Would You Wear It- Tropical Crops

Would You Wear It- Tropical Crops

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend ladies. I am likely up a ladder right now painting my closet. Unfortunately, I am that disorganized woman who had a new closet system installed before the dirty walls got painted. #timingiseverything. We move in one week and I’m not the least bit ready. It makes me wonder if I sweat too many details. Yup, I do.

It’s time for would you wear it. Each Saturday, my friend Pam and I share a mannequin from a local store and ask if you could wear it.

So tell me, ladies. Would you wear this and why or why not. Please explain.

Here are a few weekend sale updates-

Chico’s is having a 40% off everything sale with the code 43847. The store didn’t have several things I wanted so I came home and ordered these.

Talbots is also having a 40% off sale with the code FRIENDS. Below are my sale picks.

Macy’s is giving 50% off dresses with the code FLASH. Here are a few picks for casual wear.

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing here.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

I’m not sure about the print on the pants, but everything is saying hello to me…. so I would push myself to try them on in this print lol
    Love it all!
Jennifer, what doesn’t get done before the move, will get done after? I know, I know… no fun.
Good luck with the move and hopefully the temps won’t be sky-high that day.

    June 22, 2019 / 4:10 am

No, I wouldn’t wear these crops. My bottom half is much wider than my top half, so I don’t want to call that much attention to it.
Good luck with the painting & moving!

I love the print and would wear them. Most of my blouses are solid colors so the would pair nicely with these bottoms. I love the playful print for summertime.

    June 22, 2019 / 4:22 am

Adorable, yes I would! I’m eyeing the printed pants on Jcrew and Madewell, but like these more because of the closer fit. Solid tops, print bottom = loads of fun. I’m seeing similar colorways everywhere this season.

No, I wouldn’t wear the print crops because of where I live, just north of Detroit. No one seems to wear prints here and I would stand out too much. I might wear them on vacation in a tropical area, though. Have fun painting, I’m doing that, too!

  6. June 22, 2019 / 4:36 am

No, I would never wear these tropical pants. Because I am somewhat heavy, I never wear patterned panrs at all! I wear only black, navy or white pants. The white denim jacket is very nice. I would definitely wear that.

  7. June 22, 2019 / 4:39 am

Thumbs up to everything but the floral crops. I’m not a fan if overall floral like this……a little geometric, maybe? Nothing large……

  8. Amy
    June 22, 2019 / 4:40 am

I love them and yes I would wear them exactly as styled, so fun and summery. Good luck painting and moving.

    June 22, 2019 / 4:46 am

I would not wear these. The print is too big and loud and I don’t wear capri length. I own several pair of cotton print cropped (to the ankle) pants. I wear those on hot days with fitted solid color t shirts. The white pants on the left are more my style. The necklace is too big for my taste.

  10. Deborah Broughton
    June 22, 2019 / 5:00 am

I love the top, the jacket and the necklace but though I am attracted to the print , I don’t think I’d wear them. Like others I carry some weight in my legs . I think everything on the top half of the model would be great over black, khaki or white capris.

    June 22, 2019 / 5:09 am

Cropped pants to me scream “woman of a certain age”, so I never wear them in print or solids. I do love the fun tropical print and would definitely wear it in another article of clothing though. It’s fun and happy.

  12. Leslie
    June 22, 2019 / 5:12 am

I would definitely wear these pants. I love the pattern. Summer clothes should be fun and these are fun.

I instantly recognized this outfit as Chico’s. That’s my favorite store! Probably 95% of my closet is filled with Chico’s clothes. That being said, I probably wouldn’t wear these crop pants simply because that’s where I carry most of my weight. This print would just make my hips and thighs look even bigger. However, for those who like this print, Chico’s offers this same print in a top and in a jacket. The white denim jacket is a wardrobe staple and is already in my closet along with several white tees from Chico’s. Love, love, love their clothes!

Thanks for the heads up about the print!

    June 22, 2019 / 5:20 am

Love the print of the pants and would sign up in a second. However, crop pants are the least flattering cut for almost any body (except the mannequin)😊. The hit right at the largest part of the calf. If these were ankle pants I’d be in!

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 7:10 am

Thanks Cynthia. I can’t wear crops either.

  15. Eve
    June 22, 2019 / 5:39 am

I just shy away from prints unless there are in a scarf and never florals. I just feel more comfortable in solids. I love everything but the pants though. I do own a pair of tiny, navy blue/white /stripe seersucker pants thst I love. If the stripe is small I feel okay with it.

