Would You Wear It: Bow, Blazer, and Skinny

Would You Wear It: Bow, Blazer, and Skinny

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. It’s time for would you wear it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we have found and ask our readers if they would wear what it’s wearing. We do this to better understand your fashion preferences and how you like to style things.

I only do this because we are discussing clothes worn by a dummy. They have no feelings. I strongly believe it’s not kind, healthy or productive for women to critique or pick apart what another woman is wearing. Even under the guise of giving advice and helping out.

The whole spirit of this blog is to support women in making fashion choices that boost their confidence and self-worth. Unless a woman specifically asks for style advice, it’s best to keep our opinions to ourselves. Let’s build each other up which makes us all stronger.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this and why or why not?

  • Does it fit your shape and lifestyle?
  • Does the color make you look like you have the flu?
  • How would you style it to make it work for you?

Please be tactful in your comments because what one woman hates, another woman loves.

Here are some weekend sale updates-

Loft – layers to love under $35

Talbots–  new sweaters buy one get one 50% off with the code cozy. This split new tunic is gorgeous in Ivory. It would be great over velvet leggings this holiday season. I tried this chenille sweater on in Orchid yesterday and ordered it in my size:) Here’s a pretty animal print sweater in pink! I don’t see that often and love it.

 J.Crew – 30% off women’s, men’s, and kid’s wear-now styles, on-line only with the code SOGOOD.

Ann Taylor – 30% off full-priced pants and denim.

J.Jill – $100 off your purchase of $250 or $50 off $150 purchase with the code INSTYLE.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a dressing room diaries from Talbots. It’s filled with some beautiful pieces.

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing here.

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

not for me…the texture of the blazer is too bulky…that particular wash of denim, just looks dirty. i dont wear bows anymore, however in my younger days, some of my favorite blouses had that style. i like the print of the blouse on the left though. and the accent on the bottom of the jeans to the left.

Love it all! That blue is divine!

Yes I would definitely wear that outfit! To fit in with my lifestyle I’d probably dress it up with white accessories-a white belt, hat, shades, hat, sneakers and bag. I’m 5’8” and weigh about 120 pounds so the clothing fits my frame as well.

Actually the color of the blazer and blouse are perfect for me. I would probably tie the blouse differently, probably leaving it longer so that the v shows more. I like the color of the jeans but not sure I would like the fit. Would definitely try the outfit on if I saw it.

Like the outfit especially the colours..Blouse very seventies but all good..

    • November 2, 2019 / 10:45 am

The blouse gives me that vibe too but I’m thinking I would wear it untied

  5. Cindy
    November 2, 2019 / 6:47 am

I like the blouse, but I would tie it lower, to emphasize the V neckline. I like the jacket, but I’d have to try it on to see if it was comfy & not too stiff.
I actually prefer the mannequin on the right & would definitely wear that outfit.

I love it and would wear it proudly!

  7. November 2, 2019 / 6:59 am

I would walk by this display because the color and print do not appeal to me. The shape of the jacket is good and I love wearing jackets with jeans. But in a different color with a different blouse. Happy Saturday!!

    • November 2, 2019 / 11:17 am

Color is so important in what appeals and doesn’t appeal

I would wear the blazer and the jeans, not the blouse, too frumpy. The color is beautiful and one I don’t have much of in my wardrobe. I would prefer the outfit on the right (turtleneck and jeans) over the blazer however.

    • November 2, 2019 / 11:19 am

For many, it is a retro style that feels chic. What about the blouse would make you feel frumpy Susan.

I like the colour and style of the blazer and I like the skinny jeans. I am not fussy on the print blouse and do not wear bows anymore. Too fiddly!

Love the bow and the blazer. (In fact I’m looking for a satin bow blouse right now for an event.) My leg shape looks better with a straight jean than a skinny, but I love the overall look! ❤️

    • November 2, 2019 / 11:21 am

Satin would be so pretty. I’ll keep an eye out for you

Oh, I love this outfit and I would definitely wear it. The color of the jacket is perfect for me. The small print of the blouse fits me better than large florals. The jacket would cover my baby roll belly and the slim jeans would emphasize my slim legs. The bow could be tied lower to give me the V-neck I like with my large girls. This is a look that I could wear and feel great about myself.

