Dressing Room Diaries- Talbots March Collection

Happy Friday ladies. I was in the mood for a small wardrobe refresh this week and took advantage of the 25% off sale at Talbots. The sale is still on through Monday so you may want to have a peek. While there I also did a dressing room diary to share some other things I found for a Talbots March Collection try on session.

If youā€™re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 138 lbs with broad shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso and arms so I often buy one size larger on top. I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me so you can see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the items and no additional cost to you.

I shared the Talbots February collection with you here.

Woman trying on sweater and jeans from Talbots march Collection
WEARING –Ā  CHARMING CARDIGAN IN PAISLEYĀ  –Ā  STOVEPIPE JEANS IN PACIFIC WASHĀ  –Ā  TWILL FIELD JACKET

Talbots makes this charming cardigan in a fun new pattern for each collection. I like them worn closed as a top all on their own. This is a misses small and too snug on me because they fit close to the body. The twill field jacket is a great spring layer. It’s long enough to cover your backside, with a casual vibe. It comes in 2 other colors in misses, petite, plus, and petite. I’m wearing a misses in small.

These stovepipe jeans are a new shape this spring. They have a fuller wide-leg than straight jeans and are cropped. The rise is slightly above the waist. I’m wearing a misses 8 so they look longer than they should be. They’re also one size too large on me so they run TTS.

WEARING –Ā  FANCY PLAID SHIRTĀ  –Ā  MODERN ANKLE JEAN IN MERIDIAN WASHĀ  Ā –Ā  LACE UP SWEATER

This classic, 100% cotton shirt also comes in raspberry. I am wearing India ink (deep navy). It does not have stretch. The inner neck and cuffs have a contrasting floral fabric to show when you pop the color and flip your cuffs back. I am wearing a misses in small.

I topped it with this fun lace-up sweater with a nautical vibe. Nautical is a huge trend for spring and is a common theme in preppy styles. This rope is large so it gives an almost campy vibe to the sweater which is fun. I’m wearing indigo, and it comes in 3 other shades. I’m wearing a misses in small.

I’m wearing it with these modern ankle jeans in the Meridian wash which are very forgiving but slimmer than the stove pipe.Ā  They are a high-waist cut that’s slim through the thighs and have a relaxed, straight leg. I am wearing an 8 petite which shows the intended length. There is a lighter wash here, and white here, which is in my cart.

WOMANW EARING TWILL JACKETS FROM TALBOTS MARCH COLLECTION
WEARING –Ā  TWILL FIELD JACKET ON LEFTĀ  –Ā  PEBBLE DOT RUFFLED SHELLĀ  –Ā  MODERN ANKLE JEANSĀ  –Ā  MONTAUK TWILL JACKET ON RIGHT

Here are the same jeans with a pretty sleeveless shell with a tiny ruffle at the neck. The viscose is airy and soft. This is ivory and rattan colored, it also comes in black and ivory. I’m wearing a misses large which is way too big so it runs TTS.

Both twill jackets coordinate with the print and give a different feel. The jacket on the right is boxier and shorter. It’s 100% cotton with chic epaulettes and hidden buttons at the four flap pockets so it has a utilitarian vibe. It comes in 3 colors. I’m wearing ivory in misses small.

RASPBERRY TRENCH FROM TALBOTS MARCH COLLECTION TRY ON SESSION
WEARING –Ā  BELTED TRENCH COAT IN RASPBERRY

Talbots make this same iconic, best-selling trench every year in fresh colors. This raspberry is a show stopper with timeless details like faux-horn buttons, storm flaps, and epaulettes. Its flattering princess seams give it a nice shape and the fabric is water-resistant. I am wearing a petite large which is a tiny bit large on me so it runs TTS.

WEARING –Ā  POLKA DOT PERFECT SHIRTĀ  –Ā  QUILTED MICRO VESTĀ  –Ā  MODERN ANKLE JEANSĀ  – CLASSIC DENIM JACKET ON RIGHTĀ  –Ā  CREW NECK WHITE TEEĀ Ā  RELAXED CHINOS IN PERFECT CHECKĀ

This polka dot Perfect shirt and vest came home with me. I have several of their “perfect” shirts in both solid and print and love how versatile they are. Their no-iron fabric seldom needs touching up. This color is a total departure from the norm for me, but polka dots are a perennial fav. The vest is so very soft, I just loved the fresh combo. The vest also comes in 4 pretty spring colors. I bought this misses small rather than the petite medium because my torso is long and the slight waist shaping was too high in the petite.Ā  The difference is only 1 1/2″ in length but I felt the fit was more important.

These checked pants are the cutest things I’ve seen for spring. I don’t usually look for cute and preppy isn’t my normal vibe but something about them spoke to me. They only had a few sizes left so they are selling fast. One review reported they ran large which could be true because these are an 8 regular and I wear a 6. I think these pants could be fun with a black crew neck and black loafers. The black would tone down the sweet color and the shapes would stay in tune with the classic, prepster vibe. Hmm…I may order these to see.

WEARING –Ā  HOT PINK CLASSIC DENIM JACKETĀ  –Ā  WHITE TEEĀ  –Ā  STOVEPIPE JEANS

A reader who struggles to find flattering white jeans for her fuller thighs asked which style she should look for. These would be great! They are relaxed full leg that’s cut straight and give lots more room in the thigh without being baggy through the hips. They’re ankle length as opposed to these high-waist straight-leg white jeans that have a straight, slimmer leg.

This hot pink denim jacket jumped into my hand. I do love a great classic and this unexpected color is fun. It also comes in two other colors. I am wearing a misses in a medium that gives extra room to layering.

