Would You Wear It- Casual Weekend

Would You Wear It- Casual Weekend

Happy 4th of July to my American readers! I hope you had a great week. Mine has been pretty quiet. The doctor planned to remove my stitches last Wednesday, but one look at my swollen, technicolor hand convinced him to start me on physical therapy…on the spot. I’ve already lost a lot of flexibility so I have my work cut out for me. Yippee, I needed a project for the summer;)

It’s time for would you wear it. If you’re new here, each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we have photographed and ask if you would wear what it’s modeling. It’s a very popular post with lots of fun conversations in the comments.

Please keep your comments personal to you so no one gets insulted.

I would totally wear that jacket with jeans…love it!

These styles just don’t appeal to me though I would wear the white jeans with something else.

No, to either style of trousers or un-hemmed shorts. Don’t wear anything that is white on the bottom! By the time I’m out the Front Door of our home would have a spot or stain on the white garment. As for the shorts. Just don’t like the holey look in garments…makes me like garbage.

I would wear everything except the shorts! It was 100 degrees here today so it would be a while!

Love the green jacket! I would wear it all except the cutoffs. It’s too hot for jackets here but would work this fall.

    July 4, 2020 / 4:54 pm

Oh look! Clothes from a Vermont closet! These look surprisingly familiar. Guess I could wear all of these. agree with some others that the cutoffs outfit is great for around home and gardening only, because surely even at the grocery store it’s social time since we all know each other. A neighbor may wear this out, but I’d pump it up with Jack Rogers or fun jewelry…or change the shorts or tee.

I like the jacket. I need a new one like that. I had my trigger finger “cured” last year with the injections, but it’s back. So annoying.

    Good luck with your hand!
Yes to the green jacket & white pants, love white in the summertime.
The other outfit looks like it was put together from the bottom of my closet, good for gardening etc.
Happy 4th of July from another Canadian friend.

I really don’t like white trousers; they are really impractical. The cutoffs look slovenly. They need to be hemmed. I find that when a sweater is tied around the waist, it risks becoming misshapen. No, I don’t care for any of the clothes, nor would I have worn them when I was younger.

I would wear the green jacket in the spring & fall, but nothing else would make me take a second look. I am not a fan of frayed denim anything or tying a sweater or shirt around my waist. The gray t-shirt looks more like work out wear. I like the color of the blue shirt under the jacket but can’t really see what it looks like to have an opinion about it.

I like the green jacket on the left, but with temperatures hitting just under 100 degrees here today, hard to think about jackets right now.

As an aside, just a pet peeve of mine – the mannequin on the left in the white pants. Why the spread legs? Does anyone actually sit like that? Even in pants? I can’t imagine going anywhere and doing the man-spread thing. I guess I am just too old to be cool.

Hope your hand heals quickly, Jennifer!

I’m saying yes to both outfits with a few minor changes.

I love the casual vibe of both looks, and I am quite fond of that green jacket. The color and style are exactly my style.

I’d change out the shorts (not a fan of the ragged hem) with either jeans or a more tailored-looking shorts.

  13. Nancy Walden
    July 4, 2020 / 10:50 am

I wouldn’t wear the shorts outfit. I like my jean shorts longer and hemmed. I don’t like crew necked t-shirts and I’d rather carry my shirt than wear it around my hips The white pants outfit is more my style however, I don’t like the neckline on the top. A V or scooped neckline makes my neck look longer.

Nothing here suits me, not the colors or silhouettes or the styles. Maybe this is why I don’t shop at Nordstrom. They know their market. It is not me. Pass.

  15. Lynne Jackson
    July 4, 2020 / 10:28 am

I love both of these. I would get a lot of use out of them in the fall and spring here in southern Indiana.

  16. Cathy
    July 4, 2020 / 10:18 am

I’d wear everything but substitute hemmed denim shorts. The long sleeves would be saved for fall and winter here in my climate too humid and hot. The green jacket is a great piece.

    July 4, 2020 / 10:15 am

I see myself in both outfits as is. Am I too old at 70?

    • Mary Wilson
      July 4, 2020 / 10:18 am

No, I love them both and I am over 70 also!!

      • Dot
        July 5, 2020 / 11:10 am

I like them too. I don’t mind the unfinished hem for the right person. Obviously we would be the right people.

