Would Your Wear It: Stripes and Olive

Would Your Wear It: Stripes and Olive

Happy Saturday and welcome to the weekend. I’ll be off to an Easter Egg Hunt at the local park with my grandson today which promises to be fun. There’s nothing quite like the frenzy of children hunting for candy and the resulting sugar rush;)

It’s time for would you wear it. Each week my friend Pam and I share a mannequin we have seen and ask if you would wear what it’s wearing and why or why not.

We don’t share our thoughts because we want to hear yours.

So tell me, ladies, does this fit your shape, lifestyle and style goals? Why could you wear it and why couldn’t you. Please explain so we all learn.

Here are the weekend sale updates-

Chico’s – 40% off your purchase, passport members take an extra 5% off and free shipping over $125 with the code 58346

NYDJ – end of season sale an extra 30% off sale styles

Banana Republic – 40% off everything, except 20% off leather, silk, cashmere, and suede – ends tonight

Nordstrom – spring sale up to 40% off

JCPenney – extra 25% off over $100 or 20% off under $100 with the code GOSHOP9

Kate Spade – extra 30% off sale styles with the code JOYSOFSPRING

Now let’s pop over and see what Pam’s mannequin is wearing here.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

I like the colors and the thought. However, too frumpy and Annie Hall looking.

I like the pants. I like olive, and they look comfortable. No on the shirt. It just doesn’t work for me.

I wouldn’t wear this because I think there is a lack of balance. Loose pants would, in my opinion, look better with a more fitted top and vice versa. Also the colors together look like they clash rather than harmonize.

I would not wear this. I like the striped top, but it looks very long & voluminous. Neither of these things are flattering to my short rather chubby shape. The drawstring pants would not be flattering to my figure, although, I do like the color.

    • April 20, 2019 / 7:11 pm

      Thanks for explaining Becky.

I like vertical stripes, I like olive color pants (not a color I can wear close to my face). Overall pants shape and length is good although I’m not a fan of drawstring waists (prefer a more tailored pant) but, oh, my, that shirt is voluminous!

The dark olive in my opinion is an ugly color that belongs on army tents and fishing gear. The pant shape is fine but I prefer a better proportion of small top/baggy bottom or visa versa. This shirt is too big and sloppy for the wide legged pants. And it has no shape and is too big … it looks like a mans shirt. At 5’4’ I’d look shapeless and totally swallowed up in all that fabric.

I’d wear the top with skinny white jeans. I’d wear the pants with a fitted top. Simple.

I love stripes but this shirt is too baggy and too washed out. I’m small busted with narrow shoulders and would disappear in this shirt. I don’t like paper bag pants, as they add bulk around the waist. I find it an untidy look. I like olive but not close to my face. I love blue but this shade of blue is too light. There is nothing about this outfit that I find appealing.

      Thanks for explaining why Joanna

NO NO. My first thought was did she escape from prison? Can’t imagine this being flattering on anyone.

This look is just way too baggy for me. I do like the colors though.

  11. Katie

I like the pants as the narrow leg trend is not flattering on me. And the handbag is very cute.. I just bought one that is similar and have received compliments galore which is always nice.

I love the colors and the styles but not together. As a shorter overweight woman, I would pair the shirt with leggings or a narrow pant and the wider pants with a tailored shirt . Not sure if the bag is a yes or no. I do like the style but not sure about the pattern.

    • April 20, 2019 / 7:11 pm

      Thanks for explaining Sue

Nope- colors ok…but much too much volume for me! Happy Easter to you and your family Jennifer!!

  14. April 20, 2019 / 7:11 am

I definitely would wear this outfit! I love the colors and I think they would go well with my silvers. A nice casual outfit for a night out with my hubby!

    April 20, 2019 / 6:43 am

Colours yes, cut no! I would not be comfortable in either piece, just not flattering for my height, build and proportions. There seems to be many of your followers with similar tastes ?

  16. Susan
    April 20, 2019 / 6:43 am

Yes I’d wear it- conditionally. I love those pants and have them in every drapey fabric . I don’t have any shape below the waist and the softness rounds me out. I like the striped top but need it a whole lot smaller because I’m really short. So narrow -ish top and flowy pants that are really long. Perfection!

