Would You Wear It? Athleisure

Would You Wear It? Athleisure

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. It’s time for would you wear it. Each Saturday Pam Lutrell and I share a mannequin we have found and ask if you would wear what she’s wearing. We do this to better understand what styles fit your lifestyle and style goals.

I ran across this in J.Jill and it stopped me in my tracks. Can you imagine why?

Pure Jill

Tell me, ladies, would you wear this look and why or why not.

Slouchy, washed pale, and drawstring sweatpants? Ok for yoga class and the dash to the car for the ride home where I would shower and put on something with life, shape, color. Not for me.

I have actually been arguing with myself about that shrug. I want it but don’t need it. I love the whole outfit and would wear it, definitely. I love soft pink, and I love to be comfy.

  3. January 5, 2019 / 11:05 am

I love the tee and shrug. Yes. Yes Yes! The pants, tho? Hmmmm. I Would have to try these on to give you an answer. Something about their cut baffles me.
I imagine it’s all very comfortable, however.

  4. Janet
    January 5, 2019 / 9:59 am

No I would not wear this. I can’t tell from the picture and the links are not working at the moment, but the pieces all look cheap and ill-fitting.

  5. Marcy Brinkley
    January 5, 2019 / 9:48 am

I would wear the top and shrug with narrower gray pants. These pants are too baggy and the drawstring would emphasize the tummy area, which is not my favorite part of my body.

I like the top and the shrug, but that it is. I dont like the pants, not even for at home.they are too big.

This looks completely shapeless and not at all flattering to the female form. The colors are drab. I would not wear this outside the house, unless I was painting it.

    January 5, 2019 / 8:57 am

Unequivocally yes to the top and shrug. Carefully… maybe the pants. Depends on the length with my shoes and if the drawstring waist and fabric would bunch up into a bubble butt. The adjustability of drawstring waists are great but the fabric below has to drape well. This outfit looks very comfortable and cozy

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:55 pm

The pants looked full length to me but I will go try them on to see.

Please tell us why the outfit stopped you in your tracks! The suspense is unbearable. : )
I’d wear the pants at the beach with a tee, and flip flops or Toms-type shoes.
The tops, hmmmm… …I have found that although pretty, J. Jill clothes make me look heavier, and are generally styled tent-like without shape — as another reader commented.
I would skip the necklace altogether with the drawstring pants, but not with trousers or denim.

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:54 pm

I had been in a store with vibrant colors and this soft combo was such a change. I was curious about the combo they chose and wondered where they expected women to wear it. I will go back to try it on and see how the pieces work together.

Love it! It is sooo me.! I am a JJill dan and this year they are back with their classic look! This is like affordable Eileen Fisher? I don’t usually wear th E beige but I have a JJill sweater in beige that I wear constantly so…?
The pants are classic and yet youngish……I’d look better with my tummy covered but still I love this…
This outfit is what I do everyday!

  11. Linda
    January 5, 2019 / 8:04 am

No to the pants, too short. I might wear the sweater with the shirt but would prefer contrasting colors!

  12. Debra
    January 5, 2019 / 8:02 am

Wide leg cropped paints I just don’t get. Not flattering on any body. Pretty colors but not for my coloring and all to baggy for my build.

  13. January 5, 2019 / 7:58 am

I love the colour combination! I would wear the top and the shrug, but the pants look like pyjamas to me, so I’d change them out for a pair of jeans in either grey or a dark wash. I would probably choose a different necklace as well; something with more colour contrast.

  14. Joanna
    January 5, 2019 / 7:48 am

I’m trying to future out why this mannequin stopped you in your tracks. Was it because they combined track pants with a nicer top and shrug? Or, because they added a necklace to dress it up?

I don’t like shrugs on myself and the light peachy colour would wash me out, so it’s a No for the tops. I also wouldn’t combine a dressier top with such casual bottoms. I don’t wear workout clothes other than to go workout. I think it’s a lazy way of dressing. It’s just as easy to pull on a pair of jeans as a pair of sweats or yoga pants.

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:50 pm

The color combo stopped me, then the proportions intrigued me. I need to go back and try this outfit on to figure out how I feel about it.

  15. Eileen

Looks like lounging clothes to me. I like the pink and grey combo.

