Would You Wear It: Pink Lady

Would You Wear It: Pink Lady

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. Thank you for taking the time to share your answers on my last post. I also received a lot of email responses and am giving thought to all of your ideas. What I forgot to ask is if you would be interested in paying a small monthly fee to view my site without ads? Please share in the comments.

It’s time for would you wear it with my friend Pam. Each week we post a photo of mannequin we have seen and ask if you would wear what it’s wearing. We do this to foster conversation in the comments and an exchange of ideas. I love to hear how you would style things to work for your shape, coloring, and lifestyle.

I ran across this mannequin at a Johnny Was boutique. Johnny Was is known for its vibrant colors, lavish embroidery, rich patterns, and opulent fabrics.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this dress or jacket?

How would you style them to make them work for you?

As always, please be kind because there will be ladies who love and wear what you hate.

I’d wear the jacket with dark jeans and white tee…I loved fanciful jackets! …esp paired with “casual” pants!

  2. Cheri
    January 13, 2020 / 7:27 pm

I would definitely wear that jacket! Love all the colors and designs:) The dress….NO! Too childish and too plain, although the color does go well with the jacket.

All I can say is Ewwww, no I would not wear it – LOL!

  4. Cindy
    January 12, 2020 / 3:20 pm

No I don’t think I would wear them. I’d probably walk by it in an store.

  5. Kay
    January 12, 2020 / 2:17 pm

I have always loved Johnny Was, but I haven’t taken the plunge. It’s just too pricey. But I am sorely tempted by that jacket.

The Jacket is not my style but I would enjoy it on someone else! The dress is a bit too shiney and thin, not good coverage for curves..

The pink mannequin does not bother me.. people come in all colors.. maybe not that one, but rainbow hues are ok with me..

    • Jennifer
      January 13, 2020 / 6:26 am

Lol! I haven’t seen someone that color since Halloween.

NO WAY on either one of them!!!! looks like something a clown would wear

  8. Susan
    January 12, 2020 / 6:36 am

The dress/jacket combination is way too much for me. While I incorporate some bohemian pieces, I always always pair them with simply cut neutrals, or I look costume-y. ( But I’m really small.) I do wear long peasant skirts In the summer, but never dresses. Again, too much for me ( physically and mentally!). The jacket is gorgeous, but in the past I’ve overwhelmed myself with similar tops. While I like the embroidery it would be too limiting and too memorable. And of course there’s the price point that’s so far beyond my means it’s ridiculous.
I’m wondering if the putrid pink mannequin is an attempt at political correctness. Perhaps we’ll see rainbow hues?

  9. Donna
    January 12, 2020 / 5:42 am

Love the dress colour, but jacket or dress not my style. I don’t mind the ads. So no I would not wear either.

  10. Donna Doyle
    January 11, 2020 / 9:04 pm

Both pieces are pretty but not something I would get much wear out of. I’m trying to be more of an intentional shopper.

  11. Peggy
    January 11, 2020 / 8:23 pm

I am not a fan of tiered skirts or dresses, at least on me. The jacket? I would not buy it but would compliment another woman who wore it.

  12. Pam
    January 11, 2020 / 6:42 pm

As much I love your blog, I probably wouldn’t pay – the ads don’t bother me that much.

  13. Teresa
    January 11, 2020 / 6:10 pm

I can’t get past the blue mannequin….I do not like the shiny fabric of the dress; the jacket might be pretty if styled differently.

  14. Denise
    January 11, 2020 / 5:38 pm

I love Johnny Was and just bought a Johnny Was cut velvet kimono jacket that was on sale at Neiman Marcus (really some crazy good prices right now). It wasn’t an impulse buy, I’ve been wanting a dressy kimono type jacket so I was happy to find it today. I would not wear that dress, too shiny and blue but I could see wearing that jacket over a column of black or grey.

  15. Mary K
    January 11, 2020 / 2:33 pm

Oh wow! Love Artisan, boho style jacket! Although the yellow is overpowering for me I would try it on. I have admired Johnny Was tops for a long time. As for the dress, love the color, but haven’t worn dressed in many moons. I would prefer the jacket with jeans or crop pants.

