Would You Wear It – Statement Red

Would You Wear It – Statement Red

Happy Saturday ladies and welcome to your weekend. It’s raining here so we are settling in for a cozy weekend inside, with some new books and a special decaf pumpkin tea we picked up at Murchie’s last week. It’s better than it sounds:)

It’s time for would you wear it so grab another cup of your favorite coffee or tea and let’s get to it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we have come across randomly,  and ask if you would wear what it’s wearing. I love you to also share your styling ideas in the comments to help inspire others.

I do love red, and love the coat, so yes, I would wear it. My favorite red is a deep, cranberry red. I stay away from orange-y reds. Red is great for adding that pop of color in the winter!

I like red coats on others but have never bought one. This one is appearing magenta on my screen. Blue reds are the ones that look best on me. The style would not be for me for several reasons. If it did not come in petite the button would hit at my hips. Drop shoulders do not suit me, finally figured out why so many things I took off the racks disappointed me when I tried them on. Last but not least our winters are too cold to have such a deep V collar and only a one button closing. Hoping for a long Fall.

Absolutely! Living in the Pacific Northwest, I have always had a red coat, usually a red raincoat! It brings cheer to a dreary day.

I love a red coat or jacket! This one looks oversized though. I prefer a more tailored fit. The column of colour underneath is one I wear often. Love the boots! As to the bag, I prefer a more structured purse that can also be worn on the shoulder or cross body freeing up the hands.

I love the red coat. Perfect for Nebraska as we always wear red to support our Husker teams.
I also think it is better than black as the winters get long here and red always cheers me up.

Love the whole outfit. It would get plenty of use here in Cape Cod MA. The colors are wonderful.

Yes, looks great and would be practical too. Red is visible in snow, rain and every other yucky weather pattern we can look forward to!

I think you have a winner here- lots of thumbs up!
I love the coat, but I don’t care for bootcut pants, so I would opt for a slim leg. I would also wear it with gray or navy.

I LOVE it and would wear it faithfully. I have two red coats now. I wear them with anything because they make me feel good every time I put them on! My personal style guide is what makes me feel good … if it makes me smile, I’m wearing it!

I still regret not purchasing a red coat with black frog closings—remember those?! My sister in law offered to get it for me and I could do installment payments, but I felt I had to decline. To this day I wish I had that coat.
The best part about a red coat is that it brightens everyone’s bleak day as you wear it and go about your business. You’re a bright spot in a usually otherwise drab landscape.

I do have a hot pink one that I wear quite a bit. It’s fleece tho’, so altho’ good for cool days, not ideal for freezing days when I have to haul out my black coat with the fox collar.

I love red coats. Over the years, I have had a few. They brighten up the day and my mood. I would absolutely wear this coat maybe with a black and white buffalo plaid scarf or a Christmas one for the holidays.

There’s just something about red! I would wear it with my brown denim pants and leopard boots. Probably wouldn’t get a chance though. Our lowest daytime is 60 degrees usually with plenty of sunshine so I don’t own an actual coat.

Absolutely yes to the colour! I love the look of this coat, but I’d want to try it on and feel the fabric. I’m also unsure about the one button closure. I live where I need a coat for warmth, so I’d probably want something that closes more completely.

    October 10, 2020 / 6:52 am

I do like this, even though the fabric doesn’t look like one I’d bumpy a coat in- it still looks lovely and cozy and relaxed. I’d probably wear it with my black dress- it’s very tailored and kind of severe, and this would be a great contrast!

My heart lifted at the very sight of this coat. I daringly bought a red coat whilst in Belgium two years ago, and cautiously wore it around Calgary at first, then I received compliments every single time I was out in it. I’m enjoying it very much this brilliant fall season and endorse your message to wear what makes you feel good. If you feel good in your clothes, sure thing you will look good, and the feel good factor is no small aspect of supporting overall mental health. Thanks for your web site Jennifer, this is my first post and I’ve been inspired by it and by you during this Covid time.

I love this coat. However, I am very allergic to wool, so I’d be itchy after about 2 mins of wearing it.

  25. Eileen
    October 10, 2020 / 6:05 am

Red coats are fun, but not for my coloring. The fabric looks too thick for my frame, I prefer a softer drape. If I was tall and wore red well, I would wear it with white jeans, white sweater, and white sneakers, sort of a high low look.

I love this red coat! I had a beautiful red wool coat with detachable button hood. I wore it for years when I was teaching – great for bus duty in the winter. I got it out after Thanksgiving and usually wore it through February. I had it drycleaned after every season of wearing and it looked like new. When I retired, I gave it to my daughter who continues to wear it. And the best – I got it half price when local boutique owners were retiring!!!!!!🥰

I would be very happy to wear this coat. I had a red jacket once and always got compliments on it. Would style this with a big black leather shoulder bag with gold or silver hardware and most definitely a large bright scarf wore loosely undear the lapels.

