Monday Musings: What I Really Wore Last Week

Happy Monday, ladies. Our weekend was packed with activities, and the season has just begun. This Monday, I’ve decided to get a bit more personal. I style lots of outfits for you on the blog that are not my style, so today, I thought I’d share my week with you and what I really wore.

It may seem hard to believe, but I don’t buy a lot of new clothes, so the outfits I wear will include many items that have sold out, but I’ll do my best to find similar items.

FAUX FUR VEST size S / SIMILAR CASHMERE SWEATER / STRAIGHT BLACK JEANS size 29 / LOW HEEL BOOTIES / SIMILAR NECKLACE HERE AND HERE

Our temps dipped on Monday, so I layered my faux fur vest over a cashmere sweater with jeans and booties. I basically ran errands all day, then we grabbed dinner out where we could watch the world series. I’m not a huge sports fan (unless my grandson is playing), but I do like playoffs in most sports. My cashmere sweater is as old as the hills from Everlane. Here’s one in a similar taupe color (and 12 other colors) that’s currently marked way down.

My vest is from last year, but I assume it was a best-seller because Chico’s has brought it back this year. I love how luxe it feels. My booties are also from last year and are back in stock too. Their low, block heel is easy on my feet, and I like how the browns bookend this outfit. These Mother high-waist black jeans have straight legs and are super comfy with lots of stretch. I picked up this necklace in a small boutique in Port Townsend many years ago, and wearing it reminds me of the fun trip we were on. I need to find a better way to display necklaces because I keep forgetting what I have! Statement necklaces may be “out,” but that won’t stop me from enjoying mine.

FAUX LEATHER PANTS size 6 regular / RETRO SNEAKERS / SIMILAR SWEATER / SCARF old SIMILAR HERE / DEAN DAVIDSON EARRINGS C/O 25% OFF WITH JENNIFER25 AT CHECKOUT

Tuesday was even cooler, and I spent a very long day in the dentist’s chair. I have several crowns that need replacing, and this was just the first of many. Remember when I said I wasn’t going to be wearing the retro sneaker trend this fall? Ha! I found a comfy pair and am really enjoying them. My cashmere sweater is from an outlet mall last year, similar color here, and the faux leather pants are new. These have a straight leg and are full length with a 28″ inseam. My scarf is a very lightweight, tissue wool and cashmere blend. I have several of these which I find endlessly useful all fall and winter.

SIMILAR DENIM JACKET / CASHMERE CREWNECK SWEATER size M / SIMILAR PANTS / SIMILAR SHOES / FRESHWATER PEARL LARIAT NECKLACE c/o

Thursday, I wore another cashmere sweater (seeing a pattern here?), wide-leg knit pants, and a denim jacket. I bought these pants in petite last year, (same fabric, narrower leg) and they are on the very cusp of being too short, but I love them anyway because at least they’re not cropped. I am ready for pants to go full length again because they keep my ankles warm and help make my legs look longer. My shoes are ancient and super comfy, similar here.

The denim jacket is an all time fav that is sold out but there are lots available that look the same. I wore two Freshwater Pearl Baroque Lariat Necklaces, I layered. I love how versatile lariats are because you can wrap them in multiple ways. One of these is gray pearls, and one is white. You’ll be seeing me wear these a lot in the upcoming season.

SIMILAR HAT / ECOVERO TURTLENECK / SIMILAR BOOTCUT JEANS / KNIT BOOTIES / RECTANGLE BUCKLE BELT / LIPSTICK in CONFIDENCE / SIMILAR VEST C/O ARTFUL HOME / LANI FRESHWATER PEARL EARRINGS C/0

Friday was coffee and shopping with a friend. She warned me it was going to be cold to sit outside at Pete’s to people-watch and chat, so I grabbed my fedora, fingerless cashmere gloves, and my prized Meiko Metz vest. This vest is a handmade beauty I was sent to share with my readers when I worked for Artful Home. Similar here. I could not love this vest more, so I wear it sparingly, which, as I think about it, is the exact opposite of what I should do!

