Would You Wear Butterflies

Happy Saturday, ladies. It’s time for would you wear it, so grab another cup of your favorite coffee or tea and let’s have some fun with fashion. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we’ve seen and ask if you would wear what it’s modeling.

I was in Chico’s picking up some jeans I ordered and spotted this Butterfly Duster. The colors are striking so I wondered what you would think.

Orange with black? Butterfly motif?

  1. I have to agree with the “big and loud” description. Large necklaces look best on simple outfits. The dusters colors are beautiful. Just not my style.

  2. Hi Jennifer! This is a beautiful cardigan. It is for a cool color lady, and not this warm one. But, if the colors were in my wheelhouse, I would wear it!
    Have a great weekend!

  3. I really like the colors but it would be too long for me and Chicos petites are not really petites. I think all one color with it would look great. I’d switch the necklace for something smaller.

  4. I love butterflies, so the duster is something I would buy and wear. However, I would probably wear an all white – white tank and pants – under it. I think the orange tee detracts from the colorful duster.

  5. The butterfly print duster is much prettier on the mannequin than it is online! Colors seem more vibrant; maybe the different color tank? The necklace is too large for my frame but that’s an easy exchange. The duster could be a versatile addition to my wardrobe; worn like this, more casual over jeans or dressier over a sheath dress, The piece I really liked today was the linen cotton cardigan although it looks very sheer online and not on sale when I opened the link.

  6. This is a modern take on a butterfly print and I like it. I have purchased dusters and they just hung in the closet un-worn. I will not buy slub tees. They aren’t sewn straight to the fabric grain. You can see the grain going downhill. It’s a cost cutting move by the manufacturer and it just looks cheap. Won’t buy elastic waist pants either, but that’s some hang up from childhood, like high water pants!

  7. Hi
I would not wear this duster. It is too loud a color combination for my style. I want a more classic look. When I saw it I knew it had to be Chico’s. I like some more muted stuff from Chico’s , but some of there cloths scream ” I got this at Chico’s “. This is one of those items. The necklace is just to big, it seems like smaller minimal jewelry is fashionable at the molment.
    Thanks Candice

    1. I know just what you mean! Stores do have an aesthetic. Since I am the opposite of big and loud, I don’t have any Chico’s in my wardrobe.

    2. Hi Jennifer,
The scale is too big for me. The colors are nice, and I love Chicos jewelry, but they’re usually too big for my frame. I also don’t wear dusters, except a sweater in winter. It’s just not my style.

  8. I love this! I love a colorful kimono that is not too long and is kind of sheer. The colors say happy to me.

  9. Jennifer…. you are my go-to…the only post I ever read. Thank you for your finds and how to wear them.
    Linda

  10. I’m surprised but I really like the colors in this duster. I would understate the outfit with a white tank & a less dramatic necklace.

  11. Love orange, love black but only time I honestly pair them together is answering the door on Halloween … 😊. As to the duster, I do not wear them and the necklace is too overstated for my personal liking.

  12. I love the color combinations the model is wearing on the Chico’s Web site…white tank top and black pants. The orange top on the mannequin is overwhelming to my eyes, competing with the duster’s pretty print.

  13. I don’t usually wear orange but I would try that shade as it seems closer to red. I would pair it with jeans like those dark wash flared jeans you showed yesterday and substitute a smaller necklace. I don’t like large prints and I’m not a fan of dusters or long cardigans, so I would leave that out.

  14. I’m not a fan of dusters, but the print on this one is pretty, so maybe over a sheath dress that is one of the colors — blue for instance. Orange and black says autumn and Halloween to me. I don’t wear a true orange, but if I did, I’d prefer it with brown (another color not in my palette).

  15. I went into Chicos a couple of weeks ago to look at another duster and the sales assistant brought this out from the back for me to try on. I loved it and bought it to wear with jeans and white T-shirts. Not normally something in my wheelhouse but I’m giving more thought to color and statement pieces.

  16. I practically live in orange! We are a four generation Oklahoma State family and those colors are staples in my wardrobe! I am really stocking up on orange since the stores are trending to the true orange – not the orange that cannot decide if it is red or orange. I find it is truly almost a neutral – looks great with almost everything but pink and other soft pastels. Give orange a try – you might be surprised. I am not a fan of dusters. When someone wears a duster that is all I notice about her outfit. I think the fabric is lovely though.

    1. I might wear the duster with the pant, but with a white top and perhaps a long, simple pendant necklace. IMHO, the necklace on the mannequin does not speak at all to the duster. I’m short, so the right footwear would make or break this outfit for me – no flats…

  17. I don’t care for this duster or the colors. I think tall people look good in some of them. I have not found a duster short enough that I like. The long ones look like robes .

  18. I am not opposed to orange and black but I am opposed to dusters. I think they emphasize one’s behind. I do, however, really like the pants and the orange collared shirt that is to the right of the mannequin on a hanger.

  19. I love it! I definitely would wear it. I love the colors, especially the pop of color the duster adds. I would change nothing in the ensemble for my self, which is rare. I like it all. I love the jewelry as well. I guess my word today is “love.” lol

  20. When I saw the butterflies in the title of the post, I thought, “Nope, not my thing.” But to me, the print looks more abstract than butterfly, and I like the colors so I would wear it for a casual dinner out. Orange and black tend to look like Halloween to me, so maybe switch out the orange t-shirt for a blue one. Or better yet, switch out the black pants for white jeans for a summer look.
I bought an orange t-shirt at the beginning of the summer and every time I throw it on, I run into strangers who say they love the color of my shirt, so maybe I should look for more of it!

  21. Chicos dusters are great, except if you are less than 5’7” tall. I wish they make them in petite sizes, so I could take advantage. But the way they are designed now, They look ridiculous on shorter women.

  22. Good morning, Jennifer. This is not my favorite look because orange is not a good color for me, and the butterfly print seems matronly to my eye. The pants, on the other hand, are a winner! I like the straight leg (instead of tapered) and the Travelers fabric can’t be beat. Although I own many pairs of black pants, I may have to buy this one. Enjoy your weekend.

  23. The outfit is lovely, but I do not wear orange or black. The butterfly motif seems to be on alot of items, but since my mother-in-law was a huge butterfly fan, with everything, I do not wear them for some reason. I think the duster would be a great item to have on hand for air conditioned restaurants and malls etc. I have to have an item like that with me just in case, but until the outdoor heat subsides a bit, not necessary for an extra layer.

  24. This is a very very nice look for Autumn – that’s certain! Love it!
Orange with black wouldn’t normally be my color choices in wearables, but this works beautifully I think.

  25. I’m not a fan of orange and orange & black together, so I would pass on this outfit but I do like the idea of it. I can duplicate this from items in my closet: black/white/grey abstract print duster with a white tee and black slim pants and I even have a silver necklace fairly similar. I would wear that outfit today if we weren’t in a horrendous heat wave.
    Have a great weekend everyone.
