Mannequin Redo and the Black Friday Sales

Happy Wednesday, ladies. I have two mannequins today, neither of which I changed dramatically but I thought it would be fun anyway so grab another cup of coffee or tea because I’ve also got a rundown on the Black Friday sales.

It felt a bit off to me so I swapped the pants out and added a cardigan.

No earth-shattering change here but it’s closer to how I would wear this blouse. I would wear other shoes..these are what I wore into the store.

Then I saw this mannequin. This gal just looked like she’d been checked out by other customers because her cardigan was falling off her shoulders.

I’m seeing a lot of sweaters with this tribal motif in the stores these days and was curious to try it on.

The gray felt a little drab with the sweater so I chose the same turtleneck, but in a blue to pick up the blue in the cardigan pattern. When I belted it, I got a bathrobe vibe on me. It would probably help if I was 5″ taller:)

  1. Too funny – the first thing I thought of when I saw that second sweater was “of dear – that would look like a bathrobe on me” And then – you said it! I wonder if being taller would help. No matter because I am not and so I will not go there. A pity because I like the combination you put together. Happy Thanksgiving

  2. Hi Jennifer! Happy Thanksgiving!
I absolutely didn’t like the mannequin and like someone else pointed out, I wouldn’t have stopped to look. I’m way too conservative to mix my patterns.
I enjoyed the way you brought both outfits together, but even at 5 ft 4 in it would not work. The pattern on your 2nd outfit would make me look pudgy and is way too heavy for our warm Texas weather. But, as always you did a wonderful job of making everything look classy. Then again….you’d look beautiful in a sackcloth. 😉

  3. I liked your spin on the first outfit, it looked great too! I got the robe vibe from the second one too. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. The first outfit doesn’t work for me. Maybe I’m a little behind the times, but I really have issues with mixing patterns. I really like the second outfit, just wish the cardigan came in a petite. The colors are terrific.

  5. Like you in the first and second outfit instead of Miss Mannequin’s look.
    Yours is so classic.
    Absolutely love both outfits.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

  6. I liked both stylings of the first outfit. The stores version was a bit more subtle and monochromatic, but both yours and theirs was attractive.
No go for outfit #2 for me. As you said, too bathrobe -y. I agree with another reader that says better on a pillow or a wall. Thanks for what you do.

  7. Your redo was great, but not a fan of the sweater in term of the color and the motif. Liked the second mannequin minus the sweater. Have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family 🦃🦃🦃

  8. Oh wow! The way you’ve got these items dressed is so much better. Like the blouse with your jeans and open cardigan . At first glance I thought mannequin one was rather hopeless! So drab!
The second mannequin is a bit interesting but disheveled I think. I own a wonderful tribal sweater similar but navy background with orange and gold design. I get so many compliments on it. I found it at Marshall’s ! This one you show has an interesting pattern but it is cut too long and I don’t happen to like it paired with that grey top. Some color from the sweater is needed to create a nice look!

  9. Like everyone else I greatly prefer your styling of both outfits. I love a long cardigan/duster, but I agree that the second one takes on a definite bathrobe vibe when belted. That would limit its usefulness, so I’d have to pass, but it sure looked great with the blue turtleneck.

    1. Outfit #1: no problem matching prints/floral, the colors were so bland until you added the blue sweater. Would have no problem wearing the outfit after that.
Outfit#2: fabric was just to heavy for most people. Even those of us who are 5′ taller. I think, there is a market, thou, for this complete outfit just as it is.

  10. The mannequin as is, does not look good to me. You made the items look better.
The blouse print and color is not appealing to me though. The tribal sweater is too long, and looks like a bathrobe. I think both sweaters are too long. Solid sweater over busy blouse looks better and solid pants. I would never wear the tribal sweater. I think I would pass on buying any of these, not my style.

  11. Hi Jennifer, Your idea for the blouse with other pants and the sweater is definitely a winner! I thought it looked rather strange with the checked pants.
Hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving! I know you will since your daughter will be home.

    1. Thanks. Sadly my daughter won’t be home until Christmas. Since she lives in Vancouver, it’s not Thanksgiving there so she has work.

  12. I like your color combinations much better, but both cardigans/dusters look like bathrobes to me. Just a bit too cozy.

  13. Happy Thanksgiving, Jennifer. I didn’t like either one of the outfits. Yes, you made it better, as you typically do, but still, no. The pants are awful and the blouse reminds me of my grandmother. The collar on the other sweater is terrible, and you’re exactly right — the sweater screams ‘bathrobe’ to me as well.

  14. I love the motif sweater & like you, just need about 5-6 more inches in height. The blue top makes it.
The first mannequin needs to get a new outfit for the Holidays😌. Not appealing to me at all. I do like your combo with the blouse.

  15. I would have walked by the first mannequin without a second glance the way it is styled. Too bland. But I love the blouse the way you styled it with dark gray jeans and a sweater. It stands out. Instead of blah it is a soft and flattering color way.
The tribal sweater is a no for me. I cannot hop on that trend. Even restyled, it is just too much. I am tall and it would still look like a bathrobe at that length.

  16. You changed the outfits in a more visual pleasing manner. And the way I would wear them too. Love the first on and you were spot on with the second. Agree no belt on the second.
