Look of the Week: Unwinding In Style

Happy Monday ladies. The more casual my lifestyle becomes the more often I reach for comfy clothes. Anything that binds or feels stuffy has no place in my retirement wardrobe. I like clothes with unique shapes and details which make them stand out from the ordinary while being easy care and easy to wear.Jennifer from A Well Styled Life wears Bee Jacket from Artful Home in Periwinkle Blue

Today I’m sharing theBee Jacket on Jennifer of A Well Styled LifeThis jacket is available in several great colors but I couldn’t resist this stunning periwinkle. Depending on your height it can be worn as a dress, jacket or tunic, which I’m styling for you here. Jennifer Connolly or A Well Styled Life wearing Bee Jacket from Artful Home as a dress

Because I’m petite, it makes a great casual dress over black tights and booties. Its soft fabric is very snuggly without being too warm. I’m one of those women who love pockets in everything and these on-seam ones are in the perfect spot so my hands naturally gravitate to them.Jennifer of A Well Styled Life wearing Bee Jacket from Artful Home as a dress

The bubble hem creates a tulip shape through the hip area which floats over tummy and thighs and can hide a multitude of sins. The waist has exposed seamed edging in the front waist and subtle gathers in the back which accentuates the bubble shape.back of bee jacket from Artful Home

Here I’ve styled it as Jennifer of A Well Styled Life wears Bee Jacket from Artful Home in Periwinkle blue over a white shirt and black jeans

This Bee Jacket is designed and made in the USA from a soft cotton/spandex fabric which holds it’s shape making it perfect to travel in.Jennifer of A Well Styled Life wearing Bee Jacket over black leggings

On a blustery day with intermittent showers, I wore it as a long tunic over black leggings and tank with black sneakers. My hair got trashed pretty quickly but the Bee Jacket kept its polish. This was the perfect outfit for running errands on a day I needed to be comfy.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Bee jacket from Artful Home over black leggings and tank

The lantern shaped silhouette is flattering on both straight and curvy figures. I love how it gives my straight figure the illusion of curves where I have none.

I can see this worn over a cotton maxi dress in the spring and over a slim 3/4 skirt in the fall. It will also be awesome over blue or white jeans in the summer. The weight of this jacket makes it a year-round piece that’s versatile and adds pizazz to everything you put it over.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life styling the Bee Jacket from Artful Home

  1. I love the coat/dress – especially the blue. I think I prefer it as a dress, it looks so elegant. Love – Jill x

You look adorable! Are those black sneakers ‘ecco’ brand? I have been wanting to try those. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks, Teresa. They are Ecco and I love them. I have a black pair and a white pair and have my eye on blue for spring.

      1. I bought a pair of Ecco in slate. So comfy, stylish and they go with everything. I’m gong back to buy a pair in white.
Love your Bee top. It’s very cute and versatile. Sadly, it would cost too much time I figure in the conversion, duties and shipping. Otherwise, it would be finding it’s way here.

I LOVE that jacket! It looks so cute and comfy but also very stylish. Headed over to Artful home NOW!

I semi-retired last year, left my job in higher ed and went to work part time for a non-profit I have been a member of for years. It has given me a renewed zest for life. And my wardrobe has changed too. I can dress even more casually than in my old job so my purchases for this year have been mostly yoga pants and tops that I can wear for work, errands and even for work outs. But of course I want to look pulled together as well as comfortable so a jacket like this one hits all the marks for me.

As always, love your blog and all the great fashion tips as well as life advice. Retirement is a wonderful time but there are so many decisions to make it can feel as over-whelming as my younger years.

    1. This is a great piece for the wardrobe you describe Susan. Comfy yet polished. I totally agree that this time of life seems to have more large decisions than I anticipated. Thanks for joining our conversation and sharing your wisdom! xx

  4. Jennifer, you wear that dress better than the models at the Artful Home site! I would never buy clothes online without trying them on first. I am just very picky about fit. Also, I would not spend $150 on a cotton dress. It’s a pretty color on you though.

    1. Thanks Lily. It’s really a jacket I chose to style several ways 😉

  5. It looks like a great versatile piece….is it heavy?

  6. Great color, and I especially like it worn over leggings and a tank. A stylish casual look! I have a denim dress that I have worn open as a topper, it’s fun to experiment with wearing something in multiple ways.

  7. This is one of my favorite colors.

  8. Sandy Dugger says:

I love all the Artful Home things I have ordered from them. This jacket just may have to come with me too. I love the color and style. I would be helpful to let us know what size you ordered since all clothes fit a bit differently. You look just great in all the looks for this jacket! Thanks for the post.

    1. I’m wearing a medium in this jacket. I had worn a small in the raspberry Bee Hoodie last year but I’ve put in a few pounds since then.

  9. So cute!! I love all the styles for this top and I might be able to afford it. I am a pocket lover too and find it so hard to find styles with pockets, particularly pants. That would be a much appreciated post of stylish fashions with pockets including some pants. Enjoy your posts!

    1. I looove pockets. I’ll see what I can come up with for you but pant pockets often add bulk ladies don’t like.

  10. Susan Gowan says:

Love the versatile choice today. Also love the colour as I a gravitate toward calming blues. As I am not petite , would not do the dress but in my younger days I did. Love tunics in all the way you showed. Just hope I can find something like this in Canada. Thankyou, Jennifer!

    1. Hi Susan, I don’t know where you live but some of the clothing carried by Artful Home in the U.S. is carried in better boutiques in Canada. In Ottawa Shepherd’s Fashions carries the Comfy USA brand which is featured on the Artful Home site. You might try contacting the manufacturer directly and asking them where their products are sold in Canada. You can always order from Artful Home. Most American retailers are shipping to Canada these days and will provide you with the cost in CDN $ OR they go through BorderFree. I have ordered many items from American retailers with no problems, no paying duty at the door because they figure it all out for you when you pay. Many times the price reduction of a sale item actually covers the USD vs CDN difference. If it’s a retailer that has ‘bricks and morter’ stores north of the border ie Nordstrom or J. Crew they will take your purchase back and you don’t need to ship it for returns)
On the other hand…Montréal? Worth a trip…some of the best and most stylish clothing I own I purchase there and while some of it originates in the States I have never seen it in other stores (I am 5’1″ and 175lbs so no fashion model!) Good luck!

      1. I lived in Montreal for a few years. The French Canadian women sure know how to dress. Yes, the shopping is fantastic. It’s our little bit of France right in our own country. Quebec City is a wonderful city to visit. So much history, good food and shopping.

  11. The weather may have played havoc with your hair, but I’m really loving how it (normally) looks these days.
I’m thinking retirement is on the horizon for me in the next year, so transitioning my wardrobe will be interesting. After so many years in the legal field, I find myself automatically drawn to more tailored, conservative clothing. I enjoy your blob greatly and appreciate the style inspiration.

  12. Cheryl Ann says:

Jennifer, you look so cute in that jacket…it’s perfect for you and maybe even me, since our coloring is similar. Love It!

  13. where did you get black booties and leopard belt

  14. Such cute outfits all centered on this beautiful periwinkle topper/dress. You look great. It is flattering and as you show, so versatile.
