Midweek Would You Wear It

Midweek Would You Wear It

Happy Wednesday ladies. I hate to talk about the weather but sheesh, ours is out of control. On Monday we had walnut-sized hail, hours of rumbling thunder with heavy black clouds, and torrential downpours. Yesterday was breezy and sunny with gorgeous blue skies and lots of white puffy clouds. The weather a week from today is predicted to be 98! I’m still getting used to the blistering summers here and my wardrobe is not ready!

Luckily the Memorial Day Sales start very soon and I will be taking full advantage of them.

Everyone seems to love the midweek would you wear it popups my friend Pam and I are doing so we have another one for you today. We share an outfit and ask our readers to tell us whether they would wear it or not. I still can’t get into the stores for a mannequin so my outfit today is from a website.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this dress and why or why not. Please keep your comments personal to you and give specific ideas.

How would you style it to work for your shape and lifestyle?

There’s a whole crop of soft chambray dresses these days because it’s a super comfy fabric for warm summer days.

Now let’s go to Over 50 Feeling 40 and see the outfit Pam is sharing.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident!

Yes, I would wear – in a lighter fabric. The style seems flattering with the A-line and open sleeves. But I live in Florida and so this in a very light chambray would drape beautifully, and hopefully feel cool!

    Great dress!
After a long winter and Northeastern “ spring” in jeans, jeans, jeans, i am more likely to look for a patterned fabric. But — love the dress!

I love the dress but not sure I like the sleeves!
I always love a denim dress…great for travel!

One of my pet peeves is trying to determine if I would like a dress when the model is sitting down or anything other than standing straight to show the full on dress. I think I would love this dress but the picture shows nothing of how this dress would really look in a basic standing pose. Is it straight? A-line? Full enough at the hips? How does the fabric drape?

    • Jennifer
      May 21, 2020 / 2:23 pm

I agree I wish they would show the model standing up.

Love it .makes wearing a dress casual .

    May 21, 2020 / 1:02 am

Yes I would definitely wear this. I love the sleeve length and what I can see of the sides. I have a sleeveless chambray dress that I bought from Talbots last year and this would be a great addition.

I have a similar dress and it is a staple in my wardrobe and great for summer vacations. My dress is a collarless style with a button front and is sleeveless and is an A-line style and has pockets! I often pair it with a cardigan or scarf or shawl to ward off overcooled air-conditioned spaces. I wear with sneakers or flat sandals or block-heel sandals or slides. I like this dress but not the sleeves as they seem too fussy and would be too much in a Vegas summer.

Would I wear it? Yes! with alterations. Sleeves probably shortened so “bell-notch” above elbow; probably tapered slightly, too. Big chunky rivet buttons changed for pearl snaps or studs. Prefer a more delicate touch to my “cowgirl chic”. Tencel is such a comfortable, easy to wear fabric; would enjoy this dress.

Keeping with the Cowgirl Chic Muse (I’m in SWLA & it wouldn’t look costumey), I’d pair it with a pair of nude tooled leather, almond-toe, low block heel/flats. Add a bit of whimsy with yellow fringe earrings & silver/citrine pave cocktail ring. Definitely carry an equestrian-theme neckerchief. (Why not look cute if a mask is suddenly needed.) And! linen hat & gloves. Muse is musing handbag options…

I don’t wear dresses much these days, but this one could change my mind. It looks very easy & relaxed, & the length might be just right for me. I could see it with sneakers or maybe a cute red ballet flat.

I love this dress, and I think it would suit a lot of different body shapes. I wouldn’t wear it though. As I have got older I have developed a thing about sleeves, nowadays I like short sleeves that finish before the elbow or long sleeves. Any other sleeve lengths just irritate me.

    May 20, 2020 / 2:53 pm

I feel like the last few you’ve shared are REAL outfits, not department store choices that no one would wear. I love this and would wear it in a heartbeat. Actually, I have one very similar. I hemmed it shorter and wear it with black leggings. So cute!

  12. Barbara Lembo
    May 20, 2020 / 2:44 pm

It is a very cute dress. I would love to wear it – our NC summers are hot where I live and dresses can be a good antidote. But, it’s length could be trouble. At 5’4″ I would likely need to shorten it. My seamstress could probably save the hem feature, but it would be extra $. Too bad they didn’t offer it in petite. My bet is it would need to come up at least 1-2′ for best results on my body. Tencil is so much thinner and more flowing than straight denim or even chambray. Good choice for this mid-week popup.

