Would You Wear It-Plaid Pants

Would You Wear It-Plaid Pants

Welcome to the weekend. It’s time for would you wear it with my friend Pam. Each week we share a mannequin we have seen and ask our readers if they would wear what it’s wearing. We do this to learn more about your fashion and style needs and encourage conversation between our readers.

Please tell us why you would or wouldn’t wear this look.

Here is a close up of the pattern mix.

So tell me, ladies, would you wear this look?

How would you style it to make it work for you, your silhouette and your lifestyle?

Here are a few weekend sale updates-

Chico’s – 30% off your purchase with the code 85759. I walked in their fashion show this week bought this ruana in Kings Navy, these Knit Denim Ankle pants (so comfy), this Tunic, and this necklace. I looked online and see that I need this belt to wear with this outfit:)

Talbots – 25% off sweaters, excluding cashmere. Sweater Jackets are a fabulous alternative to structured blazers. This one comes in 6 gorgeous colors and the full range of sizes. This one has rounded lapels and hemline, available in 7 colors. I love the herringbone pattern on this sweater blazer.  It would look so great with gray jeans or go to the office over black trousers or skirt.

Ann Taylor – 40% off 3 full-priced items, 30% off 2 full-priced items and 20% off one item with the code HELLOFALL. This Leopard coat looks amazing! I’ve been on the hunt to replace one I finally had to donate and will be trying this one on. #clothesdohaveanexpirationdate. This Shawl Collar Wrap Coat looks amazing. I love that it’s navy and has pockets!

J.Crew – 30% off wear to work styles and 25% off full-price styles with the code THATWORKS. This is excluded from the promo and selling out fast, but if you love leopard and cashmere, this sweater may have your name all over it.

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing here.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I like this look. The tiny stripe blouse with plaid/windowpane pants work, I Think. Because of these subdued colors I find the different patterns don’t interfere it compete. I wouldn’t add a thing. I like my clothes simple and clean. Some may add a scarf or necklace, but not for me. Just a cute boot!

No, my bottom half is too big & I think the plaid would just emphasize it. I do like the blouse & would wear it with solid pants.

I would wear the pants with a dark solid, pull over sweater or short sweater set to adjust the proportion for my 5’3” frame. I could not wear the blouse and sweater in these colors (and shapes) as they would wash me out due to my silver/white hair and olive skin.

What a nice ensemble! I think I would wear it anywhere. Of course a short boot completes it.

Short boots would be so fun with this

  4. September 21, 2019 / 4:18 am

I would try them on but typically I prefer a slimmer leg. I like plaid pants if the cut is right!

No I wouldn’t wear this outfit. It would overwhelm my 5t body and it screams old lady.

I would try it, although the colors of the blouse and cardigan may not be that flattering. Grays and beiges tend to wash me out so maybe a navy, tan or maroon/wine sweater would be better on me and the pants are neutral enough to wear with lots of colors. I’m usually not a fan of pattern mixing, but these hang together really well. I like the mix of textures as well. I wouldn’t button the blouse all the way—I find more of a v shape looks better, so I’d leave a button or two undone. My hips are relatively narrow so plaid or patterned pants are a good choice and this look give an illusion of a waist so long cardis with a blouse and patterned pants are sort of a go-to look for me.

Beautiful. I would definitely wear that outfit

I love plaid in the fall! It makes me feel cozy and…well, Scottish. Being roughly the same size as our hostess though, the pattern on the plaid pants is too large for me. I try to keep things more in proportion to my size or else I feel like I’m a little kid wearing my mom’s clothes. So the pants in a smaller scale plaid with a lightweight black cashmere turtleneck and long necklace. And I wouldn’t wear the ruana. They’re becoming so passé. And they make me look even shorter.

I like the dark plaid. I would wear the paints if they were a straight leg. As shown they are too full for me. I would replace the striped blouse and sweater with a black turtleneck sweater and a long necklace.

