Would You Wear Orange Pleated Stripes

Would You Wear Orange Pleated Stripes

Happy weekend ladies! It’s time for would you wear it, so grab a cup of your favorite beverage and let’s have fun. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we have photographed and ask if you would wear what it’s modeling. We choose our mannequins at random so they don’t reflect the styles we like or styles we don’t like.

Please explain why you would or wouldn’t wear the look and keep your comments personal to you.mannequin wearing orange striped dress

I love to read your styling ideas so please share if and how you could style this dress to make it work for your shape and lifestyle.

Here’s what’s trending on AWSL this week-

This dress is marked down from $159 to $38.99. If you’re one of those gals who only wear leopard in the fall, this is a timeless piece to pick up now for later. It would look great with brown suede boots and tights in cooler weather.

This lightweight cotton tee is selling like crazy. It also comes in this v-neck version which I prefer with my broad shoulders. This leopard blouse is almost sold out for good reason. It’s marked way down and is the same great quality you can always find at Talbots.

Here’s some more leopard on sale

Here are some of the best weekend sale updates-

Chico’s – semi-annual sale with up to 70% off select items.

Banana Republic

Talbots– Their Red Hanger Sale just got better at 50% off all clearance and 250+ new styles added. All marked down pants, jeans, and shorts are now $19.99. If you are a Talbots credit card holder you get an additional 5% off too!

Nordstrom – Yes, the Anniversary Sale is coming soon (don’t shoot the messenger), but in the meantime, there are some outstanding deals to be had at rock bottom prices… up to 60% off plus an additional 25% off. I can’t say they are paying us to take things away but it sometimes feels that way. They have to clear out and make room for fall merchandise to the winners in this equation are us.

J.Crew – 50% off summer’s greatest hits plus an extra 50% off select summer sale items. Use the code GIANT

Now let’s go see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing on Over 50 Feeling 40.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

The fabric looks like it would be cool for hot weather but the colour does the opposite for me. Horizontal stripes might not flatter me now that I’ve gained a few pounds through our isolation period of sourdough baking. Working now to get them off but I don’t think I am attracted to the colours.

Not a flattering look for a big bust and hips, but I love the colors.

I’m 85 and not a dress person because I walk with a four wheel walker.

A long dress would definitely be a hazard for you.

I would try it on even though I have never worn orange in my life and I’m not sure if it would suit my coloring. It would be much more appealing in shades of blue. I love stripes!

I love the color orange. But that dress is not something I would wear. It would not look good with my coloring. I don’t mind the pleats. But I need sleeves. I’ll leave that dress for some else to wear.

With my pale skin tone, that dress is not for me, but I think it would be lovely on a tall slender woman with darker skin. I can see it styled with a big black or natural color sun hat, scrappy sandals and a straw bag for a stroll by the beach. I can also imagine wearing it with a black shrug, gold necklace, black straps sandals and black clutch for an evening look.

I sort of like the colors and the pattern. My first thought was that it would make an attractive curtain for a beach house. As a dress, I’m afraid I would have to decline.

There is nothing about this dress that appeals to me or would flatter my figure in any way. Orange is not a good color for me, & the pleats, horizontal stripes & length would widen & shorten my body. The ties would also drive me crazy.

Personally would have walked by w/o a passing thought. Blushing & hanging head in shame… the whole ensemble vibe is late 60s, early 70s when Earth tones ruled supreme. Remembering all that & more on my definitively cool-toned self *eek!*.

The shape & flow of the dress would make a cute “apre-beach” cover-up paired with original Dr Scholl’s slide/sandals, a wide-brimmed straw hat, a crocheted or macrame shawl & raffia envelope clutch. Luncheon & stroll along the boardwalk.

Love the blue print dress! I would pass on the orange stripe dress because I don’t wear orange or horizontal stripes. I don’t ‘like leopard prints that have a dark background or are very busy so the tee is more appealing to me than the leopard print dress. I have a silky snow-leopard print top. It has a scooped neck and short-sleeves. I’m all about proportion so I hemmed the sleeves an inch so they hit at a better place on my arm.

Proportion makes such a huge difference in the look of our clothes.