  18. Susan B
    July 4, 2020 / 10:02 am

I love all these colors and wear them all the time. I love that green jacket! I can’t tell from the photo if the sleeves are rolled up or 3/4 length. I sadly passed up a similar jacket because the sleeves weren’t long. It’s cool in the summer where I live, so as much as I adored the jacket, I knew I wouldn’t wear it much without the full length sleeves.

  19. Sandy
    July 4, 2020 / 9:38 am

I like both. They fit my style and color profiles. I don’t wear shorts any more and try to cover my upper arms. So, I would probably pass on that outfit. The other outfit would be perfect!

  20. Eve
    July 4, 2020 / 9:36 am

I would wear both outfits but only if I could try on first. I’m skittish about white pants being see through or too tight. Shorts would probably be exchanged for long jeans but I love the colors of the blue chambray with the olive jacket and white pants.

  21. Diane
    July 4, 2020 / 9:26 am

Love the green jacket; especially since upper pockets have no flap. Can you say what brand it is at Nordstrom? Thanks so much and hope you feel better soon.

  22. Linda
    July 4, 2020 / 9:20 am

I would wear the nice green jacket with white pants but I would change the shirt to a dark blue and I would want the pants to be longer. The other outfit wouldn’t work for me. I don’t like the unfinished hem on the shorts.

  23. Debbie Brooman
    July 4, 2020 / 9:12 am

I would wear both of these outfits. I love the colours. The only thing I’d change for me is the neckline on the tops-I’d choose a scooped or v-neck instead of a crew neck. Healing thoughts sent to you and your husband.

  24. Jackie
    July 4, 2020 / 8:16 am

I would definitely wear the white jeans, blue top and green jacket together. I have quite a few pairs of white jeans and blue tops, but not a green jacket like that. Thanks for the idea! Happy Fourth!

  25. Theresa
    July 4, 2020 / 8:04 am

I would wear all the tops….don’t wear shorts or fitted pants because my legs are the worse feature…heavy, scars from surgery, and I wear compression stockings most of the time. A real problem in the summer. I stick with light weight wide leg pants of skirts. Not the most flattering for my short stature, but I feel most comfortable with my legs covered.

  26. Marcia
    July 4, 2020 / 7:52 am

I like both outfits. I’d save the jacket for a day when it’s not 90 degrees, but would get a lot of wear out of it otherwise. The white jeans and blue shirt could be staples in my wardrobe. The grey T-shirt and denim shorts are great at home. Happy 4th of July from Canada.

  27. Lori Stewart
    July 4, 2020 / 7:46 am

    Yes to both!

I am getting into olive green so that would be a perfect jacket for fall and spring. It it a little to jot in the mid-Atlantic for a summer jacket;)

I am not sure about the blue blouse. It would have to cover my behind and crotch area to wear with skinny jeans like that.

  28. Amy
    July 4, 2020 / 7:26 am

I like both looks and would wear either except I would wear a capri length instead of the cutoff shorts. I recently bought an army green camo jacket and was thinking to wear a black top under it, but now I will go with a light denim. Thanks for the styling idea!

  29. Jane
    July 4, 2020 / 7:24 am

Yes to both outfits in theory… I would choose Jean shorts that are walking length and hemmed, and the white pants with a wider leg, maybe more of a trouser shape. But the picture is a great inspiration for cool summer days.

  30. Linda GR
    July 4, 2020 / 7:20 am

I do not care for any of the items shown, however my granddaughters would love all of it.

  31. Susan McClelland
    July 4, 2020 / 7:20 am

I like both outfits and would wear them. It’s much too hot in my part of Canada for a jacket or long pants, but they would work for late summer/early fall. Having recently retired, I’m living in shorts and denim always works. I’d be tempted to use my indigo dye kit and tie dye it- it’s on trend for this summer.

  32. Pamela Over 50 Feeling 40
    July 4, 2020 / 7:19 am

I would wear the green jacket! But nothing else is speaks my style adjectives nor would flatter my shape. Happy 4th, Jennifer!

  33. Donna
    July 4, 2020 / 7:19 am

I love the green, white and blue combo. I would definitely wear it as is. All three pieces would go well in my wardrobe and provide lots of style options. I have a similar safari jacket and I love it with jeans, both blue and white, and t shirt dresses.

The shorts outfit is one I would choose for gardening, getting dirty. It is definitely not my style comfort zone. I cannot wear gray close to my face as my skin takes on a grayish cast, not a good look. And the crew neck is Another no for me.