Great ideas Phyllis! Thanks for sharing.

I like the print on the blouse but don’t like bows on blouses. They have never looked good on me. I think the jeans are too dark for my taste-they also look a little too legging for me. While I like the teal color, I prefer to do it in accents rather than a whole blazer.

  14. Donna
    November 2, 2019 / 7:38 am

I love this whole outfit. I love the color and fit of the jacket. The blouse is beautiful and I love the wash of the jeans as it lengthens and slims my bottom half. You could wear the three pieces with so many other things.

I love the overall look of this outfit and it suits my style. I’d wear booties, loafers, heels or sneakers with it. I wear jeans like this every day to work (high school). I’d also swap out the blazer for a cardigan if I didn’t want to wear the blazer. I have similar blouses, sans bow, and they’re a comfortable but nice looking alternative to my usual cashmere pullovers. High school students like my look and so do my colleagues, and so do I!

    • November 2, 2019 / 11:24 am

That’s awesome Karen! You’ve found a formula that makes you happy.

I would love to wear a blazer, but I don’t think they’re the best choice for my busty figure. I suspect that the colors of the blouse are prettier than they appear in the photograph but still too muted for my coloring, as is the blazer. I’m sure this is because I have gone through several fashion cycles in my lifetime, but a blouse with a bow just seems dated to me. Oh, all right, I didn’t like them the first time around.

The jeans look great. I love the dark wash and no whiskering, thank you. I would be wearing them with a striped T and a boyfriend cardigan, preferably red.

I really like the combination of colors. I would prefer the blouse to be a silky tee, and would like the jacket to fit a bit closer to my body.

I love the overall look of this outfit. I really love the colour of the blouse and blazer. I would pair it with the same colour pants but not as tight as shown.

    November 2, 2019 / 7:47 am

I love the color of the blazer; it happens to be one of my better colors. As others have said, I would tie the blouse a bit lower to get a v-neck look. I own a number of dark jeans and would definitely pair it with one of them. I’m curious about the length of the blouse when it’s untucked. Not too many prints appeal to me but this one may look pretty with a pink cardigan as well. Good look for SoCal!

    • November 2, 2019 / 11:26 am

It’s one of my best colors too

  20. November 2, 2019 / 7:48 am

Adorable. I love the concept and think it is very flattering and attractive. I like darker colors, so I would go for the look in a darker print blouse and blazer, but I think anyone who is blond or red-headed would look fabulous in this exact outfit. Usually, these mannequins are a miss for me, but this one is lovely.

Oooh! This whole groupingwould catch my eye. The pants on the left, the one behind has an intriguing top. I love skinny jeans so I would try the whole outfit… but might need a stronger blue. I love the top on the left with bigger print/stronger colour. I’m afraid I’d do a lot of damage to my wallet lol

    • November 2, 2019 / 11:27 am

Lol, that kind of damage just feels so good to wear 🙂

Love everything ex the bow (too much time travel for me). In many aspects this outfit is hanging in my closet

  23. Janet
    November 2, 2019 / 7:57 am

LOVE IT! No animal prints or cropped pants! I could wear this to work or anywhere and the color of the blazer lightens the outfit up.

  24. Karen
    November 2, 2019 / 8:18 am

I notice the jackets are usually spread open to display the layer underneath, which makes it harder for me to tell whether it wearing it would make me look wider in the waist. I like the overall look, would likely wear it unless that.

  25. Dawn
    November 2, 2019 / 8:37 am

I like the outfit on the right…love the sweater color and straight leg jeans. I might wear the blazer, (gorgeous color) but the jeans are too skinny and the top too fussy for me.

