Midweek Pop-up- Casual and Colorful

Midweek Pop-up- Casual and Colorful

Happy Wednesday ladies. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing zucchini recipes on Monday. I’m beginning to think I should put together A Well Styled Life readers cookbook with all your recipes so I can keep them in one place. More on that later because it’s time for our mid-week “would you wear it” pop-up.

Each week, on Saturday, my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we’ve found and ask our readers if they would wear what it’s modeling. Since most of us are at home these days, we decided a mid-week version would be fun as well and many of you are enjoying it.

Mannequins are hard to come by these days 🙂 so I’m using an image from a website. If you hate it, you can be sure another woman loves it so please keep your comments personal to you. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s talk about fashion.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this?

Does it fit your shape and lifestyle?

How could you make it work for you?

Some other colorful tops

Now let’s go over to Over 50 Feeling 40 and see what outfit Pam is sharing.

Be well and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I have very good luck with SS, both quality and service. So I am surprised at poor reviews. I hope this is in my local store when it re-opens next week, because I want to try it on. Like someone said, I too am a brick and mortar gal, I have shopped online during lockdown, but I like to try things on. I I love how upbeat the colors are. It’s a happy look.
Talbots has several pretty Madras plaids in the latest catalog, and I believe one is a blue/green combo.

Bright cheerful colors, cute detail with the bottom side buttons, flattering V neckline, and it pairs well with these white jeans and would also go well with a dark denim. BUT, plaids that don’t match at all at seams aren’t a look I can live with

Love everything about this outfit! Wish I owned it!

I love the outfit exactly as shown, but the reviews lead me to wonder if the photo is a very accurate rendering of the actual top. I would want to see it in person, feel the fabric, examine the workmanship, and try it on, but I’m definitely a brick and mortar shopper as opposed to a fan of ordering online. That being said, I love the classy casual style. As one with a slim, boyish figure who rarely ever tucks anything in, I like the big buttons on the sides.

What a lovely, cheerful outfit! Thanks for brightening my day. The colors in this shirt are just a little too intense for my coloring and taste, but I love the idea of a madras plaid (just more pinks and blues for my skintone) and white pants. I’d probably also choose white crops or capris in the summer heat. The sandals are adorable; however, these days with sanitation in mind more than ever, I am on the lookout for closed toe, slingback flats. If only I could find some! I really like the idea that Norma G (above) put forward about wearing the shirt open with a tank underneath. Thank you!

This is a happy shirt. Love the bright colors and the buttons on the side give it a one of a kind look. I had to look up what kind of fabric it is and cotton is my favorite. I personally can not wear polyester because it’s way to hot for me. Beautiful shirt
      Thanks for the share

This outfit looks fabulous and I would wear it with a little tweaking. I would add a colorful tank under the plaid shirt and leave the shirt open. I rarely wear a fitted/ semi fitted woven top because they tend to feel constricting. I love the bright colors of the top and adding a tank in one of the colors from plaid would add another dimension and accent which ever color I wanted. A bold plaid like this one can add weight and leaving this shirt open over a tank adds a vertical line which adds height instead of just width. A bright top with white pants is always a great look for summer.

I like a madras print but as a petite woman I think this will overwhelm me but I like it on the model. Maybe you have to be tall to carry it off. Not crazy about the buttons on the side I wish SS had used a smaller and prettier version as I think it looks a bit clunky. But love the white jeans.
Thanks for the fun conversation Jennifer have a happy week!

I love this look! I could also see it with yellow capris, or dark jeans. I agree with one of the comments about SS dropping in quality. I usually love their things, but now have to try on, first. No stores near me, so I return through the mail.

I like the pretty colors in the top but I have a larger bust and wearing woven tops can lead to gaping. I’m also not sure I’d like the buttons emphasizing my tummy/hips. I’ ve been thinking a pair of slim straight-legged white pants would be a good addition to my summer wardrobe. I like the curved hem detail. I read the website description and the pants are cotton/poly. I like how pants with a touch of stretch keep their shape so I hesitate to buy a cotton/poly blend. When I think about it, I wore cotton/poly blends w/o stretch for years so it’s funny that now I’d hesitate. Age and a few more pounds make a difference as far as comfort is concerned!