    May 20, 2020 / 2:40 pm

I’d absolutely wear this. In our climate(Oregon) I think it would go year round, depending on accessories. Plus the color is super, and flattering to any complexion.
It would be o.k. for a low key evening out, but maybe a little too casual for casual Friday in a business setting. In summer I see it with sandals and a statement necklace, in fall and winter, scarves and boots.
Tencel is a wonderful fabric- wears and drapes well. A little less stiff than denim can be, and a little more structure than lightweight chambray.
    Great choice!

I love the dress and the fabric. It’s a perfect style for me.

  15. Janet
    May 20, 2020 / 2:14 pm

Winner! Perfect material and shape for my pear shaped body, v-neck and sleeves. The only thing better would be being in Positano wearing it while drinking a glass if wine!

Please send warm weather my way to London, Ontario, Canada. A very slow start to spring and it is still very cool.

  16. Sharon Heritch
    May 20, 2020 / 1:35 pm

    Absolutely not.

As an H shape, an A-line dress like this would overwhelm my frame and make me look super frumpy, and fat as well. Also, a V-neckline looks terrible on me, due to wide shoulders and an oval face.

I also heartily dislike floppy sleeves, that droop into your work or your dinner plate. A hard pass.

  17. Mary
    May 20, 2020 / 1:07 pm

I would definitely wear this dress. It’s relaxed and the soft denim blue color would flatter almost everyone. I would likely accessorize this with a straw bag and sandals.

  18. Kay
    May 20, 2020 / 12:36 pm

Pretty dress. I am a big Tencel convert. It’s soft and it drapes. It mimics denim well.

  19. Dawn
    May 20, 2020 / 11:31 am

This dress is perfection! Love it. It would be perfect in AC this summer and in the fall with tights or leggings and boots. Here in casual Colorado it could go almost anywhere.

  20. Michele
    May 20, 2020 / 11:11 am

Yes, love this dress. It could be dressed up or down for different types of occasions. And it could be worn in cooler weather with tights, boots, and even a turtleneck.

  21. Cyndi

Absolutely!!! I love everything about it

  22. Elaine @ Following Augustine
    May 20, 2020 / 9:50 am

This dress is entirely different than anything I’ve worn before, but assuming that the fabric is as soft as it looks, I would love to try it. I would wear it as shown with either my new white sneakers or a pair of sandals. I’d probably add my simple anchor necklace from Amos Pewter in Nova Scotia.

    • Carolynn
      May 20, 2020 / 1:59 pm

Thank you for mentioning Amos Pewter—such loveliness! I wish I’d known about this place when we were in Halifax some years ago for my son’s convocation at Dalhousie. Since I also live in Canada, I’ll be happy to order online and not have the added exchange rate! 😊

This dress is definitely something I would wear and probably reach for again and again. Although, I’d need to try it on to know for sure if it’s flattering. Having more casual, comfortable dresses in my wardrobe is on my priority list when I get out shopping. Our retail stores reopened yesterday, with some restrictions.

  23. Deb
    May 20, 2020 / 9:43 am

Yes I would definitely wear this dress. I find dresses much cooler on hot summer days!

  24. Jayne
    May 20, 2020 / 9:41 am

Hi Jennifer, I LOVE this dress. I really like chambray anyway as it is so easy and comfortable. This dress looks like it would hide the “bumps” and I would wear it casually just as shown, or with a Boho necklace and espadrilles for a more “dressy” look.

  25. Terri
    May 20, 2020 / 9:39 am

Definitely. Love the classic look & V-neck! Looks comfortable & would be a great basic that can be dressed up for fun.

  26. Nancy Walden
    May 20, 2020 / 9:15 am

I love the dress! The A-line shape and v-neck are just what I look for in a dress. The sleeves are pretty and on cool mornings like today, the extra coverage would be good to have. The sleeves would also be good for an overly air-conditioned room. I have dangly earrings and a wrap bracelet that are perfect to wear with denim or chambray. I would wear this with sandals with a wedge heel. I’m to a fan of wearing sneakers with a dress!