I’m so happy for you and your husband because of his results!
The blue dress looks great on you.
I like the orange dress but not for me. That shade does me no favors, the sleeves are too short and the dangling strips??
If I see any more animal prints I literally will scream! Enough!!! It’s time to put them away and take them out at a later date as they are classics.

I would not wear this dress. The horizontal, wide stripes would not be flattering unless someone is thin and tall. Yes it would look good with a denim jacket but one would have to think carefully about this one. Overall, not an attractive dress.

An absolute notorious the pleated orange dress!

But I just love the blue & white dress on you!

    So fresh & classic.

I wish we could buy Chico in Canada.

    I really enjoy your blog,Jennifer.

The black fabric across the bustline would draw unwanted attention. I might have worn it with long sleeves and tall boots back in the day. It fits in with the boho vibe.

I have a buckskin brown, soft flowly jacket that I could wear with this. It’s unlined so is still cool. I would like my brown ankle boots with it too. It would be good for our Fall weather. I like your linen dress which would good with a denim jacket but then, doesn’t everything? I love my denim.

I prefer small pleats to wider ones so I’m okay with these and I like the colors but I tend to avoid horizontal stripes and I don’t like that the top is a slighter darker shade while the skirt appears to be a brighter/lighter tint. That length isn’t flattering (Although I know midi length is a current style) and the dangling ties at the shoulder would probably be annoying to wear. I do like the very slightly scooped neckline and the fitted waist. I REALLY like your Santorini dress!

I like the dress! Orange makes my skin look great. I like the shape with the nipped in waist. I’m tall so I could carry this dress. I would wear it with tan sandals & my rattan purse. Oh, and cut off those ties. This would be cute to take on a cruise.

    • Jennifer
      July 18, 2020 / 7:47 am

Great styling ideas! Those ties are a mystery, so your solution is fun.

I like the dress style! I would prefer a different color combination such as different shades of blue. Other than the colors, if they were changed, I would wear it!

This ticks no boxes for me! Orange is not my color. Sleeves are too short – I don’t like to display the flags that have taken up residence on the underside of my upper arms. I carry extra weight around my midriff and waist, so accenting the waist doesn’t work. I think the pleats are kind of cute, and the length works for me, but I don’t wear dresses anymore at all. Over all – it’s a nope for moi!

Love the linen dress on you! It looks better on you than the model in the Chico’s ad. Hope a different size does not make it feel shapeless. The way it looks on you now seems perfect.

  21. Linda
    July 18, 2020 / 6:51 am

Love the colors in the dress but not a pleat fan, the other dress no, midi length makes short people look terrible. Yes on the leopard print shirt.

    July 18, 2020 / 6:35 am

Love the dress and it’s colors! Orange or melon/coral colors are always a draw for me, and I own several pieces in those colors. I would wear this dress with a white or blue denim jacket, and add a fun orange earring and a leather sandal. It would be perfect for me for work in the summer. 😊

    • Jennifer
      July 18, 2020 / 6:37 am

It would be so fun with a denim jacket!

  23. Joy
    July 18, 2020 / 6:32 am

I am not too much into pleats and I am even less likely to wear orange. However, I love the Santorini print linen dress! I did not see where I might purchase it. Can you help me with this Jennifer?

  24. Joan
    July 18, 2020 / 6:31 am

Definite no for me! Pleats and horizontal stripes do not flatter this body. The colors are interesting though and remind me of autumn. But I don’t like the ties at the top or the sleeveless look.

That Chico’s dress looks great on you. I’m looking forward to your modeling it when your order arrives.

  26. Rose
    July 18, 2020 / 6:17 am

Really dislike the orange yes. Nothing would work for me. I’m much too short for all that’s going on there, but I like the leopard dress! But even with that dress I think you should be tall.

  27. MRSBEN2
    July 18, 2020 / 6:02 am

Though feel the fabric and its striped pattern is unique plus its length is also fine (as am slender and have the leg length) it is a no as would prefer it to be two pieces and would want to eliminate the shoulder ties. As to the leopard maxi dress, I definitely would consider it BUT would be nixing the elastic cuffs and replacing them with solid/buttoned fitted ones in anticipation to bump it up a notch. (Might also even create/co-ordinate a skinny belt in the solid fabric to wear with it.)