Happy July 4th my American friends! 🇺🇸🇨🇦

  34. Linda
    July 4, 2020 / 7:15 am

Yes I would and I wear this style a lot. It’s comfy and cool for hot summer days.

  35. Shelley
    July 4, 2020 / 7:14 am

Thanks for the chance to discuss and comment on outfits. For the outfit on the left I would try the blue blouse to see how it looks. I wouldn’t put it under that jacket (I would prefer the other T-shirt under the jacket) but I would love the jacket in another color — preferably navy but I would try other colors as well. I’ve tried olive as a neutral but I always end up giving those items away because other colors look better. The outfit on the right doesn’t really look like an outfit to me but all the pieces might be useful in other outfits. And it does look like something I wear to do housework although I would pick a colored T-shirt over grey. I don’t wear shorts out any more because I have to wear compression socks or stockings — I could wear the athletic ones but they are very hot.

  36. Holly
    July 4, 2020 / 7:14 am

I would wear both of these outfits. I am praying for healing for you & your husband.
    Have a blessed 4 th.

    July 4, 2020 / 7:12 am

I own that jacket in both navy and a soft khaki but I only wear it during the Southern California winter months. White pants are a staple here. I love seeing the young girls in cut off jeans! Brings back memories of the sixties when I cut all my jeans up and made shorts and a skirt or two. I don’t wear them now mainly because it’s too hot here for denim. Love the look! Hope you feel better!

  38. Joan
    July 4, 2020 / 7:12 am

Really like the jacket and jeans on the left and would definitely wear. They are classic pieces that won’t go out of style.

  39. Elaine @ Following Augustine
    July 4, 2020 / 7:05 am

I consider my style classy casual. The outfit on the right is too casual for me, but I’d definitely wear the white jeans and I love the jacket! Those would definitely fit well into my wardrobe.

  40. Kate
    July 4, 2020 / 7:04 am

I love the look of the olive jacket, especially since the top pockets don’t have a flap. It is hard to find that feature, but I can’t wear that color green. I’d love it in a bright color. As a pear, I look best in bootcut pants. I also have had knee surgery and the knee is still swollen 5 years later, so most skinny and straight pants don’t fit over my knee.

  41. MRSBEN2
    July 4, 2020 / 6:58 am

The white jeans a definite yes as can dress up or down, whereas the other pieces namely for cottage or camping wear and not so much for the street. As to the jacket, currently don’t own one in protest that they are a staple for the other three seasons where I live, so prefer to avoid them at all costs with warmer temps. (I opt for cotton knit sweaters instead.) All said; do like the white blazer and striped colourful tops that I see in the background.
P.S.: Sorry to hear that your hand isn’t healing as hoped and with wishes the PT is the answer for a full recovery.

  42. Jan Stout
    July 4, 2020 / 6:23 am

I have all those pieces except the olive jacket which I had at one time and found it didnot work for me so swapped it out for orange!
Great outfits to wear around my small town for shopping and meeting a friend for morning coffee.
    Feel better soon Jennifer😍

  43. Rose
    July 4, 2020 / 6:20 am

I have most of these clothes right now. Things you can wear casually every day. My white jeans are skinny and I have Navy shorts not cut offs and a jacket that’s similar. I wear it all spring.

  44. Cyndi
    July 4, 2020 / 6:12 am

I have all these pieces in slight variation and I would (and have) worn these outfits. They’re not my most exciting outfits and I wouldn’t choose them to meet someone for lunch or a day shopping, etc but they’re ‘causal comfortable’ for a time of year when it’s a bit less hot and humid. I haven’t been into a clothing store but maybe they’re already putting out their fall lines?

    • RoseAG
      July 4, 2020 / 7:43 am

      I own these things too!
I’ve only been into shops a tiny bit, but as far as I can tell they’re all displaying what they had in mid-March when they shutdown, so rather than going into Fall, they’re back in early Spring.

I don’t envy retailers trying to get their stores evened up with their web sites. With the possibilty of re-closures if I were a retailer I’d be stocking Fall too.

  45. Mary K
    July 4, 2020 / 6:00 am

First, None of these items of clothing are in my “Wheelhouse”!! They are all too bland in color and would wash me out with my skin/hair color. I want some vibrant colors and a print or two in the mix. The jacket would be too warm for So Tx and I never wear olive. I wouldn’t wear the shorts at my age and the white pants are a little too ‘skinny’ for my taste. Wishing you a speedy recovery for your hand, Jennifer.