  27. Penny
    May 20, 2020 / 9:14 am

I really like this dress, and love the fabric. I enjoy wearing dresses a lot in the summer months, as I find them comfortable, cool and slightly more flattering than shorts depending on the situation. I would definitely wear this dress, as long as it is not too short. The dress would have to fall slightly above, at, or just below my knees. I’m not tall, at five feet, five inches tall, and I find it hard to find a nice casual knee length summer dress that falls at my knee level. I do have quite a few midi or maxi type dresses which I enjoy wearing, but for variety I also enjoy wearing knee length dresses as well. Unfortunately, I find it hard to find many casual dresses that are long enough for me to wear.

    May 20, 2020 / 8:58 am

I really like this dress, happy to see this fabric back in style. It reminds me of a darker denim dress that I had late college days and first teaching job. Too funny, it could be worn as a dress or coat! Wowzie, I am aging myself. It buttoned down the front. I prayed for you, grateful all is well. Thanks for your terrific blog. I have had a bob hair style forever, is your hair layered? Very cute!

  29. Linda
    May 20, 2020 / 8:53 am

Perfect! If I wore dresses would definitely wear this one.

  30. Elizabeth Day
    May 20, 2020 / 8:38 am

Yes, if it is a soft chambray, I would wear it around the house. I don’t wear dresses anymore because I don’t wear hose anymore and don’t show off my bare legs outside the house anymore.

  31. Francesca B.
    May 20, 2020 / 8:33 am

I would definitely wear it! Love the v neck and the buttons up the side. Not quite sure about the sleeves so I would like another picture to compare, to see how they look when the model is standing up.But yes this would be a winner for me. I would play around with boho leather belts and long necklaces, a suede bag maybe…bronze sandals….possibilities endless!
Thanks for the fun post Jennifer keep smiling 🙂

    May 20, 2020 / 8:22 am

    Oh yes!
    Classic & comfortable.

  33. Cheryl
    May 20, 2020 / 8:11 am

Absolutely would wear it! Love the flattering a-line shape of the dress with v neck. Sleeves would limit wearing a sweater or jacket but would be perfect with a wrap on a cool evening. Could wear this dress during the day around the house and step outside on the patio for al fresco dining!

  34. Diane
    May 20, 2020 / 7:45 am

Yes, and would have the sleeves taken up to look straight. Love denim dresses!

  35. Sheryl
    May 20, 2020 / 7:29 am

Yes, I would wear this dress. I agree that the sleeves might be too bulky underneath a covering for cool nights. Looks like a good go-to dress for daytime.

  36. Pam Over 50 Feeling 40
    May 20, 2020 / 7:28 am

I agree with Susan…so cute with white sneakers. But I would need to try it on and see what my legs think of it. Great dress though.

  37. Griselle
    May 20, 2020 / 6:57 am

    Yes, I would.

  38. Katrina
    May 20, 2020 / 6:49 am

Big YES!! I love anything Tencel. Like jeans, with sandals in summer & with boots or leggings in winter. I’ve been watching this one on their site, waiting for the price to drop. This would be a “go to” for me. Like jeans – dress it up or down. Makes me happy!!

  39. Susan
    May 20, 2020 / 6:41 am

Love the look of this dress very much. Only concern is if I wanted to add jacket or cardigan over it, if the bell sleeves would get in the way and bunch up.

  40. Eileen
    May 20, 2020 / 6:37 am

Because I’m pear shaped, with narrow shoulders, I wouldn’t wear this silhouette. I need a boat neck style, with more waist emphasis, I like the 3/4 sleeve. The fabric is very nice, but too thick for our summers here (100+). The color I like.

  41. Marian
    May 20, 2020 / 6:37 am

Lovely dress! The classic A line solid usually looks very good on me. I’d try it on and hope it looked good but sometimes they just hang like a sack. I like the buttons down the side.

I think they accessorized it perfectly with that glass of Chardonnay.

A very thin long light summer scarf, straw hat and or straw bag would be nice too. I have a cotton crepe white/yellow/purple scarf that would go well and a light blue/greys scarf. Like jeans, goes with any shoe but I’d probably choose something colorful to pop.

