What To Wear While Social Distancing

What To Wear While Social Distancing

Happy Friday ladies. We’ve almost made it to the weekend! I hope you’re feeling well and hopeful. During these uncertain times, I plan to have A Well Styled Life be a positive spot to come and chat about life, fashion and things that matter to us. There are tons of places you can go to get bad news, but not here.

Today, I want to talk about something we do need to guard against. Letting things slide. The longer this social distancing lasts the easier it becomes to let our appearance nose dive. It can become all too easy to just toss on comfy clothes and call it a day. After all, since we’re confined at home, no one will see us. And while it may feel easy to hang around in sweats or jammies you need to be aware that as our dressing standards slip, our confidence can go with it.

I put together 4 looks you could easily wear at home now, then out and about when things get back to normal.

casual outfits for self distancing

I styled these all around the T Talbots Relaxed Leg Yoga pants that I have on order. They can dress up or down and are perfect for hanging around the house. These are deep gray and they also come in black or indigo.

No matter what you wear, remember to add your accessories. We add them to finish our outfits, add polish, delight our senses and make unique statements with our appearance. Inherited pieces hold precious memories of loved ones. The treasures we’re picked up on our travels remind us of fun times in wonderful places.

Adding accessories to your outfit is not for other people’s benefit to see when you’re out and about. They’re the finishing touch to help you look, and more importantly, feel confident.

What accessories are you forgetting to wear that you could add to your social distancing outfits?

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

Please be safe, kind and patient. It’s a tough time for everyone.

xx

I absolutely love the Colourblock Half Button Pullover, but living in Canada, I won’t order from Talbots. Many American retailers now use a service called Borderfree, but Talbots isn’t one of them. Borderfree allows us to shop in Canadian dollars, but more importantly shipping is fast and inexpensive and there isn’t an additional charge for Canadian taxes and duties. Talbot uses FedEx and the extra fees that are added are prohibitive. Even on sale, it just isn’t worth it. 🙁 There are a few Talbots stores in Canada now, but none close to me.

Well, this is inspiring but so far I’m still living in my housework clothes. Its so cold where I live that a beanie, a full coat with a hood and sunglasses are keeping my secret from my fellow social distancing walkers. It is a great opportunity to wear diamond earrings though. They go with everything, even housework. 😊

I had to laugh because diamonds do go with everything 😂

Lipstick! My mother ALWAYS wore lipstick, even when she wasn’t setting foot outside the house. I do feel well put-together when I wear it but forget most of the time. When I DO remember to put it on I always get an appreciative double-take from my husband, who thinks I’ve put it on just for him (I don’t tell him the truth — that it’s for me — as it seems to make his day 🙂 ). What IS missing these days are my rings. I usually wear 4 silver rings/hand & have for many years but it’s too difficult to juggle them & the constant washing & use of hand sanitizer, so they’ve come off & I guess will stay off until life gets back to what passes for normal. And I’ll be cutting my own hair as my usual salon has closed. Or I could go the route my husband took years ago when he started losing his hair: he shaves his head & scares the daylights out of people because with his height & tats & Harley he looks more like an outlaw biker than the engineer he is. LOL! It’ll be interesting to see what our “new” normals will even be when this is all over.

I’ve taken my rings off too. I was concerned if I took them off every time I washed up that I’d go off and leave them and they’d end up in the garbage disposal or drain. If I leave them on the soap doesn’t rinse out under them properly and my fingers get a rash. I think it’s better not to wear them for now. Given that I’m at home all the time with my husband I don’t think anyone is going to think I’m trying to not look married 🙂

Wonderful article – I admit I have been wearing lounge pants and pajama tops and T-shirts with PJ bottoms so it is time to dress for success as they say. I will be conducting some webinars this week so this was a timely message for me. I also forget to use jewelry and tend to skip makeup but even if it’s just some tinted moisturizer I think it helps. Your articles are a sunny spot in a busy day working online and a spark of light as I negotiate anxiety since I have asthma.

Thanks so much for the great post!
I’m going to be like Connie & try to stop wearing so much black.
I may change over my closet from winter to spring clothes this next week .
After I get my windows cleaned!
I love my Lulu Lemon pants that sounds similar to the Talbot ones.
    Comfy but still look good.

I always dress with accessories and makeup before I leave my bedroom. During these stressful times, I have decided to eliminate wearing black and purposefully pull out florals and bright colors. I am now watching my young grandchildren. My daughter is a nurse and her husband must work from home starting today. My oldest daughter also needs reprieve from working at home while her husband, a paramedic, does double shifts. Retired, and living off our investments means I now ignore the financial news. Our physical health and our mental health need all our attention. Since California is in lock down, we are fortunate to not have underlying conditions and by necessity still see our family. This crisis has impacted us more than many. I know keeping a positive outlook, presence, and attitude is vital to everyone’s wellbeing. We were anticipating Europe in April, now we look forward to returning to normal.

