Chic and Modern: Top 2025 Jean Trends Every Woman Over 50 Should Try
Nordstrom sponsors this post. Thanks for supporting the brands that work with AWSL.
Jeans are a timeless wardrobe staple, and for women over 50, they’re an effortless way to stay stylish and comfortable. Stretch fabrics, high-waisted options, and relaxed fits make today’s denim ideal for women who prioritize both style and functionality. Nordstrom is my go-to source for denim because they offer the latest trends as well and tried and true classics. Here are some of the jean trends going forward into 2025:
GRAY-WASH JEANS
Gray-wash jeans are having a major moment, and they’re surprisingly versatile for older women who want to look modern without chasing trends like a teenager at a Taylor Swift concert. If black is not your vibe, gray is a softer alternative and feel fresh for 2025. They’re available in varying washes from deep gray all the way to whisper gray with just a touch of color.

These Nic+Zoe jeans also cover the wide-leg trend so you get a twofer with this pair. Gray loves other neutrals so for a sophisticated look you can pair them with black, white, cream or other shades of gray for an elevated look.

I choose a tonal look with this NZ by Nic+Zoe long sleeve tee in a soft green called patina. It also comes in navy and is a great layering piece. I found it runs small so I suggest you size up. I topped it with my Nic+Zoe Fringe Knit Jacket in the color Sugar Cookie. I added medium gray booties to keep the entire look soft.

These gray-wash jeans are as soft your comfiest loungewear. They’re a cotton blend with 3% elastomultiester and 2% spandex so they’re stretchy enough to wear for a long day of travel. These have an 11″ rise and a 22″ leg opening with a raw hem so you could easily shorten them with a quick snip of your scissors.

If you’ve got a closet full of blue jeans (who doesn’t?), gray is the perfect antidote to denim fatigue. They keep your outfits feeling fresh and give you more styling options without straying too far from your comfort zone and they’re right on trend for 2025.

STRAIGHT LEG JEANS
They’re calling straight-leg jeans a trend for 2025, but in truth, they’re never out of style. The leg shapes will change slightly, but they always offer the perfect balance between structure and comfort, making them flattering for many body shapes.

NORDSTROM BELT / NIC+ZOE PULLOVER SHIRT size M / CABLE HOOP EARRINGS / PURL SOCK BOOTIES / TOTÊME HANDBAG (similar option)
These Frame Le Sleek Jeans are a super-stretchy denim with an 11″ front rise and a 16″ leg opening. They’re perfect for flats or going over the top of booties to give a long, lean look to the leg. These come in 4 washes, and I bought the Marsha, which is the deepest blue.

Straight-leg jeans easily transition from casual to dressy, and I find the deeper washes do it seamlessly. You can pair them with sneakers and a simple top for a relaxed daytime look or dress them up with heels and a tailored blazer for a night out.

I’m wearing mine with a simple white popover shirt from Nic+Zoe that I know will pack and travel like a dream. I topped it with my stretch Slade Blazer (option here), and added my super comfy knit booties. This is my second winter with these booties and I wear them more days than not.

I added a simple black belt because belt loops look unfinshed without one. I kept jewelry simple with my Yurman cable hoop earrings and vintage brooch because often, less is more. Straight leg jeans strike a balance between youthful and sophisticated, showing that great style has no age limit. Their clean lines and adaptable fit make them an easy way to stay current without stepping out of your comfort zone.

STATEMENT WIDE-CUFFED JEANS
Wide-cuff jeans can be a fun, statement-making addition to an older woman’s wardrobe, as long as you balance the proportions and style them thoughtfully. They’ve been on trend for several seasons and appear to still be going strong into 2025. It’s taken awhile for my eye to adjust to this shape, and now that they’re plentiful, there are plenty options to get just the look you want.

These Paige cuffed jeans are a substantial feeling low-stretch denim. I’m wearing a petite and they also come in regular length here which have a 26.5″ inseam. After reading the reviews, several from other women who are 5’4″, I’ve ordered the regular to compare and see which length I prefer. They’re a nice medium/light wash with no rips or tears which is a trend that seems to thankfully be going out of style.

Many wide cuff jeans have a raw edge, but I prefer these with a more polished hem. The cuffs are tacked up, and the front crease adds a nice touch. You can also wear these with booties that tuck up under the hem. But at this length, I prefer to see some ankle. I have lots of classic style jeans but these add a level of fun I was looking for.