I would wear a plaid pant with a slimmer leg, or even leggings, with a tunic sweater instead of blouse and cardigan. Love wearing plaid in the fall and winter.

I like the look but I like a slimmer pant leg.

I love plaid…and have tried plaid pants on many times, but being bottom heavy they emphasize all the wrong areas. It’s important that the plaid lays straight on the leg so that it does emphasize my thighs and the plaid matches at the seams so that it creates one consistent clean line. Fo me most plaid pants just don’t measure up.

Would I wear this? Probably not as is but, a few tweeks would help. First, the pants would need to be about 3-4 inches longer and cover my ankles and shoes to the top of the heel of my shoes. Second, the sweater would need to be a color to match the pants since I prefer the contrast between the blouse and the sweater over the way it is presented here. Third, I think a different collar on the blouse would do much to enhance the look.

  15. Kathy
    September 21, 2019 / 6:20 am

No, it doesn’t appeal to me.
I don’t think the style or the color of the blouse work well with the sweater. I particularly dislike the collar on the blouse combined with the shapeless, over-sized sweater. It looks sloppy.
I’m not fond of the short, wide-bottomed pants (yet), but think a more fitted, contrasting shell would pull the outfit together in a more flattering way.

Slimmer leg pants with black or dark gray turtleneck sweater with long necklace for me!

I wouldn’t wear this outfit as pictured. I don’t care for the collar on the blouse, and would prefer a smaller print and narrower leg on the pant. However with this being said, if I walked in this store, I would ask the salesperson
if she had the cardigan in a light to medium blue with same color blouse. I think for accessories I’d add red/burgundy jewelry and black ankle leather boots, and burgundy handbag.

I love fall and look forward to breaking out the plaids every year. This look is just my style and color palette. Since I’m short & don’t wear heels anymore I would wear a straight leg version of these pants.

This outfit would look amazing on a friend of mine who is tall, slender, well endowed in the bust and has a long torso however I would not choose it for myself. Reasons being: a) I don’t wear mandarin collars so the neckline would have to be different in the blouse b) the length of the pants would either have to be shorter to be worn with longer boots or have a longer inseam to be paired with a stylish shoe or bootie and c) as I personally feel frumpy and lost in ‘long’ sweater cardigans that are boxy in style would much prefer a sleeveless sweater vest as an overlay in its place. Do like the mix of patterns and textures though and the colors being neutral; would also be very versatile IMHO. -Brenda-

  20. September 21, 2019 / 7:20 am

I like the plaid, but I’d prefer a straighter leg. I think the stripe in the blouse looks fine with the plaid, but the neckline is wrong for me. Overall, the outfit looks a bit blah. Perhaps it needs accessories or just a pop of colour somewhere.

I like the outfit but with a slimmer cut pant leg. A boot would look great

This is a plaid I actually do like. I would keep this look monochrome, though, with a charcoal gray vest and shirt. I never wear patterns on bottom because of my pear shape, but this would make it work.

  23. Dawn
    September 21, 2019 / 7:33 am

I would wear the pants if they were longer and narrower. The shirt and sweater would not compliment my skin tones however I do like stripes and plaid together, but not this is for me.

Like this outfit for the most part. Would wear it but the pant would need to be longer. Would add a necklace.

Love the colors & own an oversized oatmeal sweater that’s very similar. I wore it quite a bit in the not too cold desert last winter. I like the pants but notice they have belt loops san a belt which means I would need to wear a belt or wear a top to cover those loops.

This might work for me. I am an apple shape, so emphasizing the bottom half evens out my proportions. I like the subtle, soft, blended quality of the plaid

  27. Sharon
    September 21, 2019 / 8:25 am

Yes, however I’d replace the oversized cardigan and shirt with a sweater set that was more tailored and add ankle booties. Perhaps an infinity scarf to pull the look together.

