The Marine Collagen Blend That Works!

Happy Sunday ladies. I don’t and won’t gush about every product that a brand sends me because frankly, I consider that selling out. In my business, I get to try plenty of things that are meh, so I’m not going to waste your time with them. But this one is a game-changer that I am thrilled to share! You may remember, my collagen journey began back in March of this year when Collagen For Her reached out to ask if I wanted to try their Marine Collagen Beauty Blend.

This post is sponsored by Collagen For Her, all opinions are my own.

I did some research and discovered that Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and one of the vital building blocks found in our skin, bones, joints, muscles, hair, and nails. Since normal collagen production declines as we age, it makes sense that supplementing our diet with high-quality collagen provides extra support as we get older.

I also read that it can improve your hair and nails which convinced me to try it because my nails were a train wreck, and always have been. I began adding one scoop of their Marine Collagen Beauty Blend to my afternoon tea back in March. I knew it would take several months to show its effects and now, 9 months later, I can unequivocally say, it has miraculously improved my fingernails.

Yes, not rocket science or third-world problems, but if it’s done such an amazing job on my nails, I can’t wait to learn how it’s improved my bone density which I’m getting retested next month!

Studies have shown that hydrolyzed collagen (or collagen hydrolysate) can help strengthen your joints and help with pain caused by conditions like osteoarthritis.

This length nail is nothing for most women, but for me, it qualifies as long! I’ve never been able to grow my nails past the quick without them breaking, tearing, and peeling like an onion unless they were supported by artificial acrylics or gel from the salon! Now, I can even keep red polish on for 4-5 days, which is a miracle.

Collagen For Her makes several formulas. The Unflavored Collagen Peptide Powder is sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised beef. It’s all-natural, non-GMO, keto, paleo, sugar, gluten, dairy, and soy-free!

The Multi-Collagen Capsules contains collagen from five different sources including bovine and fish and is perfect for days on the go.

I take the Marine Collagen Beauty Blend which is made with a unique blend of hydrolyzed fish collagen, 100% daily Vitamin C, biotin, and hyaluronic acid so it’s perfect for folks like me who are pescatarian.

The collagen industry is saturated with products, and the shelves of my market are lined with options. I prefer Collagen For Her because it was designed by a woman for women and made with clean and pronounceable ingredients, so all women know exactly what they’re putting in their bodies. All of their products are manufactured in a GMP-certified facility. Each batch of collagen is tested and comes with a certificate of analysis (COA) to ensure it is safe for consumption.

I occasionally add my scoop to my morning smoothy, along with a big handful of spinach and some protein powder. But on the mornings when I have oatmeal for breakfast, it goes into my afternoon tea. It dissolves completely and there is no fishy taste!

This Marine Collagen Beauty Blend is now a permanent addition to my dietary supplements because it’s proven to me that it works!

Yes, I read your report on collagen back in the spring. Another lady friend had recommended collagen and I thought well, it can’t hurt. So I tried a brand that she uses. Didn’t like it at all. It had to be taken with organic juice every morning. Well, after the first month package, I looked around some more. After trying probably about five different brands, I found what works for me. I take a collagen protein in my morning coffee. That one has three distinctive strains for hair skin and nails. In the afternoon I take a collagen protein that has like nine different strains for more intensive treatment. I started this two type program about four months ago and I can really tell the difference, especially with my nails and my hair. I will be 75 in January and feel this particular product does what it says it will. And at my age I want to be the best I can for the time I am here. Thanks for sharing this information and thank you for being there for all of us.

    1. Thank for being here with us too, Rhoda

I began using marine collagen last year but had to stop because it was really upsetting my stomach. A couple of weeks ago while in the health food store I was advised to give it another try, but with bovine collagen, which apparently has less chance of gastrointestinal distress. So far, so good! Hopefully by summer I’ll have respectable looking nails…

    1. I tried bovine collagen and it upset my stomach too. I used it in my smoothies. Do you have any suggestions I could try to mix it with?

  3. Trying…ordered…can’t wait! Thank you! I’ve had nails like yours my whole life too.
I take a “skin elixir” supplement powder every day. It’s supposed to be a “collagen builder.”
When I first started using it my nails grew, but now they seem to have gone back to square one, even though I’ve continued to take it for a year +, so I am anxious to try this and to see what happens.

    1. Let me know how this works for you.

  4. Just a heads up for your Canadian followers — this company does not ship to Canada and this item does not appear to be available at Canadian Walmart stores. Maybe someday?

  5. I started using Collagen Peptide Powder for Her when you recommended it earlier this year. My nails are stronger and grow faster, and my hair seems to grow faster. I purchased from Amazon during Prime days, it was a great price so I purchased 3 containers.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

  6. Jennifer, what probiotics do you take? Thanks, I identify with most all of your health concerns (especially baby fine hair and osteoporosis) and love reading your articles!

    1. I love this one and now order mine from Walmart because it’s 1/3 the price of buying in my local store. I love it because it’s shelf stable and does not have to be refrigerated. That means I can fill my weekly pill container and they stay good until I take them.