Things are very stressful. Working in the medical field is scary these days but I’m so very grateful they’re able to help those in need. They’re heros! It sounds like you gave your hands full too. It’s wonderful you can help them out.

Twp things that always make my day better: making my bed and getting dressed! “Dressed” usually means leggings and a tunic top. Nothing fancy but I do try for flattering and comfortable. I’m ready for consistent spring weather so I can put away my long-sleeved tops! I’m thankful I had a haircut yesterday! I do need to go get gas and a few grocery items, so I’ll be making a trip to Sam’s Club today. Their Scan’n Go app means less direct contact with other customers and the staff. I went to Trader Joe’s yesterday and they are doing what they can to make shopping a good experience by limiting the number of people in the store at one time. I had to wait a few minutes but it made shopping so much less stressful. Another nice surprise, they gave everyone leaving the store a little bundle of daffodils! There were some empty canned good shelves but they had what I needed After I go to Sam’s I’ll be set for staying in for the next week at least. Stay safe everyone!

I’m so glad I had my hair cut & highlighted last week, just before everything crumbled. I’m good for six weeks and hopefully we will be back to normal activities by then.

I’ve been keeping busy making changes in my garden and walking my dog twice a day. If one good thing comes out of this, I might lose a couple of pounds by getting in an afternoon walk.

Today is the first day of Spring! 💐 This weekend I’m going to switch over my closet from winter to spring. Now, that is a positively delightful chore.

    Stay home, stay healthy!

I got my hair cut last week, too. A nurse struck up a conversation at a social distance, and I thanked him for what he does. How will nurses have time to get their hair cut in the coming months, and what will be open?

Then the stylist told me that they go hours between haircuts, because no one is showing up. They’re losing income. She also said that she works part-time at a hospital, so she is going to be busy from that, but also possibly exposed to risk.

So many pepple are at risk from the pathogen and economically. It seems almost impossible to determine how people get sick now, because it’s too widespread now.

Thanks for the upbeat post. We had an Egypt trip planned for April. This week I put on the cute new sun hat, flowy midi dress (that I bought for the trip) and took the dog for a walk. Getting dressed up was positive. I’ve also served our dinners on the lanai this week. I live in southwest florida so the weather is nice for long walks. The beaches in several counties here have been closed but we can still walk outside.

If you are considering purchasing the T Talbots Relaxed Yoga Pants – don’t dither, they are marvelous! I bought 3 pairs last fall and have felt warm (Ottawa Canada) and comfortable around the waistline. They still look great. I was wondering if their fit would disappear after washing them. Nothing changed. I always felt great in them, wore them to work – dressing up the top half of my body. Felt elegant. Hoping for a summertime version.

Love the outfits you put together! That’s so how I like to dress. We finally have nice enough weather to go for a walk. I got showered and put together for that. It felt wonderful! Planning on that every day that weather permits. I get my hair cut once a month also. Thinking this might be a good chance to see how it grows out. I guess date night is going to the grocery store now.

Thank you for being positive. My husband and I are riding our bikes through our new neighborhood we just moved into. Staying in touch with our family everyday if we can or we will call someone to talk to and make sure they are ok. Scary times but I do agree that we need to look our best no matter what and be ready for anything. We lost everything in a fire two years ago so we know now to have the things we need to take …quickly!

I am fortunate to live in sunny Florida. So this is a great time to exercise by going for walks in my community instead of the treadmill at the gym. Thanks for the recommendation to dress while social distancing. I confess that I am not doing that. However, because I was going out yesterday I made it a point to choose an outfit that I wanted to wear, put on full makeup, styled my hair, put on jewelry. Wow! Did that feel good!

Speaking of hair, I feel like I may end up looking like the wicked witch of the west. My hair is short , thick and grows fast . I visit the salon once a moth to keep it tip top. Now this looks like it won’t happen. Thank goodness I no longer have it coloured!

I went to my hairdresser today as he has a large salon and works by himself. All went well until (my hair was almost finished) he told me he had a headache and sore throat 2 days earlier, but was denied a swab to test for coronavirus. Fortunately, he was now asymptomatic and never had a fever and didn’t have the virus but it made me realize not everyone (the hairdresser) will stay home ‘just in case’. Better than the sandwich shop I stopped in on my way to the salon and ordered a baguette. All went well until I saw the lad making the baguette not wearing didposable gloves or using tongs during its preparation. I asked the boss why the food handler was putting his bare hands all over my baguette – she was most indignant arguing that hand washing was sufficient and refunded me my $16. Today’s experiences have convinced me to stay put at home. Sorry for ranting.

Just heard an interview on npr morning edition about a woman who just recovered from COVID-19. In February she had lunch with a few friends feeling fine. Symptoms the next day, 4 of them ended up sick. No one seemed sick at the time, they didn’t touch each other, but several managed to get sick. She’s fine now, but this is nothing to mess with. She reported the progression of her symptoms that lasted 2 weeks.

Thanks Jennifer. I hope your recent rtests turned out to be OK. I am worried about sister who is a nurse in Nashua NH.