  26. Carolyn Ewell
    November 2, 2019 / 8:38 am

I like the look on the mannequin but I think the blouse is sloppy looking the way they have it tied and the blazer hanging open.I don’t wear my shirts tucked into my jeans or wear skinny jean even though my legs are small. I prefer the turtleneck look with jeans and a sweater or blazer. The color combination work.

  27. Pat
    November 2, 2019 / 8:39 am

I like the overall look of blazer, blouse, and jeans and wear this combination often. I wear both skinny jeans and straight-leg jeans. I would definitely try the jeans. I don’t like blouses with ties much as they seem too fussy for me. I do love the print in this blouse and would buy if it were a simple tank or tee style blouse. I like the blazer color, but it seems a bit bulky to me. I would try it on and see how it fit. I am getting more picky with blazers and feel they have to hang well. I have recently tried on several blazers and not purchased or returned them because they were bulky and did not hang properly. I have a couple of nice winter blazers in gray and black tones and wear with print blouses and tops. I might add a belt and heels.

    November 2, 2019 / 8:39 am

I had a guy I liked once refer to this type of blouse as my school marm look so have always avoided it. I love the color though. The pants are not for me. I like high waist, straight leg jeans. I don’t like tight but that’s just probably showing my age. I love Blazers but my style leans more toward the casual so I’m usually in a bomber style or at least an unfitted type of loose jacket. I adore long cardigans right now.

  29. Eileen
    November 2, 2019 / 8:46 am

I like this color, it’s nice to see warm winter items in colors other than black and animal prints. I have a blazer very similar to this, depending on the thickness of the fabric, I would wear it, the drape/ hand is sometimes too stiff and thick, so I would have to try it on. I like the small scale print on myself, but I find the fabrics in synthetic blouses uncomfortable, so I’ve stopped buying them, so a no. I prefer a straighter leg jean, so a no.

  30. Barb
    November 2, 2019 / 8:52 am

I would definitely wear this ensemble except probably not the blouse. Love the blazer except perhaps a little shorter would be nice but love the color, which I wear often. I would probably wear it with a t-shirt and a little wedge shoe. I do wear skinny jeans but straight or bootcut would look great with this too!

  31. Linda
    November 2, 2019 / 9:11 am

The first thing I see when looking at this photo is how wide this jacket makes the model appear. It’s bizarrely big compared to the legs.

Not sure if buttoning the jacket would even help as it’s a problem that this jacket is conjuring up. The model is thin. Perhaps a longer jacket in a darker color would resolve this illusion.

The shirt is fine as are the skinny jeans.

So no, I would not wear this as I am not model skinny and this combo would make me appear as out of proportion as this model.

This is cute. I would wear it. The colors suit me, the texture and print bring attention to the upper body, so count me in.

    November 2, 2019 / 9:37 am

As am partial to blue (and can wear almost any shade of it); YES I would wear all pieces. That said; though I do have several herringbone weaved blazers in similar cuts I would prefer this jacket to have more buttons which would give the option of having a lace or silk trimmed camisole peeking out when the jacket is done up adding a feminine touch much like the printed floral blouse does. Also regarding the tie of the blouse; like a few others suggested I would be looping it lower to accent the v-neck. As for the dark blue denim jeans; they are perfect for our Fall/Winter climate however I would be trying them on as might prefer a higher waist version but on the most part; I do give all pieces a ‘two thumbs’ up for myself. -BRENDA-
P.S.: I often pair this type of blazer and skinny leg jeans with a non-tucked in but skinny belted, full turtle neck sweater and high shafted leather boots, for a town ‘n country casual look as well.

  35. November 2, 2019 / 9:52 am

Love it! The colors are wonderful, the blouse is not too, too frilly, just a normal loose styling bow, great blazer! Yes, it would be great on my body type. I wear these jeans nearly half the days of the week (retired)! And, the sweater with ties at sleeve is great too! Love this weeks mannequins!

Wouldn’t change a thing except maybe the way in which the blazer was placed on the mannequin shoulders…..a bit off?