Are you adding fun colors to your wardrobe yet for spring?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. OMG. I love the new glasses. Such a great look on you! Maybe I missed a post about them.

    1. Iā€™ve had these severalyears but just updated the RX šŸ™‚

  2. That raspberry trench is fabulous on you! So refreshing rather than the usual black or tan.
Love the hot pink jean jacket so much! The way you are modeling it says me all over! I’m so glad you showed that because when you look at it on the website it doesn’t look as vibrant and also looks a little like leaning toward coral. I hope your picture is the true color because I may just have to order it! Love!
You look great in everything in this post and I’m with others; even the glasses are a hit!
    Thanks Jennifer. Love Talbot’s.

  3. I probably have more Talbots my closet than any other store brand. Their clothes have always been a good fit for me, and they have frequent promotions that fit my budget too! Most impressive though in todayā€™s post are your eyeglasses! They are very flattering in both color and shape. I am currently hunting for new ones, and since my hair color and skin tone is similar to yours. I would love to know where you got them!

    1. I love them. These are a brand called Aspire. Many optometrist carry them if you check online.

  4. Wow, I love everything you tried on and they all look great on you! This try on session was a winner for me. I’m long waisted as you are and wondered how the modern jeans fit. Were they high enough in the back to fit comfortable at the waist?

  5. I like your blog, but there is entirely too many ads, I have to scroll right past that gets annoying.

  6. For certain, some really nice styles here and though not normally a ‘pink’ person do like the raspberry colour they are offering in their line for this season. That said though; re the Trench Coat I wish designers would offer a detachable hood for such garments as IMHO a lot of people would appreciate such an option and would not mind paying a little extra for it …. ā˜ŗ.

  7. That paisley is bright and cheerful.

  8. Ordered the raspberry cardigan, ruffled shell, and pink polka dot blouse. Think they should perk up my spring/summer wardrobe and will go with similar jackets, vests and jeans already in my closet. Thanks for the ideas!

    1. Those are great pieces!

  9. That pink trench in the first picture looks great on you. I donā€™t know if those are new eyeglasses or not but they look equally terrific. Thanks for the post. Have a great weekend !

How pretty you look in that trench coat. That color is super on you — and I love that shade of lipstick on you, too! One of your very best dressing room posts!

I also like that lace up sweater over the black/white plaid shirt. What a fabulous outfit!

  11. Your hot pink jacket jumped in your hand because you look great in it! The bright colors that you wear are made for you. So refreshing to know warmer weather is coming soon.
I’m on the hunt for a perfect white shirt that doesn’t need ironing so I will check out the “Perfect Shirt” at Talbots.

  12. I hope you bought the raspberry trench coat; you look fabulous in it.

    1. I would have loved to but I already own that coat in lighter pink so I could not justify it.

  13. Those spring looks from Talbots look great on you – I especially like the raspberry raincoat and the paisley sweater colors, they are very pretty on you. I’m going to go to Talbots and try on the stovepipe and relaxed jeans and chinos you showed.

    1. Keep me posted on which shapes you prefer

  14. You look fabulous in the raspberry trench! Makes me want it. I am a Talbots lover so this post spoke to me.

    Thanks, Julie

  15. This is a fun refresh. All those pinks look great on you.

  16. The pink jacket with all white is really striking. I also really like the vest, I’ve been looking for a new one. You look great in everything, I would want to take everything home. Thanks Jennifer.

      Thanks
You do look GREAT in everything.
I’m going thru a metamorphosis sooooo your choices gave me some great ideas….I need a whole new
      Wardrobe….I went from A 18-16
      To A 8-6….I’m soooooo Happy.
I’m growing my hair back too
(It fell out)….With A little Tender
Love & Care it should be back in time for spring…..Thanks A Million

      1. I’m so happy for you!! That’s wonderful news! Sending more tender loving care your way. xox

    2. I did want to take it all home. It’s a hazard of my hob šŸ™‚

  17. Thanks, Jennifer. I’ve been looking at the Montauk jacket – interesting how the twill jacket’s darker shade is so much better with the ruffle blouse on you. I love the raspberry trench, but I have T’s trench from 2020 — and really how many raincoats does a person need? I actually need a vest, so the white one is on my list. I’m 5’2.5″ and HATE T’s classic and perfect shirts b/c they’re 26″ long — way too long for me. Sadly, I now buy shirts elsewhere.

    1. I have that trench in soft pink or I would add this one šŸ™‚

  18. Pink is definitely your color – super cute with the color of your hair! By the way – your hair looks amazing!

    1. Thanks, Nancy. It seems to be coming in with pink and blue tones…and I am not abusing the purple shampoo šŸ™‚

  19. Enjoyed seeing all these great looks. Thanks for doing the shopping! The stovepipe jean’s look like a good fit.

    1. They are very forgiving. A great new fit

  20. These looks say spring to me! Thanks, Jennifer. I am going to try the white stovepipe jeans because they may help balance my figure – larger on top than the bottom. We shall see if this works or not. The art of camouflage, right?

    1. Absolutely! I prefer wider legged pants to balance my shoulders as well.

  21. Great looks!! Thanks so much for sharing this post.

  22. You shown some very nice styles today.
I’m smitten with hot pink for the first time in my life, and have added 2 spring sweaters in that colour. One is a shorter style to wear with wide leg pants and the other is a slim fit longer length to wear with strait leg pants.
Now I’m on the hunt for a matching lipstick šŸ™‚

    1. I am all about the pink lipstick this spring too. Check out Bare Minerals. I now have 4 off their pinks
