Comfy and Soft

I may be a bit old school… well, wait. Now that I think about it, I’m old school about a lot of things. I believe in:

  • handwritten thank you notes
  • opening or holding the door open for others
  • saying excuse me when I sneeze
  • speaking politely to everyone
  • modesty

I also believe a bra should do three things.

  1. Be invisible under our clothes, see modesty above:)
  2. Provide the support our breasts need to perk them up and correct any sagging
  3. Not dig into our shoulders, bind around the rib cage, or allow breasts to bubble over the top. In short, be so comfy you forget you have it on.

This post is sponsored by Soma who I am proud to support because they’re a company that supports women through a wonderful program you can read about here.

In order for bras to do these things, they need to fit you properly. When was the last time you had a professional bra fitting? If it wasn’t within the last year, you owe it to yourself to get one. A change in weight by as little as 5 pounds can affect how your bras fit. If they’re too loose, they can’t give you the support you need, and if too tight, they feel like torture devices about 2 hours into your day.

Pretty lacey bras are gorgeous to look at but not through your T-shirt. Again, see modesty above. I prefer a smooth look and like a bra with enough body to prevent things from showing through if I get a chill.

This Enbliss Wireless Bra does just that with a brushed fabric that feels fabulous against your skin. The elastic straps are exceptionally comfy, move when you do, and never dig into your shoulders. The Enbliss collection has bras with or without underwire in styles to work under all your clothes.

I think I need this tank for next summer. It’s perfect for layering.

I just popped over to the website and discovered that Soma has its Cool Night’s® Pajama sets marked down to $49 right now. I expect this set and this set to sell out fast because…leopard print. This teal set may need to be mine because it’s one of my most flattering colors. I shared why it’s important to choose colors in sleepwear that flatter you, here.

Can we just talk about this robe for a moment? It’s warm, fuzzy, soft and cozy. Perfect for cool weather. I love the Dove color because it’s flattering to my complexion. The pattern also helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles on my face and neck, the same way texture does. You can read why and how here.

When was your last bra fitting?

Do you prefer underwire or no underwire?

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident!

I love Soma’s lounging items, they mix and match beautifully and come in tall sizes. They’re my go-to in the evening after work. Love their undies too! Their bras leave me….meh. They’re lined in foam, which I don’t find comfortable at all, and my husband says feels “yucky” when giving a hug from the back 🙂
I do have their unlined front-hook racer-back bras, but they need some help from Hollywood Cover-Ups for modesty.

Totally unrelated to the subject but in the bedroom picture on your dresser is what looks like an antique box with drawers. Is that how you store your jewelry?
    Thanks

    1. It’s an antique pharmacists cabinet which I inherited from my mom. She bought it over 50 years ago from a local Canadian antique store. I was with her and remember it vividly. She was so excited to find it.
My mom kept her sewing threads in it. I used to but now I keep some of my costume jewelry in it. I adore it for many reasons.

  3. I just had a bra fitting and call me crazy but I disagreed with the band size she suggested, it just felt too tight so I moved up one. LOL. I didn’t notice more support than than the sports bra I wore in there. Don’t get me wrong, I highly recommend a bra fitting but maybe get a second opinion before you buy. The bra we settled on was pricey but the fitting was free so I felt I should buy one. So, maybe it pays to try more than one place for a fitting.
I love the robe. Nothing I like better than coming home, getting in my robe and having tea. I couldn’t live without a robe.

    1. I’ve had that experience too Eve! I hate being crushed by a small band size.
I always recommend we listen to our own intuition. It’s usually right. I’m sitting in my robe with a cup of herb tea right now! Nothing better.

  4. Enjoy Soma products because of fit and quality!

  5. I totally agree with your old school thoughts, wish more people practice that…. I just ordered a soma robe, can’t wait to try it. ??

    1. Those old school manners kept our society gracious and elegant. Xx

  6. Thanks for reminding me how much I like my Cool Nights pajama set from Soma. Just ordered another one, thanks to your post. I love the feel and weight of the fabric. It is soft, but somehow manages not to be too clingy or too baggy. My favorite piece is the pajama wrap or robe, which can be worn with or without a belt.

    1. I love their full length nightgowns too. One started as a dress but is now my favorite for feeling cozy and stylish.

  7. Love Soma nightgowns and PJs. They make me feel pretty, even with no makeup! I also am a big believer in handwritten thank you notes and love personalized stationery and a good pen…we are sadly a dying breed. Jennifer, I have been a regular at my local gym for years, but I started Pilates about 6 months ago too. It is amazing what it is doing for my body…I’m actually seeing muscle definition!! Keep it up!

    1. Thanks for the encouragement! Pilates is not for sissies. I hope some of our younger generation will step up. I know I trained my children to do what is polite. I’m keeping hope for our future generation.

  8. All of my bras have been underwire for years, but I want to try this one without. If they have enough support (DDD), I would love to have a bra without wire. And we have a Soma store nearby, so I’m probably due for a fitting.

Yes to all of your “old school” standards. The world would be a better place if more people had them. 🙂

    1. I’m not as well endowed as you are, so will have different needs. Let me know how it goes.

  9. Just went to Soma a couple of months ago to get and updated fitting. Their bras and comfortable and pretty. They cost a little more than some places but this is the one thing I prefer not to bargain shop for. And I love that you mentioned modesty. When did showing everything become the rage? It shouldn’t be!

  10. I have never been fitted and hate shopping for bras. I am extremely small chested and have yet to find something that fits and is comfortable. Do they make training bras for 60+ women? 🙂

    1. Yes, in fact, they do. I have them, not from Soma but I am going to Soma as soon as I can.

Love Soma! I wear their bra’s, panties, pajamas! Such great quality and service!

Enjoyed your blog today. No underwire for me and I guess I am lucky. At nearly 69, my breasts still do not sag or bag. But years ago I had the unfortunate incident of a wire poking through my clothes. Decided then and there to go wireless for bras and have never looked back. If you are not comfy, it is so not worth it! Haven’t tried Soma, don’t know of they are in Canada but I will search them out. A year ago I found a supersoft robe at Walmart in stripes of grey and white and I love it! It is a comfort zone item for sure! Thanks for sharing and informing!
      Have a great week!

      1. Ouch! I’ve had that happen too. Have a great week Susan

Love your selections today and being “old school” myself, I totally appreciate your comments!

So funny…..I just ordered my daughter’s annual Christmas pajamas yesterday from SOMA, the black top and leopard bottom. She is 50 years old, but still gets pajamas every year from her mamma and she LOVES the cool nights fabrics.

  14. I totally agree about the regular bra fittings. Suddenly your straps are falling, etc. while I love the look of that comfy robe, I find I don’t need one. When the kids were small, if I didn’t get up and shower and dress before hubby left for work, I could be in my bathrobe until noon. So for more years than I can count, my routine is always dress before I come down in the morning.

  15. Soma rocks! I won’t go anywhere else anymore. I will be honest, for awhile, their prices kept me at bay. However, like the boys say, you gotta have the right tools to do the job right. I believe their wireless does everything for me that wired used to….with so much more comfort. And i even have some minor issues with symmetry after BC in 2009, their line corrects that for me, and has restored confidence to the point i can wear some styles of tops that i had given up on.