    • Jennifer

Comfort is key to me so I always buy things with stretch

    June 10, 2020 / 10:49 am

I would wear this outfit. The bright colors on the top are perfect for summer, & the buttons make it a bit unique. Of course, white pants are a summer staple for me.

    June 10, 2020 / 10:44 am

I love this outfit and almost purchased the top. However, the review stopped me. I wear bright colors in the summer so this top with those buttons called out my name. I often purchase online from SS, since I’m not near a store, but sadly this won’t be coming to my home.

    Hi Jennifer !
I appreciate all the practical advice you give. Just letting you know that I love the outfit from Soft Surroundings… especially the colorful shirt! I would wear that outfit just as is.

  16. Joan
    June 10, 2020 / 9:51 am

I love the blend of colors in this shirt and I do like white pants. However, I would not buy this shirt. Reading the online review (very negative!) indicates that this isn’t exactly as described. If it really is 100% cotton, then it would require ironing (which I don’t do). And if it’s crinkly polyester as the reviewer indicates, I don’t like the crinkly look.

Totally my style. Cool and comfortable, and less exposed skin to sunblock. I wear outfits like this often in the summer. This avoids the huge, gaping armhole issue of sleeveless tops, which seem designed to show off underwear. Does anyone really need more armpit exposure? What is going on with fit these days?

This is a very wearable outfit. I have two madras plaid shirts ($5 thrifted) in my closet already. I wear them with stacks of cololful beaded bracelets, white jeans shorts and white Keds.

The pants are great although I did not see what the fabric content is. I would look at them in the stone color and about any color would work for a top. I don’t wear prints so would run from the plaid top which will look great on someone else.

At first glance I did not think this outfit was for me. I looked at it a bit, noticed the buttons and the cut and changed my mind. I love the blouse I want the pants but I must try them on.

  27. Suzi

Love the fit and silhouette of the blouse just not the blocky color. Do wish there was another color I LOVE a button detail.

Hi! The outfit isn’t me. I’m 68 years young and love clothes! I think I buy just to buy sometimes! I’m trying to stop doing that and am now buying more things that I can wear forever! Or until I’m heaven bound! 😇
I just LOOOOVE your refreshing posts! I NEEVER get interested in anything like this but I always look forward to see what you have to say! 😊
The first time I saw you was when you were talking about the Artist shirt from Artful Home. I too have this shirt but had to send it back for a smaller size. I hope I will love it as much as I love it in the pictures!!! I love most of their clothes so much!!! I probably have around 40 white shirts hanging in my closet. 🥴
I am going to start weeding everything out and down to the basics! It’s ridiculous having so many things in your closet that you just don’t wear!!!!
Thank you so much for your refreshing posts! You are such a lovely person!

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 3:24 pm

Thank you, Holly! I weeded my white shirts down a few months ago because I had way way too many…but I never fail to find other great ones:)

  29. Martha
    June 10, 2020 / 6:54 am

I give the pants a yes, although I have trouble keeping white clean. I’m too clumsy! The shirt is just too loud for me. I’m not a huge fan of plaid either. The buttons on the side are cute though. I do have trouble with color on top and white on the bottom because I’m so curvy and pear-shaped.

  30. Susan
    June 10, 2020 / 6:38 am

Love this look! Love the colors of the top. Very disappointed in its two reviews though……

  31. Donna Nance
    June 10, 2020 / 6:33 am

At first glance, I really like this outfit and would probably wear it. It is bright, it is a plaid but the colors are cheerful. I do like the button trim. It’s a shame the quality is inadequate. Years ago, I had a plaid top and matching skirt in a pastel plaid and loved it.

  32. Pamela Over 50 Feeling 40
    June 10, 2020 / 6:09 am

I think the outfit is super cute, but the style is not really my style. I might try it on to see what I think, but typically I do not wear plaid like this.

