Would You Wear It: Front Tied Shirt

Would You Wear It: Front Tied Shirt

Happy Saturday and welcome to would you wear it. Each Saturday my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we’ve run across and ask if you’d wear what it’s wearing. We find our mannequins at random so they don’t represent what we like or recommend. We want to know if the outfit works for our readers’ lifestyle.

Please tell us why it would work for your shape or why not.

If it doesn’t work for your lifestyle, I’d love to hear why not.

Here is a closer look at the top.

So so tell me, ladies, would you wear this outfit?

Here are the weekend sale updates:

Yes, absolutely! Love this whole look. I recently styled a tied shirt…it can be very flattering!

  2. May 4, 2019 / 3:40 am

Yes I would! On a very warm, casual day, this would work on my body type. The pants are apparently straight, one of my favorite leg style in pants. The top is a pretty color to brighten me up. And yes, the tie front would cover my tummy, my worst feature…lol.
I would add a light weight neck scarf in similar shades, or some other simple but colorful jewelry, depending on how hot it was……

Thanks for sharing how you would style it Paulette

  3. May 4, 2019 / 4:24 am

Yes I love this outfit. I would wear the blouse in another color not this color, I love the styling of the blouse! I love crop/capri pants because I live in sweltering Florida!

    May 4, 2019 / 4:26 am

No I would not subject the world to seeing a bow on my tummy!
We used to tie shirts like this over jeans…….like an after thought.
I’ll skip this trend! I think a regular shirt would be more practical and not be so easily dated next season.

I Love this look and would wear it!

I really like this and would wear it

I might wear this outfit with alterations. I would wear the white straight jeans if they were full length. I would wear the top if the tail was off the shirt. I’m tired of the butt covering tops. They look strange to me.

    May 4, 2019 / 4:41 am

This is a great color and overall, I like the style. However, I recently tried a top with that back flap and it is not flattering on me…accentuates my bum. 😯

I would wear it, if it didn’t have the long tail in back.

    • Diane
      May 4, 2019 / 10:28 am

I agree, no tail would look better.

  10. May 4, 2019 / 4:46 am

Yes, I love everything about this. The color is fresh and not too bright, it looks lightweight and easy to style either tied like it is or left loose over leggings.

I love everything about this outfit and would definitely wear it!

  12. Lori Stewart
    May 4, 2019 / 4:57 am

I love this look. It looks as if the blouse was made to tied in front – less bulky than if you just took a button down shirt and tied the tails. It seems more put together. I love it all and would definitely wear it.

  13. Sue
    May 4, 2019 / 5:17 am

I love the color. But the style would make me look too blocky. There is no shape to the shoulder or bust and I think it would make me look bigger than I am. Also that knot brings the eye right where I don’t want attention!
I have a front tie blouse from Chico’s in my closet that I wore once. It is more fitted but there is still the issue of the knot placement! I really should put it in the donation box.

I love the shirt, but I would choose longer pants.

  16. Leslie
    May 4, 2019 / 5:35 am

I would definitely wear this outfit. I like the shirt and the pants. I actually bought a tie front chambray shirt with three quarter length sleeves this spring.

  17. Corrie Zacharias
    May 4, 2019 / 5:35 am

I would wear it if I had a nice flat stomach and no bum. Tie fronts look good on me when viewed straight on, but turn me sideways, and it just adds bulk to an area that’s already bulky!

  18. Amy
    May 4, 2019 / 5:43 am

I would wear this in a heartbeat! I love everything about it. The white straight pants are a spring/summer staple for me, and I love the longer length of the top, so pretty. I would probably wish for a brighter color to go with my dark coloring, but I think the color would work. Where is this from? That would so help me on these would you try it pieces. Amy

This is from Nordstrom. I looked for a link but couldn’t find one.

  19. May 4, 2019 / 6:05 am

The shirt is a pretty color and it looks like a cool, wearable fabric, but a long tail like that always makes me think of a diaper ready to be pulled between the legs.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:34 am

Lol! Not a visual I’d want associated with my look.

  20. Sue
    May 4, 2019 / 6:18 am

I would wear a tie front if constructed to be tied, otherwise they never seem to lie right. The tying of this one is uneven. I’d wear the outfit untied on a hot summer day with flat sandals and some wow, bohemian earrings.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:35 am

Thanks Sue. That sounds summery and fun.

I couldn’t find a link for it, sorry. It’s from Nordstrom.

Yes…the color is lovely, and the style is classic! I love the collar, the button front, and the tie is adorable. Personally, I love the high-low style, with the back having the extra coverage! Bravo!

  23. Becca
    May 4, 2019 / 6:39 am

I love the outfit. The shirt is my favorite and I love that it can tie. The whole outfit is very cute.

  24. Ellen
    May 4, 2019 / 6:39 am

I love the color of the shirt, but I don’t like the bum flap…I just think it looks strange. I would have to try the tie top. Many that I have tried in the past actually seem to accentuate my stomach by billowing out, while the most flattering shirts (without ties) are those that are closer to the body but just skim over my problem area.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:37 am

They often lie flatter if designed to be worn tied only.

  25. Cathy
    May 4, 2019 / 7:00 am

I love this and yes, I would and do wear this shirt! In our hot humid climate this is a beautiful dressy casual style. I’d add some wedges for a great date night look. I do find the long tail fun because I could wear it with leggings. I’m 5’2 so tying the front gives me a longer line in front visually.

