Weekend Reading 07.18.26

Happy weekend, ladies. It sure feels good to sleep in my own bed. I love having someone else make my bed in the morning, but it’s never as comfy as my own.

Judy commented yesterday that she misses the photos I share of what I wear during the week, so I’m going to try to be more consistent.

COTTON JACKET / LINEN PANTS / SANDALS / SIMILAR TOP / EARRINGS

Here’s what I wore for the long drive home yesterday. Nothing fancy, but everything comfy. I also wore my frameless glasses, which I usually only wear at home, but my nose has two sore spots from pulling things on and off over my head all week, and I needed to give it a break.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now open to all shoppers, so I’m sharing a few more outfits I tried on.

OPEN EDIT TRENCH COAT size 6

This Open Edit oversized trench coat is a gorgeous steel gray color, which I don’t see too often. It’s got a slouchy silhouette with a storm flap in the back and the belts to snug up the sleeves. I love the raglan shoulders and have it in my cart along with a few others, so I’d better decide fast.

CASHMERE CREWNECK size S / WIDE-LEG JEANS size 6P

This Nordstrom cashmere crewneck is the prettiest shade, called pink adobe, and I wish I had bought it. Their cashmere sweaters are really nice this year, with lots of necklines, sleeve lengths, and colors to choose from.

I’m wearing it with these Wit & Wisdom Sam wide-leg jeans in candied walnut. Jeans in rich saturated colors look very popular for fall, which is a nice change from blue. These are also available in a coffee brown.

WIDE-LEG JEANS size 6P / BOMBER JACKET size S

Here’s the same cashmere sweater with these Kut From The Kloth high-waist wide-leg jeans. They have a relaxed fit and a nice medium wash with no distressing. On top, I’m wearing this Halogen Bomber Jacket in indigo navy. It has a bit of stretch, but the fabric is woven, and it’s fully lined.

WATERPROOF TRENCH COAT size S

In my hunt for a trench coat, I found this very lightweight, waterproof, A-line Raincoat. This color is violet steel, and it also comes in shiny black. It’s unlined with a drawstring hood and a snap-front placket to keep water out. This would keep you very dry in a downpour.

SWEATER JACKET size S / WIDE LEG PANTS size 6P

I love the cutaway styling at the bottom of this Nordstrom Merino Wool Sweater Jacket. It also comes in burgundy or black, which I did not see at the store. It’s a dense, substantial knit that looks very polished. This size fits me, but I could also go up to a medium. The burgundy is almost sold out, so I hope they restock.

I’m wearing it over these Wit & Wisdom flat-front wide-leg pants. These fit like a dream and come in regular and petite. They have classic 5-pocket styling, but they don’t look or feel like jeans because the fabric is more like a ponte.

CASHMERE SWEATER size S / STRAIGHT LEG JEANS size 28

This short-sleeve cashmere sweater is a great piece for shoulder seasons. It comes in 7 colors, I’m wearing red jazzy, which looks like raspberry to me. They’re very soft, and the price is terrific. I’m wearing it over these Frame The Mellow straight-leg, ankle jeans. They have a full straight leg, which I’m loving these days. They’re comfier than slim legs, but not wide.

CASHMERE SWEATER size S / WIDE-LEG JEANS size 8P

This is a Nordstrom V-neck cashmere sweater in blue subdued. The colors in their cashmere collection this season are very pretty. This sweater is hip-length, which I have bloused over the bottom ribbing.

I’m wearing it with these Wit & Wisdom Double Side-Seam Jeans. There’s a small piece of fabric between the seams that runs down the side of the jeans, which makes the legs look narrower. It sounds odd, but it looks good, and they fit beautifully. This 8P is a bit loose on me, but the 6P was sold out.

POLO SWEATER size M / SKIRT size 6

This Nic+Zoe trimmed polo sweater has a Johnny collar, edged with stitching that makes it look striped. It’s a cotton blend with a touch of cashmere and silk. I’m wearing it with this Vince Camuto wide circle skirt that swishes when you move. It’s a maxi on me, but it is intended to be low calf length. The back waistband is elastic, and the front is smooth.

Bestsellers of the week readers loved most:

  • These Frank & Eileen pull-on jeans from the anniversary sale were very popular this week. I bought them the moment I tried them on…they are that comfy. I’ve already raved about them, so I won’t go on, but these may be my favorite item from the sale. They’re almost sold out, but if people shop as I do and order multiple sizes, returns will come in, and they may become available again… so pop them on your wish list.
  • This Vince Camuto Longline Raincoat was also a bestseller with AWSL readers at the Nsale. It’s a great length and has all the features you need in a raincoat.
  • This Talbots Airknit stretch sweater jacket was a massive bestseller this week and is marked down for the Red Door Sale.
  • So many of you loved my Susan Shaw Buffalo Coin necklace and ordered one for yourselves. It’s really cool, and I know you’ll love it too.
  • I don’t remember, but I must have mentioned my Ilia Super Tint Serum because so many of you ordered it. It’s terrific for your skin with a strong sunscreen that’s good for your skin.
  • This beautiful washable Kamran Rose Rug was a bestseller. It also happens to be marked down. Their entire collection is 30% off…but it’s ending soon.

In case you missed it:

I can’t believe how many times I changed my clothes in tiny dressing rooms this week, but it was an epic experience, and I learned some things.

  • Wide-leg pants and jeans aren’t going anywhere soon, so if you haven’t tried them, you can feel confident they’ll be around for a good long time.
  • Neutrals are plentiful, but so are saturated shades for fall.
  • All shades of brown will also dominate, and I am determined to add some to my wardrobe.
  • Comfortable footwear is the norm these days, and you can wear sport sneakers with virtually anything.

Thanks for hanging in here with me, ladies. I do this for you.

Have a restful weekend. I have a new book to start.
