Dressing Room Diary-Talbots Try-On Session
We still have lots of summer weather left to enjoy but the fall merchandise is trickling into stores. I often find many of the best things come in the early fall collections so I took a ride over to the local Talbots to see what’s new. There were very few things on the floor but I found some keepers in this Talbots try-on session.
If you’re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I’m 5’4″ and weigh approx 136 lbs. I have wide shoulders and straight, narrow hips. I have a long torso and arms and often wear one size larger on top than the bottom.
Most Talbots garments are available in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite sizes 0 – 22.
I started with denim and leopard because those are fun year-round. This relaxed jean is the newest shape for Talbots. It has a relaxed, fuller leg but I wouldn’t call it straight. It’s very slightly tapered which I found roomy so I went down a size because I think it runs large. The wash is nice and dark for fall (lighter wash with frayed hem here) and you can choose to roll the cuff or not. For you ladies with a larger thigh or calf, these are the jeans for you to try. I sized down to a 4 petite.
LATEST TALBOTS ACCESSORIES
The cheetah pullover is a classic you could dress up or down. It’s a cotton blend with an ivory background. I’m wearing a misses small so it runs TTS. The red girlfriend cardigan comes in 4 colors here, and 2 stripes here. The shape is more streamlined and feminine-looking than the boxier boyfriend sweaters. I’m wearing a medium in petite.
These slim ankle jeans are the prettiest ivory color. It’s the same classic shape as their other slim jeans but this pair seemed way too long for me so I definitely need the petite in these. I’m wearing a misses in 6. The striped sweater is a cotton blend with a bateau neckline. The buttons on the sleeves are purely decorative. It comes in 4 solids here and 4 stripes here.Ā
This animal print anorak grabbed my attention the second I walked in the door. It’s water-resistant and although it’s hard to think of now, we will be getting rain. The hood makes it double handy in nasty weather. The bungee cord is a nice way to snug up the waist and give it some shape. I am wearing a petite small. The zipper also zips open from the bottom making it easier to sit in the car. It’s also available in pink here.
These are Talbots classic slim ankle jeans in tortoise which I would describe as deep cinnamon or rust color. I’m wearing a 4 regular so they run TTS.
Could I just say I love, love, love these slip-on shoes? I need them in lots more colors:)
I’m a sucker for a great denim skirt and Talbots makes one each season. This is a classic 5 pocket styling pencil skirt that fits and flatters. On the left is aĀ misses in 4, on the right is petite in 6. It’s intended to be knee-length but because my torso is long, I’d prefer it a bit shorter for balance and would opt for the petite version. I’d even look for a dark belt to elongate the look on my bottom half more.
This pointelle pullover comes in 3 colors in misses and petite. The sleeves have a subtle puff at the shoulder but lays pretty flat because the fabric is soft. I’m wearing. appetite in small because you want a sweater like this to hit right at your waist.
This denim jacket is a Talbots classic that has lots of stretch so it’s very comfy. I have this denim jacket in 4 colors so can attest to its comfort. Classics like this never go out of style so end-of-season sales are perfect times to shop them and this is marked down in a gorgeous peach.

Hi Jennifer! I loved the relaxed jeans as well as the brown ones with the jacket. You referenced the Tulip sneakers in a previous post. Comments say to buy one size up. Would you agree? I have a medium size 9 foot.
Love Talbots. Shopped there for decades but now there isnāt a retail shop in Vancouver. They have no.Canadian website. Hit hard with duties and taxes at the border. Now I see that Talbots is going down on the stock exchange. Do you know anything about this?
There is a Talbots at the Park Royal in West Vancouver. I love their clothes so hope they do well

Yes and itās 1 size too small for me as well. Iād prefer the regular on me but it wasnāt in the store

Just hoping the arms aren’t too long since it did not come in a petite (5’2, 137 lbs and dropping).
Congratulations! I push my sleeves up all the time and I am also a fan of folding the sleeves up once or twice to make a 2″ band at the bottom.
I love Talbotsā¦just a bit of a trek to get there.

I love the color of those “tortoise” jeans, so great for fall. I’ve had my eye on the Tulip slip-ons for some time, but they don’t look promising for someone with narrow feet. May I ask what width you normally wear, for a point of reference?
I have a medium to wide foot so they may be too loose on a narrow foot

Every outfit looks nice on you. I especially like the pink pointelle pullover with white denim jacket and dark jeans. Talbots is a great brand that I have worn for years. Still have many of their pieces in my closet.

I was in Talbots yesterday & saw the cinnamon colored denim jeans. Love the color! I wish Iād seen the jacket. Itās still too hot to imagine wearing for another 2-3 mo here. I did pick up some great sale items!
I will have to try the relaxed jeans, they look great on you and a comfortable fit on the leg. The slim ankle pants also look good but having bought 2 pairs earlier in the summer, I am disappointed that after two washings they cling like leggings, not what I wanted.