Earrings or a fun headband would be nice.

It would probably be my Fourth of July outfit with red and white accessories.

This could also work as a tunic with leggings for spring and fall here in Northern California.

  42. Monica Lee
    May 20, 2020 / 6:37 am

I actually went so far as to click on it to find more information, it’s that good! Versatile and flattering. Love the V neck and the details no the side of the skirt. (Maybe you should do more website models!)

  43. MP
    May 20, 2020 / 6:36 am

Yes, I would wear this cute dress. I wish the model was standing for a better look but from here, the dress is fine.

  44. Rose B
    May 20, 2020 / 6:30 am

Yes this dress looks very comfortable and versatile. Can be dressed up or down.

  45. Jacqueline
    May 20, 2020 / 6:09 am

Love the dress and would definitely wear it. It would be even better if I could wear it in Positano, one of my favorite places in the world to travel.

  46. - Vicki Mikola Dack
    May 20, 2020 / 6:01 am

Yes, like the V-Neck and the modified A-line style dress! Would also wear the majority of dresses shown either as a beach cover up, pool party, or even for a date with my hubby. With the right accessories it would be appropriate for many occassions.

  47. jmp
    May 20, 2020 / 5:58 am

Very cute dress! Are the sleeves belled near the cuff? That may drive me a little crazy. Other than that this would be a “go to”a dress. Tennies, sandals, or flats….all would go with this. I might add a scarf somehow to dress it up just a bit.

  48. Melissa
    May 20, 2020 / 5:56 am

Perfect! Not a sack but looks like it has a little room through the middle. Love the v neck. It can be styled for a dinner out with sandals and jewelry (maybe someday) or a trip to the grocery store with tennis shoes. Looks fairly lightweight but not see-through, which is always an issue with summer clothes. Good pick!

  49. Cheryl
    May 20, 2020 / 5:51 am

Yes! Perfect mix of casual and dressy. Great for a party.

  50. ss
    May 20, 2020 / 5:49 am

I love this. I have never even been in a soft surroundings store because I figure I don’t need more loose ill-fitting clothing. But this has great details from the sleeves to the neck to the buttons up the side. The only reason I am hesitant to order it is because there is only one pic of the model sitting down. I am surprised they haven’t figured out people like to see multiple pics, including the cut and the back of an item. As is frequent, I am taken in new directions by this blog.

  51. Linda
    May 20, 2020 / 5:46 am

I love the dress as long as the material is soft. The style is really cute.

  52. Cindy
    May 20, 2020 / 5:45 am

This dress looks very comfortable & I’m all about comfort! I’d like to see how fitted/loose the shape is to see if it would be a possibility for me.

  53. Linda GR
    May 20, 2020 / 5:43 am

    I like this dress!

  54. Linda
    May 20, 2020 / 5:41 am

Yes! I would have liked to see the model standing so that I could have seen how loose it is around the middle and the length. Even with 3/4 sleeves, it would work in the heat of a South Georgia summer because it is made of tensely.

  55. Barb
    May 20, 2020 / 5:38 am

I love the style of this dress and might try it on. However, I would be surprised if it fit me well since it doesn’t come in petites. I have narrow shoulders and short arms, and regular misses sizes usually look sloppy in the shoulders.

  56. Debbie Bell
    May 20, 2020 / 5:35 am

Absolutely! Easy shape and substantial enough fabric to hide wobbly bits.
    Love it!

  57. Jan L Franke
    May 20, 2020 / 5:33 am

Yes I love this dress too! Great “go to” dress!”

  58. Karen Needler
    May 20, 2020 / 5:22 am

Yes! this may be one of your best picks judging from all of the positive comments. So many ways to accessorize!

  59. Virginia
    May 20, 2020 / 5:21 am

Looks like a great dress though fabric is too heavy for hot summer. I have to be careful with faded anything because it can wash me out with my silver hair!

  60. Martha
    May 20, 2020 / 5:21 am

This is a definite yes! I love denim. I love the unstructured shape. I love the sleeves and detail on the side. Little details like this make it stand out from every other denim dress. It looks comfortable too!

  61. Rose
    May 20, 2020 / 5:13 am

definitely! I had the same idea as Donna – light sandals or flip flops in summer, with pretty necklace. Boots, tight, turtleneck in winter.