  16. Cyndi
    January 11, 2020 / 1:17 pm

While I think this is lovely, it isn’t really ‘my’ style and wouldn’t fit ‘my’ lifestyle well enough to justify the expense of the outfit – cost per wear would be too high and it wouldn’t earn it’s closet space.

  17. Becky
    January 11, 2020 / 12:46 pm

The dress is a beautiful color, but the shape is not right for me. I prefer something more structured. The jacket is eye catching, but I likely wouldn’t buy it as I likely wouldn’t wear it often enough to justify the cost.

  18. Linda
    January 11, 2020 / 12:35 pm

The “pink lady” doesn’t help with the garish colors and no I wouldn’t wear either. Too bright for me. I don’t mind the ads.

    • Jennifer
      January 11, 2020 / 3:22 pm

      She’s rather loud isn’t she

  19. Pat
    January 11, 2020 / 12:21 pm

I would not wear either. I love the color of the dress, but style would not be flattering. Jacket is beautiful but a bit too much. I have a sheer kimono style piece that has many colors that is more muted with navy as the primary color. I wear that a lot with solid neutrals. While this stands out, I would feel silly wearing this outfit.

  20. Nancy Black
    January 11, 2020 / 11:47 am

    1. Ads are fine.
    2. I would probably not purchase either of these BUT would wear the jacket if I had it or it was given to me – not over another bright color, but over an all black outfit.

  21. beth byrd
    January 11, 2020 / 11:46 am

I really like that jacket — and I am not usually drawn to bright colors. It would look great with jeans! And, I could picture it with a black dress and boots!!

The dress isn’t my style and I’m not sure I care for the fabric — way too shiny for me.

I have to say that I’d probably not be inclined to shop at that store — the color of the mannequin is way too bright and does not appeal to me at all.

    • Jennifer
      January 11, 2020 / 3:22 pm

Thanks Beth. The mannequin certainly makes a statement.

  22. Deb
    January 11, 2020 / 11:42 am

No to this outfit. No shiny fabrics. The jacket is a one and done as it is too outstanding . I don’t mind the ads as I often look at some of them

  23. Mary Lanteigne
    January 11, 2020 / 10:50 am

I would wear the jacket, with jeans ,and a white tee, but not the dress,

  24. Elaine @ Following Augustine
    January 11, 2020 / 10:50 am

I’m trying to add more colour to my wardrobe, but that look is a bit over the top for me! As for paying to see your blog without ads, no thanks. I’m so used to seeing and ignoring ads online that they seldom bother me.

  25. Trish
    January 11, 2020 / 10:44 am

Beautiful jacket..a statement piece/not an investment piece…so limiting how many times you could wear it. Once it has been seen cant wear again???
But I would wear(casual) with all white..jean,tee, cute sandals or (dressy)all black dressy pants and shell, heels.

The shape of the dress and the volume in the jacket …. bad combination.

  26. Francie99
    January 11, 2020 / 10:39 am

I love the jacket, I think it would look great with a white T and jeans. I am not sure about the dress, I don’t wear a lot of casual dresses and I fear the fullness of this one would not look good on my short frame.

  27. Cyndi
    January 11, 2020 / 10:35 am

I love the jacket but the dress isn’t for me. That jacket could really spark up a pair of jeans?, but the price is over my budget.

  28. Susan Kay
    January 11, 2020 / 10:30 am

Love the blue dress, but not for me. I would wear jacket with jeans, white shirt or tee and red high heels

  29. Norma G
    January 11, 2020 / 10:24 am

I love the jacket and would wear it with jeans and a white or black tee. I’m not so sure about the cut of the jacket, but I love the design. However, it is way out of my budget. The only thing I even remotely like about the dress is the color.
I don’t mind the ads, I usually just scroll past them.

  30. Kate
    January 11, 2020 / 10:01 am

I would not pay for an ad free post. I just skim by them. Thanks!

  31. Eve
    January 11, 2020 / 9:30 am

Another time, another place I would have loved both pieces. I was a hippie when young. As I got older I leaned a lot more conservative in dress and now I wear mostly basics with an ocassional fun jacket with color. This one is just a bit too much fun. As for the ads, I don’t mind them.

  32. Jacqueline Bucco
    January 11, 2020 / 8:54 am

No,no to the dress and jacket!! Don’t really care for either style or colors. I dress very tailored, with lots of basic colors…..so not for me:(

  33. Joanna
    January 11, 2020 / 8:53 am

I wouldn’t even stop into a store like this. It’s bright and bohemian. I tend to stick to classic cuts and less bright colours.
I’m quite ok with the ads, Jennifer.