I read with interest about adding collagen to your tea or smoothies and seeing a difference in the strength of your nails after several months.
I have been trying a different approach… using cuticle oil for about the same length of time, applying it a couple of times a day, and working it into my cuticles and nails. My nails are noticeably smoother, split less, and actually require filing, to keep growth in check, something that is so rare for my poor nails. My thumb nails are still rubbish, but a bit less problematic. The nail beds are damaged, so only so much to be done with them.
I use Sally Hansen or Revlon, whichever is available.
Avoplex ( with avocado oil) did not give me the same results.
I am enjoying the look of actually having longer, smoother nails ( finally) and even considering adding some nail polish! Maybe red for Christmas. Pretty and festive, that is , until the communal washing up after turkey dinner does them in!

  8. Thanks for the heads up on the sale!! I have been using the Vital Proteins brand but since this is on sale with the coffee scrub bonus I decided to order this one. Also wanted to let you know that I enjoy seeing all of your pretty tea cups you use! Glad to see someone using them instead of them just sitting behind glass for display purposes. Don’t save the good things for a special occasion use them!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I’ve been using collagen in my coffee for almost a year, I have nail problems too! I’ve noticed improvements in both, I still have major ridges on my fingernails but my toes seem stronger, they always crack way down on the nail bed! I’m hoping for improvement by next summer for sandal weather. Very discouraging to spend money on pedis then have my big toe continually crack so low I have to stop the pedis file it down weird and hope no one notices! Lol – great post! Your nails look great!

  10. I d been taking another brand of collagen supplement for about a year. It has so improved nails but really helped my fine hair! I thought it was the haircut. Ut then it dawned on me that it was indeed since taking the suppliments ! Anyone else notice this??

  11. I am a breast cancer survivor and just read the comment that collagen supplements might be a problem. I see my oncologist in a few weeks and will tell you all what she says. In the meantime, I have been adding the marine formula to my morning coffee. My nails and hair need help from chemo and aging. I am just starting my 2nd jar so too soon to tell. Fingers crossed. Have you had any real success with rogaine?

    1. Hoping for work wonderful results at your app! Please do let us know how you’re getting on Christi. Yes, the Rogaine has been very helpful for me so I continue to use it daily.

  12. Patients should consult with their doctor before taking collagen supplements to rule out any interactions with medications or supplements already in your daily regimen. If you do want to boost your body’s production of collagen, Dr. Murphy-Rose suggests daily use of SPF and vitamin C creams, and making sure you eat plentiful sources of vitamin C, A, copper, and proline. That will supplement collagen formation, she says. And that means happy skin, muscles, and bones.”

  13. Linda in Virginia says:

Thanks for the update, Jennifer! I too will be very interested to know if you see improved bone density scores. I’d also love to find out if it benefits osteoarthritis of the knees. P.S. I love your blue sweater – please let us know the source!

    1. The blue sweater is a fav!! It’s marked down too Here

  14. I had been using another brand of bovine collagen for a couple of years and had great results with my joints and nails BUT there was always an “animal” taste to the product in my tea. So when you mentioned Collagen for Her a few months ago I tried it and am delighted with the way it just melts into the water with no graininess and no taste at all. Love it and my hair, nails and joints are happy.

    1. Thanks for reporting back. I don’t eat mammals so I couldn’t report on the bovine version.

  15. Ditto to the others comments. I have osteoporosis and currently taking meds. Recent DEXA shows I’m holding steady, but would love to know if your “scores” show improvement after your months taking the collagen.

    1. I’ll know in a week or two and will report back.

  16. Francesca B. says:

I have been taking collagen for a year now and l really notice a difference in my nails. I am on a fitness and weight loss program which has high intensity workouts and weight workouts and l need the protein to build muscle and prevent injury’s and it is working. I feel so much stronger. Happy week Jennifer 🙂

    1. Congratulations Francesca! My daughter is encouraging me to use heavier weights too. I guess it’s time!

  17. I started using Collagen for Her when you recommended it, and I agree with your assessment. My nails are stronger and grow faster. My knees are still a little creaky, but I don’t think collagen can do much for bursitis.

I really appreciate your practical, honest advice.

    1. I can’t tell if mine are growing faster or if it’s just that they’re nit breaking but I’m thrilled! So glad it’s helped you too!

  18. Thank you for this review because you are so right…there’s so many ads out there for collagen that it’s very confusing as to which one to use. I am curious if you have tried the probiotic tablets and if you have noticed any changes if you have tried them. I too am anxious to hear your results on your bone density since i have osteopenia.

    1. I take probiotics every morning and have for many years. I took many antibiotics for sinus infections over the years, my intestinal flora needs all the help it can get. I am much more regular now

  19. I really am looking forward to your bone density results when you get them. I would use it if improved your score. My hair and nails are strong, but I have osteopenia.

    1. which kind would be best for joint issues?

  20. Traci Persky says:

    Dear Jennifer:

According to a blog post on marnieclark.com, there’s a ‘possible link’ to cancer with collagen supplements. Obviously, studies here are preliminary, but I’d err on the side of caution.

    Traci

    1. You must of course check with your Dr! I should have included that. If I was a breast cancer survivor I wouldn’t take anything she didn’t approve. I read that same report which also stated there’s evidence of some types of collagen that suppress tumor growth.

  21. I used to take collagen supplements and noticed a positive difference in my joints, nails and skin. I mentioned during a visit to my oncologist when she advised me to “stop immediately.”
If you are a breast cancer patient or survivor, please consult with your medical team before taking collagen supplements. Many research articles on potential consequences are available. One follows.

    1. Very good advice, Susan! Always check with your Dr. most especially if you’re a cancer patient!