  33. Shari
    June 10, 2020 / 6:09 am

Love this outfit! Could see dressing it up with earrings and jewelry for dinner or shorts for the beach…however, I have a similar one from Talbots that I’ve loved this spring. It’s shear and needs a cami so a problem for these hot days here in Tennessee…already the nineties!

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 3:22 pm

I prefer cotton camis which are hard to find.

  34. Trish
    June 10, 2020 / 5:56 am

    Love the look and colors.
Especially like it has a collar.
Many designers do not take into consideration that As we get older our neck is first to show age so a collar helps to soften and camouflage.

  35. Donna
    June 10, 2020 / 5:54 am

From the photo I really love the overall outfit, it just feels like summer to me. Having said that and having read the reviews you might not get what is exactly pictured colour wise or quality wise.

I like the overall style of the top and I love the colours as pictured, but I am not a fan of the big white buttons down the sides of the shirt. They have no purpose other than to attract the eye to the hip area and to make the choice of tucking in the top impossible. I’d remove them.

The white pants look like a great staple piece.

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 1:03 pm

Great point. I would remove the buttons too.

  36. MRSBEN2
    June 10, 2020 / 5:44 am

Re the top; such happy colours but still a no for me namely due that its a plaid and because of its longer length as would be difficult to tuck-in if you wanted it to, not to mention its poor reviews in workmanship etc. Regarding the pants; might consider them as do like their tulip hemline and longer length but would definitely have to try them on to confirm their fit.

  37. Barb
    June 10, 2020 / 5:40 am

The plaid is too loud for me. The colors are pretty, but not my style. Also, I prefer tops without collars. It seems a little warm for summer. But, bright is good on a dreary day!

  38. Audrey
    June 10, 2020 / 5:36 am

I like the outfit. The top has more color than I normally buy, but would be good for me to get out of my safe box.

  39. Linda
    June 10, 2020 / 5:32 am

I like the overall look, but I would want the shirt to be in a cool, flow fabric or blend like tencel or modal. While I don’t wear yellow, the other colors help to balance it out. I like that the background is white and not ivory…much better with my coloring.

  40. sheryl beil
    June 10, 2020 / 5:26 am

i love the blouse, but i would need to try it on…the buttons on the side might not work for my bottom, would depend on the fit, i wouldnt want to be making constant adjustments to pull it back down to where it was suppose to be….the print and colors are great, but the big checkers might not be friendly to me…ankle pants are just a no, and the shoes i need just a touch of support, super flat like that arent for me…but make them a slight wedge and the pants capris…and im all in!

  41. Michele
    June 10, 2020 / 5:18 am

I love, love, love this look. The bright colors of the shirt contrast beautifully with the white pants. I so wish there was a Soft Surroundings near me so I could go in and try on their clothes.

  42. Talitha
    June 10, 2020 / 5:13 am

I love this look! Happy and summery and put together and perfect for those air conditioned situations that are a little chilly. The side buttons add interest to an otherwise plain shirt and everyone needs white pants or jeans in their wardrobe. These are so cute with the curved hmline. The poor reviews would keep me from buying this outfit but I could shop my closet today and put it together.

  43. Linda GR
    June 10, 2020 / 5:03 am

I really like the colorful top, but not the length. The detail on the pants hem is appealing. I would not wear those sandles as my feet are not pretty.
    Thank you for the popups.

  44. Linda Gaertner
    June 10, 2020 / 5:00 am

I love the entire outfit but when I read the view I might rethink the blouse. The style of the blouse and the colors are great but polyester is too hot for me.

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 1:02 pm

I would question the reviewer saying it is not cotton. It is against the law to mislabel fabric. She may have thought it was polyester but if the tag says cotton, I suspect it is.

  45. Joyce Reardon
    June 10, 2020 / 4:59 am

I would wear this. It’s a happy outfit. Colors are pretty especially paired with the white pants.

  46. Jan
    June 10, 2020 / 4:55 am

I really like so much about this top. The clear, bright colors and the v neck and 3/4 sleeves all work for me. Also, the longer length and extra side detail are very nice. Now the question of whether this will be added to my closet. According to a review, this top was misrepresented as a cotton fabric but actually was a crinkly polyester fabric. If so, I would not pay that premium price for a polyester top. I agree with another comment that there needs to be full views of items before we can make an online purchase. This is just so basic! As merchants struggle to remain open, they need to know that all these simple details matter.
    Love your blogs Jennifer!!

