New Beauty Products in My Skin Care Arsenal

Have you found your holy grail of skincare products? Ones you swear by and remain loyal to day after day, year after year? My mom was a Noxema lover and that was that. I don’t remember her ever washing her face with anything else. I’m not that way. I treat my skin very carefully but I’m always interested to try the newest, highly rated products.

My only holy grails are Vitamin A and C. Vitamin A is the gold standard for speeding up our stalled cell turnover so I use Retin A every other night. Vitamin C is highly touted for its antioxidant and sun protection so I use it on my neck, chest, and the backs of hands every morning.

Here’s what else I’m loving now.

TLC bay suki facial on A Well Styled Life

This is intense. It’s a 25% AHA blend which exfoliates and brightens like a salon peel. My fragile skin responds better to chemical exfoliation than manual now, so this is how I do a major slough off of dead skin cells, clear out my pores and remove all Retin-A flakes. It stings like crazy but leaves a smooth pink complexion that glows the next morning. This is by Drunk Elephant, a clean beauty line that is cruelty and additive free.

TVC Sukari babyfacial and Herbivore Blue Lapis oil on A well styled life

Blue Tansy oil is all the rage. This essential oil is also known as Tanacetum annuum or Moroccan Chamomile. It’s highly moisturizing, detoxifies, anti-fungal and reduces inflammation. I was recently diagnosed with Rosacea…a new delight at my age! I also have eczema so this soothing oil is a double whammy for me. It also helps with Psoriasis which I luckily don’t have – yet. I’m currently loving this Lapis Oil which has lots of blue tansy plus high concentrations of Squaline, which is highly emollient and an exceptional hydrator.

rose quartz roller and sheet mask on a well styled life

I found these rollers in a roundabout way. Sheet masks are popular here but they’re an obsession in Japan. My daughter and I saw so many, we had to stock up on the way home. Of course, this made me curious about Japanese skincare. My dive down the rabbit hole of Google turned up facial rollers and face massage. These rollers have been around for centuries in jade but they now make them in Rose Quartz, Amethyst, etc. Each stone has unique crystal qualities but I chose Rose because I liked the color 🙂 They’re great for lymphatic drainage – much like a full body massage – and helps reduce facial puffiness. Besides all that, they feel wonderful. It’s relaxing to roll the cool quartz over my face, either over a sheet mask or clean moisturized skin. I’m not expecting miracles but this small delight feels luxurious and is relaxing.

deram roller and tns recovery complex on a well styled life

I have very deep lines on my chin from years of sun damage. These aren’t wrinkles. They’re deep crevices from excessive photodamage. Nothing is softening them, not even 20 years of Retin A use so I’ve gone back to derma rolling… just on my chin, then applying this TNS Recovery Complex. My dermatologist swears this stuff is a miracle so I’ll let you know. I wrote a post about derma rolling here but gradually stopped using it. See above about sticking with things.

What new things are you trying?

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

  1. I have a very simple, but effective skin regime. I moisturize with raw organic virgin coconut oil every night. Not just my face, but entire body. Have been doing this for a decade now. My skin is hydrated, my eyebrows and eyelashes are fuller, my fine lines are all but gone and those dreaded labial folds have plumped up. Added bonus, age spots have lightened considerably and some have disappeared completely! I add baking soda to the oil once a week to exfoliate.
During the day I use Shea butter and if I have a special event I use Dr.Hauschka Rose Day Cream Light and the Daily Hydrating Eye Cream.

    1. Wow Bea, that’s a glowing testament! Simple is often better than all the fancy things we try.

I have been using Rodan & Fields skin care for 2 years and love it! I am a consultant & they have a Redefine AMP MD Derma Roller that is used with Renewing Serum for firmer looking skin. Their Redefine regimen is the #1 anti-aging skin care in North America.
I love your blog and follow it consistently as I do my skin care.

    1. Thanks for reading Jan. Rodan & Fields is a very popular line. I’ve heard great things about it.

  3. I love that Tansy oil too and Drunk Elephant has some winners in their line (I love the glycolic acid products.) Thank you for sharing, as always.

The one product that I’ve been faithful to for years is Yu-be Moisturizing Skin Cream. I use the product in the tube, not the lip balm. An nighttime application and my chapped lips are soft in the morning. It’s the only thing that works and I’d tried everything. It also works on my hands, especially if I get a rough area.

    1. Thanks for sharing Julie Anne. I’ve not heard of them…I’ll check them out. Chapped lips are a real problem this time of year.

  5. What do you use, if anything, after you use the Sukarno baby face?

    1. The full size bottle includes a sample of their Marula oil which was nice but when that ran out. I switched to my Rose seed hip oil which I top with my moisturizer, 30 minutes later. Now I’m using this Lapis oil because it calms everything down and makes my skin sooo soft, I love it.

  6. Sharon Satterfield says:

My favorites are ROC night cream, Amara Vitamin C serum and Lancôme Facial – pink for dry skin (morning).

    1. Do you use the Vitamin C in the morning? I’m hearing more and more of ladies applying it at night.

      1. Yes, I first got the idea from Pam and have used it for over two years.

  7. I only use Dr Denese products on my skin & I’m very happy with the results. I haven’t used derma rolling but I think I’ll give it a try. I really appreciate you sharing these products/techniques!

    1. Her product line seems very extensive. Which are you favorites?

      1. I love everything I’ve tried! On a daily basis, I use the Hydrating Cleanser, Hydroshield Moisturizer, Firming Facial Pads, Med MD Eye Emulsion and Dream Cream. She has a Black Clay Mask that leaves my skin feeling really smooth & clean.
I’ve been using the products for a couple of years and I think that you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

  8. Thanks for the info about the Tansy oil. I have recently developed eczema on my neck from using a very expensive line of hair products:( which I have garbaged:(
As well I now have a patch of psoriasis on my knee(!) I used to be able to use various hair/body products with no problem but lately my immune system is fighting back. My favourite skin care products that are very effective: Skin Biology created by a chemist in California. It’s based on copper peptides and is truly miraculous. The other is from British Columbia and created by a Canadian dermatologist: Riversol. For sensitive skin it is fantastic. Neither product is inexpensive but they both have real science behind them AND offer either sample packs or free samples. Skin Biology is really great about their sampling.
I can personally vouch for the efficacy of both lines as I have used them for several years.

    1. Thank you, thank you for mentioning these lines. My immune system is raising the red flag more often than ever before too. There are wonderful inexpensive products but many are tested on animals which I avoid if at all possible. I’ll google these and see if I can get some to try. Where do you buy yours?

      1. Riversol will send a 15 day trial of their products. I’m not sure if they mail to the US but it’s free in Canada. It came highly recommended through my esthetician. I look forward to my trying it.

  9. No particular line. I keep looking for the best of the moment from others like you. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I think that’s the best way to find things that work for us because the ads say everything is a miracle cream;)

  10. To answer your question… yes, I have found a line I am using exclusively and amazed by… Chaumonix Genucel products. Works better than anything I have tried before! I love the stem plant technology and instant results! Thanks for asking!

    1. I know you were a big fan of Strivectin, so it’s quite a testiment that you prefer this brand! Thanks Pam, I need to try some of their products.