  16. Laura
    June 22, 2019 / 5:47 am

Love the print and style but it would depend on the fabric. I am not a fan of super stretchy synthetic blends, especially for summer. Just too hot. If they are all cotton then would give them a try.
Overall, the outfit is adorable and really reads Summer!

  17. Pat
    June 22, 2019 / 5:49 am

I would not wear the pants. The floral print is just too much and I don’t like to stand out. I am not a Chico fan anyway. I don’t wear white as it washes me out so I go for a more creamy look. I think the outfit is very nice looking on the right figure and personality. I am a big Talbots fan so that probably says something. No this is not my kind of clothing!

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 7:06 am

Cream with white isn’t everyone’s favorite combo. For some it looks subtle for others it looks just off. Chico’s does have quite a different vibe than Talbots but there are some crossover shapes.

  18. RoseAG
    June 22, 2019 / 5:52 am

Yes on the jacket and T-shirt but not with these pants b/c the pants are cream and the jacket white.
I have a thing about mixing cream and white.

I have picked up a number of floral pants from good brands at my local thrift. I like them, but since they seem to get given away regularly I don’t buy them retail 🙂 I think they are appealing but hard to work up into an outfit as I always seem to be searching for a sweater or top that will “go” with them.

    June 22, 2019 / 5:58 am

Love the look . It’s fun and a welcomed change from black and white and jeans !

  20. Diane B
    June 22, 2019 / 6:02 am

I would certainly wear those pants, I love the print and really don’t care if no one else is wearing that. I would wear a white or light linen top untucked as I carry most of my weight around the middle lately. Might shorten the pants a couple inches (or try the petites if the rise worked). Good luck with the move.

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 7:02 am

I’m happy to hear you wear what you love without worrying about others opinions. Bravo Diane and thanks.

  21. Pam
    June 22, 2019 / 6:33 am

Not only would I, but I do. I bought a pair from Chico’s last year that I have worn a lot. I get compliments on them each time I wear them. The trick is to find a print that looks good on YOU. I tried several pairs before I found the right print.

  22. Mindy
    June 22, 2019 / 6:54 am

I would wear the if they were a tad shorter be and a smaller print. I like the colors but I am short so that length and that bold a print would not look good on me. Love you Jennifer!

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 6:59 am

Your styling idea sounds spot on for you Mindy! Have a great weekend.

  23. June 22, 2019 / 6:56 am

I wore a similar look on my blog yesterday! So yes! I would wear this.

  24. Janet
    June 22, 2019 / 7:05 am

No I wouldn’t wear this. I feel overwhelmed by large prints in any clothing. The jacket is shapeless and the whole outfit just wouldn’t fit my lifestyle. It’s too casual for the office, and like the person from Detroit said, it doesn’t seem to suit the climate/environment where I live.

  25. June 22, 2019 / 7:09 am

They’re cute but I’m not sure I’d wear them. Although I’m attracted to the colors & print,I’m not sure I’d wear them once I got them home. I’m more apt to wear geometric patterns!

  26. Bab
    June 22, 2019 / 7:20 am

Would not wear them. The big print is the first thing you see in the photo – I would rather bring attention upward. Plus these loud print take me back to the 70’s …… you are not supposed to repeat a style that has come back around so I’ve heard…..right?

  27. Juliet
    June 22, 2019 / 7:23 am

Hmmmm … I’m not sure. I don’t hate it. I think if the pants were full length I could be swayed! xo

  28. June 22, 2019 / 7:31 am

I would wear this pattern if I thought they would fit. Because I have a thick waist and smaller hips, they would have to have an elasticized waist. I do have 2 pair of crop pants with a print on them – one is a black and white floral print, and the other is a royal blue and white batik style print. I wear both of them all summer long! They both have wider legs than what is shown here.

  29. Sue G
    June 22, 2019 / 7:38 am

Love this look and would definitely wear the pants. I have a similar pair I bought last year at SteinMart and they are great for a business casual day. I wold not wear the white and cream because I washed out in those tones but white with a teal or turquoise yes.
Hope the painting gets done before the movers arrive. I’m sure there’s still lots of work to do but there is something satisfying with coming to the end of the moving journey.

  30. June 22, 2019 / 7:39 am

I’ve never worn patterned pants, but I love the colours in this pair and might be tempted to try them on. If the fabric and fit felt right to me, I might just step outside my comfort zone and wear them. I already have similar white t-shirt and jacket, but I haven’t worn them together as that much white close to my face makes me look washed out.

Good luck with the move! I look forward to hearing that you’re settled into your new home.

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 6:12 pm

Thanks Elaine. I think it’s fun to step out of our comfort zone. I’m often pleasantly surprised when I do.

