Oh dear! A bit too shapeless for me.

  2. February 9, 2019 / 3:44 am

Shapeless, messy, drab,…hard to believe these was put up to attract someone to buy. I would not wear it…does not meet any of my personal style messages. Thanks Jennifer!

It is hard to believe. I wonder who they thought they would attract.

  3. February 9, 2019 / 3:49 am

No. I like casual, but neat. Too messy. The one on the right looks like something I would wear to paint in.

  4. February 9, 2019 / 4:10 am

Not for me. As casual as my style has become since retirement, these two looks are too baggy and shapeless for me. I like jackets that cut in a bit at my waist to narrow the look at my smallest part…..which needs help. Lol.
The layering is odd too. I just do not care for either of these looks.

I agree the layering is unusual. I’m not sure of their intent here

Too boxy! Looks like they threw on their husband’s, much larger, coats to take out the trash!

Whoever styled those outfits on the mannequins should be either drug tested or sacked (or both).

Susan that made me chuckle. Say it like it is girl! ????

Years ago I had a baggy denim dress with the wash out look. My dad said it looked like I was the warden at a women’s jail! He was a hoot!
Anyway these outfits(?) reminded me of that old joke !
    They are awful!

Sloppy, shapeless, mismatched, wrinkled and just plain ugly. Not good look. Would never wear this intentionally.

      My thoughts exactly.

What?! No, no, no. Baggy, shapeless colourless mess. I will check back to see if anyone sees this differentlu but I can’t imagine it working for anyone.

  11. Cindy
    February 9, 2019 / 4:51 am

I have to agree with other ladies who have commented – these are both a big NO! Shapeless, sloppy, baggy, drab & totally unflattering!

As my 87 year old mother would say if she looked at me wearing this, “Oh, honey. That outfit does nothing for your figure. And I know you don’t like to iron, but that outfit really needs to be pressed.”

Only if I was going to prison! (Sorry Jennifer, I’m not being snarky…it just was the first thing that popped into my head!). It strikes me as oversized, shapeless, and washed out. Why would a designer think women would want to wear that? I would be curious to know how much they cost.

  15. RoseAG
    February 9, 2019 / 5:09 am

We have a long light jacket season in Maryland and I would probably wear both those jackets. I like longer jean jacket style jackets.
What I don’t care for is the rain jacket with the dress. The proportions are off. I stay away from from dresses with hi-low/shirt tail hems because I can’t figure out what kind of topper goes with them. A straight hemmed one seems odd.

I like the long denim jackets these days too. These ones seem a bit too oversized for the pieces underneath

  16. February 9, 2019 / 5:20 am

Oh no! what a dreary and drab manequin. Neither of the models look good. Bring in some colour.

What happened to looking smart, pretty and feminine?

  18. Karen Shirey
    February 9, 2019 / 5:33 am

Oh my, what a hot mess. Wrinkled, colorless, shapeless, and I can’t imagine that there is anyone out there that would feel better with this on their body. I think I would feel very sad with this on.

    February 9, 2019 / 5:38 am

Oh my, I hope this is not what we have to look forward to in the stores. These two outfits indicate that the wearer doesn’t care how she looks. I like comfortable but this is downright sloppy. Oy vey…

  20. Wanda
    February 9, 2019 / 5:41 am

Most times I read your blog looking for items that maybe I haven’t tried but should to flatter my large size figure. I try to focus on fit and proportion whether casual or dressy. This mannequin entirely missed the boat.

  21. February 9, 2019 / 5:44 am

Wait! Where are the distressed jeans to complete the look? (just kidding 🙂

  22. Barbara
    February 9, 2019 / 5:46 am

No, way too baggy. Sloppy looking. Also too wrinkled even for casual wear even for me. Colors looked washed out.

  23. J'Laine Bradley
    February 9, 2019 / 5:56 am

I love a denim jacket…but this one is way to over sized to look good over either of these pieces. It may have its place but I don’t see it here. Maybe over something ever tight fitting.

Great observation. Large over slim often works.

  24. Linda
    February 9, 2019 / 6:46 am

I agree that this ‘look’ is just too messy and shapeless. Therefore it would be very unflattering on just about everyone.

  25. Deborah Davis
    February 9, 2019 / 6:49 am

I think everyone else here has already said it….shapeless, drab, faded. Not for me…I prefer a more polished look!

  26. Eileen
    February 9, 2019 / 7:06 am

Some retail buyer bought these…And some design person put these on display… how sad…has “ casual, comfortable and cotton” come to this? Are the stores now competing with thrift/ resale stores and sites? These items, as displayed, are either a comment, or a joke, or a reason to fire someone. It could have been funny, “ spring cleaning clothes!” With a paint brush, cleaning rag, bucket, broom, this could have been a riot!

  27. February 9, 2019 / 7:20 am

I agree with the many who have already commented. These looks are drab, ill-fitting, and completely unattractive!

  28. BethW
    February 9, 2019 / 7:22 am

Besides being drab, it looks like a very young child putting on their mommy or daddy’s jacket.

  29. Kelly
    February 9, 2019 / 7:22 am

Certainly, wouldn’t wear either as is. Maybe, the black pant with a blouse with a more defined waist than the tees. Then wear the jacket like a trench. Would need visually weighted shoes to balance. Can’t imagine anything to help the boxy jacket on the left.