  34. Eileen
    January 11, 2020 / 8:43 am

    P.S. the ads are fine.

  35. Eileen
    January 11, 2020 / 8:41 am

My style is more classic, so the boho Style doesn’t suit me. As a summer I love blue, but I love matte fabrics more than shiny. I designed handwoven clothing for twenty years, and many fiber artists have sales, where you can pick up similar colorful jackets like this for less money, and support a local artist as well. The pink mannequin reminds me of one I saw in the 1960’s in a boutique, things keep coming back! He, he!

  36. Lynda
    January 11, 2020 / 8:39 am

That’s a gorgeous jacket; I’d love to have it in my closet. The dress, no thank you…it’s shapeless and just not good with the jacket. I couldn’t afford it either, but it is awfully pretty.Lynd

  37. Barbara K
    January 11, 2020 / 8:29 am

No to the dress. I can see by the picture that the dress would show every one of my figure flaws! Yes to the jacket. I would LOVE IT.

  38. Sue
    January 11, 2020 / 8:18 am

Love the jacket. The dress not so much.

  39. Penelope
    January 11, 2020 / 8:09 am

Thanks for featuring something for us Boho gals! We may be in the minority but we are alive and well and shopping! I think the proportion of the dress is wrong for the jacket and agree the jacket would be best served by a denim jean or column of black underneath. I might buy the jacket ….. on sale.
Ads not so annoying.I’ll take them over a subscription model.

    • Jennifer
      January 11, 2020 / 3:17 pm

Boho is very popular! I think I’d like it better with jeans too.

  40. Susan McClelland
    January 11, 2020 / 7:56 am

I love the jacket and would wear it everything -jeans and dresses, etc. The dress is a gorgeous colour but the fabric and the tiers would do me no favours.

  41. Dianne
    January 11, 2020 / 7:55 am

    No to the dress.
The jacket could be such fun !
I can’t imagine buying it though.

    I wouldn’t pay for an ad-free sight.
    Love your blog

  42. Donna
    January 11, 2020 / 7:49 am

I love the jacket. Definitely a statement piece. I’d wear it with all black or all white underneath. If I found the perfect shade from one of the colours in the jacket i might be brave and wear that monochromatically.

It would also look fab with jeans and a plain T-shirt.

The dress, while a beautiful colour, is not for me. I see it on a 20 something, tall, thin, bohemian styled girl, which would be perfect.

I have learned to ignore ads so keeping your site free works for me.

  43. Dawn
    January 11, 2020 / 7:45 am

No to both pieces. The shiny bright dress on the pink mannequin is just not my style. The jacket Is a statement piece but not for me….I would never wear it.
I enjoy your blog and the ads don’t bother me.

  44. Rose Brock
    January 11, 2020 / 7:43 am

I like the pink mannequin but no on the dress and jacket. I need things to be more fitted. I don’t mind the ads.

  45. Deborah Whaley
    January 11, 2020 / 7:24 am

I love the jacket! I don’t have anything like it in my closet! I don’t usually buy super colorful but this jacket is beautiful. I would wear it with pants or jeans and perhaps a simple shift dress. I don’t care for the dress though it might be nice on a casual beach vacation with simple sandals

  46. Jane
    January 11, 2020 / 7:20 am

Love the jacket. Would love the dress if it was in a soft gauze cotton or fine cotton, the drop waist and tiers would be very comfortable to wear.

  47. Phyllis Hughes
    January 11, 2020 / 7:16 am

The only ads I mind are those that “flash”. That gives me a headache, but I move by them as fast as possible.

I like the outfit, but not for me. The jacket would hang in my closet waiting for just the right occasion, and would never get worn. I’ve made that mistake before. The blue is just too bright for me and would wash me out.

  48. Carol
    January 11, 2020 / 7:12 am

I keep looking at Johnny Was and hoping for a windfall…….alas! can’t afford the beautiful pieces. However, if my fashion fairy godmother whispered in my ear that I could have that jacket it’d be on my back in a flash! Love all the wild colors and short almost-but-not-quite kimono style. It would really add pizzazz to my mostly black wardrobe (which I like, by the way). Or with the jeans that I seldom wear…….hmmmm….maybe I’d wear them more if I had the jacket.

