Would You Wear It- Delicate Scroll

Would You Wear It- Delicate Scroll

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend, ladies. I hope the sun is shining where you are. There’s just something about a sunny day that improves everything. My moods have been all over the map this week and I’m beyond ready to get out and back to normal.

I went to the supermarket yesterday and was shocked to see so many people with no mask, no gloves, and who weren’t social distancing. I had to wonder if they are dumb, selfish, arrogant, or a combo of all three?

Let’s have some fun with would you wear it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin and ask if you would wear what it’s wearing. We love to hear your thoughts on the fashions and I love you to share how you could style it to work for your body shape, lifestyle, and coloring.

I snapped this photo through the store window at Chico’s, so pardon the blur.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear the outfit in front? Is it your style? Coloring? Please keep your comments personal to your taste so no one gets their feelings hurt.

The most popular item that ladies are buying this week at AWSL is this casual striped shirtdress.

It’s still 40% off and free shipping if you sign up (free) to be a reward member. It also comes in a sunny yellow stripe or a fresh emerald stripe. It runs large so go down one size. This self-tanner is a close second which tells me you know summer has not been canceled and are feeling hopeful.

There are so many sales happening, it’s hard to keep track so I shared a few from stores I know my readers love:

Talbots – Take 50% off 3+ items, 40% off 2 items, or 30% off 1 item. Shipping is also free with no minimum this weekend.

Ann Taylor – 65% off select full-price styles with code NOWLATER.

Nordstrom – they have a new special sale every day and have teamed up with some of the best brands to bring you amazing deals.

Anthropologie – 30% off dresses, skirts, accessories and more.

Loft – 70% off one full-price items, and 50% off almost everything else with code OMG. Free shipping and returns over $25.

J.Crew – 30% off cashmere and 40% off full-priced items with the code APRIL.

Now let’s pop over to Over 50 Feeling 40 and see what Pam’s Mannequin is wearing.

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

Liked the first top soft feminine colors. I have gotten away from baggy billowing clothes and gone to more comfortable fitted clothing because it actually makes me look thinner. Super loose clothes make it look like you are trying to hide.

I too have been shocked at people’s disregard for the health of others. I was told that’s the way it is in a free society people get to make choices apparently with no regard for others.

I LOVE this outfit – the color especially. So nice for summer after wearing dark clothes all winter (it’s still winter hear in Wisconsin!) The top looks a little too large but otherwise I would wear it in a second, anywhere.

I would definitely wear this look…in fact I actually have a couple similar tops. I might be more inclined to wear with taupe or white pants but would definitely wear it!

    Hi Jennifer,

Love your comments. Don’t we all want to protest? We are all tired of this but we are hanging in here, or at least most of us are. We have to be considerate of other people and what they are going through, besides our own families. It’s tough! I don’t think any of us like wearing masks or sanitizing like crazy, and yes, I did get bleach on some of my things too!

Lets all stay calm and enjoy some of this downtime we will get back to where we were…timing is everything! I have to say I don’t like the “New Normal” saying. After 9/11 happened we had to change quite a bit, but we got use to it and went forward. My concern is getting these viruses coming from other countries and spreading it. That is not cool at all. Things have to change about that.

My husband and I went out and split a pastry and had a coffee …we were shocked at how much it was! Opening up will be a prayer answered. Now we are use to eating in so, one of the nice things is we are saving money by not going out. We like to go out and try new restaurants, and it will happen again.

I like Chicos too, but I need to go in and check out the material first, but I love your blog Jennifer keep it up.

    Thank you for listening ….

I like the soft colors and the gray/aqua combination. The tunic style would be easy to wear. But I would not buy it for a reason I have not seen anyone else mention. I don’t care for the long ties with tassels. I see it a lot. Am I the only one who does not like that look? If I like everything else about a top, I sometimes just cut them off (with mixed results). Maybe it’s that I like classic style more than boho.

I do like this outfit combination. The soft gray and similarly soft turquoise or green. I’m assuming this is part of Chico’s Zenergy line, which I mostly like. As a almost 5’1” person, I think this would not overpower. It would also be good for my weight gain of the last few years. The top could be worn well with white. It looks cool, so would work in our hot summer evenings. I would wear this to casual parties, church events, etc. I might also wear it shopping, though the full sleeve might be in the way if I need to be more active.

I like the paler top – the colors, material and style would be great for me in summer. I think the pants are too thick though, I would wear it with thinner leggings or wide flared lined white pants.
On masks and gloves – a lot of doctors say they really don’t make any difference to wear them, but social distancing is certainly very important.

