Absolutely! The sleeves are just the right length and width for me to be comfortable wearing shorter sleeves in the office.

If it’s not too long, I’d give it a try. The pattern is delicate enough. The fabric looks light and air could move through the sleeves and keep me drier when it’s 90+. I’m being more practical in my choices now – arms must be somewhat covered and gain a bit of sun protection too.

If I was a 5’8 and under 130lb I would wear it in a heartbeat, I am neither so no, I would/could not wear this look.

Do like the skirt and can see myself getting a lot of mileage out of it pairing it with a variety of tops from a camisole to a sweater etc. and numerous choices in footwear. Whereas the blouse shown: I am just not fond of this type of neckline (semi mandarin) nor its sleeve type (kimono) for myself.

I like the classic colors and style. The top would overwhelm me.

Speaking as a seamstress, I would not call this a dolman sleeve. It’s a kimono-type. I like it. It looks comfortable.

Love a dolman sleeve – but not this one. I am reminded of a fabulous red and black color block long sleeved dolman top I wore in the 80s – would love to have it again!

I can’t wear Dolman or raglan sleeve style. I have very broad shoulders and narrow(ish) hips and also don’t like the feel of all that fabric around my arms and torso. I like the skirt but am retired and especially during COVID-19 have no need to wear a skirt.

I can’t wear this style, my shoulders and bust are too large. And it doesn’t help that I’m 5’3”

I have tried many a dolman sleeve but it’s too much fabric under my arm!
I’ve seen others who wear it well

I think it’s cute but it would overwhelm my small frame. I’d say no to the skirt but only because I no longer feel as comfortable because I like heels with a skirt and I prefer at my age 78 to stay upright. I like the colors though.

I’m not a fan of dolman sleeves, but this outfit really appeals to me. I can actually visualize myself in it!!! I have narrower shoulders and wider hips so this would be good for my body type.

That being said, I’d have to be careful with those sleeves — definitely not something for the office for fear of getting snagged on office equipment.

This is a very classy and sophisticated look. It’s a definite yes!

I like the outfit in general because it has a simple classic look, but the blouse would definitely not flatter my large chest.

I like dolman sleeves but untucked or they overwhelm my short body

I love the A-line skirt, which looks gray to me, and the blouse fabric, but dolman sleeves are not flattering to a larger bustline.
I am going to check out the skirt.

Would wear the skirt – but would look as if I were standing in a hole if I wore the top,

  17. Anon
    August 15, 2020 / 9:40 am

To me, this top resembles a kimono. I would wear it exactly as is, tucked into the A-line skirt.

I do not wear dolman sleeves in the winter, when jackets and coats make these sleeves a difficult fit

I’m not against dolman sleever per se but this is just a boring blouse. It doesn’t have an redeeming factors to me, except it’s neutral. I’d rather see a nice print. the sleeves are awfully big and boxy.
Thanks for sharing an interesting idea.

I think it would look OK on me, but it would catch on every doorknob I passed. For the reason, I have sworn off the dolman!

    • Mary Ann
      August 15, 2020 / 10:54 am

😊 Yes as to the doorknob comment! I have found dolmans too much material and difficult to wear anything on top—jacket, etc.

Like so many others, my immediate reaction is “not right for my body type”.
However, I do like the outfit itself and I would take it into the dressing room just to see what it might look like on me. Sometimes if we step out of our comfort zone and try something unusual, we might get a very pleasant surprise. It might be the exception that proves the rule. Most wardrobes could benefit from an interesting or atypical piece or two – a little spice to liven things up. It may not look unflattering to our figures at all!

I do not like this at all. Not my style and I m not into the longer skirts and dresses yet! Is this going to continue I wonder. The blouse is too fussy and the sleeves would get in the way. I have not worn a skirt for a long time because my hips are small and I never feel comfortable.

  22. Nancy Walden
    August 15, 2020 / 8:50 am

The large dolman sleeve would not flatter my larger chest. A fitted shoulder looks better on me. I love that skirt! I’d wear it with a jewel-toned semi-fitted top that hits at high-hip. Depending on the season, I’d wear it with heeled sandals, a ballet flat wedge, or knee-high boots.

Love the outfit. I am a fan of midi skirts here in San Antonio Texas. It’s hot here and skirts are more comfortable. I love wearing them with sneakers. As a retired woman at 63 years old I still love fashion…especially if it’s comfortable and cute. I’m 5″6 and weigh about 145 and don’t love my arms so this is a perfect outfit for me!!! Also, may Brenda rest in peace. I loved her blog.

I wouldn’t wear the shirt…it’s too boxy for my body shape and the sleeves just appear huge. I just don’t feel like it’s the comfortably classic look I prefer…too fussy for me, but that’s just my personal preference. I could see it working on a tall lady very well.

That loose top looks perfect for hot summer weather. I’d give it a try.

