Would You Wear It- Long Topper

Would You Wear It- Long Topper

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. It’s time for would you wear it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we’ve found at a local store and ask what our readers think of how it is styled.

We love to foster discussion in the comments with styling ideas so others can get some inspiration. We all have different tastes and lifestyles so what one woman may love, another may not. Please be respectful and kind in your comments so no one’s feelings are hurt.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this look?

How would you style it to make the items work for your wardrobe and lifestyle?

Here are some Columbus Day weekend sale updates-

Talbots – 30% off your entire purchase.

Ann Taylor– an extra 40% off all sale and free shipping over $125. I was in earlier this week and they have some of the most beautiful faux suede pieces!

Loft – 40% off your purchase with the code FALLFEST. I love this faux fur vest. It’ll be super useful before a full-on coat is required. This poncho is perfect weekend wear in a gorgeous fall color. I love the texture of these booties. They look great with skinny jeans or under the new wide-legged pants.

J. Crew – The big weekend event is on with 40% off your purchase and an extra 50% off sale styles with the code GOBIG. I’ve got my eye out for crocodile-embossed bootie with a low heel and these look wonderful. It’s the kind of shape and texture that will be in style for many, many years. This super-soft mock turtle neck is pretty great but at 40% off and available in 13 colors!

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing here.

Have a wonderful day and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident!

I wouldn’t wear this jacket, although I like it. The big plaid and the double breasted style would swamp me, unfortunately. I’d put it with a top and skirt or skinny pants with a little more texture than these, so they would blend with the top more.

I would love it on my tall sister in law. I just cannot wear these long toppers and plaid wears me and not the other way around. I like the outfit on the left. I love red and I do wear it but blue is really better with my silver hair.

I prefer the outfit to the left. A black suit paired with a bolder shirt than pictured would be my recommendation. Like the topper but would never wear the pencil skirt. However I would add black skinny jeans or black tights .

I love the 2 outfits. The red pencil skirt is adorable. I would try both outfits on and maybe adapt pieces here and there.

What a fabulous topper — and yes, I’d wear it!

This is a great outfit. And I can see this plaid topper as a wonderful addition to my wardrobe. It could be paired with pants or other skirts.

    Really terrific.

I like everything on both mannequins as shown. I would wear both, but would prefer pants instead of the skirt. The long topper is super cute and a glen plaid is always in style. I might like the topper better if it were not double breasted. A single breasted jacket or coat is more my style just because of the amount of extra fabric often adds bulk and I don’t need that. If I wear black on top, I always add a necklace, either goldstone or a color to break up the solid black. As I’ve aged, black near my face is often draining and I prefer more color.

Yes, I would wear it with skinny red pants!!! Like the length as so many toppers and dusters are too long for this 5’2″ gal.

No I would not wear this, mostly because of where I live….in the Vail valley, Colorado. However even if I lived in the city it would not be my choice.

I like all the pieces in this display. There are some pieces I wouldn’t or couldn’t wear for various reasons. The display is well done & would lead me to think about how I could incorporate those pieces I could wear into my own wardrobe. The one change I would make is to make the striped sweater a bit more fitted. As with Pam’s display, I wouldn’t add accessories but would let the buyer imagine what shoes, jewelry, etc. she would wear with the outfit.

Love this. I’m only 5’ tall so I think I’d like the plaid topper to be a bit shorter but would have to try it on first to see where it hits on me. Great colours.

Yes! I like the overall look here and could see all the pieces being worn, mixed and matched with things already in my closet. Win-win!

Very classy office look. I don’t work in an office, so wouldn’t purchase for myself.

Love the plaid topper! I would wear it with black skinnies and a cashmere sweater. Finish it with a cute pair of black booties. It would be a great finishing piece!

I would not wear the topper because it looks too boxy with the double breasted style. I probably wouldn’t wear the skirt either. I would wear the suit in the left but with a different blouse.

Not for me. First off the plaids don’t match from shoulder to sleeve which would drive me crazy. Secondly I wouldn’t wear such a distinctive coat regularly because it’s soo memorable. I’m trying to streamline my wardrobe not add lots of extras so it wouldn’t fit in my overall plan. Like the length in a solid that I could add scarves for a change up look.

I love the outfit. Would probably wear it with skinny jeans. The topper would be better for me if it was shorter, more of a jacket, but I love plaid.

Love the topper and skirt! Would wear that in a flash but not with a black top… I’m not buying any more black clothing, colours for me from now on.

Yes, I would wear this ensemble. Would prefer pants vs. a skirt. I have a topper similar that is several years old but in different colors. I don’t think the double breasted feature on the jacket will impact a fuller bosom if the jacket is not buttoned.

  19. October 12, 2019 / 8:06 am

I have a very similar topper that I wear with pants and love. So yes…I would wear it but style it differently!

For starters, do not care for ‘mock’ turtle necks. As for the style of coat which I like because of its classic lines, would much prefer it in an alternative fabric as I’ve seen very similar garments done in a cheap version of polyester. (Same plaid and color wave.) Secondly if worn with the shown skirt would want its hemline about three horizontal full stripes shorter; otherwise as others have suggested would wear it with either skinny pants/leggings or a longer skirt paired with a suitable style of footwear. As for the skirt itself though I do like it, feel its length and front slit is more appropriate for someone younger than myself. (I’m well past senior citizen age.) As for the other outfit, honestly too blah for my liking however might consider the jacket and pants as individual pieces but definitely not the top as it just doesn’t appeal to me. -Brenda-

This outfit is not for me as it is. First, the jacket is double breasted which is only going to emphasize my large bust size. If it was single breasted, then I could wear the jacket with a skirt and top of the same color so I had a column of the same color under the jacket. As it is worn here, it is too chopped up for me. My preference would be a plaid with the red as the dominant color and pants and top in a dark color pulled from the plaid. Shoes with a heel matched to the pants and a purse in an accent color pulled from the plaid.

I wouldn’t wear this outfit. There’s too much going on for my taste. Individually all the pieces are great. I’d wear the topper with pants and a top of the same color to get a slimming column of color going.

Very pleasing to the eye. Loving the black top and red skirt. Jacket is a great topper! Those colorful stripes peeking out from the black topper is the bomb! Give this mannequin stylist a high five!

Yes, I’d wear the topper and the skirt. I’d wear a different style top that would work better with my body type. I hope they come I petites.

I would wear the topper and the red skirt – I would switch out the sweater fir a black blouse or crew neck as I don’t like anything tight on my neck. I would also wear the suit on the 2nd second mannequin, with a blouse, rather than a sweater.

Yes, I love a long topper. I don’t wear skirts since I retire but with skinny pants they look great!

Yes, I love everything about this outfit. The topper is a great length. The red skirt with the black turtleneck are a great combo. I think I’d pair these pieces with tall black boots.

Yep, can definitely see this with a pair of skinnies or straight leg jeans and heeled booties.

I am actually liking this long topper. If I had the courage to wear red skinny pants, I would definitely put on the black top and add the topper. Black booties would finish the look for me.

  30. October 12, 2019 / 3:49 am

Yes. I would wear this. Love the pencil skirt! I have some ideas of various tops that would be interesting too. Love the coat style and plaid is ok, but would prefer in a different color combination plaid. But, still this one does work with the skirt color….like them together very much!
(Also like the outfit on the mannequin to left)!