This IS my daily look. I am a life-long exerciser. I walk 8 miles a day and do 2 hours Pilates a week. At age 70 I can no longer tick off 8 miles in one go, so I spread it out over the day. However, I do want to look “nice enough” when I am out and about. I always wear a 3rd piece—shrug, sweater or jacket. I wear a necklace or scarf, earrings and a hat or cap. I also wear a bit of eye makeup, especially eyebrow pencil, and sunscreen. I love bumping up my look when I go to book club, the theater or out to dinner. Yes! I would wear this.

I love your life! Sounds like you have a wonderful regimen
Im 58, a few yrs away from retirement and recently lost my home. I had been a life long active exerciser but can now only get in yoga a couple of times a week. I am grateful to have a career in education but retirement is on hold right now. I love the athleisure look but the pants are not flattering if unless you have a tiny mid- section

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:47 pm

I love your styling ideas Linlee

The top two pieces are too pale for me and the pants too baggy. Too much fabric for my size body. Thank you Jennifer.

  18. Debbie Davis
    January 5, 2019 / 7:23 am

Love the top and shrug, but the pants are not complimentary…I don’t understand a flair at the bottom of the pants that hit you mid-calf. Very unflattering! happy Saturday Jennifer!!

  19. January 5, 2019 / 7:22 am

I like it except the pants. Cropped pants doing look good on anyone, especially me.

  20. January 5, 2019 / 7:21 am

I am all over athleisure! I live in it when not working and sometimes while working. I don’t get wearing a necklace with sweats. If you are going to be cash be cash..no necklace please and wear shoes that go with the look!

  21. Sarah
    January 5, 2019 / 7:13 am

Personally, I would want to wear trousers with a narrower leg with all that volume on top, but love these colours.

  22. January 5, 2019 / 7:00 am

Definitely, it would right into my retired lifestyle. The relaxed fit pants are a new silhouette for me, but I like it a lot. I’d choose a different color way for the top & shrug – not a pastel pink person.

  23. Janet
    January 5, 2019 / 6:53 am

No to all. Too baggy/loose/sloppy for me and the top pieces are too pale to suit me. I prefer more form fitting leisure wear.

  24. Kathy
    January 5, 2019 / 6:43 am

Nope! Too baggy and pastel for me. I prefer slim-fitting leggings but would wear the t shirt in another color. The shrug would be too warm in south florida. Like Marcia’s answer above — may work for PJ’s!

  25. Marcia Rayne
    January 5, 2019 / 6:38 am

Shrug and shell are ok but I don’t love it. The color is too similar to my skin color . I would prefer the pants to be a jogging or straight style . The wide cuff and the length would bother me. May work for PJ’s however!

  26. Susan
    January 5, 2019 / 6:37 am

Putting beads on this outfit is like lipstick on a pig! No I’d never wear those pants out–and probably not in the house either. That color and fabric would show every lump and bump. I like the top and shrug, but not that color. So, no to the outfit as shown.

  27. Donna
    January 5, 2019 / 6:36 am

I would wear this around the house, minus the shrug. The other bits could be integrated into the wardrobe. Loved reading the comments!

  28. January 5, 2019 / 6:30 am

While I’m drawn to peachy-pink and gray when worn together, this combo looks like party at the top and bedtime on the bottom.

  29. Deborah
    January 5, 2019 / 6:25 am

I love it. When I was younger, that shade of blush made me look washed out, but I’ve tried it on recently and I think it looks good. My hair is mostly silver/grey and my complexion is a little paler so it warms me up a bit. That’s a great weekend look!

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:42 pm

Our coloring does change. I think I could wear this too now

  30. Phyllis Hughes
    January 5, 2019 / 6:22 am

I would wear this. I love the tops and like the pants after I do something about that drawstring. I would replace the drawstring with elastic. Easy to do. The colors are good for me and I love the cocoon sweater and the necklace. I think it could be dressed up with slim pants and heels.

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:42 pm

Thanks for sharing your styling ideas Phyllis

  31. Amy
    January 5, 2019 / 6:14 am

No, I dislike the colors and it feels neither casual, like athleisure, or nice. The short wide pants would cut me off and make me look ridiculous. It looks soft, comfy, but to me somewhat dumpy….