    • MRSBEN2
      July 18, 2020 / 6:07 am

Oops, just noticed that it is modeled with a skinny belt.

  28. Suzanne
    July 18, 2020 / 5:52 am

Just no. The fabric, sleeves, and color do nothing for me. I would not look well in this dress.
I really like the dress you bought though. I like linen and anything with blue is a winner.

    • Jennifer
      July 18, 2020 / 6:46 am

I’m anxious to get that dress. I totally agree about blue and linen.

No to the mannequin but I love the dress you chose for yourself!

  30. Eileen
    July 18, 2020 / 5:38 am

The stripes are too wide for my taste, this dress would make me feel like I was wearing a costume. Visually interesting, but I wouldn’t wear it.

  31. Susan McClelland
    July 18, 2020 / 5:34 am

The dress is cute and I don’t mind the ties on the shoulders. However, not sure the colour would suit me, so would probably give it a pass.

  32. Pamela Over 50 Feeling 40
    July 18, 2020 / 5:29 am

I do not personally like this dress at all and I avoid horizontal stripes because they make me look larger. No, I would not wear it.

  33. Linda GR
    July 18, 2020 / 5:17 am

I like the dress, but the ties at the shoulder are annoying. Also, the colors look more like fall than summer. I’d like it better if it was just a skirt. I do, however, really like the linen dress you’re wearing.

    • Jennifer
      July 18, 2020 / 6:47 am

Thanks Linda. It would be a pretty skirt. I’m becoming a skirt lover!

  34. Loretta Jirousek
    July 18, 2020 / 5:15 am

Since I am a winter colors gal, I would not consider buying this dress. Besides, stripes would make me appear shorter. Am only 5′-5″.

  35. Joyce Reardon
    July 18, 2020 / 5:08 am

Sorry, there is nothing about this dress that I like. Color, style etc.
I do like the linen dress you bought!
    Stay cool.

  36. Michele
    July 18, 2020 / 5:07 am

I consider this a “crinkled” orange stripe dress instead of pleated. The material looks like the kind you wash, twist, tie and let dry. Once dried, you untie and lo and behold…crinkles. The warm color palette appeals to me, but I don’t wear sleeveless. If the dress had sleeves, I would style with flat metallic sandals and gold jewelry. I would carry the ever so popular rattan or straw purses with it.

I love this except for the strings/ribbons at the shoulder. I think those ruin the look of the bodice.

  38. Jan
    July 18, 2020 / 5:03 am

My full length mirror would flash “error, error, try again” if I tried to leave the house wearing this dress!! The pleats, the wide stripes and the odd, orange color do nothing for me. I don’t wear sleeveless either and those long ties that dangle from the shoulder would be bothersome.
Now, the linen dress you featured on your opening page checked a lot of my “favorites “ boxes. The fabric, print, vneck, set in sleeves, pockets, back pleat and length are all flattering. I might have preferred this dress without the collar.
We’re in for a very toasty weekend! I plan to sew a couple new masks today. Stay safe, we’re all in this together!!

Sorry, this one isn’t a flattering style, length or color for me.

  40. MP
    July 18, 2020 / 4:47 am

No. Pleats add bulk and I don’t wear the colors of this dress. If the pleats were gone and the dress was shades of blue, green or purple, then yes.

  41. Belinda
    July 18, 2020 / 4:21 am

Nope! Three reasons, color, sleeveless and length

  42. Paulette Levy
    July 18, 2020 / 3:39 am

Oh my! I do like the top of this dress a bit, and maybe if it were a sleeveless blouse, I’d try it on. But, I don’t wear long dresses like this, preferring skirts or dresses to my knee cap, similar to the Talbots skirt you featured this week . This fabric might be cool, but the warming color and horizontal strikes don’t engage me at all. Too much stripe.

    • Elle
      July 18, 2020 / 6:51 am

Yes,in a heart beat, maybe not the matching top,but the skirt . yes!!!!!!!!