I would try this on to see how it works for me; I’m a pear shape. In theory, I think those sleeves would give visual width to my shoulders and I know that skirt would visually slim my hips. It’s a beautiful outfit, but maybe a little more dressy than my current lifestyle requires.

I wouldn’t wear this top. Too boxy and too much fabric.

I like the skirt and I do like dolman sleeves but these are just too wide for me to wear. Being petite and short waisted it’s hard to wear big sleeves. Like the color and stripes.

    August 15, 2020 / 7:02 am

I love the skirt and would wear it easily with sandals or cute boots amd a oversized sweater. The top woud not look good on me as I am petite with a large chest and those sleeves would drown me but I do like a black and white stripe. But this shirt has a funny opening in my opinion-I think when you try it on the lines on the V opening will distort over the chest (or it will on mine) -and it looks like the tab at the bottom of the v does not go down straight and that would bother me visually.
    Happy weekend!

I’ve got the tall and slim part, but I’m afraid the color of the top would just wash me out. Other than that I could probably pull it off but living in a place where we need outerwear three seasons of the year there’s no use buying anything a coat won’t fit over.

  33. Pamela Over50Feeling40
    August 15, 2020 / 5:39 am

I would be willing to try it on but fear the blouse would not look good on my larger chest…I like the look for someone whose shape it would flatter.

The definition of droopy is “lacking strength or spirit”. I am struggling to think how I would style this top and my conclusion is that it does not fit my current shape. I need structure in a top. The dropped shoulder, dolman sleeve even makes this slim mannequin look very wide and blocky. The skirt is beautiful but that shipped sailed for me. Years ago, I would love to wear this skirt! I would style it with a vneck sweater and add my favorite “pumps”.
There are so many ladies that could style these pieces and look amazing!
    Enjoy our summer weekend!

I don’t think this top would work for me. I am a redhead so the colour would not be flattering.Warm tones are better on me. I also am only 5’4″ so the amount of fabric would be too much. I have narrow shoulders so try to steer away from dolman sleeves. This is a great look for a tall slim girl with with broad shoulders and cool colouring. I really like the skirt. It is a good length and would cover my “older” legs. Being almost 70 years old I try to stay current but also know what should and shouldn’t be showing. I live in a subtropical area of Australia so a sandle and a short sleeve linen top in an animal print would make this a great outfit for me.

honestly, just looking at it, i dont know. i would try it on, because i do think its pretty, and sometimes dolman does work for me. im a bit leary of the stripes, but again i would try it. and i would also like to see different color combo…beige works for me, but often brown does not.
the skirt, only in my younger days. i refuse to go bare legged in anything but a swimsuit cover or capris…and i gave up struggling with panty hose probably a decade ago.

I would not wear the blouse. Dolman sleeves overwhelm me. I like the skirt. This might work on someone tall.

  38. Heather
    August 15, 2020 / 4:54 am

I am small shouldered but hippy … and tall (and a little heavy right now) … and as always need to emphasize my shoulders. This would work but the sleeves are too full and, from experience, this total addition to my width in this area de-emphasizes my shoulders and my waist gets lost. I need more structured shoulder emphasis.

This outfit is my style – minimalist, a touch dramatic with a bit of Asian influence.
I would change the colour of the top to white with black stripes, add long, silver earrings and a cuff bracelet and it would be perfect. I would have worn this with high heels back in the day.
I’m a rectangle shape and fairly tall.

I like the skirt, but I don’t think the dolman sleeve top would do anything good for me. However, it is a nice look for the ladies who can wear it.
      Enjoy your weekend!

I really like this outfit. I can never say no to a long back skirt. I’m always on the look out for unusual blouses and this one fits the bill. My only issue is with the colour – I think it would look drab on me. If the stripe was red or pink, it would definitely be in my closet.

  41. Ramona
    August 15, 2020 / 4:35 am

This would not work for me. I am larger on the top and smaller on the bottom. This would only accentuate what I need to camouflage.

  42. Diane B
    August 15, 2020 / 4:33 am

I would have to try this on to see how it works for me. I like the look on the thin tall mannequin, but I am not that. My shoulder are narrower than my hips and the vertical stripe might just work. I usually need a shoulder seam but you have piqued my interest. The skirt of course is a beauty. This one has me questioning the jewellery aspect, not sure what would work.

  43. Paulette Levy
    August 15, 2020 / 4:23 am

I like this entire look….it would work for me I think. I’m fairly thin all over. I’d have to wear this longish skirt with a tall boot. I like skirts to the knee, or just above slightly…..

  44. Diane
    August 15, 2020 / 4:20 am

This particular sleeve is dramatic for me but I love a dolman sleeve because I am small chested and a rectangle. I like to add width on top.

I am also on team “no, not for my body type”. I end up looking like a linebacker, in this style. LOL

  46. Linda Todd
    August 15, 2020 / 3:04 am

Sorry but no. I am an inverted triangle shape with wide shoulders and a bust. This look would be very unflattering.