Please no fees/charges………..love your generous and free advice. Know you need to make money, but I would not subscribe just to rid the page of ads.

  49. carolyn
    January 11, 2020 / 7:11 am

Always enjoy looking in the Johnny Was store, but I don’t buy anything. I think those vivid colors and designs attract me. A bit too pricey for something I couldn’t wear a lot.
I enjoy your blog and I do not mind the ads.

  50. Jan
    January 11, 2020 / 7:07 am

I’d definitely wear the jacket but with slim styling underneath…skinny jeans/pants and close fitting top. I love it with the blue but any neutral would work. The dress is one I’d have to try on to see if it works for me but this styling is just too “loose” over all for me.

  51. Cheryl
    January 11, 2020 / 7:05 am

I don’t care for the dress- it’s too ‘shiny’. I do like the jacket but would prefer a different shape- fitted blazer, a vest? A few people mentioned they might like a scarf with the print instead. I have one That reminds me of this so I’ll start wearing that again.

As for the ads, I’m ok with them.

  52. Maureen
    January 11, 2020 / 7:00 am

Love the jacket! It’s a statement piece! You don’t need any additional color with it. The dress would be a no. Too bright and the fabric too soft to support the jacket. Black on black for dressy. Definitely white top and a good pair of jeans for casual.

  53. Lynda davis
    January 11, 2020 / 6:50 am

That jacket is one of those things I’d probably purchase on a whim and later regret. I’d be fed up with it after one wearing. And I prefer free access to your site. I can tolerate the ads.

  54. Becky
    January 11, 2020 / 6:49 am

The ads are annoying, but I’ve learned to tune them out since they are pervasive everywhere online.

I am drawn to the bright colors of the jacket, but I think it would be a mistake in the end and would not be worn often. I don’t care for the style or fabric of the dress, although I do love the color.

  55. Linda Lennon
    January 11, 2020 / 6:38 am

I love the embroidery and the colors of the jacket but I won’t be investing in a Johnny Was jacket. I feel a piece like this is a one hit wonder for my retired, active lifestyle now. It’s too memorable. I think it would look better over slacks instead of the dress. I had never heard of Johnny Was until I moved to Southern California. My daughter received a beautiful, black tote bag with his signature embroidery on it from her MIL for Christmas. Big hit!
I would rather see the ads than pay a fee.

  56. maryellen walsh small
    January 11, 2020 / 6:15 am

If you look it up, that top is $585 dollars. Never. Readers must have far more disposable income than I do to even think of buying a jacket at that price, especially one that is not an understated, wear-a-lot piece. I like it when you feature outfits that are more reasonable. People on fixed incomes…many older women…just can’t afford expensive clothing.

Also wish you would do a column on maintaining clothing. Just ordered online a sweater shaver and a travel steamer and a new iron and hope I bought good things. Want to start taking better care of the clothes I have. I also set up a clothes drying rack in a tub that is never used to make it easier to hand wash things and lay them flat. Last, would not mind some tips on washing things. Am a clumsy laundress.

Thank you for what you do.

  57. Sharon
    January 11, 2020 / 6:04 am

Not my style. The dress is not something I would wear. The jacket I might wear with jeans and a simple t-shirt in spring only. But I wood but buy either.

  58. Rose Oelberg
    January 11, 2020 / 5:52 am

No, I love color but the dress and jacket are just not my style.
I also would not want to pay a fee, but do enjoy your daily blog.

  59. Barbara
    January 11, 2020 / 5:48 am

The jacket is cute. Sorry, but I wouldn’t pay a fee even though I enjoy your blog.

  60. MRSBEN2
    January 11, 2020 / 5:35 am

In respect to the jacket I am trying to determine where or when I would wear it and am afraid it would be one of those garments that would most likely hang in my closet seldom or if ever worn. That said; I do feel it would be appropriate for someone else who perhaps lives in a different climate/ location or has a different lifestyle from what I do and/or are into vibrant and unique. As for the dress, pretty colour however its style reminds me too much of what was fashionable (years ago) as maternity wear, so I would definitely pass on it. (Did like many items in your slide shows today!)
P.S.: As live in Canada, do not mind the ads as consider them ‘a mini catalogue of option and source’.