SINCE MY OUTFIT HAD A LOT GOING ON, I JUST ADDED THESE BAROQUE PEARL DROP EARRINGS. THEIR CHUNKY SIZE AND MODERN STYLING ARE RIGHT UP MY ALLEY.

DENIM SHIRT SIMILAR HERE / QUILTED VEST OTHER COLORS HERE / BARELY BOOTCUT JEANS / LEATHER BELT / RETRO SNEAKERS / JENNIFER PEARLS

Saturday was drizzly and cool. We spent most of the day at home then went to friends’ house for dinner and to watch the baseball game. I wore double denim, retro sneakers, a thin puffer vest and my Jennifer pearl necklace. Here’s the story of my my Jennifer necklace. Pearls and denim are always right in my book, especially modern ones.

I’ve had the burgundy bucket bag for many years and love it’s unique shape. I can’t find one with the weaving but this one is a similar shape and color. These barely boot jeans are one of my favorite shapes from Talbots. I now have them in mid wash blue and black. My vest is from last year, this year the colors are here.

I wanted to remind you that you can save 15% off everything at the Freshwater Pearl Company website with the code AWSL at checkout. He’s also running a special buy two, get the third for 50% off. You can’t combine these discounts but either is a great way to get some goodies for the holidays to give or wear yourself.

So, here’s what I really wore last week. Do you prefer to see me styling new clothes or did you find this interesting?

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. Jennifer, seeing you rock your own style is MUCH more inspiring!!! Please, more posts like this one!

  2. I enjoy seeing what you really wear. But I also enjoy seeing you in stores where I shop. Could you be more specific about what you purchase in the stores and how you put them in your wardrobe? Iā€™m glad to see you put effort into dressing and add accessories. Sometimes it seems everywhere I go itā€™s so casual or even inappropriate.

    1. Do you mean you want me to share what Iā€™ve bought to add to my wardrobe? If so, I can certainly do that.

  3. Janice in Ky says:

I really enjoy both. I like that I can usually find something in my wardrobe to duplicate the outfit in my style and colors. The try on post let me know what is out there and current. This way I can decide if I need or want to add something to update my look. Thank you for all you do. The outfit with the hat and vest is my favorite.

  4. Vicki Sigler says:

    Great outfitsā¤ļø

  5. Jennifer- I agree with the other comments. I am drawn more to the posts such as this, because it provides ideas as to what I would consider wearing (style and color palate) and expand my knowledge my knowledge on places to shop such as artful home. One post I would really appreciate would be some ideas of what to wear during the holidays that is festive dress- somewhere between casual and traditional cocktail wear. Enjoy your week!

    1. Iā€™ve got a few of those coming up on the blog.

  6. Christi L Conard says:

I love to see your style! Thanks for sharing and please keep showing us.

  7. I love that vest and the way you put the whole outfit together. You look fabulous! You’ve introduced me to Artful Home as well. What a great site!

  8. I am on board with others who like seeing what you really wore.

  9. Jennifer I just want to say, that I think that your photo with the (Artful Home) vest and hat is the ‘best’ look on you so far and I’ve been a reader for a long time. You look spectacular in that outfit!

    1. Thank you so much, Debbie. I love it too.

  10. I love seeing both. Your week of outfits helps me think more about my clothes and what to put together (scarves, denim jacket, jewelry, etc). Styling new clothes is helpful, too, but makes me think more about the retailer and what is offered. Since I donā€™t like to shop, seeing what you wear helps me decide whether that store is worth a visit.

  11. Loved that post! I too tend to ā€œsave my favesā€ so they look fresh when I go someplace special. I really would LOVE to see more vests. Especially thin ones I can wear all day indoors. They are so versatile but I have trouble finding them. Thanks.

    1. Iā€™m on a hunt for those too. Vests are such great styling pieces.

  12. I enjoy both but really like seeing your own clothes and reading where you wear them. I clicked on the link for Talbots barely bootcut jeans and it was for the curvy ones. Are yours the curvy ones? Thanks!

