Victoria In The Fall- What I Wore

Travel has been seriously curtailed lately so we feel very blessed to have enjoyed a quick trip to Victoria. Having finished out 14-day quarantine, we were primed and ready to get some serious fresh air. We took a quick, 90-minute ferry ride from Vancouver (Tsawwassen) through the Strait of Georgia to Victoria (Swartz Bay). It’s a beautiful sail passing Galiano, Mayne, Salt Spring, North Pender, and Prevost  Islands. If you plan to go up on deck,  bring a jacket and when they announce they’ll be blowing the ships horn, cover your ears!

We stayed at the lobby of Magnolia Hotel in Victoria, BCWe had a cozy fireplace in our room with an easy chair that looked out over the city. Our stay included a yummy continental breakfast that they delivered to our room each morning. The Magnolia is walking distance to Murchie’s Tea house, Munro Books, the wharf, and lots of fabulous restaurants.

The first day we wandered along the wharf, soaking up the atmosphere, and ended up at Thunderbird Park. It’s a must-see little gem across the street from the Empress. It has an impressive collection of Totem poles and other First Nations monuments.

For dinner, we decided traditional fish & chips were in order so we headed over to The Irish Times Pub. I switched out my denim jacket for a long blazer and my sneakers for black booties. This blazer has been an amazing workhorse in my wardrobe on this trip so I think I will keep my eye out for one in another color.

I highly recommend taking a scenic drive from Victoria up the coast to Oak Bay, and beyond. We started from Beacon Hill Park and headed north on Dallas Rd. The house watching is almost as fun as the ocean views. I switched into comfy sneakers for a stroll on the beach which made my jeans just a bit too long:)tea and scone at Murchies

One of the highlights of my visit to Victoria was having tea at Murchie’s with one of my very favorite bloggers. I’ve been reading Leslie who writes Hostess of the Humble Bungalow for years! She shares snippets of her life and adventures in retirement along with great recipes and terrific books. She’s such a chic, gracious lady, I look forward to spending more time with her on our next trip to Victoria.

I’m so glad we got to explore Victoria in more depth. It’s a great little city with a casual, friendly vibe and very friendly people.

  1. It’s been quite some time since we’ve been to Victoria but this post really wants me to go back. Maybe after Covid restrictions are lifted more. Loved high tea at the Empress!

We talked about a trip to Victoria for our anniversary earlier this month as it’s years since we’ve been there, but with the current upswing in Covid cases, we were leery about flying. We chose a bed and breakfast close to home instead. Thank you for the tiny taste of Victoria! I’m sure we’ll get there again someday.

  3. We always drop into London Times for lunch as well as visit the Irish store down the street. I need to try the tea store on our next trip. I also like shopping for shoes since some of the brands carried in Canada we don’t see in the U.S.

  4. Went to Victoria way back in the ‘70’s! It was so wonderful that we determined not to return lest we spoil our wonderful memories! 😆
You make me want to return again. The highlight of our trip was the Provincial Museum. The dioramas and replications of provincial life were just amazing!

  5. SWELL! She belongs to Maple Leaf Adventures, a wonderful boutique eco-touring company out of Victoria. We took a trip through the Gulf Islands on Swell a couple of years ago, and last year we had a trip to Great Bear with the same company but on a different boat. Highly recommended.

Also recommend the spa at the Magnolia, though we usually stay at the Oswego. Sigh. Some day we’ll be back.

Where were you coming from? I thought you were in Canada already and wouldn’t have to quarantine?

    1. I had to quarantine a second time when my husband joined me.

  8. Victoria is also on my bucket list once we can travel again. Thanks for sharing.

  9. After reading a bio of artist Emily Carr, I was inspired to visit Vancouver Island. We took the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria and spent a lovely long weekend there. I had picked up a lovely knit cap at the craft market in Port Angeles and was glad I had it on the chilly ferry ride! I remember seeing Thunderbird Park, the floating village and having fish and chips at a stand near there. I’m enjoying your visit!

    1. We’ve taken that ferry many times. Hopefully it will all calm down so we can get back to life as we love it.

  14. So happy that you are out of quarantine once more. I love the trip down memory lane. It was just last year that we were in Victoria and it feels like years at this point. I know exactly where you were standing to take the picture of parliment buildings and Thunderbird park as well as the Irish Pub. You have made my morning with memories of such a beautiful trip. Next time we are going to rent a car to explore the island in more depth….and there will be a next time someday. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Love Victoria. I visited there once in late July, so it was a bit warmer. I love the layering you did with the sweater and the jacket etc. I am going to start looking for some cashmere sweaters. I always buy them for my husband but do not indulge for myself. They are so soft and warm even though they are so thin – I think its time to invest in one for me.
