Prepping For New Years

Prepping For New Years

Yesterday was a gray day around here so I took the opportunity to take the tree down. We like to have the house back to normal by New Year’s Eve, so the tree is always the first to go. Every year we talk about getting an artificial tree and every year we don’t so we deal with this mess. Ugh.

The year-end sales are in full swing now so I’m hoping to find a nice one before they’re all gone.

Victoria Emerson is also having her New Year Sale and sent me a few things to share with you. The year-end sale is buy one get one free plus free shipping over $50! She started designing handmade bracelets in 2012 and has since expanded to carry a whole line including watches and necklaces.victoria emerson grey suede watch

I wear a lot of greys so I jumped on these Rothy’s sneakers and love them! The honeycomb weave makes the fabric stretchier than usual and they are super soft. victoria emerson watch and wrap braceletTheir gray is the same color as the leather on my new Light Turquoise and Pearl wrap. It’s currently sold out but you can sign up to be notified when they restock. This crystal on gray wrap is also soft and pretty with a similar look.

This Light Grey Suede watch is my nod to the florals which will be everywhere this spring. I don’t wear floral clothes so this tiny bit on a watch is a great way to add a touch of trend.

I’ve been asked how I wrap my bracelets and Victoria Emerson has instructions here. I button mine on the inside of my wrist and tuck the extra lace under the wraps.

My favorite bracelets are her Boho Cuffs. They’re inspired by her world travels and named after some favorite cities and regions. The larger ones close with a magnet which makes them a snap to put on and take off.

Is your house back together after the holidays or do you leave the decorations up longer?

Thanks for reading and remember to always wear what makes you feel confident.

I take down everything Christmas-oriented by New Years, but I leave my snowmen out until Feb.They make me smile to look at them and remember how exciting snow was when I was a child growing up in Portland, where snow doesn’t happen every year.
Happy 2020 to you, and thank you for the inspiration you provide.I hope this year will be your best ever.

We leave our tree and other decorations up until after New Years. My husband’s birthday is January 6, so we always have them put away by then.

Happy New Year, Jennifer! We didn’t decorate this year due to our temporary quarters situation … so I’m footloose and fancy free to explore winter sales, watch football and binge watch The Great British Baking Show! In a normal year, I start take down our Christmas decorations after Christmas and have them packed away and start the New Year uncluttered and somewhat organized. xo

I just watched the British Baking Show for the first time and see how addicting it could be. Your new home will be so gorgeous! Can’t wait to see it. Happy New Year! Xx

Happy New Year! I have a question on the bracelets. I ordered one, but can’t figure out how to get it on my wrist. Do I need to have someone tie it on after I wrap it around my wrist many times or am I missing something? Thank you.

Fearing fire hazard with our dried out tree so will dismantle soon. 2020 may be a year of many major changes in our lives so I am moving towards accommodating those. It will involve extensive purging and letting go in prep for possible overseas relocation. Lots to do. So will be repacking Christmas decorations with extra care for shipping.
Hope the New Year finds you happily settled in your new home and continuing to share your lovely blogs with all of us.

Christmas stays up until next Saturday…the saddest day of the year for me because I love the warm, cozy feeling the season gives to my home. It always seems so sad once everything is put away. I have one real tree and one Balsam Hill artificial…which I highly recommend. Yes, the real one drops needles but I love to have both and the aroma of the real in the house. I will enjoy each moment until they go back in storage.
    Happy New Year, Jennifer!

Kept decorating to a minimum this year as only hosted a family ‘n friend’s brunch prior to Christmas since daughter hosted its Dinner gathering. Whereas definitely will have to tidy up my craft room where the elf of this household (namely me) wrapped the gifts, as it is somewhat upside down right now. (Must repack the paper/ribbon/bows/gift boxes etc.) -Brenda-

We went with a beautiful artificial tree about 5 years ago and have no regrets. At 70 yrs I just wasn’t willing to fight the mess anymore. While I love decorating for Christmas, the day after it all gets packed away for next year. I am ready to look forward to a clean, uncluttered 2020!

It’s all down and packed away till next year. It takes the eye a couple of days to adjust to the plainness afterwards but I like to get everything back to normal before the new year. Already for 2020. Happy New Year Everyone!

I take down the tree on New Year’s day. We leave up the outdoor lights and wreath for awhile longer. We enjoy the festive lights in the dark mornings and nights in the northwest. I used to wear my v neck cashmere sweaters all the time but now I feel better in a crew neck sweater, younger looking. Happy New year ?

I went for it and got this tree this year and love it! The price moves around a lot, it was $309 when I ordered.
It looks way better than my mother’s Balsam Hill tree that she got this year. Both were easy to set up.

My decorations went up the day after Thanksgiving and the tree and christmas-y things will get packed up on New Years Day. I leave some winter decor up til spring- silvery bits, a dull metal reindeer, crystal 6” tree and a small glass deer. And a bunch of mercury glass. I add a plaque that says “silver white winters.” I always put an artificial but teal-looking wreath above the fireplace. I leave it up but remove the red bow.
    Winter decorating done!

We put our decorations up the day after Thanksgiving (artificial tree) and keep the decorations up until Epiphany (Jan. 6).

Jennifer, you look so relaxed and casual but put together in this outfit. The photo of you standing against the wall with on knee up is really flattering !

Tree (artificial) and all decorations were dismantled and packed away this past weekend. I also like to start the New Year with a clean house with no signs of Christmas. I really enjoy the decorations but we put them up right after Thanksgiving so by now I am over it! Love how the house looks so uncluttered now.

We leave our decorations up until around January 6, give or take, depending on what’s going on.

I love the v-neck cashmere sweater and just made my first purchase from Everlane – so well priced! Thanks for the recommendation. Do you hand wash it using your method that you posted previously, or do you dryclean it?

Thanks Jennifer – love your blog!

I never dry clean cashmere. They get so much cleaner when I hand wash them. I hope you love it like I do

We didn’t have a tree this year. I decided to get cataract surgery the end of November so it would be over before the new year so I decided to just put out a few things. It was nice really to just put out special things here and there which are already as of yesterday back in storage.
What is more perfect than jeans and a cashmere sweater? I like those shoes too. Neutrals to the rescue to help settle things after the holidays. Happy New Year! May it be blessed.

We always keep any indoor decorations and the tree up (and its always a real tree) till January 1st or 2nd. Outdoor Christmas lights stay on at night till mid to late January as they look so nice with all the snow we usually get then.

Happy New Year to you and yours Jennifer and to all the wonderful gals who follow your blog.

I have young grandkids, they love the decorations, but I will start taking them down New Years Day.
I have a question about the Rothy’s shoes. (Spelling?) do they have any support.
I’ve been to the website and would love to order
    A pair, but my feet…?

      December 30, 2019 / 5:59 am

They don’t have arch supports. If you go up a size you can add them. I add a heel cup in mine to lift my heel and avoid a nerve at the back of my heel. They do have free returns so you could order two sizes to try and see if they work for you.

Christmas runs until January 6 in our house. Oddly I enjoy the needle drop and the careful dismantling and storing of ornaments. The tree only goes up on Christmas Eve so there’s a limited window to enjoy its colour scent and lights!

We leave out decorations up way into January. It’s cold and dark here in South Dakota and the lights of Christmas make winter warmer.
