Would You Wear It: By Request

Would You Wear It: By Request

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. As you read this, I am on a flight home from Prague. My riverboat cruise has been amazing but short on wifi which is probably a very good thing. Each Saturday my friend Pam and I share a mannequin and ask you if you could wear what it’s wearing. Stores dress their mannequins to showcase new merchandise, give us styling ideas and inspire us to purchase, so we would love to get your opinion.

Several readers have asked me to share a mannequin I saw during the riverboat trip I’ve been on for the last 2 weeks… so this one is by request.

I couldn’t resist this mannequin from the streets of Budapest. It’s very weird and I don’t think it’s meant to be worn. I hope not:)

This one below is the one I want your opinion on. It’s also from Budapest but a more of a dedicated shopping area.

Feel free to comment on each mannequin or focus on just one. Please tell me why you could or could not wear this look. Does this look fit your lifestyle, body shape or style goals?

Please be descriptive so we can have a productive and fun conversation.

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing here.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Love the look on the right. I would wear it as is. I love black and white, the belted pants and the black and white necklace. Love it all!

I would definitely wear the striped outfit in the back. I would wear it as a dress,a tunic over skinny jeans or leggings with knee high boots in the fall. It also looks like there are buttons,if so I would wear it as a jacket over a dress. I would wear the black blouse over a pair of longer pants or a long skirt . The outfit on the left would definitely have to be worn with a jacket or cardigan.

Very sophisticated looks. Europeans know how to dress!

    June 9, 2019 / 4:47 pm

Nope! Neither one. Don’t like the pants especially the belt – pants need a better fit. The dress could be good on someone – not me. The top is OK w/o the necklace.

  5. June 9, 2019 / 12:12 pm

I like the drama of these outfits and would admire them on others, but the colors just aren’t right for me… I wear blue, purple and some pink shades best. The necklace is a great accent piece and reminds me somewhat of the woven paper beauties Francesca Vitali makes, usually in black and white. (She’s on IG if anyone is curious to see her work.)

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:08 pm

That’s a great way to describe them. They’re a dramatic look

Love the hats, the display is beautifully done. The quality looks good, unfortunately, everything looks really too big/ long/ wide, for my frame.

I love both outfits! They are simple, sleek and great in Texas summer ( spring and fall) heat! I would wear both!

Someday after we get my husband’s rods up his back to straighten it, the Dr has delayed the procedure wanting one more test, I will retire from teaching and go find the best hand and foot Dr in my region and get my foot and hands fixed. Then once my foot heals, I am going to find the cutest shoes and start wearing the best pants and…..DRESSES that I can find! I can’t wait!

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:11 pm

Wow, I hope it all goes as planned. That sounds like pretty serious surgery. Good luck!

    June 9, 2019 / 9:08 am

Yes I’d wear any one of these! I’m wondering if the outfit in the back (the dark backgrouund and white stripe) is a jacket over slacks, If so, possibly it could be layered over the white outfits. Love the bucket hats!

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:22 pm

I think it’s a striped tunic top. I think the hats are really cool too.

  9. June 9, 2019 / 7:43 am

Curiously I do not see these stunning outfits as black and white. Rather , they appear to be a natural soft linen or cotton paired with black . I think it is softer look for the intense heat of summer ……and a classic one as well. The necklace adds the needed texture and is
beautiful. Relax and enjoy your family before you return to work . Pris

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:24 pm

They are a soft white linen with black. These would be awesome in the heat. I love the look of these. Thanks Pris!

That rainbow jacket would be cute if I was still in kindergarten!
As for the other photo, I like more color in my summer outfits. The long tunic in a peach or mint green! If pants are cropped I need a longer top over them. I don’t wear tucked tops. I could not walk in those flimsy sandals. I do wear sandals, but I like wider straps to cover my toes a bit and more support.
I love the hats and have some similar.
As for the heavy necklace, I like the look but I think it would bother my neck. I wear lighter pieces.
I think the outfits look great on the mannequins though!

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:33 pm

The necklace looked very lightweight but I didn’t try it on. I’m with you on sandals with a bit more coverage more walking.

    June 9, 2019 / 7:11 am

I think they are all gorgeous and sophisticated, probably too sophisticated for my daily life, but nice for dressing up. I would have to try them on because I have found that it is hard for me to predict which wider leg pants look good and which look bad. The jumpsuit is cute and they are everywhere this season, but I find them impractical (bathrooms!).

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:36 pm

They look very sophisticated to me too. The outfit on the left is a belted tunic over pants. I agree about jumpsuits but keep trying them on.

  12. Denise
    June 9, 2019 / 7:07 am

Love both outfits. But at 5’2” I I just don’t think Thor cropped wide legs would do a thing for me. Need them at least to the ankle.

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:40 pm

At 5’2” these may be ankle length on you! These mannequins looked very, very tall.

  13. Rose Brock
    June 9, 2019 / 6:54 am

Love the black and white combo but I’m still not loving the wider pant legs. They seem to be popular right now but not attractive on someone short.

