Monday Musings and Outfit of the Week

Happy Monday, ladies. We celebrated three October birthdays over the weekend, so it was a very busy time. We also had a few cooler days, which makes me so excited about finally wearing my fall clothes!

they are predicting him to be 6’5″, which I realized will not feel too different than this

My daughter and sister-in-law were visiting, and we had a fantastic time. We took my grandson to a pumpkin patch, carved pumpkins, painted crafts, and baked a whole bunch of spooky treats. My grandson is at such a sweet age and still enjoys playing with us and all of the Halloween festivities. One of my favorite moments this weekend was my daughter and grandson trying on Halloween costumes in Target and dancing up and down the aisles. It was hilarious and so fun.

I’ve put some pumpkins up on my mantel and eaten more Halloween cookies than I’d care to admit. My daughter and I spent Friday night on a skincare deep dive with all of the new goodies she purchased…more on that later. We spent Sunday night at my son’s new home for a BBQ… all in all, a family and fun-filled birthday weekend.

LOOK OF THE WEEK

Right after I decided I would pass on the retro-sneaker trend this fall, I found a few pairs I like. This week’s outfit of the week started with a neutral pair. I added a soft flannel shirt, straight-leg jeans, a long quilted vest, and a comfy crossbody bag.

QUILTED VEST / FLANNEL SHIRT /Ā  STRAIGHT LEG JEANS / RETRO SUEDE TRAINERS / CROSSBODY BAG / GLOVES / CITRINE EARRINGS / LIPSTICK IN INTUITION

These gloves are touch-screen friendly, so you can use your phone without having to take them off. I bought this lipstick last week and am loving it! I was feeling tired of pink, and this deep mauve is a nice alternative for fall. The jeans are high-rise and have straight legs, which are my jean of choice these days. I like how the flannel blends the colors of the denim and the vest.

BRA FITTING

When was the last time you had a professional bra fitting? My daughter and I snuck into Nordstroms this weekend for a quick shopping trip, and both went in for a fitting with a certified specialist. We were both shocked by the results! I could have sworn I was wearing the right size, but obviously, things have changed.

If you haven’t had a bra fitting in a few years (or ever), chances are good you’re not wearing the right size. Many of us go for comfort and, as a result, are wearing bands that are too large for us and a cup that might be too small. With our new sizes proposed, we hit the store on Sunday to try on some new bras, and I came home with this one by Natori.

Our temps are supposed to hit the high 80s again this week, but then hopefully, it will cool off for the season. I’m really tired of the hot weather and excited to see all my hot weather clothes in the rearview mirror.

Has it cooled off where you are?

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

On my way to work this morning- 36 degrees in Chicago. šŸ˜Ÿ

  2. I have always hated bra shopping, but this spring it just had to be done. After one fruitless and frustrating shopping trip, I went for a bra sizing. What a difference that made! I quickly found two styles that fit well and were oh so comfortable, so I bought several. What a difference they have made in how my clothes look!

    1. Yes, I found that too.

  3. What is a “spacer bra” vs any other kind of bra? I envy those of you with cooler temps. Here in Florida, I am grateful that the weather was only 89 degrees F today.

    1. I understand that a spacer bra is a lightweight alternative to a padded bra.

  4. Ah! An outfit right out of New England. As a Vermonter who also has a second/part-time job at LLBean, I’m happy to see that you’ve featured this flannel shirt. They’ve just modified our uniform through Jan 1 – we can wear flannel shirts instead of the company issued Guide shirts! So naturally I added yet another to my collection – this time I got a men’s fit because I’ll wear it with leggings or skinny jeans, and they have more plaid choices that I like! We’re selling and wearing lots of vests and Hoka sneakers and LL Bean and Blundstone boots, too. Like your outfit, I spruce up the look with fun earrings. Lots of apple picking going on up here right now!

  5. We’re finally getting some Fall weather this week, yay! Love the outfit pieces you found above but I’m afraid they’re out of my price range, stopped adding when I got to $810.! I’ll use your choices for inspiration since they’re so pretty.