  31. June 22, 2019 / 7:45 am

No, the print is too large for me, as for the jacket, I’ve tried on many denim jackets and for some reason they just don’t do it for me. I love them on everyone else!

  32. Rose
    June 22, 2019 / 8:11 am

I would love to wear this outfit if I had the nerve! I’ve never worn pants with a print like that but it would be fun for summer. Good luck on the move!

  33. Rose

  34. Griselle Camacho-Claudio
    June 22, 2019 / 8:17 am

The tops are fine, the print pants I don’t love but I would wear a different print pants in a longer length

  35. June 22, 2019 / 8:46 am

Absolutely not. I rarely wear pattern, especially not on the bottom and anything that looks like it was purchased at Hilo Hatties no thank you. Can’t go wrong with a white denim jacket though. Love that blue statement necklace from Chicos! Great post as always!

  36. Kate
    June 22, 2019 / 8:58 am

I have a pear shape and heavy legs, so skirts, shorts, cropped/Capri/ankle/skinny pants are a no in any color or pattern. These remind me of something pushed off on old ladies of my mom’s generation. This jacket looks very boxy, but I have a more fitted white denim jacket that I love. I pair it with bootcut jeans.

  37. Linda
    June 22, 2019 / 9:12 am

Nope. No patterned bottoms for me!

  38. Peggy Pyron
    June 22, 2019 / 9:26 am

I would not wear the crops because the print is too big. With a different print, the outfit as a whole would be something I would def wear.

  39. Teresa
    June 22, 2019 / 9:46 am

Love the pattern but I would not wear it due to my body shape needing emphasis to be on the top half of my body not the bottom.

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 5:52 pm

      Thanks for sharing why Teresa.

  40. Darlene
    June 22, 2019 / 9:53 am

I would wear everything except the necklace – just not my style. I’m going to check the denim jacket today. been looking for a white denim jacket since March and maybe this is the one.

  41. Kay
    June 22, 2019 / 10:28 am

I like that shirt/jacket. Pockets! A big no on the pants. That print is too much for me.

  42. Linda Etter
    June 22, 2019 / 11:02 am

I love the denim jacket! Printed pants-NO! (Unless you are tiny, which I am not). The necklace is ok, but a bit too chunky for my taste. This outfit would look nice on someone, just not me.

  43. Linda
    June 22, 2019 / 11:10 am

No. They would not look very good on anyone over a size 4. I am way over that limit!

  44. Becky
    June 22, 2019 / 11:12 am

I would definitely wear the jacket & the top. The jacket looks fairly light weight, so it would be a nice completer piece for summer. The white top is practical & could be worn with anything. The necklace is one of those items that I would have to see & handle before making a decision. The crops are a no because they are the wrong length for my body type, & the bold print would draw too much attention to areas that I wouldn’t want to emphasize.

  45. Penelope
    June 22, 2019 / 11:57 am

Yes. I don’t like the colors in the pants or where some of the pattern elements are placed but prints on the bottom not a problem for me. I like the basic top items.
Women who are heavier on the bottom might want to try a pant in a patterned print. The pattern can actually visually break up the body size and be visually slenderizing. Just give it a try for fun. Can’t be any worse than trying on swimsuits! 😫

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 5:50 pm

Nothing, and I mean nothing is worse than trying on swimsuits for me.

  46. Eileen
    June 22, 2019 / 12:23 pm

No I wouldn’t wear these. I don’t care for prints, especially large prints.

  47. Marilyn
    June 22, 2019 / 1:09 pm

I don’t mind the pants but I would go with a coloured top picking out one of the colours in the pants. A bit wishy washy with the white

  48. Freda Witt
    June 22, 2019 / 1:23 pm

I would wear the print pants if they were palazzo pants. The rest of the outfit would be ok.

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 5:48 pm

They would be cool in palazzo pants in a lightweight, flowy fabric.

  49. Donna Doyle
    June 22, 2019 / 2:16 pm

I own one pair of printed pants that I bought last year at Chico’s and I enjoyed wearing them. I like this outfit and would wear it as it is styled. Sometimes you need to break out of your comfort zone and this one is worthy of that.

  50. Janet
    June 22, 2019 / 3:33 pm

Yes! Summer prints plus colour I love = me!
Laughed at the closet dilemma! In my case I am waiting to get into my new home next Saturday and just decided to reno the whole closet before putting clothes in. I have no idea where all these clothes are going in the meantime! Good luck!