  14. Kat
    June 9, 2019 / 6:15 am

Love everything about the one on the right, the black and off white. For me to feel comfortable wearing it I would ga e to make a change though. Have an apple shape and that belt although amazing on the right shape, would be awful on mine. Sigh . .

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:43 pm

I hear you Kay. Wide belts are not always easy to wear.

  15. Susan Gowan
    June 9, 2019 / 5:49 am

Guess I’m a rebel! I love the bright-coloured coat and it does take me back to the ’70’s. Would likely not wear it but find the second mannequins look fashionable and conservative. Will wear black and white but with dark pants and light or whitish top for the top.Was hoping for a bit more European pizzaz!

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:45 pm

Budapest wasn’t over the top fashion wise. Certainly nothing like Paris or Milan.

  16. Cyndi
    June 9, 2019 / 5:36 am

That first mannequin gave me a chuckle; thanks or sharing. But the outfit you’re wearing is lovely! I really like the black and white outfits but not sure I would wear either. A sleeveless dress would get very little wear in my lifestyle and black near my face isn’t the most flattering (also, I’m a pear shape so black on op and white on bottom isn’t so flattering either).

  17. Cynthia
    June 9, 2019 / 4:55 am

All three are just gorgeous. It looks like the one on the left uses the same pants as the one on the right, but with a tunic over it. I like when they style things different ways, so you can get an idea how to make basics like pants more of a wardrobe workhorse. Black and off-white are always in style and a favorite of a lot of us, apparently. Really like how they balanced the look of the one on the right. The belt on the pants slung a little low brings some length to the torso. So does the way they tucked the shirt. For someone like me, who no longer has a nice defined waist AND is short waisted, those two tricks would make this wearable.

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:50 pm

You’re right about the pants. I love this color combo too.

  18. Marce
    June 9, 2019 / 4:15 am

I would wear either! The accessories (hat, necklace, shoes) really pull the outfits together. They each have unique features such as the belt (right) and the “flowy” cut (left) would just make me feel very feminine and also, wearing either of these would not allow for doing chores around the house so that’s a boost to the mood too ( i.e. too dressy & flowy, long necklace, & material I don’t want to “mess up”). If the one on the left is too beige, it might wash me out unless there’s enough white in the color.

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:57 pm

All great points. It looked like a soft white to me, not beige.

  19. Gail Schwartz
    June 9, 2019 / 4:09 am

Love the hats! Necklaces too. I like the dress on the left, but the pants on the right look like an awkward length to me.

  20. June 9, 2019 / 1:42 am

I liked the black blouse and white pants, but for my own body I prefer longer length pants. I didn’t care for the necklace. It seems to wear the mannequin instead of the mannequin wearing it, and I think it would be the same way with a person wearing it. I felt a sort of early 1930’s vibe with the cut of these clothes, except for the short pants. If those pants were longer, the outfit could have been right out of an early 1930’s movie. I like that.

    • June 9, 2019 / 6:59 pm

It has a 1930’s-40’s vibe to me too. I really love the feel.

  21. Scarlett
    June 8, 2019 / 5:02 pm

Yes on the navy top and white crops. I love the style of both and it’s one of my fave color combos.

  22. June 8, 2019 / 3:32 pm

Love both, but I’m not sure I would wear the pants, just the wrong cut for short little ole me!

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:04 pm

I’m not sure I could wear it either, but I sure like the look.

  23. June 8, 2019 / 11:47 am

The colorful mannequin gave me a good laugh. Thanks for sharing! I love the other mannequins. I would wear the black top and white just as shown, depending on how well the pants fit me. Some cropped pants make me look shorter. I’m 5’4 and prefer longer pants, but love that look. The sandals look cute, but I would probably not wear them, I need more support in my sandals. I would wear the vertical striped dress, but maybe as a tunic over long white pants. I like the look of the all white outfit, but would need to see the front to decide if I would wear it or not. I LOVE the hats and they are very similar to ones I have and wear.

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:06 pm

I love those hats too! They’re what caught my attention first.

  24. Kay
    June 8, 2019 / 11:20 am

Apart from the wide belts, I love everything about these. I especially love the hats.

  25. Lucretia Roletta
    June 8, 2019 / 10:40 am

I really like it all. I would wear every item. I would add a small jacket to the sleeveless dress and I am not thrilled with the belt on the trousers, too messy and too much going on.
It seems they display items better than I have seen in our stores. These are complete outfits and they are pressed!
When do you have time to do all this? New house, travel, post? Yikes!

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:13 pm

The displays were much nicer! I’m home now and feeling behind the 8 ball so we’ll see how I get everything done 🙂

The outfit in the top photo is really crazy!!! Made me laugh because it is so over-the -top!

The outfits in the second photo are fabulous — the black and white looks so summery and chic. So classic! And those hats are terrific!

  27. Pat
    June 8, 2019 / 10:09 am

I would definitely wear the black and white combo, but might make some adjustments. The pants would have to be a good fit and the right length for my height (I am 5’2″ so proportion is critical). I would wear the top, but adapt the necklace to one less large as this one would overwhelm me and I know I would feel uncomfortable. I have a long silver necklace with pink stones from Chico’s that would be great with this look! I love the shoes as I am drawn to shoes that look great and are interesting and different. Hope your trip was amazing……happy unpacking when you get home!