    1. Oh no, mine are straight šŸ¤£ I have straight hips with zero curves.

  13. Cheryll Sampson says:

I prefer what you really wore. It is much more realistic. I like your teal style, and if I want to copy, I can do so if itā€™s right for me. Being real is much more important than showing what you would not wear.

    1. Iā€™m glad you like this. I do style other clothes because Iā€™m hoping to give women styling ideas who have different style than mine.

  14. Hi, Jennifer, I totally agree with the other comments.I LOVE seeing what you really wear and how you combine older pieces with new ones to create a fabulous outfit.

  15. Love, love love the vest! Your time with Artful Home introduced me to their website. I have done much shopping there now- both for unique clothes and household items such as coffee mugs, ornate mirrors and artwork.

    1. I love their artistic pieces. One of my favorite pins came from them too.

  16. I really prefer what you wear. You give me ideas, and they look great . If you wear something that does not look good on you, then it does not motivate or inspire me very much.
I go wow, she looks good, I want to wear that too. I have looked back on your styles from way back, and still get ideas on how to put things together.

  17. I love seeing both. I always get get good ideas for styling clothes I already own. I bought the longer Chicoā€™s denim jacket and wear it oftenā€¦got lots of compliments on it. You look great in all the outfits.

    1. I wear that denim jacket a lot! The shape is perfect over my longer sweaters plus it keeps my backside warmer šŸ˜

  18. I love seeing what you really wear! Great inspirational post.

  19. Love this post and ADORE that vest! I really like the one it links to also but itā€™s way out of my budget, šŸ˜”. I also really enjoy your other posts and have picked up items from the clothes you model. Thanks.

  20. I so enjoy your Monday Musings, and I like seeing what you actually wear, as your personal style inspires me. The Meiko Metz vest is amazing and you should definitely wear it more often. I have a fur vest that’s been in my closet for over 20 years and I haven’t worn it in years. Maybe today is the day.

    1. Amazing! Let me know how you wear it!

  21. I like both yours and others style
Whatever you style makes me look differently at clothes I own. So thank you!

    1. Iā€™m so happy to hear that. Itā€™s so easy for us to get stuck in style ruts with what we own.

  22. Enjoyed this post very much. All cute outfits, but, donā€™t think I can pair faux leather pants with sneakers.

    1. It’s all about personal style, Jan:) I’m glad you liked this post

  23. Jennifer, I LOVE your own style and thank you for sharing. It is much more interesting than seeing the new clothes styled. Which, donā€™t get me wrong, I love seeing in my inbox every morning. It gets me thinking about what to wear that day.
Is it too late to sign up for your Nordstrom gift card giveaway? If not, I would love to gift it to my daughter who could use a wardrobe refresh even though she works from home. I feel that dressing for the day, even with no plans to go anywhere, lifts my spirits. Thanks for being that inspiration!

  24. Terri in Ohio says:

So fun to see your real outfits! Love every one. Thank you for sharing.

  25. Jennifer-I like what you really wore! It is very stylish and it suits you and
it is what I would wear-maybe more upscaled but I really prefer what you really wear!
I always enjoy your blog & incorporate many of your clothes and ideas. Thank you for being you!

  26. This truly is one of my favorite posts! Your taste is impeccable, and while my body is the opposite of yours, I learn souch from you! Thanks!

  27. I love seeing you in “real” things that actually make you happy. Your regular posts are wonderful, but there is something to say for what you actually wear just for you.

  28. It was fun and interesting to see your week of outfits! Jean jackets and scarves are my fall staples also. I traveled to Europe earlier this year and did carry on luggage only. My scarves kept me from looking the same every day!

    1. Thatā€™s one of my favorite things about scarves.

  29. Your style rocks! You should post it more often. Many things I loved in what you wore last week.

  30. Good morning Jennifer

Thank-you for sharing what you actually wore. I like it more than seeing things that aren’t in your wardrobe. You are an excellent stylist and this gives us a chance to see how you style clothing from your own wardrobe in ways that are flattering to your coloring and shape. Just by seeing your examples, we can learn. Dressing room diaries is also a great learning tool too. Both types of posts are very interesting. Thank- you for doing it.

    1. Iā€™m so glad you like these, Lisa