  61. Michele
    January 11, 2020 / 5:31 am

I no longer wear dresses, so would not have a need for this. I also do not care for the flounce at the bottom. Looks like a big ruffle which I also don’t care for. I prefer the silhouette of a shift dress or even a knit maxi dress. The color is lovely. The jacket pattern is very eye-catching and beautiful, but not for me. I prefer a more structured jacket and a pattern that doesn’t shout “look at me”. The right person and the right occasion, and this outfit is lovely.

I also don’t mind scrolling through the ads

  62. Joyce Reardon
    January 11, 2020 / 5:30 am

The colors on both are pretty, but not together. A little overwhelming to me. I’m much more classic.
The ads do t bother me at all. I hardly see them!

  63. Laura Lambdin
    January 11, 2020 / 5:25 am

I’d wear both, but not together

  64. Donna Nance
    January 11, 2020 / 5:24 am

Ha! Pepto Bismol lady! It does draw the eye to the display. The jacket reminds me of a kimono brought back from Korea after the war (conflict?) It is pretty but would look better over a column of black or a boho outfit. The dress is a pretty color but the fabric and a style would be a no for me.

  65. Nancy Hopkins
    January 11, 2020 / 5:21 am

This could really be fun to wear, especially in warner weather. The swirly skirt and vibrant colors would definitely put me in a good mood. This is something I would have worn during a siege of gray, dreary Illinois days when I was teaching to help wake up the kids and me!!!!!!!

  66. Susan
    January 11, 2020 / 5:17 am

The dress is shapeless, so I wouldn’t wesr it. As for the jacket, I am in two minds, but probably wouldn’t wear because I think the boho look of Johnny Was has had its day, unless perhaps you wore on holiday at a beach resort.

  67. Linda GR
    January 11, 2020 / 5:11 am

The articles on this mannequin do not appeal to me. I do like the jacket in the background.

  68. Gayle
    January 11, 2020 / 5:09 am

I don’t mind your ads, some blogs have TOO many! I am old, short and too big too wear that attention drawing costume. I did buy a similar top at Soft surroundings to wear with a black column, it wore me not vise versa. I try to step out of my zone but just can’t!

  69. Jmp
    January 11, 2020 / 5:08 am

    1. I am fine with paying a small monthly fee. I know you work hard and put in long hours putting your posts together. I appreciate that!!

    2. Love the jacket! I’d wear it over a black dress or skinny pants. The dress is a great color and I would wear the color, but the style is wrong for me. The “shiny ” fabric is also a no for me.

  70. Ann M
    January 11, 2020 / 5:08 am

As a Summer I look better in pastels, but I bet the jacket is very pretty when seen in person (and I’d probably be dipping the flared sleeves in my soup). At least partly due to the Pepto-Bismol lady, the whole outfit looks pretty garish. I don’t mind seeing ads… they’re such a norm these days, my eyes skip right past them.

  71. Sarah
    January 11, 2020 / 5:04 am

Not a fan of the dress….shape, shine, general slipperiness. But the jacket is cool. Could be worn seriously over black as a standout piece but I really imagine it worn art student chic with jeans layered over a boyfriend white shirt with boho jewelry and a bit worn wide brim fedora hat. Kinda fun!

  72. Jen
    January 11, 2020 / 5:03 am

I find the combination bright (I wear all black most of the time.) The dress looks great for travel (I always like comfy dresses that cover knees and (I assume) have sleeves for Europe.) Though I’d probably buy it in black! lol

I’m always fine with ads. People often balk at paywalls but I think we are used to being advertised to online. I was a vocal objector to commercializing things like depression blogs back in the day (I cut my teeth as a mommy blogger dealing with PPD back in the early oughts.) But I have no problem with ads and links on style blogs. In fact, if it makes purchasing easier, all the better!

  73. Cindy
    January 11, 2020 / 5:03 am

    I don’t mind the ads.

    I wouldn’t wear either… but if I did…

1 – Jacket – dark denim skinny ankle jeans/jeggings + quality nice fitting white t + red flats/mules + very simple longer necklace & earrings + some kind of headband/tie/wrap (maybe dark or red) + black bag

2 – Dress – that is an interesting one…there’s got to be a way… I’m pretty sure I’ll be thinking about it all day…

Not for me. This outfit looks cartoonish compared to my usual conservative dressing self. The jacket is too colorful for me. I like the color of the dress, not the style. The gathering adds weight in a bad way.