    • Jennifer

Love it!! Love the lightness of the fabrics and colors!! Complimentary to most body types as well!!

Every week I get distracted by how ugly the mannequins are. From shiny white to creepy flesh tones — they remind me of humans but make me suspect aliens are in the stores. Dress forms would better. Or human beings.

I don’t mean this comment as a criticism of your and Pam’s fun “ Would You Wear This “ idea. No, I want stores to find a better method of display.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:30 am

Great observation. I remember when mannequins we’re designed after famous models and made to look pretty.

    May 4, 2019 / 7:28 am

I often like this style on others, but the longer rear shirt tail hanging down in back (as it does here) just does not look right on me (or at least to my eyes). I do have a shirt that I tie but the rear tail snugs up on my hips. That look works on me. The shirt and pants otherwise are fine for our hot summers here in NC. I would not choose this color though, a cool color in pink, green or blue would be nice!

  29. RoseAG
    May 4, 2019 / 7:29 am

No – it’s not my color, but the style is nice. I like that it’s longer in the back.

The mannequin is OK with me; I don’t like displays with fake faces. I imagine that retailers in areas with racially diverse shoppers work themselves into knots trying to figure out what to do about the color of their mannequins.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:27 am

I think you’re probably right about mannequins and their color. I hadn’t thought of that before.

    May 4, 2019 / 7:31 am

Yes I love this outfit and would definitely wear it. Love the color!

  31. May 4, 2019 / 7:44 am

Yes, I would definitely try this on. The colour is lovely, the fabric looks cool and comfortable, and the overall look would suit me well for summer. I’m wondering if the top has to be tied or if it can also be worn loose. I would prefer the versatility of being able to wear it either way.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:26 am

I think it is designed to be tied.

  32. Joanna
    May 4, 2019 / 7:46 am

I have mixed reviews of the top. I like the colour as it’s flattering to my complexion and I do wear shirts but the oversized look doesn’t work for my body. Being small busted all that material would swamp me.
The white slim leg capris are a winner! They are so easy to style with any top.

  33. May 4, 2019 / 8:12 am

I might have worn this 25 lbs ago, but while it looks good on me when I see myself in the mirror, I’ve never been confident with a focal point below my navel. It also feels weird when I sit down, as the knot either rides up or pulls tighter.

  34. May 4, 2019 / 8:57 am

I love the shirt and would wear it. I like the color and it seems casual and cool which is good for the summer heat in Cali. I would prefer the pants to be full length, capris are not my best look. I think I would add a necklace of some sort to help draw the eye upward and away from the low knot.

  35. Susan
    May 4, 2019 / 9:56 am

Love the color but feel the shirt is just too big-I don’t need a bum cover as I feel it just accentuates the area. I like a somewhat shorter more tailored tie front shirt. Generally feel tie front tops can be flattering, the one I like best of mine is more to the side, not right in front.

    May 4, 2019 / 10:08 am

This is a wonderfully casual look! Love the draping of the blouse and the color. It looks great with the white pants. I’m giving it a yes!!!

  37. Becky
    May 4, 2019 / 11:06 am

I love the color of the shirt & don’t mind the tie in front. However, the shirt tail in the back looks like it was added as an afterthought, so I would wear it if the tail were gone.

  38. Cyndi
    May 4, 2019 / 11:21 am

Love the outfit – color and tie front.top I’d need to try it on because those dropped shoulders sometimes are not flattering to my pear shape also that tying the top didn’t make it fit too tight in the hips.. I like the white capris but they look like an odd fit on the mannequin,; would also need to try those to see if they fit better on my body.

  39. Lily
    May 4, 2019 / 12:48 pm

I don’t like ties at the tummy because they add bulk and the eye goes right to the spot and really, is that where you want people to look? The color is too bright for me. Is it linen? I like natural fibers.

  40. J Johnson
    May 4, 2019 / 1:07 pm

I like this as an option to the half-tucked in shirt hem that has been so popular. I would like it better if the back didn’t look so flap-like. A curved hem to a longer back would look better. All that being said, I love this color and the lightweight look and flowing style with the white jeans for hot Texas summers.

    • J Johnson
      May 4, 2019 / 1:07 pm

Should have said as an alternative to the half-tucked in shirt.

  41. Kay
    May 4, 2019 / 2:04 pm

I like the color. I like the fabric. I don’t need any more bulk in the tummy area, so this one is not for me.

  42. May 4, 2019 / 2:45 pm

I like the color and the fabric and the tie front, but am not liking the extra long hemlines at the back of blouses trend. It makes it look like my behind is down too low. It looks fine on others, but not me.

  43. Sandi
    May 4, 2019 / 6:08 pm

I like the color and I would wear it if it was shorter and no tail, less loose. I’m 5’1” and loose, longer tops don’t suit me.

    • Jennifer
      May 5, 2019 / 4:46 am

It would be very long on you Sandi.

  44. Debbie Gorton

Absolutely would wear it…but where do u buy it?

It’s from Nordstrom. Sorry I could not find you a link.

    May 4, 2019 / 7:44 pm

Love the colour of rhe shirt. Pretty for spring and summer but I don’t like the style of the tip. It looks a bit messy to me. I guess I am a bit of a purist when it comes to fashion . Am sure it would accentuate my hips and waist, areas I try to minimize.