  6. Jennifer… Are the bra cups molded, or just fabric? I need some molding for shaping.

    1. They’re lightly molded. I need that too.

  7. Terri in Ohio says:

Love your family pixā€¦thx for sharing!

  8. Here in central Illinois, we are 20 degrees BELOW average. Dragging my winter things out but not putting the summer/fall stuff away yet.

  9. Looks like you had a fabulous family weekend. We are full into fall here with the leaves in full colour and falling fast. I don’t know why, but I enjoy raking leaves – maybe it has to do with the smell. The only downside is possible frost and flurries this week!

    1. I used to love raking leaves and the crunchy sound they make. I adore frost!! California weather gets pretty monotonous.

  10. The last time I had a bra fitting I went down 2 sizes in the band and up 3 sizes in the cup. Boy, was I way offā€”but like you, I had gone with what I thought was right instead of getting a professional measurement.

    1. Thatā€™s what happened to me. Down a band size and up 2 cups sizes. What a difference in how I look in tops!

  11. You are fortunate in your family. It sounds like a perfect weekend. The OOTW is perfect for New England this fall as it’s been on the warmer side where a coat is not needed but a vest is welcome. As Paulette mentioned, we’ve had / are having some rain. But yesterday was exquisite: my husband and daughter worked on projects; the dog and I did nothing.

    1. Your Sunday sounds perfect! I love days when I do nothing šŸ™‚

  12. Love your post today on all your family activities!! As for Natori, I have been wearing that brand for years. The bras are so comfortable. I prefer the ones with a wider strap. I also buy mine when on sale from Nordstrom Rack online. A girl has to watch her pennies when retired!

  13. Sounds like a great birthday weekend. I love the outfit of the week. Really like the earrings, so different. It has been an exceptionally warm fall here in WA state. It’s been great golf weather but I think it’s coming to and end this weekend.

  14. Hi Jennifer! Your weekend sounds like so much fun. We had a quiet one. Our weather is cool (rainy today) and hovering around mid 60s during daytime and higher 40s at night. It will be warming up this weekend to 70s.
Iā€™m wearing jeans, leggings and longer sleeve tees and sweaters but nothing overly heavy. Third pieces like vests or kimonos are working nicely. I dint see many women here trying ruanas or kimonos but I like them. So I wear them!
Enjoy your week! And yes, your grandson is adorableā€”tall too!

    1. I love the sound of your weather. Rain is cozy to me.

  15. What a delightful post. It looks like a good time was had by all !

  16. Your weekend with family sounds so perfect. I wish that I had a family member to play skin care and makeup with. You two do get along so well.
Your grandson is growing up so fast, and such a handsome young man, I can remember when they surpassed me in height, and were so silly about it.
Great idea to get a bra fitting, and perhaps that should be on my schedule since I lost weight and am just guessing size as to what feels the best. I really hated to get rid of the gorgeous ones that are too big.
I enjoy your Monday Musings posts, and well, all of them.

    1. I donā€™t see her often, and savor our time together. I know Iā€™m blessed and very grateful for family. Weight loss will make a big difference. I was so shocked to be wearing the wrong size, yet again!

  17. Jennifer, your grandson is adorable, and your daughter is beautiful! I enjoyed seeing photos of your family. Those pumpkin photos brought a smile to my face.

My children and grandchildren grew up too fast!

    1. They do grow up so fast! I canā€™t believe how old I am šŸ™‚

  18. What a fun family weekend you had. The autumnal approach to the holidays is such a beautiful and exciting time. Especially to have a wardrobe fitting the season.
We live in perpetual summer without other seasons so our wardrobe is the same 365 days a year. Its a rare day when we can wear long sleeves or a light jacket. Itā€™s fun to see your cool weather choices & dream about them.
I really love everything about the jeans outfit and wouldnā€™t change a thing. .
Iā€™m old enough to remember the trainers and glad to see their rebirth. Very comfortable shoes.

I wish I could switch my make at least to a more fallish palette but as a blonde Spring, Iā€™m at a loss. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thank you for the lovely post.

    1. Some cinnamon colors would give you that fall feeling. Perhaps paired with coral on top?