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 12:59 pm

I agree the brands need to give us more in-depth details so we know exactly what we are ordering.

  47. Deborah
    June 10, 2020 / 4:54 am

I love the pants and the hem on the pants. I like the style of the top,the buttons, the length etc,but not the plaid. I just don’t do plaid tops. My shoulders are wide and I just don’t like it on me. The colors are fun though!

  48. Mary
    June 10, 2020 / 4:53 am

I am not a fan of bright colors. I would like this plaid in all shades of blue or green on white. The side buttons have to go. They are big and distracting. Happy Wednesday.

  49. Leslie
    June 10, 2020 / 4:49 am

I love this whole outfit from head to toe! I would definitely wear it. Everything about it makes me happy. I love the bright colours in the top and the white pants are really cute and crisp looking. The sandals are cute too.

  50. Paulette Levy
    June 10, 2020 / 4:48 am

I love this outfit and yes, would wear it just as it is. I like the freshness and vibrancy of color with the crisp white pant. As someone else has suggested, this outfit would look good on many body types. Nice!

  51. wendy
    June 10, 2020 / 4:39 am

Very Fresh. I like the detail on the bottom of the pants so they aren’t ordinary. I would wear this. I think it would look nice on a lot of different body types.

  52. Lori H
    June 10, 2020 / 4:39 am

Very cute! I usually cannot handle sleeves in the summertime, but maybe if I will be inside.

  53. Melissa
    June 10, 2020 / 4:36 am

The bright colors in this top are cheerful. If I saw this on someone while I was out and about, I would think “She looks happy today.” But I would not buy it for myself because I just don’t think I would wear it given the colors. I am not sure how it would look with darker jeans and there are plenty of tops to wear with white pants that I like better. Like the scalloped detail on the hem of the pants.

  54. Yvonne
    June 10, 2020 / 4:27 am

What a fresh summery outfit. I would definitely wear this as it fits my lifestyle and taste. I would play up the colours in the shirt with turquoise earrings and bracelet one day and magenta another.

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 12:57 pm

      That would be fun

  55. Ann M
    June 10, 2020 / 4:24 am

I would definitely wear this look. The bright plaid is cheerful and a V neckline is flattering. The side buttons are a nice touch except in my dream world I’d like them to be a little smaller as they’d call attention to my hips (pear-shaped, sob). I just wish it got better reviews. The white pants look cool and comfortable. Love the sandals.

  56. Sharon
    June 10, 2020 / 4:22 am

I agree with Linda. I read the comment and would steer clear. If it was as pictured then it would be yes. I’d also have to agree with the commenter on the SS website, their merchandise has changed and I’ve probably returned more than I’ve kept lately , moving elsewhere.

    • Jennifer
      June 10, 2020 / 12:57 pm

I seldom give much credence to one solitary review. If there were several, then it seems to have more merit. Who knows what sort of bad mood that person was in.

  57. Leslie
    June 10, 2020 / 4:19 am

This top is so vibrant and pretty. I would definitely wear this and feel happy doing so. The only change I would make would be white skinny jeans that show a little more ankle. I would pop the collar and wear some gold hoops and gold bracelets. Very summery and fresh. Love it!!

  58. Linda
    June 10, 2020 / 4:15 am

I like the blouse but went to the SS site and it has a one star review. Not well made, not cotton as described, not color shown, and it is very expensive – $89 ….. so, no, I would not wear it.

  59. ss
    June 10, 2020 / 4:13 am

I like it but would like to see the backside and see it looks when the model stands up. I guess I am spoiled by those online vendors who go to lengths to show you all possible views of an item.

    • Lezlie Davis
      June 10, 2020 / 4:20 am

I love this top! I am drawn to bright contrasting colors and plaids. I have several pairs of similar white pants and my favorite sandals look remarkably like the ones in the picture. This outfit is a home run for me!
