15. Iā€™ve spent the last two Covid years buying joggers, hoodies, and soft pj outfits for spending lots of time at home. Now that Iā€™m out and about again, Iā€™m looking for pieces that are casual but more polished and put together. The Forever pullover sweaters from Banana Republic will help me to do that, and Iā€™ve ordered three of them. Thanks for the recommendation.

    1. I hope you love them as much as I do.

  16. For your white jeans — try RIT color remover …. not expensive and just might work.

    1. Thanks for the tip!

  17. The pink sweater is beautiful on you, makes your skin glow!

  18. All of those looks look great on you. I like simple versatile pieces. The blue with blue is very cute.
I shop Loft and J Crew Factory.

  19. Beautiful choices offered to us this morning! White pants that fit well are so good for summer. I especially love the pink top. I would buy it.

    1. Iā€™m trying in every pair of white jeans I can find these days šŸ™‚
