Would You Wear This? I Tried

Happy Wednesday, ladies. I’m trying something new today, so I’ll be curious to get your thoughts.

It’s not always possible for me to try on the garments I see on a mannequin, but I was able to yesterday, so let’s have some fun.

I did my best with what I could grab in 2 minutes at the store but I’d like to hear how you would style what this mannequin is wearing.

WEARING  –  TOP –  LINEN BLEND CROP PANTS

We all know I am 5’4″, and I estimate this mannequin is at least 5’7″ so the proportions look very different on me. She also has proportionally long legs and arms with what looks to be an hourglass shape. I have broad shoulders and a straight torso with very few curves.

The crops are cropped on her, not on me.

  • She has faux heels on and I’m barefoot so I tucked the top in further to try and make my legs appear longer.
  • I’m not flattered by boxy tops so I tried twisting the bottom and passing it through a belt loop to snug up the look.
  • High crew necks and orange aren’t very flattering on me either so I swapped the top for this scoop neck tee in a color that’s better for my coloring.

So what are your thoughts? Would you wear part or all of the mannequin’s outfit and how would you style it to work for you?

The Memorial Day sales are kicking off and they’ll be epic as usual. Here are a few early ones-

Macy’s – take an extra 20% off with the code MEMDAY through 5/31

Talbots – the summer style event is on with 30% off your entire order. I stopped in yesterday and found lots of great pieces, all on sale.

Wayfair – Memorial Day blowout with up to 70% off through 5/31

Gap – up to 50% off sitewide through 5/26 (today)

J. Crew – 25% off your purchase and an extra 40% off sale with the code WEEKEND through 5/31

Nordstrom Rack – up to 50% off home and 40% off activewear through 5/31

Ballard Designs – up to 20% sitewide through 6/1

Now back to the mannequin…what do you think?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

Both outfits – both tops – look great on you! I favor tops with the support of a shoulder seam to help shape me, otherwise I look droopy. White linen pants are so versatile and look great with sandals or flats!

This coral looks great on you.

The coral blouse is really pretty on. Slimmer cut pant would be better.

You look nice in these tops and pants. The pants have too much material for me at 5’2″. The colors of the tops are good , but I am not excited about them, just ok.

I think the orange brightens your look and complexion and really looks good. Of course, it may be the lighting but the photo looks better than the blue and white. The blue and white tends to look cooler while the orange is a warmer look and brightens your complexion. I would wear the top but them I am curvy on top and short so I need the boxy look to take away from the bust so it is not so pronounced.

I really like the orange top and pants on you, either way tucked in or knotted, maybe knotted the best. I also like the blue.

I think you’re wrong that the orange/coral doesn’t flatter you. I think you look beautiful in that whole outfit as is; without the knot in the top, just tucked in the way you have it in one of the shots. If you look at the 2 pictures of the coral top vs the blue, I think the coral brings out a brighter skin tone and your hair color more than the cool blue does. But, maybe it’s just the lighting.
    The earrings look great too!
I probably wouldn’t wear that outfit. The pants seem too roomy and the top isn’t my style. I don’t like all the ruffles and sleeve enhancements that are in style this season. I think that’s a trend that won’t last since it’s one that’s recycled anyway! Too fussy for me.
As far as shoes with the coral top and pants, probably neutral sandals- gold metallic for a dressier look and neutral espadrilles for a more casual look. I can’t believe the bag they show with it! I don’t think it goes with the outfit at all and it’s not very attractive.

I loved the outfit on you. Also, the coral one with it pulled through the belt loop is genius! A nice change.😊

I thought the coral looked absolutely stunning on you! The white or cream color in it toned it down a bit, and with your hair color it was a great look! You might try warmer colors more often.
I have about the same coloring, but every now and then a soft coral looks really good on me too.

I like everything except the pants. I would choose slimmer pants. I have been using the twist in the tops for years. I am short & regular tops sometimes are just too long on me. I use smaller hair ties to secure my twists. Love both shirts on you.

I think both tops are nice and I really like the sleeve on the orange. Would definitely wear that silhouette only in a different color. The pants for me are a no and I think you could do better as well. Way too much volume in the thigh especially and also in the calf. Color is great and would go with everything this spring/summer. Nice to see you trying on the “would you wear it”.

I’m certainly no expert but I do think the coral blouse is lovely on you. The neckline may not be just right but the bright color is perfect on your fair skin and light hair:) The pants wouldn’t work for me but the blouse would. Thank you for sharing!

I am also about 5’4″, about a 12-14 and my hair is the brightest color of copper red stylist could make! I am head to toe orange today, a bit on the coral side but definitely orange, not red or pink. I would have that shirt in a minute, if I had anyplace to wear it to! My life is not that dressy.

I would hem those pants, but would prefer them in something other than white. Coral at an ankle length and I would want them better fitted. I don’t like all that looseness. I would add my coral and yellow sandals and a good hat just for fun.

And grin from ear to ear while wearing a color a lot of people can’t or won’t!

Jennifer, good to see a mannequin styled on you.
I zoomed in to see how you did that tuck… very clever!
The Nordstrom top also comes in black with a pretty floral which I would try. Slimmer pants for me , though, at 5’3”.
Coral is good with my complexion, as is that blue top, so I often look for those colours , especially in warmer months.
    Enjoying the posts and opinions.

Loved both tops on you. While the blue was a beautiful choice for your coloring; the orange was fun and fresh! Liked them both tied best. Love love love your earrings. Are they linked in your shopping list?

My earrings are from J. Crew Factory last year. There are lots of similar ones around like these.

Love! the tangerine orange on you. Warms your skin.
I’d wear that outfit, for sure. I’m usually more classic, but need to get out of that box occasionally.
    Thank You!

PS Thinking of your forests this season 🤞🏻

My thoughts? You’re spot-on with your observations. This outfit would work well for a woman 5’7″ tall with a pear-shaped body — in other words, someone like me.

Here’s why. Crew necks work for women with small shoulders and a smaller upper body. Inverted triangle shapes need a different neckline, like a scoop neck, or the amount of fabric might make them look wider. Here’s a case where more skin is better. The sleeves end mid-body; pears can highlight our smaller waists. Pushing the sleeves up a bit would be even better for a pear.

With the top, the crop pants have volume that works for a taller woman, but the combination is too much volume for a petite woman.

I could wear it, but would I? Orange is not my best color, unfortunately.

With the two pieces worn together I’d settle for long dangly earrings -maybe white? I’d forego any necklace as the top is a bit complex with the sleeves and the print. (Love that orange- coral color) .
The pants are full. The material looks stiff. I’d prefer a more flowy pant or a straight leg. Id wear strappy sandals on my feet.