  32. Lori Stewart
    January 5, 2019 / 6:02 am

Absolutely! I love pink and gray together. I love the look of the shrug and top. While I don’t love the drawstring dangling down, I would tuck it ind go. The shorter pant makes a great casual look.

  33. Cheryl Jensen
    January 5, 2019 / 5:57 am

I love the top, but too pale for my complexion. Might wear the pants if long, just don’t care for cropped wide leg.

  34. Laurie
    January 5, 2019 / 5:54 am

I love this outfit! Waiting for it to go on sale…. Pink and grey are my favorite color combination!

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:39 pm

I love this color combo for me too, Laurie

  35. Leslie Brodbeck
    January 5, 2019 / 5:53 am

I love the top and sweater. I love the color as well. I couldn’t wear the pants, I don’t think. I am too short and I think they’d make me look wider and shorter. That being said, I would try the whole outfit on just to see how it looked. Sometimes things surprise you.

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:39 pm

Sometimes they do. I plan to try this one on and see how it looks

  36. Jackie
    January 5, 2019 / 5:51 am

The tops are lovely and look comfy but chic … with a more tailored pant. Those pants are not for me!

  37. Beth M.
    January 5, 2019 / 5:38 am

I’d wear it, but I’d have to jazz it up w/a little bit of pattern somewhere; it looks amazingly bland and dull (yet quite comfy). I’d also probably end up switching out the pants, because that’s a lot of slouch in one look!

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:38 pm

Great observation about the slouch, Beth

  38. Linda
    January 5, 2019 / 5:30 am

I agree with the others who have said ‘no’ to the pants. I would wear them around the house, but not out in public. I do like the top, however.

  39. BethW
    January 5, 2019 / 5:28 am

The top and shrug are nice although I would not wear them. The color is too pale for me and would make me looked washed out and the style of the shrug would be too big and baggy on me. The pants are a big NO! I am not a fan of drawstrings or the wide leg or the short length. The pants also seem way too casual for the top of the outfit, especially with the necklace.

  40. Lori
    January 5, 2019 / 5:27 am

I’d wear the top and shrug in a different color. That shade would wash me out. I wouldn’t wear the pants.

  41. annie vanderven
    January 5, 2019 / 5:22 am

Tops yes, pants ? no too short for my short frame.

I love the saturday “Would you wear it”

  42. Susan
    January 5, 2019 / 5:08 am

Why would you want to wear daggy old trousers which are neither leisure wear or sportswear, unless gardening? Not a fan of shrugs or the colour pink. So, the outfit is a no no for me.

  43. Susan Gowan
    January 5, 2019 / 5:08 am

I like the top and shrug but would not wear the colour. Too pale and would make me pale. Would wear it in a more vibrant colour. Pants? NO.

  44. Mary
    January 5, 2019 / 5:03 am

I would not wear this. Drawstring pants no, cocoon sweater no, boring colors. This is why I don’t shop at J. Jill – baggy, nondescript and just awful.

  45. janice bedo
    January 5, 2019 / 4:29 am

Never the pants. Never. I don’t wear anything with a drawstring. Tops are gorgeous. I just returned a Zenergy top to Chicos because it had that ugly drawstring. When I ordered it, I did not see it in the picture. It was a shame because the top was beautiful and comfy.

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:36 pm

I often just pull drawstrings out and sew the opening closed

      • Cindy
        January 5, 2019 / 6:55 pm

        Me too!????

  46. January 5, 2019 / 4:10 am

Love this! It looks comfy and stylish.

  47. Gail Schwartz
    January 5, 2019 / 4:10 am

I like the look. I’d wear it as is for daily tasks, but the top and shrug would go nicely over jeans for a casual lunch or dinner out.

    • January 5, 2019 / 6:35 pm

      Thanks for explaining Gail

  48. January 5, 2019 / 4:05 am

I would wear the top and shrug with my jeans or another better fitting pair of pants. But I like the look for casual wear. Thanks Jennifer.

  49. Cindy
    January 5, 2019 / 3:57 am

! would wear the tee & the shrug, I like the soft color. But the pants seem too short & baggy for me.

  50. Beth B
    January 5, 2019 / 3:41 am

I would definitely wear it. Comfort and style… what more could one want?