  30. February 9, 2019 / 7:25 am

Just curious????…what store did you see this display in? Hopefully it was a thrift store….it is really strange! I can’t imagine anyone thinking it would appeal to very many people.

Too bad the retailer cannot read the replies of your readers. It might be eye opening to them how we generally feel about those so called outfits. Just awful!

Hey! How’d they get my husband’s old gardening clothes? I thought I had given them to Goodwill?

  33. Sue G
    February 9, 2019 / 8:00 am

I wore something similar to these as a teen – my dad said I looked like Ralph the garbage man. His way of saying it does nothing for you. 40 years later I still hear him saying that in my head when I pull something out that does nothing for me and looks like it’s been over washed and worn out. Sorry, this one does not have any redeeming qualities for me.

  34. February 9, 2019 / 8:16 am

Pam said it all NO! I remember when we went through this oversized look. It wasn’t good then and it isn’t good now in my book! Hopping over to see what Pam has

  35. Lori Stewart
    February 9, 2019 / 8:19 am

Wow. The jackets, top, and dress look way too big and sloppy. Neither would enhance my figure. I would give both of these a pass and probably think something catty like the dresser’s kids put it together.

  36. Susan
    February 9, 2019 / 8:42 am

I wouldn’t even be buried in it. If I was I’d come back to haunt whoever put me in it!

  37. annie vanderven
    February 9, 2019 / 8:44 am

    Not for me too baggy

  38. Joanna
    February 9, 2019 / 8:56 am

No! They look like their wearing Plus size jackets. It’s a sloppy, messy, washed out look. Pass!

  39. Linda V
    February 9, 2019 / 9:02 am

First of all, I don’t like light denim. I would never wear it. Secondly, the layered look is not for me since I live in a warm climate. Thirdly, the jackets are just too boxy.

Eek! And my style goal is not eek!

  41. Sue
    February 9, 2019 / 10:50 am

Not for me….. Looks like something I would wear to work in the yard or clean.

  42. beth byrd
    February 9, 2019 / 11:03 am

Oh my … I’m really not sure these outfits would look good on anyone … they sure don’t look good on the mannequins. The jackets are way, way, way too big and look even more so in light denim. Maybe if they were paired with more fitted clothing the jackets it might work. Maybe. But as is everything is so loose and baggy and looks sloppy.

This is not an attractive look. On my worst fashion day, I think I would look better than this.

  43. Becky
    February 9, 2019 / 11:15 am

The only thing I would remotely consider is the denim jacket on the left, if it were properly fitted. The rest of that outfit looks as if someone just took whatever was close at hand. The outfit on the right defies description.

  44. Susan
    February 9, 2019 / 11:17 am

This is just awful. I would not wear this ever. It’s boring, drab and frumpy! Back to the drawing board.

  45. Lily
    February 9, 2019 / 12:03 pm

I love it! The looks are hip and young. I love the muted colors. I would perhaps alter the fit. I would style with beautiful sea glass jewelry.

  46. Allison
    February 9, 2019 / 12:09 pm

Not sure what you’re asking here. Would I wear a jean jacket? Yes. Would I wear layers. Yes. Would I wear this combination? No.
It looks like a Good Will window. Let’s move on.

  47. Kay
    February 9, 2019 / 12:12 pm

They are trolling us, right? The jacket/coat on the right looks like it might be practical, but I think I’ll pass.

  48. Marcia Rayne
    February 9, 2019 / 12:24 pm

Yuck. Although I love denim and own a dozen denim jackets, I do not like the faded and oversized look. I thought at first the size 2 mannequin was fitted with a size 14 jacket . Someone didn’t take pride in their work. Nordstrom missed the mark on this one.

  49. Karen H.
    February 9, 2019 / 12:44 pm

Oh my this look is dreadful. Please tell me this isn’t trending. Can you share with us what store you saw this display? Hope the house hunting is going well, Jennifer.

In the comments she said it was Nordstrom’s!!!!!!!

    This is some hot mess!

  51. Julia S
    February 9, 2019 / 1:21 pm

I am very fair so could not wear the light wash. Both jackets are not structured at all so I can’t decide what body type they would flatter.

  52. Helen
    February 9, 2019 / 1:43 pm

    NO-AWFUL, BOXY LOOK!!! No shape!!!

  53. Lesley Tuckett
    February 9, 2019 / 3:27 pm

It’s all been said in the comments above….very dull, unflattering etc. Ugh!

  54. Patti Cullen
    February 9, 2019 / 8:40 pm

Ummm, no for reasons previously discussed by most in the comments. Mainly what I have seen in this weekly segment is pretty unappealing selections. I know there are more attractive options out there. I see them every time I shop which is far too much unfortunately.

    • Jennifer
      Author
      February 9, 2019 / 9:09 pm

There are many appealing options shown in shops, Patti. We don’t plan what we see and photograph.

  55. February 9, 2019 / 9:54 pm

The biggest thing wrong that I see, is the denim pieces are far too big for the models. It looks sloppy. I’d have to be sure to have the correct size to try them on and if they run big, I wouldn’t bother.

  56. Susan Gowan
    February 10, 2019 / 5:32 am

I’m with the other Susan. Prison garb, shapeless, well worse than thatcand unflattering, boxy. I like casual but I wouldn’t be caught dead in these denims. Also too washed out to be interesting. Like NOT!

  57. Pat
    February 10, 2019 / 1:36 pm

Good god, no! Whoever put these together does not know what they are doing. Both are a hot mess.