  17. Julie
    April 20, 2019 / 6:35 am

Don’t care for such loose fitting pants, but like the color of them.

  18. Helen
    April 20, 2019 / 6:32 am

I would ‘wear’ the purse only….

  19. Griselle Camacho-Claudio
    April 20, 2019 / 6:18 am

Yes, I would but probably not together. When I wear wide leg pants, my top is always more tapered to the body, otherwise it looks like I am wearing a sack. If the blouse is that loose I will wear it with slim pants for balance.

  20. Susan Kelley
    April 20, 2019 / 6:07 am

I am new to this, but while the individual pieces are ok, just not together I would nerver wear either one. If it were a beige stripe with thoe pants-maybe. Agree with the previous comments about the non-flattering fit-those kinds of pants are hard for anyone to wear. The shirt isnot too bad. I ususally wear mine more as overblouses with pats, but with my apple shape I would literally look like a bag lady in those with an overblouse! Take a pass.

    • April 20, 2019 / 4:53 pm

Welcome and thanks for sharing your styling ideas Susan.

    April 20, 2019 / 5:54 am

I would probably wear the shirt and I would wear olive pants with it – just not those. If they were slimmer through the leg I might. I definitely like the color combination, it’s something different.

  22. Judy Casingal
    April 20, 2019 / 5:23 am

I like the color combination but the pants are to wide for me. May wear the top as it has vertical srtipes with leggings

  23. Lynn
    April 20, 2019 / 5:22 am

I would very wear the stripes/olive combo but I could not wear either of those pieces. The pants would make me look huge and the blouse(way too expensive) is too big for me. But I do like the combo.

  24. Cindy
    April 20, 2019 / 5:07 am

I don’t especially like these colors and the fit is too sloppy. So I would not wear this outfit.

  25. April 20, 2019 / 5:03 am

I love the shirt! I would definitely wear it. I only wear vertical stripes! Ha Ha I also love the bag. I would not wear the pants. I do not like this olive color and the pants legs are too wide. I would wear the shirt with a pair of navy or white capris.

  26. Sheila Porter
    April 20, 2019 / 4:48 am

No. Too loose to be flattering. Too looks like pyjamas my dad used to wear. Lol. No thanks

  27. Mary
    April 20, 2019 / 4:46 am

Looks like pajamas to me. I would not wear any of this. I prefer fitted, tailored clothing. Happy Saturday!

  28. Linda
    April 20, 2019 / 4:31 am

This look would not work for me as the proportions are off. Whatever happened to the formula of ‘loose top, slim bottom’ and ‘fitted top, loose bottom’?

    • April 20, 2019 / 7:09 pm

That formula still works but many store merchandisers ignore it.

  29. Lori Stewart
    April 20, 2019 / 4:30 am

The outfit is underwhelming. I do like the pants and would happily wear them with another top. I think the blouse needs to have more vibrant colors to match the intensity of the bottom.

  30. April 20, 2019 / 4:25 am

Olive is not flattering on me, but I might wear it in pants. The blouse is classy and I like it. I would at least try it on to see if it worked on me.

  31. April 20, 2019 / 4:24 am

Like others have mentioned, this pant cut doesn’t look good on me. I have a tummy, not much in hip or fanny, so it’s not a flattering look. The olive color is just okay, not a favorite. On the blouse, I don’t love it, nor would I discount it, but with these pants, it does appear out of balance. Maybe paired with a narrow pant leg?
I could wear the blouse, yes.

    April 20, 2019 / 4:01 am

I like the color mix, but this outfit would not work for me. It’s too loose to be flattering.

I think the pants would work with a different top — something more form-fitting.

    Happy Easter!!

  33. April 20, 2019 / 3:38 am

I love stripes and I love olive, but this look as it is styled would not work for me. Actually, I would not wear either piece with anything else. The top on me is not a good cut or fit and would not be flattering. I have tried on pants like this and they are not flattering on my curves. So this would be a no I would not wear it.