  46. Beth
    July 4, 2020 / 5:54 am

Love these outfits! But too hot in GA too for the jacket or sweater right now. Like all the colors! I’d wear the gray shirt and lightweight sweater with jeans. No shorts for me either. I like that those jeggings look heavier then regular leggings which don’t work for me if I”m going out of the house. : ) Love the sage jacket outfit. I have a similar salmon colored jacket, wonder what color “t” I could wear to pull off the same general look. Thanks Jennifer. It feels like the world is righting itself now with you showing styles again. Prayers for you and your hubs complete healing and recovery. Best wishes.

    July 4, 2020 / 5:52 am

I love these looks, however I would opt for jean crops instead of shorts – I haven’t worn shorts for a long time. I have all the pieces to these outfits, just haven’t put them together like this – yay new styling ideas. I do need a new basic gray tee though!

Thinking good thoughts for a speedy recovery.

  48. Joyce Reardon
    July 4, 2020 / 5:38 am

Both of these outfits are a yes for me! I could easily pull either from my closet. They are my go to outfits for my every day life – grocery store seems to be the only place I go anymore! Continued prayers for healing for both you and your hubby.

Have had vein therapy twice, it only comes back. Not again! So no to the shorts outfit., but I have lots of white jean so might wear the jacket. Keep up with therapy. It will help lots.Happy Fourth. Stay safe..

Not a fan of the blue blouse but love the jacket and the leggings. The other outfit I also love but would have to have a hem in the shorts. I have just never cared for the unfinished hem look. Love the soft colors in both outfits. Hope you have a good healing and recovery with your hand.🙏🙏🙏

    July 4, 2020 / 4:45 am

I like the green jacket, blue top and white pants. However, I need to see the entire top to check the sleeves, back etc. I can see a tie in the back and the elastic waist usually hits me in the wrong spot. If it’s a peplum, NO. I would probably trade it for a v neck tshirt of the same color. I like the white pants but need to see how skinny they are. I go for straight or boot cut. These look too skinny (tight) for me. They are too legging looking — which I avoid.
The shorts outfit is a no. That shade of grey does not work for me and the frayed hems on the shorts are a no. I avoid jean shorts anyway. They are too hot in the Chicago heat. I would like to see the tied top. I like the color. Happy Saturday.

  55. Lynn
    July 4, 2020 / 4:41 am

Would I wear it and should I wear it are two different questions! I would wear both but I should not wear the shorts or the jeggings. Shorts are too short for my 61 year old legs and the jeggings probably won’t work either. But I love the look and the casual vibe to both. The tops and jacket are in my wardrobe right now. Or at least Something similar. Take care of yourself, Jennifer and work hard at therapy. It will pay off. Happy 4th of July.

Wow you’ve had an eventful life lately. I will add Jennifer and her technicolor hand to my prayers alongwith your sweet husband. I’m a no on the shorts outfit; age and varicose veins have ended my shorts wearing days. I might wear the jeans outfit in the fall; it’s far too hot and humid for now although it doesn’t really “speak” to me. I like my clothes to look and feel comfortable and it just doesn’t inspire that soft comfortable feel. Just personal preference.

love the little gray t shirt…it appears to have a nice cut. the ragged edge jean shorts are a no. i prefer cuffed just above the knee. the green jacket, i have something similiar already, the blue top is a definite no…too much elastic. white leggings, probably not…too much to worry about in terms of what you see, if you get my drift…white jeans i can wear with more confidence.

Hello! I would not wear the jacket with those isn’t and blouse. Or, change the blouse to something more like a t-shirt and that would be fine too! However, I would wear the outfit on the right. Fun and casual!!!

    July 4, 2020 / 3:50 am

Good morning Jennifer! Ouch..sorry to hear about your hand (colorful review) and hope the PT sessions bring back strength and movement……
The jean shorts outfit might be fine around the house, for me. I don’t know if Id wear it anywhere else, though an early am run to the market near my home? Maybe…..
I like the white skinny jeans with jacket and blouse but it is a bit heavy for our high humidity summers…..maybe near the end of August when things begin to cool down . I do like it!
    Have a great 4th!

Yes I would wear both of these outfits. I would tie the sweater around my shoulder s.
