Valentine’s Fashion for a Casual Dinner Out-Style Sweet Spot

Valentine’s Fashion for a Casual Dinner Out-Style Sweet Spot

I can’t remember when we stopped celebrating Valentine’s Day. My husband and I just paid less and less attention to it until we simply stopped acknowledging it. Yesterday I overheard my daughter telling my husband he must make dinner reservations to take me out to celebrate. I love that girl! He was busy telling her “we like to stay home”. I was talking over him, saying ” we don’t ALWAYS like to stay home”. I probably caused his restaurant reluctance by being a fantastic cook. (funny, but I’m not a bit shy to say that I am) However, I do love to get dressed nicely and be served at a restaurant, which my daughter knows.

Last week Pam and I showed how we would dress to attend a baby shower. This week we are dressing for a Valentine’s Day outing.

Style has the power to transform your confidence. Working from the outside in, women can boost their confidence by hitting their Style Sweet Spot. Pam Lutrell and I began this new series to help and inspire those women who are struggling with their appearance. Each week we choose a scenario from our daily lives to show why, what and how we dress to reach our style sweet spot. Your style sweet spot is when you feel confident about your appearance and know you are sending the message you want people to see.

So the upshot was he scrambled and found us a reservation. Not easy on the day before Valentines day. We’re going to a very casual, local restaurant that’s been getting great reviews.

The power of accessories for the woman over 50. This is before...

Sunday I stay home and try to get lots done before the week starts. Exciting stuff like laundry, ironing, cleaning closets etc. So this is what I would wear for a day at home doing chores. I’m wearing my new Metro Leggings from Soft Surroundings which are very comfortable! I’ve paired them with an Eileen Fisher T-shirt with an asymmetrical hem and well-worn comfort shoes by Merrill. Nothing fancy, just comfy and casual.

Adding accessories is important for the woman over fifty to look put together.

The first thing I add is jewelry and long sleeve cardigan. These earrings and necklace are artisan pieces I bought at a craft fair, years ago. They’re whimsical and soft, with a translucent quality. Because their color is pale I can get away with both necklace and earrings.

ddition of accessories and change of shoes take change this casual outfit to semi dressy.

I changed into my Arche shoes and added a bracelet for a bit more polish.

The addition of accessories and a change of shoes makes this casual outfit stylish, not sloppy

I transferred a few things into a smaller handbag and I’m ready to go. This is casual, very comfortable and not underdressed for a dinner out. It’s my Style Sweet Spot for a relaxing celebration in a casual restaurant.

Now lets pop over to see how Pam Lutrell hits her Style Sweet Spot!

How do you keep your casual outfit from looking frumpy?

Well, I never have to worry about not going to restaurants because I’m a truly horrible cook! ;)!! But we do get in a take out habit including curbside pick ups where you don’t even have to get out of the car. So … yeah …. I like to dress up to go out too! Love this casual look! Excited about your new serious with Pam. You two are such icons and inspirations. Lady, we really need to have a little blogger meet up soon!

Thanks so much for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday!

It’s very cute. But I’ll just say this–you look INCREDIBLE in color. I think that I like you less in black and more when there’s color near your beautiful face. And of course, I’m way impressed that you carry off sleeveless so beautifully. You always look great.

It’s all in the camera angle Carol 🙂 Thanks so much. I do wear a lot of black, but the older I get the more soft color I try to wear near my aging face.

You look great – love the artisan jewelry, love your backdrop too – and don’t you just adore daughters? They’re wise beyond their years and always looking out for their mom.

I like all the flowy details of the tops with the “closer to the body” leggings. Looks slimming and modern. You have polished it a bit more with the jewelry choices, which are perfect in their lighter, feminine detail. Just a great look for dinner out! I think adding heels always elevates a casual look.

    • Jennifer
      February 16, 2016 / 12:42 am

Thanks Karen. Yes, the wider over narrow is an important consideration for me because my shoulders are so wide. These are about as high a heel as I can wear and usually only do it if I plan on spending a lot of time sitting down.

The Metro Legging is our most popular pant at Soft Surroundings and you are demonstrating why…you look great in them! I love the top as well…such a nice choice. Happy Valentine’s Day!

I love these Metro leggings! I want them in every color now.

Don’t you love having adult daughters to “help” your husband? We exchange cards & that’s about it. That necklace is lovely. Looking great as always.
