Look of the Week: The Perfect Denim Jacket

Look of the Week: The Perfect Denim Jacket

Happy Monday ladies! Today’s look of the week is for a casual day around town. We visited our tax accountant last week and grabbed these photo’s before we saw her. I wore slim stretch pants, a classic white shirt, smoking loafers and a denim jacket. I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect, classic denim jacket for several years. It needed to have stretch built in, be a versatile medium wash and shaped to flatter rather than be boxy. Bingo, I found one that rings all those bells plus it’s affordable.

It’s cotton and spandex fabric is very comfy and it’s shaped at the waist to give you a feminine silhouette.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing comfort stretch pants from White House Black Market

These pants have a fabulous fit. They’re a machine washable cotton/polyester and spandex so very comfortable. I’m wearing the regular but they also come in petite here, and plus size here.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing denim jacket from Macy's

I added this ridiculously inexpensive necklace that I love. It adds just enough sparkle to simple necklines. Who said jewelry needs to be costly to make an impact? Not me.

I am wearing this denim jacket in petite. This regular version comes in 13 colors, 4 of which are seriously marked down. The plus size is here.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing denim jacket from Macy's

Here’s the same shape jacket with embroidery which is huge for spring.

I can’t own this jacket in every color… but I’m tempted. Especially this floral jacket which I picture with white pants or jeans all summer. Imagine it over a sundress for a little coverage at night. The fit is stellar and the price is really amazing.

I love that this jacket you feature has very high front pockets to avoid bulk in the bust area. Will certainly check it out at Macy.

      It’s a great classic shape.

Terrific fit and colour on you! I wish it was available and that Macy’s was here in Canada. I will look around for something like it. I am currently wearing a 10 year-old (?) denim jacket that I still love but this would be even better!

    • February 26, 2018 / 10:07 pm

Thanks so much. Luckily, the classics never go out of style Janet!

I just purchased a denim jacket and plan to wear it when our weather warms up…such a versatile piece in ones wardrobe and I love the way that you have styled yours!

First off, I love short jackets. At 5’2″ I feel frumpy in longer lengths. Once and for all, denim with denim, do or don’t? Will the rounded hem date this jacket?

I like everything about your look. Your white shirts look great on you. I’m also blonde and white looks terrible on me! How come?

    • February 26, 2018 / 10:11 pm

Is your hair warm or cool blonde? When in doubt, add more lipstick:) The curved front hem is one of the reasons this jacket looks feminine to me. It won’t date it for me but I like to march to my own drummer and at this price, why not.

It’s not warm enough here for a denim jacket and not cold enough to wear underneath an anorak. But, I have three in my closet waiting with bated breath to be released and fly. Soon butterfly….soon. ????
I love the black one with the embroidery. Do they ship?

Would also love to know how see through the white shirt is. I adore crisp white shirts but haven’t found one in years that didn’t seem too thin.

    • February 26, 2018 / 10:15 pm

It is not see through at all. Wearing a nude bra is the way to go under white as they show less.

I have a denim blazer. I think I’ll give it away.

My favorite jean jacket is black.

You look sharp as a tack in this outfit. I really like the curve seamed denim jacket. Wise purchase. Yet it is the perfect combination of the shoes and pants that knocks me out in your photos. The color or the shape of both pieces —the ratio of fabric, leather, and skin just works so well. I’d put it in heavy rotation if this was in my wardrobe.

    • February 26, 2018 / 10:19 pm

Thank you so much. I felt great wearing it and will be wearing it a lot!

You look great in this jacket, Jennifer. With my curvy figure, I am still in search of the best fit in a denim jacket which flatters my figure. So glad you found one! Maybe someday I will have the same success.

I just bought this very jacket at Macy’s on Saturday. It comes in misses sizes and plus sizes. It has amazing stretch and I find it very flattering. I, like you, are teetering between plus and regular sizes. I bough the 1X but I just noticed they have an XXL available in misses online. I am thinking about ordering one in that size to compare the fit.

Sorry, I meant this reply for Pamela. I know you are a petite. I fell in love with this jacket the minute I tried it on!

        • February 26, 2018 / 10:21 pm

I did too. It is so flattering!

Hey Jennifer, I found the perfect jean jacket two years ago at Nordstrom…Now I consider it my security blanket…wear it as a completer piece for my mixing “dressy -with- casual” current style…So glad you featured your own special denim jacket find…How’s Lucy?…..

    • February 26, 2018 / 10:25 pm

Lucy is the picture of health! Thanks for asking Deede. She is getting fat as a tick and thriving on warmed roasted chicken and rice mixed in with her kibble. If we have chicken for dinner, she looks at us like we are stealing her food so of course, I have to give her some of mine.

    1. Love this look on you! What other colors are you considering?
    2. If you were a pear shape would this style/length proportionately be acceptable it wwould it call attention to the widest part of the body? I have avoided the shorter jacket over contrasting longer shirt for that reason.
    Thanks for your spirit, Jennifer!

    • February 26, 2018 / 10:04 pm

I love the floral because it looks so fresh. You should experiment with a lighter colored short jacket over darker bottoms. Try having the darkest color be the shirt and pants and jacket being lighter.

I love your denim jacket with the white shirt. So classic! You look great!
I’m going to have to try this look. Thanks, Jennifer!

Thanks Beth, I really like the look too!

I have not worn denim jackets in many years but now might need to give them a try again! What I have been searching for is a white blouse that isn’t so thin you can see my bra and the tops of my pants through it. I have tried all of my old favorites and none seem to fit the bill. Even Talbot’s white shirt is too see through these days. I hate the feel of a cami under my blouses and know somewhere out there must be a white button-down blouse that you can’t see through! Lands End used to me my go-to shirt but there are not what they used to be. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!
    Have a great Monday!

If you’re just looking for a plain white button-down that isn’t see through, try the men’s department. Most women’s shirts and blouses are made from very thin material these days.

Hi Linda, I’ve had a lot of success with the white blouses from Banana Republic for it’s opacity. Specifically this one: Banana Republic Dillon-Fit Oxford pocket shirt, $4. Good Luck!

LL Bean makes a great no-iron white shirt! My favorite!

My favorite white button-down is from Chico’s.

    • February 26, 2018 / 9:56 pm

Chico’s no iron ones are very opaque.

Does the jacket button or always open? Love the Look and Posts.

    • February 26, 2018 / 9:54 pm

It does button. It is snug but not too tight because of the stretch.
