Would You Wear It- Orange Shirtdress

Happy Wednesday ladies. I hope your week is going well. It’s time for would you wear it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we’ve photographed and ask if you would wear what it’s modeling.

My mannequin pickings are getting slimmer and slimmer because our indoor mall is locked down tighter than a drum and will likely remain that way for the foreseeable future.

I love to have you share how you could style this dress to fit your body shape and lifestyle.

What do you think? How could you make this look work for you?

Please keep your comments personal to your situation so no one gets their feelings insulted.

Here’s what’s popular with AWSL readers this week-

It’s marked way down for the end of summer but will be perfect going forward into fall.

The lightweight cotton is another great piece for transitioning into fall.

Now let’s go over to Over 50 Feeling 40 to see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I love the dress but on my phone it looks gold.😊 I would definitely hem it and ditch the bulky cross-body for a slim black one.

Oh, Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to the Orange shirtwaist maxi dress! Orange for me is only great at Halloween Time and in the form of a carved pumpkin.

Love everything about the dress except the length. But hemming is an easy fix. This would get a lot of wear if I had it in my closet

But that crossbody bag? No, thanks

Hemming is the easiest fix and remember, I’m 5’4”

I like the shirt dress, and the animal print, but the color would not reflect well on my face. I do like midis and maxis, though this dress looks as though it would swamp every inch of my 5’3-1/2″ frame, and heels are no longer an option for me – my lifestyle doesn’t call for them, and my arthritic knees cry foul. The handbag does not work for me, since a more sleek, tailored look suits my personality better.

#1 the maxi style isn’t my favorite as my legs are my best feature. If it is winter, what jacket would be good with it? The color is wonderful albeit a bit strong for my coloring. I love it on the mannequin.

Like many have said, the colour doesn’t appeal to me and wouldn’t be flattering. I like the shirt waist style and would be fine with it if there is no waist. I am very long waisted so more often than not, dresses with a joined bodice don’t work for me at all but I could move the belt on this one. I would wear a dress like this with espadrilles if they weren’t too high in the heal and probably shorten it to mid calf for my 5′ 2″ height.

I love a shirtdress, but the color on this one would not work for me. If it were a black and white leopard print, like the purse strap, then yes. I would add a different belt and a lighter bag.

    August 5, 2020 / 10:47 am

No, this just isn’t for my very short 64 year old self, and orange is not an attractive color on me. The purse might be fun with a much more casual outfit, maybe jeans.

I don’t wear dresses and certainly not a maxi; but if I did, it certainly wouldn’t be in this color (more yellow than orange) nor this print! The crossbody bag look too bulky and too much pattern going on to wear with the dress. This is a definite no for me!

I’d try it on, for sure! It could be a fun piece. I’d wear it with a white crew neck tee underneath, change the belt perhaps. Also a Jean jacket in white or denim might be cute with it.

I wouldn’t wear this dress. One, the color would not look good on me and two, the belted style would not flatter my post-menopausal waistline.

  12. Mary Jo
    August 5, 2020 / 8:57 am

No the color is not for me, the print would be ok in a different color.

  13. Lily
    August 5, 2020 / 8:46 am

I would not buy/wear this dress as it does not fit my style aesthetic. I prefer more muted colors/prints and a shorter, more fitted silhouette. Oh alright, I mean sexier. Why are we afraid to use that word?

I love this dress! I would add a black belt. I think the purse is way off – ugh! I would carry a black bag & wear black heels & black tights with buttons undone half way up the skirt so some leg shows & if chilly a black jeans jacket or short black sweater an inch or two below waist. Or, summer sandals with a straw bag – both in black or a neutral beige/tan.

Thanks for sharing how you would style this Judy

  15. Sue
    August 5, 2020 / 8:21 am

Never. I love the print, but the style would balloon over my hips, and the length would be dowdy without 5-inch spikes (which I quit wearing forever ago).

My first thought when I saw this print……WILMA FLINTSTONE!! Would I wear the dress? No. I’m too thick in the waist to pull it off! I’m sure it would look fine on a slimmer lady.

This could be a go-to September/fall print for when I wake up and suddenly the summer colors and styles are no longer quite right for a New England girl! It looks like a perfect choice for those days that start off in the 40’s (toss on a light blazer), and it would still feel great at lunchtime, sans blazer, when the temp hit’s the mid 70’s. I would tone it down a bit with a small black bag, and classic 3″ pumps to accommodate the length, but accent with light, fun, complimentary earrings and a statement necklace – perhaps held over from the summer- that fits just inside the neckline.
    ~Be well.