Of Course, I would wear RED. As long as the shade is a pretty colour & Not that Orangy Red that was popular during the 1970’s. — “Fire Engine Red”, or my favorite; RUBY RED! [Have a long sleeved red, cable knit sweater dress with flippy styled skirt that’s worn during the Christmas Holiday season.] Keeps me warm and toasty. A coat(?) a little daring for my preference.

I try to always have a red coat in my wardrobe! It makes me feel happy even in miserable weather, and also makes others feel better, or so the comments I get when wearing it indicate.

In the two and a half years I have lived in SoCal I haven’t worn a coat at all! If I were back in NY I would definitely wear the entire outfit. A big splash of red always looks spectacular around the holidays in NYC. Tree lighting, store holiday displays and a twirl around the ice rink at Rockefeller center will sadly not happen this year but if it were to happen this is the outfit to wear.

Definitely! My favorite coat is a beautiful red cashmere blend coat I’ve had for a number of years. Only problem is it doesn’t get cold enough in California’s Bay Area to wear it often. I also have a magenta color coat I love.

i was reading the comments, I had a red London Fog also, and I loved it, wore it for ages. Even had a red fedora! ah, the old days, lol.
I do like the color red, my car is even red! but i would find this particular coat too bulky, and too shapeless.
i think the material might disapoint over time as well…looks like it might pill very easy.

I love the coat and it would keep me so warm during our cold winters up here in Massachusetts. I do not love the color red, though and it’s not one of the colors that look best on me. If it was blue and fit well , I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Have a great day, Jennifer. Love your blog.

I’m afraid it is a ‘no’ for myself as though do love red, cannot wear it so only choose it in accessories. On the same note though, I prefer the deeper ruby-red tones to the orange-red shades. As to the style/cut itself, I could see it being beneficial if one had to under-lay with heavier garments unlike that which you do not have to do with a down-filled coat and/or possibly get a few years of wear out of it if you happen to put on an extra little weight. With respect to its fabric, it appears to be a bouclé boiled wool which I do own a 3/4 length coat of and find it somewhat heavy in weight so isn’t that comfortable to wear for any lengthy period at the age I am. As to the flared ankle length pants; would pass on them as well as just not practical for our rainy Fall or snowy Winters.

Years ago, I wore the heck out of a red, London Fog coat! I loved that coat and felt the color was perfect for me. My mother bought a beautiful, red “car coat” but it spent most of its life in her closet.
I really like the color, fabric, collar and length of this coat. As another reader mentioned, I am not sure why they added that style of sleeves. The dropped shoulder and pleated wrist take away from the otherwise gorgeous coat.
I am a bit torn if I would buy a red coat today. I am afraid that it too would stay safely tucked into the back of my closet. Maybe, it’s the overall change in my hair, skin and makeup coloring that would not stand up to the bright red color today.
Maybe too, it’s that old confidence issue that I struggle with…
Our huge maple tree is really showing off her red colors this year! Lol

Great point! Red is certainly a statement and makes one very visible so you need to feel confident to wear this much of it.

Yes, I’d wear the coat. I’d size it down because, like other readers, I am very petite. Even an xxs would be loose-ish, but that could be fun over short chunky sweaters. My very buttoned up structured coats with a lean silhouette get tiresome after a while. I almost always wear a column of color, so black, gray or navy ( jeans too)underneath. Even very dark pine green! Even camel on some one else who has different coloring. So Jennifer- who makes the coat? What store?

I love this coat. I think it’s perfect in every way. I am petite and can see myself wearing this. I have a coat with the same cut and style that is black and white checks. The red is so cheery. I would be drawn to it if I saw it in a store.

Yes and yes to this coat! Red us perfect as we enter the sometimes gloomy weather in later fall or early winter weather. Even if the weather is great, red complements the mood then too. Love it!
In addition to black, would look great with blues or even grey. How about with pink?
This gives me lots of ideas!

I adore red coats and have a gorgeous wool one i bought last year. The collar on this one is too big for me being petite, and it’s a little too slouchy, and I am not sure about the nubbly fabric. I like the black mockneck and the black column look but would add slimmer pants and do a leopard crossbody bag.
    Any book recommendations Jennifer?

I love red coats and have included them in my wardrobe several times. This one looks a little boxy for me and is the wrong length. Either shorter or longer works better. Great shade of red, though.

I have two red coats, a structured full length wool coat and a raincoat. I love them both. I don’t love THIS coat because of the shape. It looks too boxy for me and I’m only 5 ft tall and that big shape would overwhelm my smaller frame. I’d be interested in knowing what books you’re reading.

I love that cheery red coat and would definitely wear it! The collar would be very flattering – I do not like coat collars that stand up and make me claustrophobic 🙂