Because these have a wider leg, I opted to tuck in a slimmer top and belt the jeans. Wide cuffs already make a statement, so I kept my accessories clean and simple. A plain black belt, black loafers (similar), black purse (option), silver hoops, and a simple necklace.
Wearing statement jeans is a celebration of self-confidence. They signal that you’re not afraid to stand out and embrace fashion that makes you feel good. For women over 50, this is a powerful way to show that style and creativity don’t have an expiration date.

Nordstrom is my favorite department store and one of my go-to places to shop, especially when it comes to jeans. They always have the latest styles, including the newest denim trends for 2025. Their customer service is the best in the business, plus they also offer BOPUS, ROTUS (reserve online, try on in-store), and curbside pickup. Nordstrom also offers free shipping both ways, plus their Nordy Club (free to join here) earns you notes to spend on future purchases.
What jeans styles will you be trying in 2025?

I’m definitely going to be looking for a pair of grey jeans!
Adding the belt to the jeans you are modeling gives them a polished and sophisticated look but still casual.
As always, great post and terrific suggestions. I rarely wear jeans, but I know I’m in the minority.
Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for showing the new gray jeans, which I have been on the lookout for.
My style continues to be the flare or boot cut as being 5’2 they seem to look much better on me.
I am over the frayed jeans so hopefully there are those without the frays.
Keep up with the showing the new things for this year.
There are lots to choose from that hasve finished hems
I really appreciate that you include the measurements of leg openings and rise! It helps to understand how these might fit.
All the jeans here seem tobbe high rise. My risenis 9.5”., so 11” risesmarenunwearable. ( I’m very petitenso my ribcage is directly above my waist.)
Any suggestions for a 90’s straight leg dark wash no fading/whiskering jean? I’m used to shortening everything so length isn’t asbimportant.!BTW, my legs are thicker thanaverage, especially the knees.! Hence the request for old style straights.
Look for a mid rise straight. There are more and more available with a 9” rise
It is wonderful that there are so many styles to choose from and everyone can wear what they love. I am on the hunt to find a gray pair of jeans in a straight leg style.
I’m most comfortable in the high rise jeans. I haven’t been able to find boot cut or straight leg jeans that are not mid rise. I love the grey especially the very light grey. For comfort, the wide leg high rise are the best for me. Still have the fit problem. I wear a 10P in the hips and a 12P in the waist. What is a girl supposed to do? At 5’1” and 137-139 lbs. I can’t wear the cuffs. I do always wear my jeans long with a 28” inseam when I can find it. Am I looking for a unicorn?
Alterations may be your best bet
I live in jeans! These are very inspiring. Love that grey jeans are in. I’m going to look for some. I seem to buy all my jeans at the Rack. Just got a Kut from the Kloth pair in black. Now I wish they were grey. 🩶
I wear the slight flair and straight leg jeans and, of course, the boot cut i would like to find a gray denim not sure which style.
There’s a lot of gray around so you could likely find any style you like.
Hi Jennifer, I really enjoyed your post this morning. Your photos and smart styling suggestions have inspired me to make some thoughtful additions to my denim collection and maybe some donations as well! I especially liked how you showed the gray denim with the grayish Nic & Zoe jacket. With your guidance, I bought that same jacket a year or two ago and have gotten a lot of wear out of it. Thank you!
Susan
Gray jeans are a long time staple for my winter palette. Those Frame jeans look great. Straight leg aka cigarette jeans have always been my best cut. Cudos for trying the cuffed jeans. I think you need them longer, almost dragging, with a more substantial shoe ir boot. I love wide jeans and have been eyeing the Sasha sans cuffs (Paige fits me well) but the big cuffs overwhelm my petite frame. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of pushback on those ! 😆 Also thanks for showing the Slade blazer. It helps to see it on someone who wears petites. I see that the arms don’t seem long and it fits well.
I had Nordstrom shorten the sleeves on my Slade (I love their alterations) Interestingly, she shortened them from the shoulder so the buttons stayed intact. I’ve been wanting one for many years and I’m glad I waited until I found a navy one.
This is my second pair of Paige, and wow, I love the fabric! They’re a cut above. I’m anxious for the full length ones to arrive so I can compare.
I have seen skinnies in the stores. Kate Middleton never stopped wearing them. I have stayed with the current straight and bootcut styles. On me the wider jeans really need shorter tops and jackets and it’s too much of investment. It’s so interesting to see the and experience the fashion cycles. Thanks for your review for 2025.
Wider jeans look best with short tops. I agree