So very true about the colors and fall. Thanks for sharing your styling ideas Liz!!

I would wear this dress if it was a different color. The animal print in a nice shade of blue would work well and the length would have to be at the knee. I would wear this all year round, with a jean jacket in spring and fall, with booties and sandals. I am very petite, so dresses work well for me!

The dress is too much pattern for me and I don’t like the orange. The top looks a little tight too compared to all the fabric in the skirt. Thanks for the fun post keep safe Jennifer.

I like this dress very much but do not care for the color. The style is flattering and the longer length really appeals to me.

I don’t care for the purse — the animal print strap is too much.

Hi Jennifer, Love the dress and it’s colour ,I feel it may swamp me as I am quite small in frame and height , being five foot.and slim, but I’d say a petite size would be ok .

I like animal print but not in this color. The belt and length are too much for me but would love it as a blouse!

I would this dress if it was another color. Something like pretty blue, lavender, or green. I don’t look nice in orange , since it’s a warm color. I’m 5’4 so I would see how it looked on me . I’d hem it to midi length if it fit nice. I have a little tummy, so it might not even suit my shape. Love your blogs, Jennifer. Look forward to all your posts. 🙂👍👍👍

I would have to try it on to see if I would wear it. I like the style of the dress and length, not crazy about the textile, and I do not think the belt would be flattering on me…might make my hips look larger. I agree with others that it might be better in a solid color…especially a neutral.

I love this dress! For fall I would pair it with a black blazer to cut down on some of the print overwhelm!

Love the dress style, but it would be to much animal print for me.

If this dress were shorter–to knee– I would buy this! I like the fabric and it looks fairly cool….as we have some very warm weather in early fall.

LOVE the dress! Fun piece… I would change the belt out, however.

I have a dress very similar to this one although shorter, just below the knee, and I like it. I bought it because I didn’t have any other animal print (other than a belt and a Soma nightgown), and I wanted to challenge myself to wear something new. These days it sits in my closet. The only dresses I’ve worn all summer have been very casual tshirt type dresses from Old Navy.

Love this dress just not sure about the color. If this was polka dot in blues or reds I’d buy it in a second. I’m tall so midi or maxi lengths are slimming & much more attractive on me than shorter lengths.
The handbag would not be a purchase, not a style that works for me.

I do love a classic, shirt waist dress but I’m not sure this dress follows that criteria. Is there a set in waist or it just gathered at the waist with a self tie belt. Regardless, there is an abundance of fabric at the midsection. This look, plus the color would not flatter me at all. Maybe, I could pair it with a jean jacket this fall but honestly, I have absolutely no need for a new dress of any type. I don’t feel that my social calendar will change that much this fall or winter. Therefore, my existing wardrobe might only need a few upgrades.
Our summer is slipping by too quickly….

Love the cut and drape of this dress but unfortunately the color is not flattering on me. Too bad the dress is not a solid! I like the crossbody purse featured even though a purse with a different color handle is not typically my style. I think this purse would be a fun complement to shorts and maxi dresses now and jeans with sweaters in the fall and winter.

This dress has a lot going for it, but also a few minuses. I like the length of the dress and would wear heels and a leather belt with it. It has sleeves, a big plus for me because the skin on my arms is no longer firm. I don’t care for the large animal print ( I’d prefer a tiny one, like the blouse you’re modeling or a floral or geometric), and the coloring makes me look sallow. But change the coloring and print size and it’s mine!
    Stay well.

That dress is too much animal print for me. I prefer a blouse or shoes

I like everything about this dress except the print. I do not wear animal print EVER! This dress would be terrific in navy, dark purple or an abstract print with shades of blue. I would leave that purse in the store and use a small black leather crossbody. Happy Wednesday!

I have to pass on this dress. It’s the wrong color for me and way too long. My prefetence is usually an a-line dress in a solid color that I can accessorize with scarves or a unique jacket.

Where can I buy this? I would wear it in a heartbeat! The tailored top balances the full skirt and looks so comfy! The print is fun but not all out jungle.

    August 5, 2020 / 4:15 am

Yes I would wear it but would change belt and purse. A beige pump or sandal and a straw hat would be more my style. Hope all is well with you and the Mr. Stay well.
