Road Trip

Road Trip
I took my new Bensimon sneakers out for a road trip this weekend. Coincidentally, it turns out they’re the exact color of the trim and riding boots on my newest Hermes scarf. So together with a straw Fedora, blue jeans and simple Eileen Fisher black T-shirt, my dogs and I hit the road.

The shoes turned out to be very comfy once I put my arch supports in them. (aging is not for sissies).
I’d never worn Bensimons previously but when I saw how cute they were on a post by hostess of the humble bungalow I thought I’d give them a try. Thank you Hostess!

Normally I don’t do sneakers. I feel too old for Converse and my finicky belief is that, at least for me, gym shoes are for working out and that’s that. Consequently my casual shoes have been stupidly expensive Ballet flats, sandals and an occasional pair of lace ups that resemble gnome shoes. I have very difficult feet as a result of 16 years in Ballet Toe Shoes and I’m paying the price now. Literally.

It doesn’t look like the color matches in these pictures, but trust me, if they didn’t, I wouldn’t have paired them. Persnickety is a delicate word to describe my level of exactingness when it comes to color matching.

My first attempt at photographing something I’m wearing. I look pretty intense and serious! Something to work on improving
You may notice that my wall color matches my scarf and eye color…not an accident. I’m a firm believer in decorating your home in colors that you look good in. There’s solid theories behind it…but that’s for another post someday.

Before we left I refilled our leash attachment with a new pack of “poop” bags. I think of leopard print as a chic neutral, so of course this would be an appropriate dog accessory since I’m the one carrying it.
But what’s with the label on the red roll of bags? Floral Scent…really? Do they think I’ll either sniff them or that the fragrance will mask the contents? Bizarre. Who thinks of this stuff?

Lucy, Finn and I headed out to one our favorite places to commune with nature.
Here’s Lucy wearing her snazzy black and white polka dot car halter, strapped into her sheepskin covered car seat. Their seats lift them about 12″ above my car seat level so they can safely look out the window while being held securely with the seat belt. Finn has the same set up, but he’s sitting behind me, so I couldn’t get his picture.

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park.

There’s a Bald Eagle nest up in that tree, I can hear them.
Eagles make the most ridiculous sounds. Sort of a squeal rather than a strong sounding caw or screech. Not a majestic sound at all.

Pretty fuzzy picture zoomed in, pretty huge nest up there.
I’m continually impressed by Bald Eagles. No matter how many times a spot one, I am in awe. They are so large and majestic with their startling white heads and tails.

We walk the paths through the forest and along the rocky shore for just over an hour. Content just to be smelling the crisp, clean salt air, listening to the wind whisper through the trees and the waves lap against the shore. It feels magical to me and my soul quiets just by being here.

Home to sit on the deck and watch the world go by.

Enjoying a cool glass of Chardonnay as Finn and I wait for the light show to begin.

Just as the cruise ship slips over the horizon through the sunset, it is set aglow for a precious few seconds.

I am at peace here. I feel a presence greater than my own. Nature at its most beautiful.
This style of living suits me beautifully just now.

Do you have a special place you go to, where you connect with the peace within you?

Wild horses couldn’t pull my butt from that chair on your deck–what a glorious view. I also like your sentiments on decorating the house to match what looks good on “you”. Great concept.

Your doggies are completely precious…and obviously well-loved.

    with bare feet
and I’m here in Ireland in fleecy sox and the central heating on,
it is very cold this evening.
    I’m jealous of you girl!!

Lovely post, great shoes, hat, scarf and you look fantastic.

I hope that you have a great weekend.

I am sorry that I haven’t been commenting or blogging this week

I would very much like to live there.
You are so perfectly pulled together, I find putting together every day clothes one big headache.

The pace of life is very slow here. So different than San Francisco!

Love your hat! Your view is incredible there. If I had that view I wouldn’t need to rent a cabin in the woods for some tranquility. It’s lovely.

What a lovely view you have…I suspect I will only ever see these sights from the deck of a cruise ship.

Really, you need to come have a glass with me on my deck — that’s my special place — we look out past the north tip of Gabriola and over to the Sunshine Coast. Bald eagles often screech nearby, and there are always Great Blue herons showing off their patience, giving me a lesson.
    Très French, those Bensimons . . .

    Thanks for the mention!
Happy to hear that you like the Bensimons.
I think you look fabulous in your new Hermes scarf the colours are perfect with your eyes and skin tone.

You’ve got an amazing panoramic view of the ocean from your deck…
a view that could be seen from an aerie if one were able to fly 🙂