I like that styling idea, Sharon

The plaid is beautiful, but the pant legs are too wide for my taste. (Even if I liked wide legs, the fabric doesn’t hang right; it seems too light weight to me.) I’d use a soft mauve sweater, left untucked, with a dark grey ruana. (There is a mauvish stripe in the plaid, right?)

  29. Martha
    September 21, 2019 / 8:48 am

I love the plaid, but I don’t love the shape of these pants. They are a little too flared for my taste. They hit at a weird spot on the leg/ankle.

  30. Judy Stull
    September 21, 2019 / 9:15 am

Wide-leg pants would overwhelm me, so no to the pants. Also, I would prefer a smaller plaid. Sweater is a bit baggy.

Love the Ann Taylor shawl wrap collar coat!

  32. Lea
    September 21, 2019 / 10:07 am

Love the pants, (have similar) but would wear different colours and shapes of shirt and topper with them. More colours, this is a bit blah for my taste. A long white shirt with a mustard sweater pullover would be an option, funky booties so it doesn’t look too “classic”. The colour of the pants makes it easy to wear any colour one wishes! So much fun… but it always depends on the texture of the fabric and the fit. I’d give these pants a try.

  33. SusanM
    September 21, 2019 / 10:17 am

I really like the plaid pants. The colours would fit nicely into my wardrobe and provide an option to grey and Black pants (my staples). I would need to try them one to see if the wide leg would suit me – depends on the pant. I would pair the pants with a black or dark grey top – maybe a long sweater? And definitely a pair of boots.

I like the sweater, and I like the blouse, just not together…the pants need a bit more structure, i do like the print and the colors…but wouldnt wear all three of these items together…

    September 21, 2019 / 11:11 am

Attractive (not sensational) outfit that I could wear as is, but could also use all 3 pieces in different outfits. The length of the pants looks just a tad short on the mannequin but I think on my slightly shorter legs, that length would be just right. I would be checking the plaid match at the side seams – matching is a must for me to purchase.

  36. Linda
    September 21, 2019 / 11:30 am

I would wear the pants and shirt, but probably not together. I prefer to wear solids with plaids. The sweater is not the right shape for me. I’d prefer a blazer or shorter jacket. I’d also wear the pants with booties.

Probably not as I am on the petite side, but it looks expensive, and well made.

  38. Becky
    September 21, 2019 / 12:02 pm

I like this pattern mix, but I don’t like the fullness at the bottom of the pants. If the legs were a bit slimmer, I would try it.

  39. Beth byrd
    September 21, 2019 / 12:51 pm

Those plaid pants are wonderful. But because they are cropped, I’d have to wear a shorter sweater — but I do like the color of the sweater pictured here. I like the blouse, too.

I’m wondering what type of footwear would go with this look? Flats, boots?

    September 21, 2019 / 4:12 pm

I like the look on the model. The wrap is not for me as I look swamped in long loose fabric. If the pants looked good on me I would buy them. They are not over the top plaid that would swamp my small frame. I like the blouse but I think would wear it with plain pants.

  41. SusieP
    September 21, 2019 / 5:14 pm

My recommendation….swap out the textured blouse with a solid of the same color and the look is solid !

  42. Ellen
    September 21, 2019 / 6:52 pm

Needs more color! A periwinkle sweater rather than the grey. Love the pants and blouse, but needs a shot of color to make it interesting.

  43. September 22, 2019 / 12:05 pm

I love plaid pants. Have lots, usually wear with a solid color top. The blouse is nice. Would wear that with lots of other items. The seater is too saggy ,baggy for me at this time in y life. Would prefer a more structured coat or jacket. The colors in that pair of pants are rather dreary too. Prefer a more definite pattern in plaid.

  44. Lois Williams
    September 23, 2019 / 10:06 pm

No the colors are just to drab for me – blonde & fair skinned. I’m 5’11” and that length is just not very flattering. I do like the plaid & I’ve added some flowing slacks to my fall wardrobe. So longer or gaucho length would be good with a blue grey sweater and silver statement necklace or blue grey blouse with dark grey long duster, same necklace.
