Linen for Days

Happy Sunday ladies. I know some of you are expecting snow but here in Northern California, we’ve been slammed with full-on heat. Our temps hit the mid 90’s last week so the furnace is off and we’re running the AC. Hello spring. It may cool back down but for now, I’m wearing sandals and linen.

Today I’m styling my newest lantern pants. These are the Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing lantern pant with white shirt tied at waist

I have several pairs of pants with this shape but this is my first pair in linen. I love the creative vibe of lantern pants and style them with classic pieces to make the look my own. linen riviera pant with white shirt tied at waist and black sandals worn by Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life

I’ve owned and worn lantern pants for years. You first saw me wear my cotton ones here, then my widest ones here.  So what are lantern pants?

Shape

  • they’re usually a pull-on pant
  • have multiple vertical seams to allow leg shaping
  • are straighter through the hip
  • widen to be full through the knee
  • often have a cropped leg
  • taper in at the ankle.

It’s a very popular shape and easy to wear. Proportion is important to keep in mind when styling this pant.Jennifer of A Well Styled Life wearing white shirt tied at waist, taupe lantern pant and black sandals

How to Style

  • Opt for a slimmer top to balance the leg width
  • Wear with a shorter top that allows most of the pant to show.
  • Because the leg is cropped, an open shoe or sandal is most flattering

These pants have a front leg seam with pockets, which I love. I’m a big fan of pockets so always appreciate them.

This day I wore them with a cream colored blouse, ivory sweater (I knit several years ago) my favorite pearl earrings, pearl lariat necklace, silver bracelet, and black sandals.

By this day the weather was sweltering. I’d switched out my red toe polish to a cooler look and wore the pants with a black cotton tank and sandals, necklace, silver bracelet and a featherlight cotton shirt tied at my waist for shaping.

Because I’m short these pants are ankle length on me which is perfect because I don’t wear cropped pants.

Have you tried lantern pants?

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

A big thank you to Artful Home for partnering on this post. They supplied the pants and I was compensated. All opinions are my own.

  1. I have pants similar to those in a grey color and they are perfect for hot California.

Love the lantern pants. Don’t recall wearing them before but they are slimming for sure. I am self-conscious about my thick waste so usually opt for a longer blouse to cover camis or tees. Any help on that figure flaw would be helpful.

    1. My top is tucked in then pulled partially out to cover the waistband. I find a 3/4 length outer piece helps give a longer line and detracts attention from the waist. Wearing similar colors top and bottom (column of color) also helps because the waistline isn’t highlighted by color change.

Great information about proportion when wearing this type of pants. Can you tell me where you got both pair of shoes? They are so flattering!

    1. My black wedge sandals are new from here.
The black open toe slides are from last year and only available in size 5 & 6 here or if you have a larger foot, this years version is here. Both pairs are super comfy.

  4. Adorable! Really cute pant, and you look nice and cool in that 90 degree heat!
This will be a look I will have to experiment with, to be sure!

  5. All great looks on you Jennifer! I have eyed these styles on the Artful Home website and also as offered by Eileen Fisher. I think for those of us who are shorter, creating a long line from waistband to hem is visually goos, whatever we can do to make our legs loook longer tends to make us look taller. Thaaanks for the post, hope your temps moderate!

    1. You’re exactly right about how much leg we show and our height. I need all the help I can get. Happy Sunday Deanne
