Most Comfortable Spring Shoe Trends To Try

Shoes are a popular subject here on AWSL because so many of us have foot issues. Years of punishing our feet by wearing uncomfortable shoes have taken a toll, so we now demand comfort, but we also want to look stylish. Let’s look at the most comfortable spring shoe trends to try this spring.

It goes without saying that you should wear what you love, whether it’s trending or not. Painful feet will ruin your day, and they’re just not worth it. I do know that shoes are a fun way to update our look and make our outfits look modern, but they also have to be comfortable.

What Toe Shape is in Style for Spring 2024?

I’m still seeing lots of shoes with square toes, but the shapes are trending toward a round or pointed toe. The toe shape will not only change the vibe of a shoe, but it will also affect its comfort, depending on the shape of your foot. I have wide, rather square toes, so pointed shoes will always be a challenge for me.

Mary Jane Shoes

MARY JANE FLAT / SLIM SILK BLOUSE / STRAIGHT JEANS / KNOTTED BELT

The Mary Jane trend continues to be popular for spring 2024, with single, double, and even triple straps. I think I was eight the last time I wore a pair, so I decided to try out this trend with an affordable pair that happens to be very comfy.

I find the best way to wear this trend is to have the rest of your outfit devoid of any “sweetness”. If you wear Mary Jane shoes with a floral dress, it could be a challenge to pull off without feeling silly.

Micro or Kitten Heels

KITTEN HEELS / TRENCH COAT / TROUSERS / BLOUSE / SHOULDER BAG / FLOWER EARRINGS

I’m thrilled to see micro and kitten heels back in style. They offer a wearable and feminine alternative to the pumps and stilettos I used to be able to hobble around in. Micro heels are very similar to kitten heels, but they can also be a bit smaller.

These are a great option when you need a dressier shoe, and also elevate a casual jean outfit. I especially like the slingback pumps with a kitten heel. Since high heels are on the back burner for me, if I need a heel to wear with a skirt or dress, a block or kitten heel is about all I can handle.

Platform Shoes

PLATFORMS / BLOUSE / EARRINGS / JEANS / TOTE BAG / SUNGLASSES

Platform shoes come in and out of popularity and have been pretty popular for the last few seasons. For spring 2024, the platform trend seems to be a little lower and steadier. No more worrying about trying to balance on sky-high platform sandals anymore, which is very good news to me!

Flatforms are also very popular which have a lower heel in comparison to the front of the shoe, so you feel like you’re wearing flat shoes but get the boost in height.

White Shoes

WHITE SNEAKERS / SLIM JEANS / FLEECE HOODIE / QUILTED JACKET / CROSSBODY BAG / KNOT EARRINGS

You can never go wrong with a classic white sneaker. This spring, we’re seeing more plain white sneakers with less embellishing and a lower profile. Logo sneakers are still everywhere, but so is the quiet luxury trend which these simple, unadorned white sneakers are perfect for. Flats, loafers, and sandals are also showing up in white which feel fresh and new for spring.

Metallic Shoes

VIONIC UPTOWN LOAFER / PURPLE SWEATER TEE / STRAIGHT-LEG JEANS / LANDS END COTTON JACKET / KATE SPADE NAVY CROSSBODY BAG / ROUNDED CHAINLINK EARRINGS

The entire metallic trend is still going strong this season, and you’ll see even more of it in shoes for spring. I’ve always been a fan of using metallic shoes as a neutral because they make a statement and go with everything. Silver continues to be the front-runner, which is a refreshing change for our cool-toned readers.

This outfit features a super comfy Vionic loafer in silver leather, with classic straight-leg jeans, a lilac sweater tee, a navy cotton jacket, bold silver earrings, and a heavily discounted Kate Spade bag in navy with a silver-toned chain. Metallics are also popping up in colors, as well as gold and silver.