  62. Jan
    May 20, 2020 / 5:09 am

This dress checks a lot of my comfort/confidence desired boxes. First, the fabric has some weight to it but also drapes very nicely. The fit is designed to skim the body and according to review, does not wrinkle. All great for wearing in the summer months. The shape of the dress is perfect for me. I love the v neck and 3/4 sleeves. The length appears to be good also. I would add either a coral or white long necklace and a neutral sandal.
Finally, a dress that I can see in my closet. Also need to say that it is affordable and would be a go to option for several years!
    Another great post Jennifer!

  63. Wendy
    May 20, 2020 / 5:08 am

Yes! I can see myself wearing this a lot! Dresses are my go to for hot summer days & this looks so soft & comfortable. I can see this with both sandals & runners. Plus a pop of jewelry & sunglasses & you’re ready for anything.

  64. Donna
    May 20, 2020 / 5:02 am

Yes, I would wear this dress! Flip flops or light runners in the summer dressed down. wedge espadrilles to dress it up. Tights and boots with a turtleneck under it for winter.

The slight a-line of the dress is flattering on most and I love a good v-neck. Not sure that I like the button detail at the side hem, but I think I could live with it as there are so much I like about the dress.

  65. Diane
    May 20, 2020 / 5:02 am

yes I would definitely wear this. It’s got a youthful vibe without being to revealing. I think this could be worn as is or dressed up with the right accessories.

  66. sheryl beil
    May 20, 2020 / 4:59 am

this is really pretty, it would make me stop and consider and maybe try on in a store.
if i were still working, it would easily go into the office with some thin strap sandals with a touch of heel, maybe even a wedge, depending on situation. for me, it wouldnt work with tennis or walking shoes, my feet would be all you would see….but outside of an office, i think some dressy flip flops would work. i believe the cut of this would be flattering on a lot of us,

  67. beth byrd
    May 20, 2020 / 4:56 am

Yes, I would definitely wear this dress.

I looks so comfortable and has a stylish look. I imagine it would get a lot of wear!

I would definitely wear it. Tencil is a great fabric for easy and wear. I like the sleeves.

  70. Paulette Levy
    May 20, 2020 / 4:44 am

Yes yes yes! This dress is another Hit! I love the neckline, the sleeves and with some big hoop earrings, dangling bracelets, a real springtime go to dress.

  71. Teresa Landers
    May 20, 2020 / 4:44 am

Looks like a great dress. Gets very good reviews on the site. Ordered, but so popular it is not expected to be available until 30 July. Long wait…

    May 20, 2020 / 4:34 am

I would wear this! Easy to wear with flips or a cute sneaker. Love the sleeves!

  73. Carol Rodhouse
    May 20, 2020 / 4:32 am

Absolutely…………perfect neckline, sleeves to cover upper arms, good color and practical for errands, home, whatever informal occasion arises………..white Keds or flip flops…..comfot personified.

  74. Nyla
    May 20, 2020 / 4:29 am

I would love this dress! Would wear with white Sperry’s, flipflops this summer and leggings, scarf, and boots in the fall.

  75. Wendy
    May 20, 2020 / 4:25 am

The side button detail is adorable.

  76. Shari
    May 20, 2020 / 4:23 am

Yes, love it! Could even go lots of places! I’m a retired teacher and had a wardrobe of denim….just now starting to add some back!
    Cute selves on this!

  77. Linda
    May 20, 2020 / 4:21 am

You bet I would wear this dress. I love the detail and everything about it including the buttons on the side Ana’s the detail on the neck.

  78. Pam
    May 20, 2020 / 4:13 am

Absolutely! I would add a scarf with a stripe of different blues and greens or jewlry….probably Tagua jewelry in red or bright yellow! AND add fun wedges or maybe sandals!

  79. Susan
    May 20, 2020 / 4:12 am

Yes, I would wear the dress. It would be perfect (styled with white sneakers) for walking to the shops, meeting a friend for coffee – it looks very comfortable.
I like the V neck which suits my body shape and the colour isn’t too wishy washy. The only thing I might change would be the sleeves – 3/4 length can be a bit hot and heavy once the warmth of the sun kicks in.
