5 Friday Favorites and a Recipe

We’re starting our long drive home today plus it’s the start of Labor Day weekend so just like that, summer is over. It may still be warm outside but it’s full steam ahead for all things cozy, pumpkin, and fall. For many of us, me included, this is my favorite time for fashion.Ā

Ā

Cinnamon

I love cinnamon! I love the way it tastes and smells, plus how perfect it looks for fall. If I’ve learned anything from my 5 personal color analyses last year, it is to enjoy colors I like and wear what appeals to me in the moment.

cinnamon colored cardigan
NEVERMIND CARDIGAN

I spotted this cardigan sweater in a small boutique in Victoria and loved it. Don’t ask me why I didn’t buy it because I seldom hesitate if I love something. Remorse hit the second we got on the ferry so I was happy to find it online and have ordered it. I did try it on and know it runs large, the XS fits me nicely. If this color isn’t your cup of tea, it’s also available in ivory and aqua, but this cinnamon color says, fall to me.

Animal Print

animal print denim jacket

I’ve always considered animal print a neutral in my wardrobe and love the pizzazz it adds to an outfit. I see more of it in the cooler months and am loving all the fresh new options. This denim jacket in animal print has lycra spandex built-in so it’s on my shortlist for fall.

Soap

If you have to hand wash some dishes, and I do many by hand, I will enjoy doing it more with this Pumpkin Spice dish soap. They also make this matching hand soap so these will both be welcome additions to my kitchen this fall.

Essential Oil

ESSENTIAL OIL DIFFUSER

Iā€™m a big fan of scented candles and the ambiance they add to a room but burning candles isn’t the healthiest thing for your lungs so I love to diffuse essential oils.Ā  I bought a small, travel diffuser and have been picking up oils on my travels. This one smells just like Pumpkin Pie with zero calories. This Spice Frangrance Oil diffusing set included gingerbread which all of a sudden sounds amazing!

Taupe Booties

I’m a huge fan of booties in the fall for many reasons, not the least of which is comfort. I got to wear these water-resistant ones during our trip to Pender Island earlier this week and love them! We went forest bathing then for a long stroll along the coast and they were perfect. Warm, cozy, not hot, and super comfy.

Here’s a simple pumpkin smoothie recipe I made last year that was so yummy, I can’t wait to make them again.

Dairy-Free Pumpkin Pie Smoothy

1/2 cup cold canned pumpkin puree – not pie mix

1/2 cup cold Oat milk

2 TBSP vanilla protein powder

1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice

1/2 frozen banana

1 TBSP maple syrup

Add all this to a blender and mix until smooth and creamy. Sprinkle with cinnamon.Ā

Are you feeling ready for the spiciness of fall?

  1. I love the pullover sweater from Nordstrom but was wondering about sizing, what size did you wear? I love the look with jeans and booties.

  2. I love everything FALL and I really like that taupe sweater with blue denim shirt. Your hair is so cute in that photo. Is your hair the same length all the way around or do you have layers. So cute!

    1. I do have some layers but they’re pretty grown out and I am due for a haircut when I get home

Hello Jennifer – really enjoy your blog. So many great ideas. Lovely cardigan! What is the name of the shop where yo purchased the sweater in Victoria? I went to the Free People web site, but it does not come up there and the girl at the Free People store in Park Royal – West Van – could not find it either.
    Many thanks,
    Audrey

    1. It’s at Oceanside Gifts,812 Wharf St, Victoria, BC V8W 1T3, Canada

I can’t wait to try your pumpkin smoothie recipe! It sounds so yummy!

I love your look in these photos… simple jeans, sweater, and booties… casual, comfy, and yet very put together!

Safe travels on the way home! I hope the weather is lovely and the trip a relaxing one.

    1. Thanks so much Elaine.

  5. THanks, great post — your fall look is just what the doctor ordered. NE is heading toward fall. Two quick notes: in case anyone is wondering, it’s OAT milk for the smoothie. Also, Jennifer you care about things from what I can see, so check the ingredients in detergent (e.g., polysorbate 20).

    1. Lol, yes thanks for seeing that. Oak milk would be very strange indeed:) I do care so will see if I can find a healthier option.

  6. I canā€™t wait to wear what you have on. I bought a new grey sweater last year that I never got to wear. I love the look of the shirt under the sweater but it starts to pull on me after a while. Is there a secret to keeping the shirt in one place under a sweater. It will be hot at least till Thanksgiving. But we can wear fall colors at least. Love the cinnamon color.

    1. I tuck the shirt into my jeans which holds it down:)

  7. Thank you so much for the smoothie recipe. This is so much more healthy than my usual pumpkin spice lattƩ. Fall is definitely in the air, and Thanksgiving is a month away.

    Good morning, Jennifer,
You have a beautiful day for the start of your long drive home. It’s been fun seeing you post from my corner of the world. I’m glad you were able to come and visit your daughter and other family here.
I’m wearing a sweater this morning, too – the temperatures are much cooler now. Cozy sweaters are a highlight of fall for me. Thanks for sharing your journey!

  9. You do, indeed, look comfortable and fallish in that cute outfit. Still too warm here in SC. Safe travels home.

How adorable you look in simple jeans and sweater along with short boots for fall! Love this! I need recommendations for footwear to wear with my new dark wash slight flare jeans! (Before boot weather here in New England) . Can you help with a suggestion?

  11. Iā€™m looking forward to the weather getting cool enough for my new booties, but that wonā€™t happen for a couple of weeks at least. thanks for the fall inspiration!

  12. ooh, the cardigan made me think of mohair pullovers from my childhood… loved them. This version is bound to be popular with those who can’t wear wool. The recipe sounds delish – will buy pumpkin! I recently discovered how tasty oat milk is… Chobani’s Vanilla to be specific. If you want to skip the added sugar though, it’s really easy to make your own.

Love this outfit – you look marvelous. I love to make my own scents to diffuse in my office for fall – you are inspiring me!

  14. I donā€™t envy you traveling back through the smoke and traffic, but as they say – thereā€™s no place like home! Love your denim look – that Chicoā€™s scarf from your last post would look amazing with it, no? Iā€™m so so ready for fall and all things pumpkin spice.

    1. I’m not looking forward to the smoke and traffic either.

  15. Sad your vacation is over, but there is no place like home as they say. loved the look on you in the jeans, shirt and pullover sweater. clothes like these scream Fall is herešŸšŸšŸ‚ living in Florida of course does not lend itself to change of seasons, but I do my best to wear clothes that make me feel like fall is in the air even though it is 90 degrees outside. Have a great weekend Jennifer!!!

    1. Thank you, Dianne. Have a great weekend!

  16. Hi Jennifer,

How far is Pender Island from Victoria? We have visited there often, spent our honeymoon there in 1980. We stay at the Royal Scot.
    Safe travels home.
    Thanks for inspiring me.

    1. Pender is just a short 45-minute ride from Swartz Bay and so worth seeing.

  17. That first sweater looks so incredibly comfy, glad you were able to get it online, and it will be waiting for you when you get home. Safe travels along the way, it must be bittersweet to be leaving Vanessa and Honeypug but good to be getting home. Our mornings are in the single digits ( C ) so it is a reminder that fall is on the way. I think I will check out the stash of autumn decorations in the basement and start to get them out this weekend. Thanks for taking us along on your stay in BC.

    1. I sure will. Thank you, Diane! Have a great weekend

  18. Maribeth Conklin says:

    Good morning,
Would you have any idea of the macro count and calorie count for this smoothie?

    1. I do not, but I will be checking it out when I get home to my pumpkin, and protein powder:)