I do like the colors of the top and I would wear it If the neck didn’t look to big around. I like the back neck to be high on my tops. Less skin the better for me. The pants look fine but I have so many.
I don’t see many people because we use the Walmart grocery app. Just pull up, they load your trunk and never come close to anyone. It’s the same at SAMs for our Meds. The only actual people we’ve seen is the man who cuts our grass and a handy man. We are retired so it’s easier for us. I pray for those who have no choice and need to get out there.

I would not wear either of them as that style does not work for me. I do like the colors & prints & the aqua with gray is a color combo I have not tried before, but will now as I have both colors in my wardrobe.

I like the aqua-haze top. I would not wear it with gray jeggings. Gray definitely isn’t a go-to color for me. I’d wear the top with white ankle-length pants or with one of my denim skirts. The jegging style comes in other colors and the blue-tones are more appealing to me. I have a hard time finding jeans that fit my body. I have a long torso and jeans are often too low-rise for me. I recently donated all but one pair of my Chico’s jeans simply because they hit too far below my waist. The pair I kept is really stretchy and comfortable even though the rise is a little lower than I’d ideally want. I’m hoping that “high-rise” jeans will be a better option for me. I’ll probably wait till the stores are open so I can try them on.

I don’t wear leggings or jeggings but I have been looking for a nice grey pair of pants and these (from reviews) look like they might Just fit the bill “not too tight”. I must admit that most of my clothing is from Chicos. Their sizing has always been spot on.
We definitely wear masks and in our small town – everyone does. As we are a tourist area I hope when they relax traveling that visitors will comply.

    April 18, 2020 / 11:14 am

I like both the top and jeggings. I wear grey year-round. The top looks as if it would flatter most body types. Chicos is one of my go-to places. We have several store here in Portland and an outlet store within 25 mi.
I hear you as to the lack of consideration – no mask, no glove, no distance. Our back yard is a gold course (still open here) and I have seen several people crammed into a golf cart, when the rule is 1 per cart, golfers not observing 6 ft. distance while playing. Like you, I am unsure if it is due to mis-information , carelessness or selfishness. I would like to think it is misinformation.
I do not think you are judgemental at all. We all have a responsibility to not only protect ourselves but others. Do unto others.
    Stay well;
    Penny

      April 18, 2020 / 5:18 pm

It is not judgmental. We are in the middle of a Pandemic with a previously unknown exceptionally virulent virus. Why wouldn’t you take precautions including wearing masks? What if YOU suddenly sneeze? Your droplets can spread over 6’ and hang for a while or contaminate other surfaces. And though you may not FEEL sick, you may be asymptomatic.
Keeping your distance of at least 6’ is being considerate of everyone. Not doing these things is inconsiderate at best.

Sorry that you were offended, Linda. I ask my readers not to judge another woman’s clothing choices so I suppose I was judging the non-mask wearers. I feel strongly that we all need to do our part to end this thing as quickly as possible by doing what we’ve been asked to do.

I love the look of the aqua top, however, not sure if it would look sloppy on me. I would have to try it on. The gray leggings are nice. Does anyone else feel like $99 for a summer top is getting expensive? I’m in Michigan and most people are wearing masks here. I feel awkward if I don’t have one but we are really hard hit in our region.

  16. Marian
    April 18, 2020 / 10:06 am

Both tops are lovely but don’t suit me. I love Chico’s solids, but not their prints. The boat neck and ruched 3/4 sleeves are great for my broad shoulders, long neck and arms. The aqua top is cute but the wrong color for me. I think it would pair better with white or dark blue or even bright coral or yellow pants.

I love their jeggings and I will probably buy this lovely light gray. It goes with everything and stands up over time. I have their jeggings in blue – they are a perfect fit and are longer than most other brands. I have very long legs and prefer full length as my ankles are not my best feature. Their jeggings really give you that long lean look. But I’d wear the light gray with a Chico’s light pink top.

Am I the only one who has gotten bleach spots on my pants?!?!

Regarding masks and distancing: I live in Santa Rosa, about 2 hours from you. We have many out-of-state workers here in Northern California – mostly fire related (re-building, utility and fire-prevention). My husband works in the utility sector inspecting trees for PG&E and tells me daily about all these guys who don’t distance, wear masks, etc. They came from places where the worst hadn’t hit yet and they don’t get it at all.