    • Jennifer
      January 11, 2020 / 7:36 am

Cartoonish is of course, a relative term 😉 It’s certainly not classic. This veers more to the bohemian style.

  75. Jayne
    January 11, 2020 / 4:47 am

The jacket is beautiful but it would be overwhelming for my classic style. The dress would not look good on my short frame.
I would enjoy browsing that shop, however! I imagine there are beautiful fabrics and designs throughout the store! Fun!
I wouldn’t pay for an ad free website.l would like more information about paying for assistance to shop my closet. I’m struggling with what to discard!

Those would not be my favorite colors or style, so would not wear. I do like the outfit behind on the right though!
I’m ok with the ads rather than a fee.

I loved that velvet duster in back 🙂

First, I don’t mind the ads. I’d prefer that rather than pay a monthly fee.
As for the outfit, I really like the colors in the jacket. However, the fabric and cut of the jacket make it look too big and bulky. I think it would look boxy and oversized on me. I really like the color of the dress but I would need to try it on to see if that style would cover a “multitude” of lumps and bumps. LOL

No on the dress. Too much for my short chunky shape. Love the print on the jacket, but it also is too much. I would prefer that print in a scarf, as I see was mentioned already.
I would not pay for an ad free post.

I love the colors! Embroidered jackets and dusters are one of my standard wardrobe items. I’d definitely try this on on as it’s hard to tell the shape based on how its styled here. I wouldn’t go for the dress, however, due to the lack of shape and length. I generally wear below the knee with some waist definition.

    I like the manequin!
I like the fabric(s) in the jacket but “my” style isn’t to do arty jackets. I’d give serious consideration to a scarf in that fabric mix.

I would rather see the ads than pay. The jacket is a little bit too bright.

Love the jacket and I think it would be so versatile. Wearing with slim jeans was my first thought, but after reading the above comments I think it could work with almost anything. I love the blue color on the dress but the style would not work on my short frame.

I would not want to pay for an ad free site.

I agree, that would be a fun way to wear it.

No way….for both the jacket and dress!!! Too gaudy!!!!! I am more of a Tailored Lady in my choice of clothes.

    Don’t mind the ads either!!!!!

Thanks for providing us more mature ladies a VERY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE BLOG!!!!!

No on the dress, but love the jacket! Would be fun with jeans and a simple T. I do not mind the ads.

I love the jacket with perhaps a minimalist body skimming black or darker color tee and matching legging or narrow skinny jean or pants. That pop of color would brighten the outfit up and just right!

That blue dress with ruffles and shimmery sheen doesn’t appeal to me nor would I Ever wear it. It’s just not my style at all (the dress).

Love the jacket and would wear it with monochrome skinny tank and pants.
The dress is a no for me, style and fabric wise, too shiny and short waisted. Kind of a pretty blue, though.
What’s up with the bright pink mannequin? Showing
how the outfit would look after falling asleep on the beach after one too many umbrella drinks?

Lol, you’re the first one to mention the “pink lady”. I found it artsy but distracting.

    1. I would rather see an occasional ad than pay a fee,
.2. The jacket is beautiful. I might wear it with jeans or white pants, but the dress isn’t a good choice for me

It would be fun with jeans.

no on the dress, but i do like the print of the jacket…however that cut on me is a no…if it were longer, or a blazer cut, id wear it in a heartbeat. i love wild stuff like that!

I love the jacket and would wear it with jeans or dressier trousers. The color of the dress is beautiful, but I am not sure about the fabric or what the dress really looks like. I tend to not wear shiny fabrics in large quantity.

The colors in both of these pieces are beautiful. But they are a bit too bright for me to wear.

Love color in general, but shy away from a large bold print. If the jacket were paired with modern looking blue Jean’s I might consider, but not with the dress. Love the color of the dress, but not the style or material at my age of 63.

The jacket would be perfect to wear in San Antonio in April at a Fiesta celebration! Otherwise, it does not meet my style adjectives, so I would not wear it. But, that blue color is gorgeous and will be big this spring.