Patent Leather Shoes

PUMA PATENT SNEAKERS / AG HIGH WAIST JEANS / VIA SPIGA TRENCH / ALL SAINTS STRAW TOTE / JENNY BIRD HOOPS

I’m seeing lots of glossy patent leather shoes for spring. Shiny shoes look great with dressy outfits, but I also love the juxtaposition with more casual outfits like jeans and a simple top. Wearing a pair of patent leather shoes is an easy way to elevate your outfit, and you’ll find plenty of options, from spring boots to sneakers, mules, and sandals.

Loafers

LOAFER / TRENCH COAT / JEANS / BLOUSE / EARRINGS / MZ WALLACE CROSSBODY BAG

It should come as no surpise that loafers are still going strong this spring. You’ll see a more polished and sleek-looking loafer with a more aggressive tread as well as lots of pretty colors in delicate shaped options. Think preppy, school-style loafers with fun details like buckles or ties or totally classic with a twist of color. Loafers offer comfort, stability, and versatility, so they’ll always be in style in varying shapes.

I’m thrilled to find modern looking, comfortable shoe trends that’ll keep us looking stylish and won’t break the bank.

What are shoes are you looking forward to trying this spring?

I enjoyed your blog today….I love shoes, expecially platforms for the added cushioning! You mentioned feeling a bit silly in Mary Janes and I agree. I wonder why no one ever shows or sells T-Strap shoes? They would be a bit more “older”, and also flattering with the vertical strap functioning to both lengthen your leg line and also narrow your foot. But they never appear anywhere!?

    1. I expect the T strap will come back soon!

  2. Great shoes! Last week I purchased some Mona Flying women’s oxfords in black and red. These are striking looking and amazingly comfortable. I bought them through Amazon. Many other color combinations are available.

  3. Really enjoyed this post…so many cute shoes and it really helps me to see the outfits that look good with them! Off topic, but could you do a post about styles of purses to wear with evening wear? Basically the kind of little bags that hold very little but the basics for a dressy event. Thank you for considering this!

    1. That’s a great idea!!

  4. Love this post, Jennifer! My favourite outfit is the black trrench/pink sweater/white jeans one — unfortunately the Puma patent leather sneakers are all out of stock. Sigh.

  5. I love platform shoes and just ordered the Dr. Scholls pair in black – although they are more expensive than listed here. It’s not warm enough for sandals yet but spring will are eventually. Thanks as always for your excellent advice.

    1. It will get here soon!

  6. Oh, I do love shoes! Great fashion and shoes today! Love the Skechers in neutral but not available in my size. My arthritic toes need a wide toe boot! I was able to get a pair with silver striped throughout and in my size. Chilly, rainy day here. Good for reading your blog and getting cheered up!

  7. I’m so happy you included Naot and Vionic shoes! Along with Birkenstock’s they are the only shoes I can wear🤩

  8. Hi Jennifer,
I have an issue that I don’t believe has been addressed on your blog. If it has, my apologies and please provide a link. My husband is recently deceased. We will be having a military service in spring in the south. He was a Colonel in the Air Force. I don’t want to wear black, but was thinking dark navy or another color. I would also need a hat. What might you suggest?

  9. Great post today! As much as love loafers my heels are so narrow most don’t fit. But metallic sneaks are on my radar. The purple sweater also caught my eye but the link provided is for earrings. Help!

  10. You really covered everything in your post today. I loved that you showed outfits to go with the shoes. I would wear all of these shoes and clothes!

    1. I’m glad you found it helpful.

I have a pair of metallic Gentle Souls flats. They are woven, textured leather and feature gold and silver. At least ten years old, but I love I can wear silver or gold jewelry with them. Every spring I wonder if I should donate them, but I’m keeping them if metallic is the trend.

    1. I have several old pairs of metllic shoes and think they’re a great investment.

  12. what a great post today! there was not a single item i wouldn’t wear. thanks for the inspo.

  13. Timely post. I need to update my shoe “wardrobe” and you’ve provided lots of options. Keep coming back to those Puma black, patent leather sneakers!

    1. They come in other colors too 😊