    June 22, 2019 / 4:01 pm

The pants remind me of a pair Of green leaf pants had about 20 years ago and wore only on vacation. My teen age son called them my “salad pants” and I hesitated to wear print pants ever again! I love Chico’s but is summer fashion all about tropical prints? Looks funny in the S.F. Bay Area!

    • Jennifer
      June 22, 2019 / 5:43 pm

No, summer isn’t just about tropical. It’s what ever we each want to make it. Luckily there’s lots of options 🙂

  52. Pamela
    June 22, 2019 / 6:18 pm

Yes, yes, yes! I definitely would wear this outfit! I own a few pairs of tropical print crops & I wear a white tee & either a white denim or blue denim jacket as well. Love this style of dressing, it is a go to for summer! I finish off the outfit by wearing white sneakers!
    Casual but classy!

    • Jennifer

      White sneakers would be perfect!

Jennifer, getting the new house “together” as you like it will take time. I know, patience is a bear, lol. Been a year and I’m still working on getting things just right in my new place. Of course, just as you did, the closet organizer was installed the day I closed but the walls have yet to be painted. The entire outfit screams fun in the sun and definitely I’d wear. In fact, my fashion urge is crying out to purchase these crops as soon as I saw them. Perfect for the heat to come. We are already sweltering here in Florida and it’s only June so the tropical colors are begging me to bring out the credit card and do my check out. Since Chico’s seems to have irregular fitting clothing, guess I need to go down and try them on at my local store. Thank goodness they are open on Sunday and are 5 minutes from home. I’ll come back and purchase through your link as I understand well how the blog links work to help pay the fees. Thank you so much for this Would You Wear it Saturday while being busy with the move.

    • Jennifer
      June 23, 2019 / 12:05 pm

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who make timing decisions like this:) We are unseasonably warm here too! I am bound and determined to have that closet painted before I have to fill it but I am running out of time and there are sooo many things to do. Have a fun Sunday.xx

  54. Dianne Gordon
    June 22, 2019 / 11:24 pm

No I wouldn’t wear the pants as my butt is to big ,but I think the outfit would look better if the tee shirt was airforce blue .

  55. Sandy
    June 23, 2019 / 2:47 pm

I think clothes look great in one locale and then not so great in another. Case in point – these tropical crops. I’d wear them on vacation in Florida and they’d fit right in. I wouldn’t wear them on my upcoming Alaskan Cruise.

  56. Susan McClelland
    June 23, 2019 / 4:24 pm

I’m not sure about the pants – more a question of the colour than the pattern. I have several pars of patterned crops, including florals. I like the jacket and the shirt on the mannequin.

  57. Sheila-Merle Johnson
    June 23, 2019 / 8:30 pm

Sitting on my sofa yesterday evening, I had a great laugh. I was wearing a very similar outfit that I have just posted on my Instagram account @sheilamerle1. My pants were $40 in Trieste Italy and are a bit wilder. my jacket is a bright orange over a white tee and the necklace I left home in got changed for a bright fruit one I bought during the day. Love these bright summer colors. I even bought the white Chico’s jacket. I think I’ve said that though our style recipe is quite different, I have found some things to buy from your blog, including the Eileen Fisher sport sandals with black soles you wore on this last trip. Thanks.

    • Jennifer

That is funny. Great style is where we find it!

  58. Lily
    June 24, 2019 / 7:08 am

When I saw the header I was prepared to hate this post! I was surprised to like this look. It’s a tropical print, yes, but the colors are not gaudy. It’s a sophisticated look. The pieces are nice and trim also. Now, would I buy the crops? No. I don’t do tropical prints.

  59. Cheryl
    June 24, 2019 / 9:20 am

I have wanted to try a pair of print pants to break out of my comfort zone for years. However, capri looks better on me than cropped pants and I would prefer a pattern with shades of one color. Thought about this the last few days after reading this post and while picking up something at Walmart found capris in a topical leaf print of shades of green! Sold. Sized up one to have more of a pants look. Paired it with my Chico’s no iron long white shirt and similar necklace. Perfection! Also bought the Walmart tee shirt dress featured in your prior (?) post. I am very pleasantly surprised with the fit and quality of both. ☺ Thank you Jennifer for such timely summer wardrobe recommendations and info!

  60. Christine
    June 24, 2019 / 10:55 am

Yes to the outfit, no to the necklace. That necklace isn’t my style, and have plenty of long drapey ones that I could swap in. I have shorts on order from Walmart in a similar fern print except all green fronds. Reminds me of the iconic wallpaper from the Beverly Hills hotel. Prefer solids, but this summer am adding prints when I can find prints other than childish-looking ones. I’m 5/9″ and I look silly in those!