I purchased the front top and it is really pretty and will be perfect for a light summer top especially in the evenings when it is a little cooler. I plan to wear it with white pants. We are encouraged to wear masks in our state. We are really seeing the result of social distancing in the number of virus cases. I know it is frustrating but if it keeps the number of cases down it is worth it. I have family members who are on the frontline of dealing with the virus so I truly appreciate all people are doing to help slow this monster down.

I would wear it. The colors are my colors. The style of the top wild make my shoulders wider which I need, I have found out thT kind of neckline makes my double chin less noticeable. As for masks….no one wears around the neighborhood walking. I can’t see why you would. In the grocery stores some do and some don’t. I believe the contradictions are some to blame for sure. While the official government position is wear them in stores, doctors and nurses all across the country say if not a N95 it is of no use. If I understand correctly, if I do t sneeze or open my mouth, I have no need of a mask.

I think I would try both outfits if I was adding to my wardrobe. I am not so it’s just fun to look right now.
I don’t understand the reluctance to wear a mask. This is such a simple effort that everyone can do. The gloves are only good if you’re not touching multiple areas, then they are no better than your bare hands which you would wash or sanitize. This is going to go on for a long time. The virus will not go away like a miracle, we need a vaccine!

Finally, warmer weather in the forecast! Love the sunshine! ☀️

I like the outfit, especially the pants. I would have to try on the top but I know I would want the sleeves to be tighter around the wrists. I don’t see anyone walking around the neighborhood wearing masks but we do wear them at the grocery store.

I looked at them on the website. In one view. the front/thigh area of pants looks faded, so I do not like that, but in the full length view, it doesn’t appear to be faded. So, maybe??
Love the color of the top, but do not like that style on me.

I like the color and cut of the turquoise blouse and if I bought it, I would wear it with white pants. But am I the only one who thinks that tops with collars are more flattering for older women? Not sure my neck, chin, and back of neck are as lovely as they used to be!

  23. Linda
    April 18, 2020 / 8:16 am

I like the shirt but would prefer it in a dark blue print. My feelings on the pants are neutral as I can’t see enough of them to know if I would wear them or not.

  24. Eileen
    April 18, 2020 / 8:15 am

The top Neckline isn’t one that I’ve liked in the past, so I’d pass. As for masks, I’m outside walking an a hour everyday, with my bandana mask on, ( our county has asked us to wear them) and I’m seeing many people not wearing them, and not social distancing. Strangely, our local golf course has reopened, this feels wrong, as the public parks are not open yet. Strange times….

I like the top but can’t wear pastels! Isn’t it kinda retro?? I wore these tops from India in the 70’s for maternity tops! LOL!
I really like the grey jeans! I’m wondering if they are light weight for summer? I’ll look into them!
I read an article that says not wearing masks is a kind of an aggression born of the fear of feeling out of control! That made me a little less angry at the crazies!
    Thanks Jenifer…hope you are well!

      April 18, 2020 / 9:11 am

Hi Shari, I live in Australia where our Government has advised it is not necessary to wear a mask in public, so most people do not. There has been a lot of contradictory advice about the efficacy of masks, which is probably why many people don’t wear them where you live. Also, as a Registered Nurse, unless you put on and take off the mask carefully, you run the risk of infecting yourself and a mask has to be very well fitted (and an N95) for it to be of any real use.

I like the outfit with the exception of the tassels. If I purchased, those would be removed! In my area, everyone has to wear a mask in public, employees and customers, you’re not allowed to enter a business without one on. Masks protect others (and that’s what we should be doing) but gloves only protect you and (from what I’ve read) actually spread the virus, better to use soap and water or hand sanitizer (and if you touch it, you should buy it)

I like the gray pants. It’s a good shade of grade for spring/summer. Although the top is a good color, I would not choose to wear it because the tassel would drive me crazy. The abstract top in the back looks like a more promising style for me, but the colors aren’t. I like the russeing/rooshing (spelling?) on the sleeves.

I really like the front outfit. I would buy it and then rarely if ever wear it because all though I like it, it doesn’t fit my style. A little to light and breezy, dangling cords etc. It has taken me decades but I am finally learning why some beautiful clothes become dust collectors in my closet. I am so proud that I could identify that. It is thanks in part to your blog and guidance so thank you.

I would definitely wear the top, but not with that applied cord – from a distance, it looks dirty. On the website the cord on the orange one is better; don’t know why they used black to attach the cord on the blue one. The pants are great, but I agree with a previous poster that white might be better. Nix on the bag – I could never find enough “stuff” to fill up a bag that large!