  36. Janice
    November 2, 2019 / 9:57 am

I like this look. I love the color and I also love blazers. I would probably wear a boot cut as I am pear shaped and skinnies are not my best look.

I love the color mix of this outfit, particularly the color of the blazer. There is such great mix of textures here which makes this a wonderfully interesting outfit.

I always wear a belt with my tucked-in shirts, so I’d add one here. Other than that, it’s all good!!

  38. Sue G
    November 2, 2019 / 10:11 am

My initial reaction is positive- the jacket and jeans look polished and pulled together. While I normally would not wear the smaller floral print on this blouse, the overall look would make me look to see what other prints are available or I would find a narrow gauge sweater in a color similar to the jean’s wash to wear under the jacket with a printed scarf – longer line which would work better on my shorter frame.

  39. Connie
    November 2, 2019 / 10:20 am

100% score…this would stop me dead in my tracks. The jacket is the right length, heavy enough to wear alone in our fall weather, but still fine cut close to the body. The blouse has a mini print which is flattering and the bow can be worn as a long knot or low bow. The jeans on a mannequin, I consider non specific, which means wear this with jeans that flatter you, not just THESE jeans. Turquoise and aqua are flattering colors on every complexion and I always seek out these colors for my wardrobe. Now…where do I find this!

  40. Lisa
    November 2, 2019 / 10:23 am

I would definitely wear it. I’m petite and always liked feminine clothes but the cool jeans and tailored look keep me away from the prissy grandma look. I might like it in a different color because I tend to look better in more vibrant, clear colors but it is s pretty color anyway.

  41. MP
    November 2, 2019 / 10:52 am

I would wear the blazer in navy – not the color shown. The top has long sleeves — I would prefer it sleeveless under a blue blazer or jean jacket. No to the jeans. I don’t wear skinny jeans ever. A nice pair of dark wash stright leg jeans would look cute with the top.

    • November 2, 2019 / 8:39 pm

  42. Linda

I’d wear the blouse and jacket, but not the skinny jeans. I like the color of the print and jacket.

  43. Carol
    November 2, 2019 / 11:13 am

Both outfits would come home with me except the jeans, prefer straight leg. The colors are wonderful and quite versatile with other pieces in my closet.

Blazers tend to make me look too boxy. I prefer an unstructured type overpiece/jacket.
Even on the model the blazer looks big.

  45. SHerry
    November 2, 2019 / 2:35 pm

LOve the color and this is pretty much how I dress for work. I think I would have to tie the bow differntly and the blazer’s fabric appears a little stiff with the other pieces.

  46. Becky
    November 2, 2019 / 5:11 pm

I would definitely wear the blazer & jeans. I love the color on the blazer, & jeans with a blazer is one of my go to looks. I’m not sure about the blouse. Perhaps if it was tied differently, I would try it. Tied as pictured, it just looks a bit off to me.

  47. Darlene
    November 2, 2019 / 6:37 pm

This is exactly my style and colors – jeans with a blazer. I wear a dressier top, like the bowed blouse, for work. For a more casual look I would wear a tee.

  48. Karen
    November 2, 2019 / 6:43 pm

Blazers do not work for me. I think I need more flow and less classic. I do love the colors.

  49. Penelope
    November 3, 2019 / 5:56 am

I like the blazer… color, style and especially the herringbone texture. I also like the style of the blouse. The busy floral pattern isn’t for me but bec the style is flattering for me I might just try it on. So often things surprise me once I try them.
The skinny jeans are just not great on me.. unless my thighs are well concealed. Some women don’t mind the thigh reveal but I’m self conscious.

  50. Amie K
    November 3, 2019 / 12:32 pm

I love the look of jeans and a blazer and always feel well put together when I wear it. It’s the right balance of classic and casual for me. That being said, those colours don’t work for me. I’d prefer the blazer in a classic grey herringbone with a solid coloured blouse and a patterned silk scarf that picks up hints of colour from the blazer and the top. With classic pearl or diamond studs to accessorize.