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:16 pm

Thanks for sharing your styling ideas. I see it perfectly! The laundry has just begun at home.

    June 8, 2019 / 9:26 am

Yes, yes and yes!!! Fabulous looks all around! I would try everything from that display and cross my fingers lol Love hats! So happy to be wearing mine every day now.

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:18 pm

I would try it all on too! I’m anxious to get my hats all unpacked and start wearing them again.

    June 8, 2019 / 9:06 am

Very tasteful, very pretty. I love both outfits. The accessories are spot on! I’d definitely try on these clothes, and probably end up with the long tunic with the split hem or the black top. I really love the hats as styled here!

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:20 pm

I liked it all too. That tunic was a favorite of mine and the hats…I love the hats.

  30. Lezlie Davis
    June 8, 2019 / 9:02 am

I love the dress on the left and would definitely wear it! I enjoyed the first mannequin next to your classic style!

  31. June 8, 2019 / 8:43 am

I love the outfit on the left and would definitely wear it if it fit me well. I’d also try on the pants on the right. I still love my skinnies, but on our recent trip to Europe I noticed a number of women wearing loose flowy pants similar to those ones and they looked so cool and comfortable. I’m determined to step out of my comfort zone and give them a try.

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:48 pm

Good for you Elaine! Stepping out of our comfort zone helps us grow and discover new looks.

  32. Griselle
    June 8, 2019 / 7:51 am

Love the colors, not the styles. Not for me.

  33. June 8, 2019 / 7:39 am

The only thing I like about the black/white outfits is the necklace

  34. Anon
    June 8, 2019 / 7:02 am

Lovely! Both are very wearable looks for my height and shape. These looks are chic.

  35. Sue G
    June 8, 2019 / 6:37 am

Oh my, that first mannequin reminds me of a Spencer’s Gifts mannequin from the 70s! Lol thanks for a grin!
The other mannequins are very nice and I would take cues from the outfits but don’t wear wide leg cropped pants- too short, to heavy to carry the width. And I love the necklace and hats but have not learned how to wear hats well with my curly hair. I think my interpretation of the mannequins would include the tops with narrower full length pants, definitely the necklace, and I’d love to try a hat!

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:50 pm

      I love your interpretation, Sue!

  36. Glenda
    June 8, 2019 / 6:16 am

Love the neutrals! I would wear the combo on the right; I love the wide-leg cropped pants. The “colorful” mannequin not so much…it looks like he/she may have indulged in a concoction that might be illegal here…??

  37. Susan mcclelland
    June 8, 2019 / 6:05 am

I love the rainbow jacket and would wear it. I just got back from Helsinki and lots of stores had Pride displays. The b&w outfits are totally in my wheelhouse, although I might add a pair of red shoes for a pop of colour. The necklaces are gorgeous. Hope you had a great trip.

  38. Cheryll
    June 8, 2019 / 5:25 am

Love both looks but not for me. Ann Taylor has pants similar to the ones on the right, and I ordered them, but they were not cropped on me, came down over my feet and were not flattering so were returned. The other mannequin in Budapest looks like a ‘60s nightmare!

  39. Laura
    June 8, 2019 / 5:21 am

Both outfits are cute. For the outfit on the right, Id choose a pencil skirt over pants, I’d don’t wear pants at all. The outfit on left, I’d add a cardigan or bolero jacket in a bright color, as I don’t show my upper arms at all. The shoes, hats, jewelry on both mannequins is great.

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:53 pm

Thanks for sharing how you’d style these.

  40. Sheila
    June 8, 2019 / 4:36 am

Love th b&b mannequin yet for me at 5’ wouldn’t work. But love it in a taller slim person.

  41. Mary
    June 8, 2019 / 4:25 am

I like the white outfit because easy and breezy for a hot day. I would wear it in a shade of blue not white.
I would wear the white crops in another color with a t shirt — I like the length and the belt. I would probably wear the navy top depending on the fullness of the sleeves — hard to tell with the glare. Cute sandals, cute hats. The necklaces are far too BIG for me.

  42. Beverley Rodrigue
    June 8, 2019 / 4:18 am

I think the very colorful outfit is just terrible. The second window of black and white outfits, I love everything. Of course, black and white are my favorites.

  43. June 8, 2019 / 4:16 am

I love the black and white combos. Especially the white hat! As for the first outfit, you had to document that one just for a terrific share!

    Safe travels,

    Distinctly Southern Style

  44. June 8, 2019 / 4:11 am

You win! The Budapest mannequin is the worst I have seen so far! As to the other group, so chic, but nothing there I could wear the way it is styled here. The white pants would not be flattering on my curves. I would wear that necklace! I love B & W and would admire this on another woman…wish I could wear it!

  45. Yvonne
    June 8, 2019 / 3:38 am

I would definitely wear the outfit on the right (black top, white pants etc.). The entire outfit fits my lifestyle and taste – I love a b&w combination.
Hope you had a fabulous trip!

    • June 9, 2019 / 7:57 pm

It was a great trip, thanks Yvonne.