I went to the grocery store yesterday, too. It was necessary after several weeks of not getting essentials like milk, eggs, flour and meat in my online pickup orders. Some wore masks. Others didn’t, but what surprised me was the number of men shopping — only two women customers in the store, and the men were being aggressive about getting into the two-metre zone. I didn’t want to be there, and I hope the shortages do not continue. I’m happy to stay home and order online, if food is still available. First time in a month for meat and flour, so we feel like we won the lottery.

Hi, Sorry, this is not in response to would you wear this, however, it is important to me. I need to find slippers for around the house that are supportive and comfortable. I wouldn’t wear them outside at all, but since I have some arthritis, I am achy. Any help will be much appreciated.

How much support? I’ve been wearing Keen Howsers for years and I think they offer a good amount of support, and are fleece lined. They can be worn outside also, though I don’t. You can order them online in various hues and at various price points. The only thing you might find a problem with your arthritis (if it’s in your hands) would be putting them on–I sometimes use a shoe horn.

I understand your assumption that people are not wearing masks or gloves by choice. However, I would urge you to not jump to conclusions. Please remember that these items are practically impossible to obtain. I have tried for weeks now to order a mask and gloves online. Impossible! I truly believe that the vast majority of people are working very hard to comply as best they can with government directives. On another note, I wanted to thank you for all of your efforts to continue your blog in these difficult times.

I have the gray pants and find them a nice alternative to the typical denim jeans. I’ve seen the top on Chico’s website and have been tempted. I love the color palette and the tassel ties are a nice feature. I like to keep my arms covered and the material looks nice and lightweight for spring/summer. I’m picky about my purses so I would have to see this in person for size, interior pockets, etc. Overall an outfit I would wear.

  41. Kay
    April 18, 2020 / 5:42 am

I like the style of the turq. blouse in front but it’s too pale. (the scroll work is beautiful which can be seen better on Chico’s website) I would wear white ankle or crop pants in white with this instead of grey. Like the silver handbag idea but not the cross body style; also silver flats or sandels would polish it off. Not liking the abstract print top in the warm colors, need cool colors.

  42. Susan R
    April 18, 2020 / 5:41 am

I like the color and print of the top in the picture, but would not wear it because it’s too shapeless. I never wear any kind of tunic because I’m so short ( under 5’) and they truncate my already short legs. The gray jeans are a possibility if they’re not too narrow. My short legs are thick and narrow legged pants wind up stretching over my big knees ( really!) and calves. And Chico’s pants are normally way too large in the hips. But I love the gray!

The colours are too soft for me. My own colouring is very muted (soft hair, eyes and same toned skin),so I like brighter colours. As I am 5’2” with short legs, tunic tops cut me in half. A shorter top makes a huge difference.

I probably wouldn’t wear those outfits as I tend to steer clear of pale blue as it doesn’t suit my colouring and am not a huge fan of printed tops. The grey jeans are fine, but I steer clear of lighter colours as they only emphasize my saddlebags. As for going to the shops, where I live, you rarely see anyone wearing a mask or gloves. I was at the beach the other day with niece and her children and even though there were quite a few people walking and sitting on the sand, social distancing was maintained. However, the supermarkets only allow so many people in at a time and there are markings on the floor at the checkouts so you maintain social distancing. Our government has maintained that masks aren’t needed, but I do wear my N95 when shopping. Stay safe

This front window picture of this outfit looks nothing like the pictures when you click through the links to the Chico’s site. It looks frumpy and purple at least on my tablet. On the site the grey jeans and the aqua tunic are both something I love and would wear. The jeans are my fav style skinny, high rise and are nicely fitted. The colour is a great lighter option for spring and summer paired with lighter tops or thin sweaters. The tunic is airy and flowy but not too much material to overwhelm and the v neck is flattering. I love the colour. The cross body purse in grey is a great option for summer. I love the option to be hands free with my purse when shopping or sightseeing (remember sightseeing? Sigh) but it does have a tendency to look awkward on larger chested women, me included but the usefulness outweighs the fashion dilemma. I like this outfit!

I like. (Not love) the grey pant outfit in front. I like Vee created in the top and though pale, I really like the look. Grey jeans are a lighter spring look, so fur a change I might buy this. I see they added a matching handbag, something I don’t often gravitate toward (too matchy matchy). In this case I rather like it…..

The brighter abstract print tee in back is something I do like, a lot! How I wish it had a Vee neck!

I’m all about v-necklines too, Paulette:)
